We love this restaurant! Visiting Massachusetts and remembering our many good times there was fantastic. The food was delicious. We truly enjoyed every aspect. Alice we also loved!! Great service and friendliness. Looking forward to returning for graduation and cheering on our Hampshire grads!

Fooood is gooood here! Coffee’s temperature was exactly what I want. Hot but not burning you😅 I ordered pulled pork egg Benedict and loved it, we also ordered Brito and tasted good. For the kid we ordered chicken tenders with fruits. I wish chicken was not that much oily but tasted ok. Everything was fresh yummy and tasted homemade!

Every bite of the food we ordered was delicious. It was pretty busy when we went and everyone was courteous and diligent. The milkshake was hands-down the best I have had in a while. Chocolate peanut butter with malt. (I had already taken a couple sips by the time I took this picture)

Waited 45 minutes for 2 eggs over medium with bacon, and homefries. When it finally arrived, the eggs were burnt one one side, andthe homefries and bacon had both been deep fried. Wasted my whole morning waiting for substandard food that they charge absurd prices for. Don't bother with this place.

Have to admit that the place may appeal to college kids and word is their forte is breakfast so when my daughter suggested we go there for lunch I was apprehensive. Place is cute inside, we went on a Friday at about 130 and there were only a handful of booths occupied. Waitress was very drab and unpersonable. She was on top of refilling our water glasses though which is always nice. Started out with Buffalo chicken tenders which needed help. The chicken was overcooked and needed a great deal more hot sauce to be considered spicy. I had a cup of chili which was very watery and only tasted like tomato sauce with cayenne pepper in it. The beef was bland as well so overall I was disappointed with my order. We had a Reuben which was pretty decent, but the Onion rings really helped that dish. Nice sized with tasty batter that made you forget how greasy they were. The fried chicken sandwich was good but the fries that came with it were soggy and greasy. The chicken was cooked perfectly though. The last dish we had was the Turkey dinner. The mashed potatoes didnt quite cut it but the turkey was moist and seasoned well. Limited beer selection but they have full bar. Bathrooms were clean as were the booths. Pricing is a little high in relation to portion size. I would like to try their breakfast but will not go back for another lunch there.

This is a classic New England diner. Service was great. Food was awesome. Can’t complain.

Google
While service was acceptable, there were delays. Most dishes were delicious, however, one was served cold and did not meet expectations. The home fries never hit a grill they're fried. Other meals, particularly the cinnamon pancakes, were excellent, although not all ingredients were included.

Food was average. Coffee sucked. The service and atmosphere were awesome. The location makes for busy times with the local colleges. Open 24/7. Had to try it once for breakfast.

Yelp
We frequent this place it is our "cheers" - manager knows our names! My son loves his benedict- I prefer the heuvos rancheros-

Yelp
We used to go here many times before Covid and everything was wonderful. Never a problem. Till this time. Just wanna point out of the service this time. Like always was exceptional the girl see us right away. Her name was Patty she said us a nice booth. We told her it was our Son 40th birthday and that we want to take him out to lunch. They thought that was wonderful. Adverse they seem to be in a hurry even though the dying was very empty from it was like like 1130 I think in the morning on Monday it was very quiet. It was only a couple of the tables with people in them it seems strange to go in a weekday and find them like empty.we eventually ordered our food. My husband got a burger and my son, the birthday boy he got a cream soda float and then he also got a loaded tater tots and he ordered these with the I believe it was a rodeo type cheeseburger with barbecue sauce, lettuce tomato, and onion rings. I myself ordered the donut holes with the homemade caramel sauce, and I have been looking forward to having the cornbread waffle it was supposed to come with fresh fruit however, they were all out of the fruit. They just had strawberries so then we asked to have bananas as well need to put bananas on it, so we get fresh strawberries and bananas, whipped cream. The food came out however, my husband's was supposed to be medium it was more well done and the french fries weren't hot and then my son got loaded to but she brought his burger out first told him a couple extra minutes and he's OK but she came back a second time is it Wfp so sorry we forgot to take them out from the broiler and they all burnt so we're gonna make so he was like no no I'll take them so he said eat them but then she brought out a second bowl of lines that were nicely done the actually perfect. My cornbread waffle wasn't bad but like I said it didn't have the fruit it was supposed to. I also ordered his sided bag and softly cooked. The bacon was so hard I couldn't eat it. My son ended up eating instead because I have braces and he does not. I felt some of the prices were quite a bit higher than the expect them to be. I was very disappointed in the meal I did not feel it was worth the price that I paid which was around $66 for the three of us plus the tip. The wages was worth the tip but the mail was not worth the price I felt bad because it was never like that before. Everything was always fresh delicious right on top of things. I'd rather sit and wait to get seated then to get seated in a restaurant that just their food standards were up to what they should've been or what we were used to for that restaurant.. even though our son lives but a mile and a half from this restaurant, probably be wild before I go back again. I think they need to have more practice and what they're doing just didn't feel like their heart was in the food.

Yelp
When the March / April edition of Yankee Magazine rated Johnny's Roadside Diner one of the 20 best diners in New England, it was only a matter of time. The time came today when friend, Demanding Dan, and I made the trip to Hadley Mass. Located in a commercial mall type area, this standalone diner has that classic retro look and feel. Plenty of stainless steel and red neon lighting. Also plenty of parking. HOWEVER, why were there so few vehicles in the lot at 8:40 AM? Upon entering, more of the same. There was nary a fanny on any stool, or a youth (or older person) at any booth to the right of the entrance. And only a smattering of people in the larger room to the left. Peggy was our server. She was excellent. Brought menus and beveraged us. DD water, me coffee. Dan ordered the Carnivore omelet (sans ham) w HFs and rye toast. I chose the corned beef hash w eggs over med, HFs and sour dough toast. Food came in a reasonable amount of time. DD thought his omelet was very good. We both thought that the HFs were not very hot, temp wise. I loved the CBH, which came as a patty and was a generous portion. Two things about the toast....why only one slice?? This was only the 2nd time in all the eateries I've patronized where you get only one slice. Second, notwithstanding the picture of the toast in my photo, the other side was untoasted. It was more like bread. I showed it to Peggy who agreed and offered to bring me another one (toasted). I declined as I didn't want to wait. Last, DD paid for breakfast (thanks). I looked at the pic of the bill when I started this review. $3.25 for a cup of coffee is on the high side. We were charged for two cups (per above, Dan had water). I did not get a refill, just a top off. DD rated JRD a "4". I rated them a "3". Scenery is great, service excellent, hash awesome. Too many negative things offset the good parts. For me, too many other excellent diners in New Englang (almost all of which I've been to).

Mike T.

Yelp
Great ambiance, nice big booths throughout. Very 50's dinerish inside and out. Many awesome options to choose from both breakfast and lunch. They have a really cool page in the menu of alcoholic milkshakes and other fun drinks that are infused with alcohol as well. I had the chicken salad and smothered tots. It was all fresh ingredients in the salad and it was delicious and the tots...amazing! Must try the tots if you go.

Aaron S.

Yelp
The only disappointment I've ever had here is not being able to able to try everything! All the food here is great, especially the sandwiches and sausages. Has a nice friendly neighborhood diner vibe and is well decorated. People there have always been nice and enjoyable.

Yelp
My wife and I decided to take my mother out for brunch before heading to the Three County Fair. Having been here before, we knew we would get a good variety of options. It did not disappoint. It was move in weekend for the local colleges and we were expecting to wait for a table. Luckily we came at the right time and were seated immediately. The place was pretty full and more people were trickling in after us. By the time we left, there were several groups waiting for a table. Our server, Grace, promptly came to the table and set us up with coffee. After taking our orders, we waited a short time for the food. My wife ordered the "I'm Poor", my mom ordered the "Hash Plate", and I ordered the "Hash Bennie". My wife was very pleased with her dish. The eggs were perfectly over easy, the home fries (homies) were nicely browned, and the toast was nice and toasted on the outside but still soft on the inside. Good texture contrast. The star was the ham. Smokey, savory, and delicious. She ate everything. My mom loved the Hash Plate. The eggs, once again, perfectly over easy, and the toast was toasty and soft. She hadn't had hash in a while and was very pleased with it. She wasn't a fan of the homies but that was her personal preference. My Hash Benedict was great. The eggs were poached perfectly. Gooey on the inside and nice and tender. The hollandaise was creamy and rich. English muffins were toasted perfectly to make a perfect foundation for this dish. The star of the show was the hash. It is homemade corned beef. It was nice and tender with a great crisp on it. Very hearty and a very ample portion. I destroyed that thing and would have eaten more if I had another stomach. The place was very clean. Tables were bussed frequently. No crumby or grimy floor. Decor was quaint and understated. The bathrooms were very clean. Service was great and well paced. Grace was pleasant and polite. Checked in a few times but never overbearing. She was also very prompt with any requests we had (water, refills, check, etc...). Price wise, I thought they were fair. For the proportions, I found it to be quite reasonable. I saw another review that mentioned the coffee price. It didn't seem out of place for me. I would rather pay what I paid for it here than at one of the national chains. It was a good, strong cup of Joe that you expect at a diner. This was an excellent experience. We have not been let down on any of our visits here. Great atmosphere, great service, and delicious food. Can't recommend it any higher.

Yelp
Yesterday I went for breakfast. It was busy which is wonderful for any restaurant. We waited just a little. The hostess was spot on her game with tending to each and every customer with excellent service. We sat and ate our wonderful breakfast. It has been a long time coming. The menu looks perfect meaning condensed with the right choices for many. The customer service is ! The kitchen staff were turning tables with their skill and devotion! Love and recommend all to go!!!

Kathi C.

Yelp
I have gone to Johnny's for breakfast and I thoughti'd try it for a late lunch. I ordered a sammy BLT. The order came quickly. It wasn't crowded. The waitress appeared to be in slow motion and didn't offer me a refill on my ice tea. The BLT wasn't the best I ever had. It was thrown together and loaded with mayo. The coleslaw was creamy and could have used some seasoning.

Ella T.

Yelp
stopped here for some classic diner breakfast food. now it was 10 in the morning, but it was a little upsetting that they didn't have their specialty shake available. either way, we split an oreo milkshake. i got a BLT, which was delicious. thick cut bacon, tomatoes, just enough mayo. the coffee was good too. our server was so kind and attentive. almost no one in the place on a monday so it was a quieter dining experience but still loved it! of course, nothing too special. average place really.

Tessa B.

Yelp
Had a great experience at Johnny's. The wait wasn't very long for a holiday, and the service was great. I ordered the "Dads Paying" which was more than enough food for one person and all of it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the menu is very expansive, definitely will return!

Olivia M.

Yelp
Excellent food, have never had an issue with my order in all the times I've been here. Alice is the best waitress, super attentive and friendly. I like the interior style and feel, love the milkshakes and all the menu options. Personally love the dad's paying and the spicy motherclucker.

George T.

Yelp
Perfectly good diner, clean, decent prices, good service, good food. (It didn't hurt that both times I dropped in here were early afternoon, when it wasn't at all crowded.)

Carol R.

Yelp
Love the food the people we always get great service if you are ever in amherst stopby there there pancakes are amazing

Andy L.

Yelp
I'm not sure what to think of Johnny's Roadside. I had came here previously and got a burger which I enjoyed but during my most recent visit, I got a bowl of clam chowder as always cus if you don't, you're doing somethjng wrong. That bowl of chowder was delicious, no complaints besides maybe a larger portion. I also got this Italian omelette which was strange. Not sure what to think of it. It came with some home fries which were a bit sour. Definitely not good. It also came with some toast which were good but not sure how you can mess up on toast so it being good was expected. My girlfriend got a spinach and tomato benedict which she enjoyed. As for the service, we walked in expecting to be seated but the host was acting very awkward and didn't acknowledge us for a bit and then just walked over to a table and pointed at us and then gestured to come over and sit down. Didn't even say a word to us. FOOD: 5/10 SERVICE: 6/10 RECOMMENDATION: Get the clam chowder

Susan T.

Yelp
Worst grilled cheese sandwich I've eaten since I've been in New England and believe me I've eaten a lot. The fries were not great either but okay with ketchup. What i found interesting is not once did the woman look at me throughout the meal or ask me how the food was. All I can say is the restaurant is clean.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Love this diner. Food is excellent and so is the service. I highly recommend the Sammy BLT. So delicious.

Howie A.

Yelp
Pleasant and attentive service. Very nice breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Plenty of parking.

Nancy G.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots!!! Love breakfast everything comes out exceptionally cooked!! I had an amazing Bloody Mary with my breakfast. Last few times I have stopped there, I have had superb waitresses who are attentive and so welcoming. Great job Johnnys Roadside Diner!!

E B.

Yelp
Great very friendly service, cool interior, strong coffee, great food! Will come again.

Marni M.

Yelp
Portions here are huge but sadly milkshakes are smaller than they appear. I've had the Irish Benedict and was satisfied with the dish. The home fries that it comes with are okay. The omelettes are big and hearty, just to my likings. Pancakes are nice and fluffy, perfect for absorbing lots of maple syrup. Turkey club is also a considerable serving size and tastes very fresh. Chicken pot pie was alright. Overall, typical diner which I think is worth coming back to.

Taylor B.

Yelp
The portions are massive so if you are looking for OK food at a decent price point then I would give it a try. I got the turkey club sandwich and it was huge. A little greasy but it tasted OK and they didn't skimp on the bacon. My wife ordered a chicken salad wrap. She wouldn't order it again. It was huge but there were some bites with massive parts of chicken with nothing else. Not a ton of flavor either. It seemed like the breakfast food was pretty good so if we were going to come back, it would be for breakfast and not lunch again. We were glad we tried it but we won't be making regular stops or highly recommending it to anyone.

Larry B.

Yelp
Nice ice cold PBR. All the breakfast foods were outstanding. Breakfast burrito was top notch (could have used some salsa). One complaint: ketchup that was free of high fructose corn syrup. I really needed that ingredient. But am definitely going back.

Melena S.

Yelp
This is a cute little spot but the food was not as impressive as the appearance. I got the corn beef hash in a skillet and it was not good. It was okay at best. I ate it but as I kept eating it, I found myself not wanting to eat it anymore. I've come here for dinner however and the food is much better. I've had their house salad with steak and I loved it. Their milkshakes are also delicious. They set high expectations for the breakfast but the breakfast just fell flat. Would not recommend for breakfast.

Elle V.

Yelp
Dramatic variations between dishes. Crappy diner food - chili dogs and fries - great. Oreo milkshake thick and warm. You read that right: thick and warm! How can a shake be warm? I don't know. It it was weird. The Eggs Benedict was weird. There's cheese is the Hollandaise sauce. But the eggs were nicely poached and properly served with ham and English muffin. We will prob go back and I'll try the Reuben sandwich or a burger.

Mia V.

Yelp
Solid food, fast and friendly service. It was pretty busy, but I still felt like the waitress made time for us. I got the greens omelet and it was tasty. Definitely diner food, not haute cuisine, but still good and fairly priced. I'd come back.

Jessica S.

Yelp
We popped in for food after a morning of lacrosse at UMass. There's a parking lot. We were greeted immediately and shown to a nice booth. They had many options for eggs Benedict so I tried one with tomatoes. I thought it was good. My son had a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel that he thought was average. The show stopper was the amazing cinnamon bun that was as big as my head. The service was attentive. I'd go back and plan to since we're here all weekend.

Caitlyn W.

Yelp
hope w. is the worst server in this establishment. I have had her as my server on more than one occasion and each time she messes something up. I asked for a drink with my meal. she didn't bring it. I reminded her nicely that I had asked for it. she still didn't bring it. so I finished my meal without the drink and it was fine, but right when the bill was about to come, someone brought me the drink. I told them I just didn't want it anymore since I had ordered it 40 minutes ago, and she brought the bill. the bill was not itemized (which i've never seen in a restaurant) so i'm thinking she charged me for the drink I gave back to her.

Caroline M.

Yelp
Our breakfast this morning was great! Lots of options but not so much so that it is overwhelming. French toast was delicious as were the homies.

Susan R.

Yelp
Our server was very friendly and attentive. Coffee cup was always filled up. My eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, a bit too much oil left on the plate for my liking. My friend and I both liked their home fries but found them just slightly salty. I'm very picky about pancakes and was pleasantly surprised. They were very good. Everything I look for in a tasty pancake. My breakfast was $11 but during weekday mornings it's offered for $7 which is a great deal.

Kelly M.

Yelp
I have no idea why they're rated so low. For a diner they're 5 stars. The interior is bright and clean. Everyone is smiling and welcoming. The waitress was quick and allowed us our numerous special requests without blinking an eye. The special of the day omelette, veggie burger, and strawberry pancakes came out quickly, was hot, cooked well, and all tasted really good. Since we were too full to try any desserts after the first trip I came back the next day to get some to go. Although they were all new faces everyone was smiling, the place was bright and clean, and I was helped immediately. The lady behind the counter not only clarified my order (fresh or compost strawberries, we have both?) but made sure I had lots of napkins and utensils in my bag before I left. All that and if you're military they do a 10% discount. I've found my new fav diner. Johnny's Roadside Diner it is!

Daniel D.

Yelp
I would have given 4 star review but my last time here I ordered the hash plate for $14.00. Ouch ! Big mistake. They corned beef hash was a pattie that looked and tasted like some mystery meat that was finely shredded . No sign of potatoes in the hash. The home fry potatoes were terribly dry , only one piece of toast and the portions were disappointing for $14.00! I should have sent the meal back. Speak up when something Is off especially at $14.00 a meal!!! Note: We have eaten here 2 other times and had a good experience especially with the turkey dinner.

Allison B.

Yelp
Food was good service was alright. Asked for the heat to be turned down 3 times cause it was blowing in our face and the dust was blowing into our food. Other than that would go back just would ask to be seated somewhere else.. Waffle with strawberries and sauce was amazing and sweet potato fries were amazing too.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Typically, I am soooooo happy with my meal. However, today my gf ordered a meal that was listed to be meat free, CHUNKS OF HAM. She is a vegetarian. This can potentially have adverse reactions for her. I would really like for them to pay attention to their menu. Beyond that, I LOVED the chicken and waffle sliders. They were amazing.

Glynis P.

Yelp
The corn beef hash was really dry. The hash browns were delicious and sourdough bread was tasty. I would go back and try something different. The waitress was really nice. The price was on point fir the amount of food.

Lucas K.

Yelp
Just finished breakfast, and quite enjoyed it! The Hot Mama omelette provided a little bit zing that you don't normally find on breakfast menus! The brioche French toast was light and fluffy as well. Oh and the loaded home fries were delicious. Our server was great, very friendly and quick. Thank you Johnny's!

Samantha M.

Yelp
I think this is a good place to get breakfast/brunch, but not so much for anything else. I recently went there with a friend around 4 pm. There was no one else inside, so we almost thought it was closed. I wasn't super happy with their menu and the options they had in regards to non-breakfast foods. I ended up ordering a caesar salad. It was really big but the dressing was below average, and the chicken was dry. The service was good and the food was prepared quickly, but I would only go back to get breakfast since my friend and I both left unsatisfied.

Daniella C.

Yelp
They forgot my kids order. Home fries weren't fully cooked potatoes were hard as rock. Pulled pork benny would have been good if my onion rings were crispy and not soggy. Also if my potatoes were cooked.

Valarie M.

Yelp
This place was awesome!! I ordered an omelette and one pancake. The pancake was huge and delicious and the omelette was excellent as well. I am a traveling nurse so I'm trying to go to restaurants that are not franchises. I will definitely revisit this restaurant!

Mark K.

Yelp
Yesterday 2 friends and I were in the area on horse business...We asked the stable person where to have lunch and she said without hesitation JRD.....a wise choice indeed !!...JRD is a diner beyond excellent!...Our food was absolutely wonderful, great portions, more than fair prices and topped off by a truly superb server named Holly who did her job beyond reproach.....The diner itself is a nice, clean, well organized ,great karma, happy atmosphere thats extends and includes the bathrooms.......Thank you !....Mark !

Walter B.

Yelp
We were on our way home from vacation and we were hungry! We decided to stop here for a late lunch/early dinner. I never have high expectations for diners since most just have a little bit of everything and don't speciize in one thing. I ordered fish and chips platter for 16 dollars. The batter was really crispy and tasty, it was a huge piece of fish served on top of a mountain of crispy and delicious French fries! It came with lemons and coleslaw and tartar sauce. I didn't eat the tartar sauce because I have tried it many times in the past and I just don't like it. The fish was cooked perfectly and melt in your mouth like. Usually fish at a diner is overcooked and rubbery. The other person I was with got a hamburger and fries. The burger was huge, moist, and was actually cooked medium. Most places, even burger joints, can't seem to get a nice medium cook on a burger. You could tell the burger was fresh, not frozen because it looked hand shaped and cooked with care. To top things off I ordered an oreo milkshake and it was huge. I took a sip and I didn't think it had much ice cream but I realized that some of it floated to the top. I mixed it a little and it was perfect. Highly reccomend if you are in the area!

Agnes T.

Yelp
Great Diner with a really good menu. I had "The Farmer" omelet. The portion was good and it had a lot of ingredients in it! It was very good and satisfying. This is a good place to bring a family with a large variety of choices, a nice atmosphere and really friendly and attentive staff!

Taylor N.

Yelp
Our server Bernadette B did not come to greet our table or take our drink order. She walked over and said "I'll take your whole order" which is fine since we were ready but she could have had better personality. She delivered our food and forgot one of the meals (again, fine since everyone makes mistakes) but she did not return to see how we were doing or if we need anything until we are noticably finished with our meal and waiting for the check. The food wasn't great but not bad. I would have been able to overlook the subpar meal if Bernadette B was attentive/kind. Unfortunately she will be the reason this place ends up with a for sale sign.

Katherine A.

Yelp
Great food! Compliments to the chef and wonderful service! Cinnamon Roll from the in-house pastry chef was excellent which we treated ourselves as breakfast dessert.

Leah H.

Yelp
Such a great atmosphere if your looking for an old fashioned and fun diner! Great breakfast food. Definitely brings back nostalgic memories.... ordered an omlet and it was super fluffy and delicious. The sourdough toast was covered in butter but delicious boyfriend got the big breakfast which came with HUGE PANCAKES. Come here for casual eats! Don't expect anything fancy and you'll be happy and satisfied.

Daniel M.

Yelp
It is not fine dining. It is a diner. I save 5 stars for truly exceptional food. The service is good to great depending on how busy they are. But it's at least good all the time. I have eaten maybe 10 dishes. All were prepared perfectly. Why not 5 stars? It's still diner food. But I can say that it's the best diner food I have had.

Karl K.

Yelp
Good diner in Hadley. I recommend the omelettes here for breakfast. Super nice waitresses also.

Desirae L.

Yelp
First time I went I wasn't too impressed by the food but the second time I got their biscuits and gravy and they were to amazing. I have yet to find a place that makes them better.

Marissa B.

Yelp
Great food and excellent portions. Prices are great and the service was super friendly. Try the clam chowder, it was the bomb.

Scotty B.

Yelp
Had a great breakfast at Johnny's roadside dinner. Got exactly what I was looking for. A simple well executed meal.
