Johnny’s pizzeria is a very well-known spot in Westchester. That being said, the pizza and food were phenomenal. We got the fried ravioli and the regular plain pie with a bottle of seltzer water. It was a phenomenal. We killed the pizza in less than 10 minutes between the two of us. The fried ravioli was absolutely amazing. The one thing I will say is the service was very good but the Pizza took forever to be served to us about a 30 minute wait from when we were sitting down and had placed our order. I was not very happy with this but then again the pizza was very good.

Outstanding pizza bridging New York and New Haven style. Super-crisp, pleasantly ashy crust, tangy sauce, and just enough cheese to avoid greasiness. If you live nearby, it’s probably your go-to; if not, you’ll wish it were.

Arrived about 40 minutes after opening, was seated immediately and order placed in less than 5 min. Place was packed and more people coming in as we waited for our sausage pie. Wait time for the pie was about 35-40 minutes and I must say it was truly worth it. The pie came out steaming and smelling of pizza heaven, when pulling a slice apart the sausage held in place. The crust was pizza perfection, the under carriage crispy with no flop, even with the extra topping. There sauce was the excellent fresh and light. Already planning my next visit. Only 17 minutes from the Bronx. Parking can be a bit tricky. I recommend parking on the side streets across from Johnny and the gas station.

I had been to Johnny's many years ago and witnessed a fight between a customer and one of the wait staff, which definitely put me off for a while. Decided to try it again in the hopes that things had improved. This was my experience: went on a weekday to avoid any wait time. Got a table immediately. Our waitress did not welcome us, introduce herself, or even give us half a smile. We ordered a soup to share and 2 pizzas. The food was very good and did live up to the local reputation that Johnnys has. Halfway through our meal, the waitress abandoned us without saying anything at all. Another waitress showed up - also did not introduce herself, but she was slightly nicer. The decor is old and outdated. The decor looks like it has been around since 1942 when this spot opened - feels outdated. They don't take reservations (except for larger parties I believe) and they don't take cards - cash only. Parking is very tricky, their lot is small and tough to navigate getting in and out. Good food. Not great service.

I haven’t been in 30 years, Johnny’s was a staple name in our household. My uncle used to drive them crazy ordering half cooked pizzas to take back to Connecticut. (Former Pelham residents) We were close by today and stopped in for lunch. The staff is very friendly and the food was impeccable as always! We ordered some parm wedges to have there and took two pizzas to go. I was so happy to see they are still in business and will gladly stop back! Thank you for the delicious food and warm welcome with a safe travels wish as we left! 10/10 food, service and friendliness! (pizza photos taken after an hour drive home, our son’s approval- 10/10 best pizza ever!)

Top tier pizza. Easily the best in Wesrchester. House salad comes in the wooden bowl, so you know it's legit. Chicken dishes are really good too.

Great family owned pizzeria right in the heart of Mount Vernon. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. Super thin crust pizza might not be for everyone, but I love it. Make sure to order a little more than a typical pizza place, go for the large! The parking is kind of limited, but you can park around the corner.

If you know me, you know that I think pizza is an overrated food. PUT YOUR KNIVES AWAY!!!! I come in peace. So, while I don't LOVE pizza like, what I like to call people who are, Pizza People, I do sometimes try pizza at different places in the event I find one that I truly love. Well, Johnny's is that place for me. My mom and I got for a large pie: 1/2 plain, 1/2 pepperoni and a side of broccoli sautéed in garlic and oil. The broccoli was decent. It could have been cooked longer for me. I wish it had more garlic since I'm obsessed with garlic. 7/10. Now, the star of the show. The pizza!!! Ok, first look, it looks incredible. The reverse action of cheese then sauce is genius. The undercarriage was nicely charred. When I took a bite I was shook. The sauce was nicely seasoned. It had a level of sweetness that I prefer in my tomato sauces. There was just enough cheese. The crust was my favorite part. I prefer a THIN crust. It was so thin and crispy I was stunned. The sauce being on top allowed the pizza to not have that "flop" or soggy bottom. It was perfect. The pepperoni wasn't salty and thinly sliced. I give the pizza a 10/10. It's such a homey feeling place with the memorabilia that's been collected over the years and now displayed. Some other things to note about the restaurant: -cash only -not open on Sundays and Mondays -looks to get busy quickly when it gets later in the evening so plan accordingly Overall, if you are not a Pizza Person, I still say give it a try! You may find that you love their style.

It does not get any better than this. Stick to the regular pizza and start with a salad. If you like anchovies the pizza special with sauce and anchovies, that option is phenomenal. Service is hit or miss but the pizza makes up for it.

We went to Johnny's on a Friday evening in December after reading about it in a pizza lovers group on Facebook. There was a lot of talk and a lot of hype about this fantastic thin pizza. I will be going through all aspects. Parking. Parking is horrendous. It took over 40 minutes to find a spot. Within that 40 minutes I had to hop out alone to secure a table to attempt to speed up the process. We were pretty hungry already. When my husband finally found a spot he had to walk another 10 minutes to the pizzeria. They have valet but we looked and the lot was full so. Idk it seemed kind of moot. Timeline. From the time that we started looking for parking, to putting in our order, and waiting for the pizza we did spend over an hour before receiving food. What I'm trying to say is that this whole pizza-getting process at Johnny's was very time consuming. It ate up a lot of our Friday night especially by the time we finished eating we prob met the 2.5 hour mark or close. Service. There's no sign but you're supposed to wait in the front to be seated in the order that you arrive. After I gave my name, I waited in a large back room for a few minutes and then was seated at a two-top. Brenda was our waitress. I can't say enough good things about her. In fact she was the best part of our experience. She was kind, sweet, personable and I didn't feel like a number. We connected over our shared interest in diet sodas (lol). She put in my order quickly to get us moving along. Food. We ordered 2 plain pies and two sodas. Was the pizza thin? ...Was it thin? I felt like I was being pranked. I kid you not. They make these pizzas on a piece of printer paper. They make these pizzas on a base of cellophane. They might even make normal pizzas, freeze them, and then shave and serve them. These pizzas are RAZOR THIN. I'm not kidding when I say that after we finished eating I thought about it and said to my husband, if someone wanted to play a practical joke involving pizza, this is the pizza that I would imagine being served. It was comically thin. Practical-joke-thin. New York pizza style is considered thin and I know and understand that. That's what I'm used to and that's what I grew up eating. This is .......its own category. This is something else. If you've never been and you're just looking at the pictures--its even thinner in real life. A feather. Now, that being said, it wasn't "bad." But it was also--a snack. Thank God we ordered two because my husband would have starved to death if we hadn't. I had seven slices but could have had more (something I never say). We both left feeling hungry, $60 later (with tip). I thought it was still tasty but my husband was fuming. After looking forward to it all week as a huge pizza lover, it was such a drastically different experience than he was expecting and he was not impressed. Not enough cheese, not enough flavor, way too thin, no bang for the buck. One side of my husband's pizza also was burnt and he said the crust was inedible on that side. He said he'll never return again and would give it a zero. I'm going to give it a two because of the server and it wasn't "bad" tasting it was pretty good for me in terms of flavor but also not all that it was hyped up to be. Overall-- a let down!

What can I say that has not already been said. This pizza is delicious. Crispy, flavorful. Sauce on top of cheese. No flop. Not doughy thick stuff you find in most places. Atmosphere has not changed. No pouf. No nonsense. This is not a sorority house. You Will enjoy the decor. You must eat it there or in the parking lot. It will not travel well. It's very thin. One hungry person could knock back a small by themselves. First timers, get a large plain pie, big salad, Gorgonzola. If you don't want to wait, get there by 11:30. It's the only way to score parking in their small lot.

Omg I have been coming here for over 45 yrs and I'll tell you the pizza has gotten even better they added a grandma pie with fresh spinach and fresh mozzarella I ordered it well done it's the best pizza I have ever had, it was paper thin and delicious the staff is amazing they love taking care of you and are constantly checking to make sure you everything is ok. The restaurant inside is amazing great atmosphere and vibe!!!

Mixed on it. The service was great. The pizza fair. I didn't sit down, but I understand they won't provide a glass of water for those eating in. You have to purchase. Anyway, it's a thin crust and the sauce is great. I guess it's just not a style I favor. I grew up in Brooklyn and that's the style I like. This is closer to New Haven.

Best pizza I've had in westchester so far. Moved here from North jersey which I think has the best pizza in the country but this spot easily joined my top 3 best I've ever had. It's family run and been around for almost 100 years. There's no bs, no frill, truly authentic. The service is top notch and food matches that. Cash only which you have to love and respect. I'm from an Italian American family and you see that with the people running the show. So many regulars which makes the vibe feel like home. Show up earlier if you want to get a table there and if you want take out call ahead and reserve your time. Pizza isn't the same once it goes in the box. But this spot the pizza will stay crispy. They do it right here.

Came to check out and see what was the big deal about the pizza here . Didn't disappoint. A little crowded and cramped but I hear they are expanding . Parking stinks .

The pizza was pretty good and different, but the service was atrocious. We had the nastiest rudest waitress that I've had in a very long time. All she kept doing was complaining that she had to work and did not want to answer any of our questions being it was our first time there. Any question we asked, she rolled her eyes and was just annoyed as hell at anything we had to ask. she did the same to two young men that was sitting next to us and I can't spend money in a place like this very very rude. Never coming back.

This place hits the spot. Old school NY vibe, family-run for three generations, and all about making their best version of their pizza. I love it. We came at around 1:15 and waited about 25 minutes to get seated, which wasn't too bad. Keep in mind they'll ask you to wait outside, so don't go here if you are a weather wimp. Also, bring cash. All the best spots in NY are cash only and this is one of 'em. We got in line right after these hilarious two firemen from NYC got there. And it turned out to be indicative of the clientele. Old neighbors, families, hard working people eat here. As a general rule, anyplace firemen like? Get in line and don't ask questions. These guys can eat. We got the plain and the sausage and hot pepper. It was hot! And delicious. The crust was PERFECT. No flop. We were surprised when they recommended the salad, but were intrigued by it being family style salad. It was great, not too much dressing, and it came with some soft bread to dip. Worth the trip. Buon Appetito, people!

Visited for the first time. Wait was ridiculously long for two pies when not even that crowded (though, on a Friday night). Unfortunately, the pizza was not even that tasty. Definitely not worth the wait. The staff is slow and do not improve the experience either.

Although a little bit of a far pizza run, it's worth the travel time. Added to our pizza run rotation, the pizza has the thin crust, no flop, cheese delight. Service is prompt and attentive. Ambience is old school pizzeria. My only complaint is the parking. We have yet to park in the lot but manage to find a spot around the corner. CASH ONLY! Bring them $$ to pay. See you in two weeks!

Simply awesome! The best pizza in Westchester. Order a simple plain cheese pie and you won't be disappointed. Thin crust and the perfect balance on the sauce. This place is iconic for a reason. They keep the recipe consistent and it remains simply perfect. Flavorful and thin crust goodness. This place is a must for your local bucket list.

The food is excellent. Great thin crust pizza, authentic sauce on top pizza. Chicken a la Marie! Tastiest! They really know how to balance flavors to create a superb dish. Growing up in Mt. Vernon, missed out on this place because they dont serve slices then and still now. NO Slices! But after one taste, you would buy a whole pie or two! The service is great and people are welcoming. The interior is nice, good for a casual dinner or a formal occasion.

This place is hands down the number pizza spot in the NYC metro area this includes Ctonn. and NJ. Pizza, sandwiches, salads are all outstanding

The restaurant opens at 12:30 PM, me and a group of people were waiting outside in 32° weather for the doors to open. They didn't open the doors until 12:35 PM which to me is a little rude since there's so many people waiting outside in the cold I know if it was me, my restaurant I would let the people in a couple of minutes early or on time at the minimum. Now, let's talk about the pizza. The pizza is perfectly thin crust, but in my opinion needs more cheese... being so thin crust, the pizza gets cold very quickly so it's more important to order multiple pies staggered otherwise you will not be able to finish one pie before the other one gets too cold, personally, I would definitely come back. The fried calamari is not fresh, it is frozen, and then deep-fried. It was still tasty, but I've definitely had better. The chicken Parmesan that my wife ordered was very nice and thinly cut and was plain delicious. The restaurant does not have enough parking, and there's not much to say about the ambience, but people don't come here for that, they come here for the perfectly thin crust delicious pizza! I highly recommend you try Johnny's pizza if you've not been here before, I look forward to coming back in the future. Also make note that the place only accepts cash, and will not take credit cards.

Always the best pizza in town ! Everyone goes here . It's the best outside of Lil Italy

This place has been on my bucket list for a long time. I took a friend of mine who is a senior, who doesn't like any pizza around because it's usually very limp and too Chewy. Well this isn't the case at Johnny's! It's a very old-school restaurant. Nothing fancy just good food. We started off with Johnny signature salad which consisted of pepperoncini, olives, blue cheese, lettuce, onions and tomato. It was nice and cold, crisp in a wonderful vinaigrette. Loved it. Now for the pizza! The pizza came out looking very saucy. It was extremely crispy, and every piece stood upright as you lifted it towards your mouth. The cheese was under the sauce. The slices cannot be described as Chewy or limp. We both agreed the Pizza was really crispy and delicious. My senior friend has finally found her dream come true pizza! I'm happy to accompany her anytime! The servers are very nice and efficient. Bravo!

I came here with hubby recently. I will say, the pizza is VERY good! I think this pizza is more of a sit down and eat kind of pizza, not take out. The wait was about 45 minutes, but that was to be expected being that it was a Saturday night, on top of me hearing that they're even packed during the week. The pizza had a very thin, crunchy crust which made the pizza amazing. Our waitress (I completely forgot her name) was great. As packed as they were, she always checked in on us. I give them 4 stars because the baked clams and calamari weren't that good. They weren't terrible, but I won't be ordering that again. I'll stick to the pizza and cheesy garlic bread

Super old place that's been around for like 75 years, no slices just pies, and cash only; this place is as old school as it gets. There are calzones and some basic kitchen items. I just stick to the pizza because it's incredible. Johnny's is the place to go if you want pizza. The crust is paper thin, and has a beautiful char on the edge. They put their delicious sauce on top of the cheese. The pizza isn't too heavy either, two people can finish a pie with ease. I definitely recommend eating it there, or within 20 minutes after picking it up; the pizza is so thin it'll burn if you try to reheat it. Johnny's keeps it simple, and that's why they have been around for song long. Almost anyone in lower Westchester will tell you this is one of the best pies around.

I've heard a lot about this place and been wanting to try it for some time. In short it's kind of like the DiFarra's of Westchester - walking in is like stepping into a time capsule. Furnishings that haven't changed for decades and maintains that old-world, home-y feel to it. Same family making the pizza for generations. That does come with annoyances though. Cash only, and only pies. They don't serve tap water, if you want water you need to buy bottled water. Parking lot is small tight and hard to maneuver. If there's no spots in the small lot, it's tough to find parking elsewhere. Food takes a while to come out. I ate at a table, and probably took 35-40 minutes from sitting down to get the pie. The pizza itself was excellent. Its thin crust and the bottom is crispy. The sauce is almost like on top of the cheese, almost somewhat similar to L&B. Sauce is flavorful, and so is the cheese on it. The guys behind the counter I didn't think were super friendly at first, as walking in I didn't really get greeted (they're the first ones you see), but they did say thank you and good night walking out. The waitresses were very nice. They asked if I wanted any cheese or pepper after serving the pie with a smile, so that's appreciated and honestly the reason for the four stars, otherwise given the other annoyances it would probably have been a three. Basically, great pizza if you have patience, and can play by the rules of this niche place. If you live in the area, it may be better to get take out and try and call in ahead of time. I went right before dinner, and by the time I left it was packed, like every table front and back full. I also am a buff for the old-world feel type of places, and this is a place with some history

What else can be said that 400+ reviews haven't already expressed? Yes, their pizza is absolutely delicious, and has become one of my all-time favorites. There's plenty of consistently decent options for pizza in the Mount Vernon / Fleetwood neighborhood, but Johnny's reigns supreme - ask any longtime resident of MV! Keep in mind to be patient, bring cash, and potentially have to find street parking.

I made the mistake if ordering food other then Pizza. The soups are canned soups. The baked clams were frozen pre made just like the ones you buy in a super market. This leads me to question how fresh or the quality of their other kitchen foods. Stick with the pizza which is legit. It's thin and crispy. It's the perfect sauce to cheese ratio.

I've been coming to Johnny's for many years now . Every time I go it's excellent and never had an issue . They are very busy and I believe are celebrating 80 years ! I usually order a plain round. Today was my daughters last day of high school and when I picked her up today I asked are you hungry? She said yes! Then went on to say I want Johnny's ! Now granted it's about a 45 minute drive there but for her I'll do anything . Anyway on to the pizza ! It's light thin and crispy and so delicious. Today we decided to get the small round plain and a grandma pie ! I can't decide what I liked better . My daughter said the grandma was "fire " so I guess she loved that one a little more . The workers are straight and to the point and I know why they're busy ! I get it I don't get all bent out of shape because they're overly polite they are no nonsense and I appreciate that . Will be back many many times !

THE classic New York slice. I'm not usually a plain pizza person but this place does it perfectly. The crust is perfectly thin and crispy with zero flop. The pie comes out piping hot that I burned my mouth with the first bite. The only thing that could make this event better would be a bit more sauce but that's just my personal preference.

I went to Johnny's expecting amazing food and surly service. As an East Coaster who now lives in California, I was looking forward to some honest East Coast crankiness with a touch of surly on top. Alas, the gritty New York attitude I hoped to encounter was no where to be found. The minute we walked in the door, one of the men making pizza made eye contact and smiled at me. TWICE. The hostess greeted and seated us, then gave helpful suggestions about the size of salad that would be meet our dining needs. The house dressing was beyond all expectation. And the pizza. Phenomenal. It's a classic thin crust and does not disappoint. I may have to go elsewhere to find restaurant curmudgeons of my East Coast youth, but I do not need to look further than Johnny's Pizzeria for fantastic pizza and a truly welcoming environment.

I LOVE this pizza!! My partner grew up eating at Johnny's Pizzeria ( he calls this restaurant; " Johnny Pie" ) and introduced me to it. For me, it was an experience that took me back in time with family owners, long time dedicated staff, secret sauce recipe that I love and a huge following. It's quite common to have to wait in line outside for a table to be available. Also, the parking lot is small, so it's common to have to park a couple blocks away. The restaurant itself is like pizzeria's I grew up with many years ago with pictures on the wall, comfortable, but casual seating and a very busy, but efficient wait staff. The pizza itself truly is delicious and my favorite of all time with a thin crispy crust, great tasting sauce that is fresh and flavorful, but not sweet and not too acidic with a fair amount of good cheese. I'm a traditionalist and usually order the basic pie and prefer to eat in the restaurant straight out of the oven. So, if you're picky about your pizza like me, I recommend trying Johnny's Pizzeria in Mt Vernon.

We haven't been there in a long time but it was just ok. The pizza didn't have a lot of flavor, it was missing something. The waitress was rude and there were only a few people in the restaurant. I don't think we will be back.

Wow, what more can I say. Some of the best pizza I've ever had in my life - and I've had some pretty good spots in the NYC Metro area. It is similar to Johns of Bleecker with its own sort of twist. Cash only, local spot, in and out in 25 min. We tried calling in but think they may have disconnected their phone because everyone and their mother wants a nice pie on a summer Friday night. Don't walk, run to Johnnys pizza, you won't regret it.

Portnoy gave this place a 9.1 so we had to try it. Saturday night, 8 pm...no wait. Walked right in. Try doing that at any of the big 3 pizza places in New Haven...not going to happen. Good, standard service. Pizza came out fast. Thin, crunchy, nice charred bottom, but it ends there. Why is this rated so high? The flavor was ok. Nothing here screamed I need to come back. Nothing here screamed 9.1 rating. Probably the reason why we walked right in. It's ok. Not great. Certainly not even close to a 9.1. I drove an hour and a half and it wasn't worth the trip. CASH ONLY.

Pizza is overrated, staff is rude, parking is horrible... do not recommend this place

This is an easy one, definitely in my top 5 pizzas I've ever had. Made a special stop on the way back from Fishkill to Long Island to try this place because it got a 9.1 from El Prez. I don't see how someone can not like this pizza, if you do than you are just tastebud challenged, lol! Sweet sauce, crispy crust with just the right amount of char. Not a ton of cheese but pizza people know that's a characteristic of a "tomato pie". Enjoy in good health!

Amazing pizza! They are up there with the big boys (the pizza masters). The sauce on the pizza is really tasty! My favorite is the pepperoni pizza! Why? Because the flavor of the pepperoni kicks you in the mouth. It is sooo good! I would come back here again. Also amazing people who is working there. They display their family business photos and it is beautiful that they are continuing the business.

I saw they got a 9.1 from One Bite pizza reviewer Dave Portnoy. Anything in the 9's & I am there! This is very thin NY style pizza. When I say thin I mean THIN like paper thin. Not too heavy on the cheese & the sauce has a great flavor to it. The undercarriage has a beautifully delicious char to it. This is a cash only spot & they do pies only no slices. I got the large which is fairly priced at $21. Plenty of parking in their lot. If you like thin crust pizza you'll love Johnny's.

Consistently the best thin crust pizza out there! Easily Top 10 in New York! Definitely eat in. One person can eat a whole pie when they're hungry so, order up!

Finally got here after years of wanting to. The plain pie is about as good as you can make this kind of pizza -- sweet sauce, super thin but super crispy crust, hard to ask for more. Definitely top tier for me. We also got a grandma pie which I thought was good but probably would sub out next time. Garlic knots and zucchini sticks were excellent as well.

Pizza is good, flavorful sauce but not enough cheese. Pastas suck. Overall the place is highly overrated.

First time coming to this pizzeria. Right off the bat the server was snappy with an attitude. We ordered fried ravioli and small pie with half cheese and half pepperoni. The fried ravioli was nothing special. In my opinion, i wouldn't order anything else but the pizza. The pizza was okay, thin crust, light sauce, light cheese, scorching hot. The side with the pepperoni was more flavorful (obviously the pepperoni adds Smokiness to the slice). Yes they don't serve tap water, I wouldn't drink it anyways. Memorable part of my visit was burning the roof of my mouth with the ravioli.

Been here twice now. The pizza is really good. It didn't look as good as it taste but it def. Hit the spot. You can't go wrong here with a plain pie. Only complaint is no tap water. I've been eating pizza 30 plus years and usually always get a soda with my pizza but I asked for some tap water today and the waitress told me they don't do tap water at all. We got 3 beers and 1 soda before I asked for the tap water. And that's a big no no. As a restaurant, to not offer TAP WATER is crazy. Small peppy pie was $20. Soda can $3. Beer $8 I believe but no tap water, that's unheard of. I'll go back for a little pick up eventually if I'm ever in the neighborhood but I would never dine in. P.s. pizza was reallly good.
