Best of Hands Brewery Brings a Large Plastic Cow to West Seattle Soon | Eater Seattle

"Formerly a long-time convenience store in the space Best of Hands Barrelhouse is taking over, John's Corner Deli is remembered for the building's local-icon rooftop—a life-size plastic cow—that the new owners are restoring as an homage to the deli's heritage." - Tim Forster

I first tried John’s in the 90s and my go to was a corned beef special. I moved out of state and today was my first visit back in almost 30 years. The store has obviously aged ,right along with me and I did notice that it could use some TLC And it seemed a little dark, but there were tables and chairs where you could eat. So I asked for the same thing, the corned beef special, and sadly, the owner no longer orders it because she doesn’t get enough requests for it. so she suggested turkey breast instead of the corned beef, which I thought was a great idea so that’s what I ordered. She thoughtfully put the coleslaw on the side, so the sandwich wasn’t a mess by the time I got home and she also informed me that the turkey breast is made in house which I thought could be a complete disaster or a delicious new find. I was pleasantly surprised. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. I could only eat half of it so you definitely get your money’s worth. I found the owner to be reserved, but not rude at all as some of the reviews have suggested. She seemed like a very lovely person An informed me that she had been there for about 35 years and is now the owner. I will definitely be going back for this as well as the breakfast sandwiches, which seem to be big sellers and they also cater. “ Mom and Pop “ stores are getting harder and harder to find so I’m delighted to find one of my old favorites still going.

Wonderful little deli. Both women working were very friendly and helped me decide what to get for lunch. Chicken cutlet sandwich is top notch; the ingredients are fresh and the bread is excellent. Give this place a shot, you won’t be disappointed!

They have good food but they are the most miserable people in Aston. They are always short and sound as if they can care less if your there. Don’t forget if we don’t buy you don’t have a business.

Different cheesesteak #1048 in the last five years. Interesting stop. I explain in full video. I got the chocolate chip cookies, 4 for $2, you know I love that. The cookie dough dipped in chocolate and chocolate cherries looked amazing. They were making chicken cutlets. I was extremely close to getting a chicken cutlet sandwich. They use their oven roasted beef for the cheesesteak. I was surprised how different the texture was from a steak. $8 cheesesteak. When I have been a good boy and deserve a treat I will be going back.

I've never had a bad sandwich there. I usually buy party sandwich trays. Always delicious and fresh.

Home cooked food everyday. They make the food right there and you can taste it! They know exactly what my daughter wants and always ask her how school was. It gives the feeling of the way things used to be. Johns is the classic warm cozy feeling I wish I could have every day!

I ordered an American Hoagie and the lady asked me what was on the hoagie. How do you work in a deli and not know. Wasn't very pleasant either

John's Corner Deli exemplifies everything special about small, locally owned businesses. Deb, the owner, is incredibly hardworking and takes a personal interest in her customers. Regulars will appreciate how she remembers names and food preferences, adding a personal touch you simply won’t find at big chains. Food here is always fresh and delicious, with specials rotating regularly. For instance, chicken cutlets might only be available every other Thursday, or roast beef on a specific day. If a particular special, like mushroom soup, isn’t your favorite, the regular menu always offers plenty of great options to choose from. Primarily a breakfast and lunch spot, the deli operates with an early morning start and closes around 6 PM. It’s not really a dinner destination, but if you plan ahead, it’s perfect for picking up something simple to take home. Deb also offers catering services and preplanned holiday meals, though you’ll need to coordinate with her directly. Delivery services like GrubHub or DoorDash aren’t offered, likely due to their high fees, which can significantly cut into already tight profit margins in the food industry. However, this doesn’t take away from the experience. Working from home, I often call ahead to place my order and pick it up on my way out. My food is always ready when I arrive, and the quick trip doubles as a nice break from the computer. John's Corner Deli is more than just a place to grab a bite—it’s a welcoming spot where customers feel valued, and every meal reflects Deb’s commitment to quality and care. A much better option than Wawa, and a local gem worth supporting!

Yelp
Decent deal for a value-priced hoagie! Not the most artful sandwiches ever, but decent for $5.50 on an 8" roll. We tried John's the other day for sandwiches. They don't have a menu (except for party trays) so you make up what you want and voila. The staff was very friendly and professional, especially for their young age. The young man who made our food said, "I hope you like it," when he handed them off to us, which was very thoughtful. It shows pride in good work, which is really appreciated. Meats were decent and fresh, rolls fresh too. I was told I'd get a 12" roll for $5.50, which would have been an amazing deal, and I was all ready to rave about the deal on Yelp, but what I got was only an 8" roll, which, in light of my anticipation, was kind of disappointing, but for $5.50 it was still a good deal for the quality of deli meats. The store was clean and tidy. There was a dining area if you wants to eat in, and typical selection of tastykakes, chips, drinks, etc. that come with the deli atmosphere. Typical old school corner store.

Yelp
John's truly takes me back to when times were good. Family owned and operated. I love the option to eat my homemade soup there or taking it home. My daughter loves being greeted and loved everyday. The food is amazing. The people are even better!

Yelp
Trying to finish an Italian hoagie from John's right now. I have no idea why I have driven past this local joint so many times to get to Wawa. Quality of meat, cheese and roll is far better than any chain store in the area. The amount of product in the sandwich is more than I can eat and the best part is the meat and cheese was all sliced fresh for my sandwich. Cheers to this local spot for providing a great product and fantastic service by everyone.

Yelp
Good amount of meat, large-ish size for only $6. Def will be back! Way better than Wawas processed meats.

Yelp
My favorite place to get amazing breakfast sandwiches! Love their chicken salad and roast beef. Friendly hometown atmosphere.

Yelp
Wow who is the mid day girl working fridays? Blonde hair YUM. I will be back my lord. And glad the owner upgraded the soft pretzels. Pretzel boys suck. Raw and overpriced crapolia.
