I've heard a lot about this place and been wanting to try it for some time.
In short it's kind of like the DiFarra's of Westchester - walking in is like stepping into a time capsule. Furnishings that haven't changed for decades and maintains that old-world, home-y feel to it. Same family making the pizza for generations. That does come with annoyances though. Cash only, and only pies. They don't serve tap water, if you want water you need to buy bottled water. Parking lot is small tight and hard to maneuver. If there's no spots in the small lot, it's tough to find parking elsewhere. Food takes a while to come out. I ate at a table, and probably took 35-40 minutes from sitting down to get the pie.
The pizza itself was excellent. Its thin crust and the bottom is crispy. The sauce is almost like on top of the cheese, almost somewhat similar to L&B. Sauce is flavorful, and so is the cheese on it.
The guys behind the counter I didn't think were super friendly at first, as walking in I didn't really get greeted (they're the first ones you see), but they did say thank you and good night walking out. The waitresses were very nice. They asked if I wanted any cheese or pepper after serving the pie with a smile, so that's appreciated and honestly the reason for the four stars, otherwise given the other annoyances it would probably have been a three.
Basically, great pizza if you have patience, and can play by the rules of this niche place. If you live in the area, it may be better to get take out and try and call in ahead of time. I went right before dinner, and by the time I left it was packed, like every table front and back full. I also am a buff for the old-world feel type of places, and this is a place with some history
