Yelp
Have you ever been to a place that not many people know about but people in the know frequent because it's cozy, comfortable, bestows a great ambiance, and offers good products? Perhaps a speakeasy, a jazz club, or an independent bookstore with nooks? This is how I felt when I went to Jo Jo's on a cool Thursday night.
Jo Jo's offers a beautiful ambiance with a newly restored (beautiful brick) patio. Jo Jo's reminds me of a restaurant I could visit in Queens, NY or on K Street in Sacramento. Jo Jo's is off the beaten path, and serendipitously, we across it leaving the Tucson Museum of Art.
Our waitress was pleasant and welcoming. When I go out, I often look for a dish I never had, a signature, or unique to expand my palate. To drink, I had the Tres Verdes. While I appreciate the taste of mescal, I think the jalapeno was too forward. To eat, I had the poblano tamal. While the dish was unique and had a pleasant taste, I felt the portion size was small, especially because of the price. Perhaps offer a side of rice or beans. Our appetizer, the chorizo stuffed dates, was undoubtedly the zenith of the meal. I would absolutely order this every time! Amazing. I recommend trying Jo Jo's and look forward to coming back.
