The LA Sports Bar Directory

"This dive-y Highland Park staple is more bar than sports bar, but they do have TVs that are usually showing games, a really good taplist, and a much better jukebox than any Buffalo Wild Wings." - kat hong, james montgomery

Classic LA dive bar! This place has a lot of old school entertainment. The jukebox is from the 80s and there’s an old photo booth that spits out real photos. The drinks are great and affordable and the staff is fun!

My first time in this cool place. Came in afterwork for some brew. Pictured is my delicious Allagash. 🍺 They have an outside patio which has a lot of shaded spot with fans adding in some cool breeze. Also, I met the friendliest kitty hanging around…..🐈 Really cool. :)

Great staff and awesome spot for getting together with friends or making new ones. The inside is set up really cool with little tables all along the wall and mirrors just above them. Excellent place to chill and have a good time.

Advertises as a sports bar, without a single screen showing a sport. Maybe it was once a sports bar. I moved on because I wanted to catch a game.

Local watering hole. Non pretentious, at least before nightfall, in the midst of a changing street. The beer selection is great, tab and bottles, full bar, jukebox, darts, bar seating and lounge couches. Catch a dodger game, bring in food from the lunch truck's outside, and relax.

The new, revamped Johnny's is off to a great start. It's beautiful inside, with low light, an understated aesthetic, a great bar top, and cozy booths. The simplified bar program works. "No mixology" they say, but the batched cocktails are excellent and served in ice cold glasses. A few customers have bristled at the lack of fresh fruit, but I think it keeps service fast and the bar nice and clean. The dried fruit is always a nice touch. The prices are, by and large, right on point. The batched cocktails and fancy highballs run from $11 and up. Draft beers are mostly $6 to $8. The "Bumper" pony beer + 1oz shot is $8. My only gripe is the price of well mixers: $10 for a carefully measured house whiskey/tequila/vodka and soda just feels like a lot when my beer drinking friends aren't paying more than $8 per round. Then again, the beers are 12oz, not pints. The staff have been amazing. Generally very friendly, and professional. I do wish they wouldn't handle straws right from the drinking end though. The owners are regularly present and always friendly. It pains me to say, but for a bar that is branding itself as "hi-fi," the sound is problematic. The music is both loud and difficult to decipher. A friend said it well: "they're really following Gold Line off a cliff with the giant speakers pointed directly at the opposing wall." You generally can't understand lyrics or easily distinguish instruments on a track, yet you can leave with your ears fatigued. If any audio nerds are listening: low bass (< 80hz) and trebles (> 2khz) are largely absent. The bass cliff means bass melodies are lost altogether (except for the narrow range spike described below). The treble cliff is why so much detail is lost. There is an egregious, boomy bass peak just below 100hz which is likely the resonance of the space between the speakers and the opposing drywall. It makes a lot of songs sound like they have only a single, droning bass note. Would definitely be 5 stars if it was a pleasurable listening environment!

Always a great time coming here. They’ve had a bunch of theme and game nights, can’t wait to go to more!

Great dive bar with top of the line bar tenders. Security is very friendly and overall the experience every time I go is completely family oriented. Highly recommend. If you're a local or new to the area and are looking for a good bar experience make your way to Johnny's and I guarantee you'll have a great time. 👍
