First and last visit to Joi. Really disappointed the food and quality did not match the ambiance or service. The place looks great, and the staff were friendly, but the food was overpriced and not fresh. We ordered the shishito peppers, which came out soggy, and the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was bland and lacked flavor. I also tried the lobster taco for $18, only to find it was made with imitation lobster meat. The executive sushi combo lunch was the biggest letdown the fish wasn’t fresh, had a fishy smell, and the sashimi slices were paper thin. The rolls were barely filled with anything. We also ordered the beef bento, and the steak was overcooked, dry, and flavorless. The only positives were the service and the restaurant’s interior. Sadly, the food was such a disappointment definitely not worth the $160 we spent for lunch.

We had an outstanding experience! The customer service was exceptional—truly a standout. The manager is top-notch and leads a team that is equally impressive. We travel often and have the chance to try a wide range of cuisine, and this place absolutely stands out. The food is not only creative and full of flavor, but it's hands down the best sushi and dumplings we've had in Austin. Highly recommend!

I stumbled upon JOI Asian Bistro while walking around the area and I'm so glad I decided to give it a try! The food was amazing! The Taiwanese Chicken Popcorn was a highlight - crispy, flavorful, and addictive. The Sesame Chicken was also delicious. And the Sun-Kissed drink was refreshing and perfect for a warm day. Our server, Ryan, was top-notch - friendly, attentive, and made our experience even better. Overall, JOI Asian Bistro exceeded my expectations and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for tasty Asian cuisine. Can't wait to come back!

Incompetent staff in the front of house. While the food is generally good, the staff tends to be slow. Mangers sit and talk together while patrons wait unattended. Even the simplest asks take extraordinary long during non-busy hours.

The checkin process with our reservation was smooth and so was the ordering process. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the wagyu beef sliders, braised short ribs, xiao long bao, and pork sabaro ramen. The sliders were great and so were the fries that came alongside it. They could’ve used less vegetables on it so help focus on the beef flavor but it was still good. The xiao long bao was pretty good as well, not as good as it would be at a dedicated dumpling spot but still above what we expected. The best part of the meal was the braised short rib. It was cooked to perfection and was extremely tender and juicy, just phenomenal. Unfortunately the biggest letdown was the ramen. The toppings were fine but the broth itself had zero flavor, almost like it was regular packaged ramen broth. Outside of the food the staff were great. They got us our orders quick and were incredibly receptive. We ordered a few drinks as well while we were there: the Japanese old fashioned, pineapple inferno, and lychee harmony. All of us liked the flavor of our drinks, although they were stronger than expected. Cumulatively, JOI is a fun and very good restaurant in The Domain. We were pleasantly surprised by the food although if you are searching for Asian food specifically then this would not be your best bet.

Beautiful restaurant, amazing food and service! Our waiter was Antoine and he was great, very welcoming! We tried some of the specials from the father's day menu (steak and katsu pork belly bao), calamari, wagyu sliders, crispy rice crudo, creme brulee, and mochi and loved everything. The steaks were especially tender and delicious with the ponzu glaze. Definitely returning!

Came to JOI Asian Bistro hoping for a great meal, but the experience fell short. Service was terrible—food and drinks took forever to arrive, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. The food itself was decent. The spicy chicken and lobster tacos were the highlights, while the tuna sushi was just okay. The decor is nice, but the place lacked energy and atmosphere. Overall, it didn’t live up to expectations, and with so many great spots in Austin, I may not visit again.

Stopped by last minute right before closing, and the service was incredible. The manager took our order immediately because we knew exactly what we wanted. He seated us where we had a wonderful view. It definitely has a high-end atmosphere—modern, elevated, and perfect for a refined yet relaxed dining experience. The food? Amazing. The fried rice was $24—a bit pricey, but worth every penny. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The servers were incredibly attentive despite the late hour, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Definitely coming back for more!

Food was good, flavorful and served hot, nothing to rave about but it was not bad. I'd probably rank it a solid 6.5/10. The service was solid as well, not bad but not exceptional. The restaurant is very nice on the inside, lots of seating. Would I go again, yes. Is it at the top of my list for Asian cuisine? No. I've been blessed to have been to some amazing restaurants, this was clearly a good and solid restaurant.

Terrible food and service all around. No one enjoyed the meal in my group, and to cap it one of the people in our party has a food allergy and had to use an EpiPen when Joi accidentally added the allergy to her dish. Mistakes happen with allergies, but the resolution was to send the server (not a manager) out to tout that they took that dish off the bill (still added 20% gratituty without a visit from any sort of manager). I have been in the service industry for a long time and I honestly can't say I've had worse food, poorer service, for food that is wildly overpriced... but hey, you get the cool grassy area to let your kids run around in while you eat. My advice, go eat at any of the other restaurants in the domain, then come to this place and get a drink if you want to enjoy the area, trust me.

The restaurant was pretty empty when my friends and I got there. I ordered a passionfruit prescription cocktail, which was tasty. For an appetizer I had the hamachi crudo. The fish was fresh. I had the strawberry and tuna roll for my entree. It wasn't very spicy but I enjoyed the spicy salmon and the strawberry with the wasabi aioli. It was my friend's birthday and the waitress offered her a free shot, which was nice. However, the waitress couldn't split our bill so we all had to write down different numbers next to what we ordered so she could separate the checks.

Went here for happy hour bites and also to try some of their main entree items. So on the day I was there, they had the whole main dinner booked out so everyone else had to be seated in the patio area. That was fine, however I wanted to order some dishes off the main menu and I was told that nothing was available. Wow! Not sure if that was because of the event going on in the restaurant. So we pretty much ordered everything off the happy hour menu. The items were decent for the prices, but they did take a while to come out. Also everyone in my party of 4 ordered a shrimp tempura roll but only 2 of them had that extra orange colored sauce as decor and for taste on the plate. Wish things could have been a little better.

It's more like a 2 star but the prices are not too bad and the vibes were on point. So 3 it is. We stopped by this place for drinks and an early dinner on a lovely Sunday afternoon of shopping. The place has a beautiful interior and a wonderful outdoor patio. The drinks are nice but the food was simply not good. I'm sad because the menu has so many delicious sounding items which makes me think this place has so much potential. The chicken truffle dumplings ($12) were probably the driest most bland dumplings I've ever had. They were slathered in a strange sticky sweet sauce. The calamari ($14) was fried nicely but also had no flavor. The Hiramo sushi roll ($21) was also slaughtered in sticky sweet sauces. You could tell that the fish was not very high-quality, the tuna crudo ($19) was chewy and stringy too. My friend also mentioned that the chicken ramen ($18) lacked flavor. The staff are very polite.

Sunny day, beautiful weather, and a great time for some Asian infusion and a cocktail. It all paired out perfectly for a small outing at the Domain. I got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was all very flavourful and tasty. What a great location to have a joyful Sunday afternoon. Next time I'll come for lunch or dinner and try more things of the menu. So far, it got me curious enough to come back.

Waiter was NOT listening. I was flagging that girls down for a solid minute but she just kept talking to that bartender. She didnt even GLANCE at ANY of the tables. Also food tasted like straight soy sauce AND was expensive as hell. DO NOT ever go to this place if you actually enjoy good food and service.

So sad...we were once regulars here but moved to Lakeway so we only come once in a while...it's gone so far downhill. The young sushi chef was yelling across the restaurant to his server friends and cussing. The food was extremely salty - it was inedible - specifically the miso and some Korean chicken dish my husband got - He took 1 bite and couldn't keep going. The rolls used to be SO good but now I'd give them a 2 out of 10 - no flavor, fishy, less pieces than years before, etc. The vibes and aesthetic are so nice but the staff is careless.

Came across this restaurant as I was looking for a spot for an afternoon cocktail and light bites. The place is elegant with a relaxing and chill atmosphere. The host and servers were welcoming and immediately accommodated me. They have a few interesting choices of drinks and cocktails and varieties of sushi, sashimi, bowls and just abt everything. I elected for my lychee martini and a couple of sushi rolls. I also didn't wait to be serve my drink and rolls. My drink was tasty and made right. The sushi rolls tasted fresh and delicious. I enjoyed my time alone and will definitely be returning to this spot again in the future.

To start, we tried the vegetable tempura which was Ok. Tried 2 of their Vegan and Veggie Sushi which was kind of disappointing for me! For the main courses, I requested them make me a Veggie noodle and add some extra veggies ! I would say I loved the thin noodles ! Decided to skip the desserts ! Overall service was good ! Love the location as you can also opt to sit outside in the patio if the weather is good ! (Definitely not during Texas summers) Overall, this place offers a decent experience but with room for improvement. For vegetarians seeking a standout meal, it may be worth exploring other options in Domain !

I went here for a group dinner. I had heard mixed things from others - which is what I'm seeing here on Yelp - but the guest of honor wanted to go here, so I was more than happy to give it a try. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, which was lovely. We were seated on the patio, which was a good mix of an indoor and outdoor vibe since it was covered, but also open air. I just thought the food was OK. I've certainly had worse, but I've also had better. We shared various appetizers and then I had the spicy orange beef. I know beef is expensive, but I wasn't sure this was the right value for the quality of the meal. The cocktails were nice - I had the lychee harmony.

The outdoor seating is under utilized. It's such a great vibe for getting work done or the perfect lunch meeting. We had bento boxes that have to be the best in town. Fresh chicken and salmon as the mains with all the fixings of the traditional bento. Make time and check them out.

Went on weekdays and it wasn't busy but the modern decor was great. Also outdoor dining was screened and stayed cool there. We weren't too hungry but menu had plenty of sushi and ramen options with apps and desserts. We got two sushi's and both were great, I'm not a chopsticks person so I had to ask for one. Service was okay, wasn't rushed but my server was watching the game so took me awhile to get the fork. Otherwise it would be five stars

The server was nice and attentive but we waited a while for there only being two other people there. The food is very mediocre for the price, both taste and portion size. Also some of our dishes came out cold. It does have a very nice atmosphere but I wouldn't recommend it overall.

Been to Joi a few times and loved their food. Decided to take my friend for dinner there the other day and had a really bad experience. Service was not only slow but it was terrible. Only bartender came to help. All other staff was sitting around in the corner chatting and on their phone, not once did they come our way. We ordered all the items they had on their happy hour menu. - Sushi tuna burrito was ok. Had a wasabi cream sauce that made it difficult to eat. - Steak skewers was dry and salty - Sushi tacos was good, def my favorite - Sushi pizza was not tasty at all. - Pork belly Bao was descent We were so disappointed that we probably wouldn't be coming back.

My partner and I came here on a Friday evening and overall, had a decent experience. We were seated very quickly (I highly recommend the indoor/outdoor dining area) and the staff was kind. I ordered the "One night in Bangkok" cocktail, as recommended by the server, and I really liked it! I had asked for something light, refreshing, and fruity and it hit all those marks. As for the food, we ordered some tofu buns as our app and I REALLY liked them! The tofu texture was super crispy and as a vegetarian, a unique treat because you don't see tofu breaded like that often. I ended up getting their noodle dish and they were able to accommodate me by adding tofu to it. Unfortunately, I did not like it. I found it to be bland and overly oily. My partner ordered some fish items and seemed to really enjoy them. As I was writing this review, I asked for his thoughts and if it were up to him, he would give Joi four stars. I personally, would come back but specifically for happy hour drinks and apps. However, my pescaterian partner enjoyed it far more and would come back again for the sushi!

Located inside the Domain, Joi offers a variety of Asian fusion dishes. I'm surprised with the low reviews-the food is great! The omelet over rice was surprising to me-usually I see rice inside the omelette (omurice) but I accepted it since it's a fusion. Ramen broth is flavorful and warm. It is a bit dark inside. If it was brighter, then the environment could be more inviting. There weren't a lot of people dining in when we went during lunch hours.

We were here to celebrate our anniversary and had a great time. The service was very helpful in guiding us and answering our questions. We enjoyed the food we ordered--everything tasted fantastic.

Amazing food that is easy to share amongst a group so you can share several dishes. We came for lunch and were able to get seated immediately. Food was very unique and extremely tasty! Service was quick and it was a layer back environment. Recommend checking this out if you are shopping in the area.

Service was good. We actually ordered all of the recommendations from the server, which makes me really wonder about the other options. Food was GROSS. We started with the popcorn chicken appetizer. Basically chicken McNuggets drowning in sweet and sour sauce and floating on a mound of wilting iceberg lettuce. We ordered the steak sushi. It wasn't even edible. Dumplings drowning in some other sauce. Vegetable noodles were okay. Didn't order drinks and came close to $100. Food wasn't fresh, Sisco frozen food is my guess. Applebees version would've been a step up.

We tried the lobster taco, pork soboro ramen, and karage bento box with california roll. The outside seating is contained under a very large tree adjacent to the turf where people gather in the Domain. It was slightly odd to have someone sitting just on the other side of our table in the open public turf area but the setting under the large tree was too fun and lovely to pass up. Service was good. Food was just okay.

Meh. The food was okay. Nothing too spectacular, but it wasn't too bad either. I actually would like to try the happy hour one day here. Inside is nice and clean; however, there were a few flying bugs that kept flying around the food--it was annoying. Nice atmosphere with music played through the speakers and our waiter was attentive. Although we didn't sit outside, they have outdoor seating too.

Great food, quick service and fun atmosphere! We always hit the same spots when up by the domain and decided to try something new! This place will now be a regular spot when we are up that way. It was great for lunch, we got sat right away with no reservation. Got to try lots of yummy food and had some fun drinks!

If you want to pay 25 dollars for a bowl of rice with veggies this is your place. If you call and try to explain why you aren't happy with not getting tuna delivered in your poke bowl, don't waste your breath. Cheers

Went for a work dinner, was a great space for it. Not too moody, not too upscale, but still good for eating with your coworkers and boss Drinks were cute and yummy! The sushi was pretty good and the fish tasted fresh. Service was okay-- we had a pretty large group which probably had an impact, but there was some weird back and forth going on with our check at the end. Would totally go again, just not the best place I've ever eaten at

New Asian fusion spot in the domain! Joi does a little bit of everything well. We went for a casual dinner at the bar during the UT game last weekend. Highlights were the great cocktails (got a perfectly made espresso martini), and very authentic Asian dishes. We got the XLB soup dumplings which were surprisingly some of the best we have had in Austin. We also got some Nigiri which was reasonably priced and portioned. Ambiance was fine but it just wasn't busy because it's a pretty new spot. Will definitely be my go to when in the domain for a nice date night Asian food

Delicious dinner just inside the dining space (so not fully sitting "inside"). Great server, "DG," see photo, was friendly, extremely helpful, and very attentive to our enjoyment of the meal. Had a sushi appetizer and truffle dumpling. Yum. Also a great, nice size Caesar salad offering (as I recall), along with the shrimp and pork shumai (which I would pass on next time, as overcooked, chewy, and not particularly flavorful), and the sirloin which was tender and delicious. DG made me coffee which was A+ service and really appreciated. Good meal in a nice setting, at a reasonable price.

Enjoyed a girls night out at Joi last weekend! We grabbed an 8:30pm reservation and the restaurant was pretty empty that late. Ambiance was beautiful but service was spotty. The staff was friendly and took our drink + food orders promptly, but after bringing out round 1 of drinks and our food, we never saw them again. They never checked in to see if we wanted to order more drinks, refill water, or anything. That was disappointing. The food was fantastic! My friend and I ordered: - Chicken truffle dumplings which were melt in your mouth delicious. - Wok Fried Asian Noodles - super flavorful and a very generous portion of meat + noodles! - Smokin Texas Roll - a little pricey for an 8 piece roll but very good quality!

I've passed Joi many times while being in the Domain and finally stopped by for the first time for a team dinner. We had the Brussel sprouts, truffle fries, shishito peppers, pork & shrimp dumplings and chicken & truffle dumplings for appetizers. The brussels were under cooked but the fries were perfectly crispy and the pork & shrimp dumplings were definitely one of the best items of the night. We each got individual rolls and I went with the Smokin' Texas Roll. It included spicy salmon, shrimp tempura, avocado, jalapeno, scallion, unagi sauce, wasabi mayo. I would return for those rolls alone as they were to die for! To drink I got a lychee martini and I could've done without it, should've went with one of their house cocktails. With it being my first time, everything I tried was experimental but would return for the things that stood out to me!

Their salmon truffle were delicious. Their taiwanese fried chicken were okay. Sichuan spicy dumpling were not my favorite. The Hamachi was great. So my preferences are their raw sushi dishes.

WORST AUSTIN RESTAURANT EVER. Why? - many items unavailable - Mussels in shells were mostly missing - Fish looked horrible and served on wood with no utensils - salad and tomatoes were wilted and old - men's toilet urinal out of service - paper towels were out Server suggested avoiding several items that were bad. In the end when we complained, night manager acknowledge huge problems were still to be fixed. Best part: Nice Russian server girl and lights outside. IMHO, best avoided if you actually want to eat!

I really liked the food and drinks at Joi! It was a modern ambiance and decor. We snagged a Valentines Day reservation and it was solid food. Shishito peppers and fried rice were excellent. The tempura was ok, crispy but the sauce was not very flavorful.

Nope. Service slow. Food not good. Dumplings really overcooked. Toro not edible, weird cut, chewy.

Server was nice, but seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. The menu isn't impressive. First salmon was undercooked. The 2nd attempt took an additional 25 mins and was drastically under seasoned. (could not finish). All in all, a complete waist of $50 and an hour and a half. (appetizer, meal, and water) Wouldn't recommend for lunch or dinner, but the ambiance does fit for a few drinks with a date.

Joi Asian bistro has wonderful outdoor and indoor seating that makes eating enjoyable at the Domain. However, the food was mid at best. The salmon (it's sashimi style with around 6 pieces) with the truffle sauce was a bit pricey compared to what I have usually had and the vegetable fried rice tasted like rice smothered in heaps of soy sauce with a few pieces of scrambled eggs and broccoli. The calamari was the highlight of the night, being perfectly crispy and an equally yummy dipping sauce to go with it. If you like sweet drinks, One Night in Bangkok was pretty good. Overall service was nice and kept checking in.

I sat down outside at the staff was exceedingly nice. They have a new outdoor patio and the weather was brilliant. I ordered the truffle salmon poke. It tasted great but was expecting a poke bowl. Not bad just a heads up. Overall a positive experience and ill go there again.

Chicken Karrage or whatever came out very undercooked. Yuck. Sent back and ordered pork gyoza and it came out stupid spicy. Chef was having a bad day, poor baby.

Came in for the bento box but it's only for lunch! Though I was sad I did enjoy the tofu sushi and the tofu boa. Both were such good choices in my opinion. I liked the food a lot. Loved the DJ right outside. Put me in such a good mood. It's so nice inside and the food came quickly. My server was quick and nice and barely there. Which is all good. I will be back for lunch. I need it.

I am not a fan of writing negative reviews. If you don't believe me, you can check for yourself in my past reviews. The good news is it is a trendy spot and clean and fresh. My party of three ordered all different items and the one thing we all said was it all lacked seasoning. I actually just ordered the Chicken fried rice. It was a large portion and had plenty of chicken but literally no flavor. My wife ordered the tempura shrimp and really had no comment. My son had ordered 2 items and was told one was not available already and it was early dinner service. He eats out daily and lives downtown Austin. He was really disappointed with the whole meal. This was his choice, so we are going to blame him. We didn't order any drinks so I can't speak to how they are, but I would probably not go back for dinner.

Wow. Everything we ordered here was absolutely delicious. The rolls, lobster tacos, dumplings and drinks were all so enjoyable. Compliments to the chef!!!! We started with Xiao Long Bao and the lobster tacos and both were just so satisfying. We followed with hamachi jalapeño roll and viva roll and were pleased with both. We also enjoyed the Sichuan pork wontons with chili aioli- the flavors in this!!!! Drinks: Shishito mango margarita and Master Splinter - both were absolutely delicious! The staff are friendly, the restaurant is nice and clean. I love this place, I've been twice and have not been disappointed.

To be honest after reading reviews I wasn't too eager to try this place but we were out and about and didn't feel like driving somewhere else to eat! Also domain food usually disappoints...SO I WAS BLOWN AWAY by this place. Service was amazing when I walked in three people at different times came to ask if we've been helped and the host will be right with me. We were quickly greeted by our server (one of the people who checked on us) and she was so bubbly and had recommendation for each area of the menu! We started with their oysters which was a chefs special but I really hope they keep this around because it was one of the best oysters we've had in a while! Poke was amazing (better than casual poke places around town), the wasabi salt was very salty and we actually enjoy that one but it was perfectly crispy, chili dumplings were good and didn't care for the chicken truffle dumplings. Definitely will be back to try other things and hopefully the oysters if they keep that around!

Food was okay/good, service was great, restaurant was clean and spacious. The portions are small, anything to share/appetizers would probably only feed two or less. The kaarage chicken needed a little more sweetness, but the breading was light and crisp, the sauce added the extra flavor that the chicken lacked. The best dish was the dumplings, however for a $10+, plate we only received about 3 dumplings, might've been 4? The cucumbers were good, but I think they needed to be pickled. Didn't really have much flavor besides the chili oil on top of it.

Very good sushi place in the Domain. First off the service was top notch. Friendly, attentive, and super helpful in making suggestions. The sushi is fresh and some of the roll combos are quite tasty. The Lobster tacos are an interesting appetizer and boy they really pull it off. Nice crunch from the shells and the lobster stuffing is delicious. The Iku Iku roll was good as well. It packs a bit of a punch with the serranos but you can pick those off if the heat is too much. Loved the Joi Signature roll. It packs the flavor in nice bite size portions. Our favorite. Give this place a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Sushi date part 2. This was not were we originally were headed but it was hot and we didn't want to walk around the Domain looking for the place. So happy we stumbled upon this site. No wait which was nice. The service was impeccable, I loves the purse/coat rack they bring to your table. This was more of an Asian fusion and less sushi which was kind of a bummer but the food was great! A little pricey for what you get but I expect that in the Domain. Not sure with all the options if I would make it a point to come back but overall 5 stars yall

We came in the other day and were greeted at the door with a smiling face and the music was upbeat and set the tone right away. Our server Chris did an excellent job of picking a wine for my wife and was very knowledgeable about what kind of sushi would be a good "beginner's sushi experience" (toro + smoked salmon + snow crab). It was her first attempt at sushi and it couldn't have gone any better. I got their special, the Lobster Roll. Wow! The only thing that could have been better was the men's bathroom had a pungent odor as soon as I walked in, which seemed like a disconnect and more appropriate for a truck stop urinal than an upscale sushi restaurant restroom. Food and bad odor don't mix if you know what I mean. I didn't lower my overall rating because the service and food were so good and the dining room smelled good. I highly recommend these guys!
