18 Best Restaurants in Raleigh, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Chef Scott Crawford has been at the forefront of Raleigh’s fine dining scene for years, and Jolie, his take on a classic French bistro, is one of the jewels in his culinary crown. The abbreviated bistro menu has top hits like French onion soup, steak fries, and poulet roti alongside seasonally rotating dishes like a roasted delicate squash for fall or a swordfish grenobloise with roasted cauliflower. The rooftop deck is the place to be during warm nights, and the weekend brunch is incredibly popular." - Matt Lardie

"B" took great care of us on our first visit. We had a wonderful time and a big part of that was her attentive service. Thank you for making my birthday an evening to remember. The French onion soup was amazing and my wife's gnocchi dish was fantastic. It's a great place for a date night in an intimate environment. You may even end up having a fun conversation with the table next to you. 😃

I loved this place! I went here for my birthday dinner with my best friend and despite no reservation on a Saturday we actually managed to snag a table on the roof. It was a super windy night but everything was handled professionally, there are heaters and curtains. The stairway is beautifully decorated so of course we had to snap a pic. The food was incredible! Yummy bread and herb butter, great wine selection, and the special scallops I had were delicious. My friend is vegetarian and normally when there is only one option she isn't too hyped but she was raving about the gnocchi. She said she wanted to eat it everyday. The desert was out of this world, decadent chocolate mousse that felt like just enough after all that rich food. Would love to visit again! I hope they can expand one day, they seem like they need more space!

Google
You must make a reservation. This place is always booked. Have to say it's definitely a fine dining experience. The service is top notch and so friendly! There is even a sweet, gorgeous, college student working there who speaks French if you're in need of practice to speak French. Interestingly, there is like a bar in the basement so you can feel the floor shake sometimes 😂. Everything is amazing, tartare, escargot, steak and fish. Drinks are special by the bartender so be sure to try one of his limited time craft drinks. Definitely 10 out of 10 must go, in Raleigh.

Google
Mixed experience - foodwise, gnocchi was disappointing with thick, crumbly texture & there was not much chocolate flavor for the dark chocolate mousse. Escargot & steak frites were delicious with craveable sauces. Cocktails were also good, but several server missteps took away from the experience as well. Missed the mark for a romantic night out.

Google
We dined at Jolie for the first time for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! Highly recommend dining on the rooftop if it’s available. Ambiance was perfect for date night! We had the porkchop and gnocchi and both were delicious.

Google
Only came for cocktails and ordered the bread and butter, but both were splendid! If planning to sit on the rooftop, make a reservation, we were able to snag a table day of when we came in but when we wanted to change it, the other times were already booked! They have a full bar, the dirty martini I got was top 5 for me! Colleen was a great server and was knowledgeable about the menu and gave great suggestions. The bread and butter is not an app to skip on, it was the perfect small app and butter melted in your mouth!

Google
Absolutely amazing! The bread and butter is to die for. Definitely worth the order. I could eat that butter on its own, it was so good! I’ve also tasted many French onion soups in many different restaurants, and this one might come out on top of all of them! It was deliciously made, the cheese they use is perfect, and everything in it compliments each other so well. There was a very well balanced amount of each ingredient so every bite was perfect. My significant other ordered the bisque which was also delicious. We ordered the steak frites which were cooked beautifully, and the ratatouille (first time trying that) which was fantastic. The chocolate cake was beautifully accompanied by the pistachio ice cream and everything about it was amazing. We tried their seasonal dessert as well which was a vanilla ice cream with peaches and nuts. This dessert was also delicious. The service was well paced and the atmosphere on the roof was beautiful during the sunset. I couldn’t have better things to say about this spot. Absolutely fantastic experience and I would definitely return.

Google
Perfect way to spend a Wednesday. Great food. Great staff. From servers, to runners, to bartenders, to chefs. Jolie delivers. And LOVE that the menu is seasonal. Had the mussels. Perfection. Side note from someone who put themselves through school serving and bartending. The place is immaculate. Merci beaucoup!

Yelp
Some of the most creative and decadent food I've had in Raleigh. With a New York style dining inside and rooftop seating up top, Jolie offers some of the best dining in Raleigh. I ordered the steak frites and carrot butter gnocchi thinking the steak would be the easy number 1 but while the steak was quite good, it didn't hold a candle to the carrot gnocchi. I still think about that dish to this day. All this to say, trust chef Crawford's pairings and order something that might be outside of your norm and you won't regret it! If you go and have no idea what to get, the staff guide you perfectly through the menu from cocktails, through wine pairings, entrees, and anything else you may need. Definitely make reservations to try and get the rooftop seating if you see nice weather in the forecast!

Yelp
I came with my wife on a Saturday for dinner, and thankfully were able to get a reservation pretty last minute. I think someone had just cancelled their reservation beforehand, so we were able to get a 5:15pm reservation. It's a small space, so I would highly recommend a reservation. We started with the Charcuterie & Fromage, which included goat cheese, sheep cheese, chicken liver pate, some charcuterie, olives, and almonds with some slices of baguette. It was a good starter plate - I enjoyed both cheeses and meats, and really enjoyed the pate - it was just the right consistency and had nice flavor to it. I understand pate is not for everyone, and I'm actually pretty ambivalent towards it (I can appreciate it when it's there, but never crave it), but this pate was really good - it was probably my favorite part of the dish! I ordered the Beef Cheek Bourguignon as my main dish. It was beef cheek with button mushrooms, lardons (think small but thick pieces of bacon), and pomme puree (think very silky mashed potatoes). The flavor was excellent, the meat was tender, the texture of the pomme puree was so smooth, and the whole dish came together really well. The beef cheek is not for everyone, since it's a bit on the fattier side, but I enjoyed it. My wife ordered the King Salmon, which came over garlic rice, gribiche butter, and wilted spinach. The flavors were ok and the Salmon was a bit too raw (and she likes her salmon pretty rare). It felt like a standard Salmon dish in terms of flavor, and there wasn't much that stood out to me. The service was very friendly, our server was very detailed in explaining the menu and answering our questions, and prompt in bringing the food out, while allowing us to enjoy each course. Again, the space is small, so we sat very close to our neighboring tables, which may take some adjustment for some people. It's a unique experience in downtown Raleigh.

Yelp
Another phenomenal Scott Crawford restaurant, Jolie, has been on my list of places to try for a while. Located in the Oakwood district right next to his flagship restaurant Crawford & Son, this tiny French bistro brought all the flavor and flair. The service was remarkable - our server was very knowledgeable of the food with great recommendations, and the timing between ordering, apps, and entree was on point. We started off with the escargot and french onion soup. The escargot was served in a buttery broth with broccolini alongside oil/butter toasted bread, a butter-lovers paradise. The buttery richness was balanced out by the acidity and salinity from the anchoide and capers. The french onion soup had that essential crusty cheese top layer with croutons soaked underneath in the savory, oniony beef broth - another superb and rich dish. For entrees, my husband got the steak frites and I got the duck daily special. The steak was cooked to medium rare perfection, the sauce entrecote was creamy, tangy, and herbaceous, and the frites were perfectly crisped and salted. I had a few qualms with the duck, the main one being that the fat was not crispy and rendered. The "truffle hydromel" sauce was interesting - it had some warming spices like cinnamon and clove, but was lacking truffle flavor. The potato rosti was delicious and crispy on the edges, plus had mounds of freshly shaved black truffle on top, which makes everything better. Jolie is a great location for French fine dining in Raleigh! *Escargot: lemon, anchoide, capers, broccolini (w/ toasted bread) *Onion Soupe: beef broth, crouton, fromage cantal *Steak Frites: hanger steak, sauce entrecote, herb frites *[Daily Special] Crescent Farm Duck: potato rosti, caramelized shallot, truffle hydromel (addition of fresh table-side shaved black truffle)

Yelp
Food was very good. The restaurant is intimate and close quarters, we sat inside, but would love to try the outdoor seating next time. It's still very pretty inside. A romantic, elegant feeling, while still having an engaging environment with the open kitchen. Our server was very nice. We weren't told the specials before placing an appetizer order, which bummed us out because we would've chosen the special instead. Overall a very good experience. We would recommend and we will be back!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. The steak frites with the white chocolate truffle fries were delicious! The decor of the restaurant was also gorgeous. Highly recommend.

Martin Q.

Yelp
We learnd it was possible to take a "chocolat chaud" on thurday by the window which is really cool especially when it's cold outside. First time here but I will be back to try more things because we were impressed by the quality of the chocolat chaud. The chocolate was rich and creamy the way we like it. The marshmallows was homemade and peppermint flavored. Only 8.66$ We need to come back.

Yelp
It was good! The steak frites is what they're known for from what I've seen. The reviews were all spot on for the most part - cooked to medium rare perfection and tender with good seasoning - but mine was also lukewarm? It was weird lol the fries were perfect. I should've clarified whatever mayo based sauce was on top of the steak because that really took away from the flavor of the dish as opposed to adding to it. It was thick and almost tangy? But maybe I'm just a silly American, what do I know lol the French onion soup was good, and the beef cheek bourguigon was the winner for sure. But overall, it was just fine for the price & probably not one we'd go back to. (There's just so many other places to try lol)

Yelp
Amazing food. So much better than coquette if you're looking for French food. All of the seasonings are on point, some are definitely mild but still super delicious. Cannot recommend it enough. There were 3 different dessert options: some sort of apple tart pastry, a chocolate mousse pistachio dessert (my and my husband's favorite), and I can't remember the last one but probably another chocolate one. Highly recommend the frog leg lyonnaise which is thinly battered and deep fried beautifully. They come with this great garlic parsley aioli. If you've never eaten frog before, it's a great introduction to it. The flavors are mild and delicate and the meat juicy and tender. The steak frites are absolutely fabulous. It's prepared medium rare (as it should be). My MIL prefers a medium cook on a steak so it wasn't her preference but she said the fries were great, nice and crispy. Everyone enjoyed those. Cod is nice! Not dry like a lot of fish dishes can be even at nice restaurants! The potato and leek soup is delicious as well, my toddler really enjoyed it. It comes with thinly sliced waffle cut chips. A great starter. The French onion soup is pretty good too but everyone preferred the leek soup. The duck is yummy as well but on the sweeter side and a fairly mild orange flavor. The service is attentive and super helpful and the server really went in depth with the food descriptions and restaurant's history. The restaurant is on the corner with outdoor seating on the sidewalk (dog friendly place!). It was super cold outside even with the heat lamps but very cute and cozy vibes all around. There are little lamps at the table that help for reading your menu. Be ready to throw down $$$$$ though. The food is excellent but it definitely adds up especially with a group. Someone was having a wedding reception at the restaurant too so fyi they do that haha. I believe they had rooftop access for their event.

Yelp
Quaint and cozy with excellent food and superb service. We had the French onion soup, stuffed eggs, escargot, beef tartare, a salmon special and a lobster special. Every appetizer and dish was full of flavor and on point for savory French food. Tori, our server was kind and attentive. Overall, when we're back in the area Jolie is on our return visit list.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner at Jolie last Saturday, and considering it was cold, we preferred table downstairs, but it was fully booked. We were assured upstairs would be comfortable; many heaters kept it so. They were 100% right. The waitress, service, the wine and the meal were excellent. It's a small place so advance booking especially on Saturdays is a must. We will go there again, and again.

Yelp
Amazing - fresh food - ! When you go out for a meal at this price point you expect a certain level of quality, freshness, and service. Jolie met all of those marks. The Crawford family of restaurants always meet the mark but Jolie for Mother's Day was excellent.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
The place is really small but they did a good job on making it cozy. We had a reservation and they were about 30 minutes behind and gave us a free appetizer to makeup for the wait. The food was incredible, I highly recommend the beef tartar. The area is also very cute and was pretty lively on a Friday night out! Don't miss checking out the speakeasy if you are eating at this restaurant it is free entry just ask the hostess to escort you down! Definitely will go back!
google avatar

Yelp
We were quite excited to finally make it to Jolie, just to face an utter disappointment. While the French onion soup was just OK, our main dishes were nothing to rave about. In fact, the trout ($36) was swimming in so much oil that I asked for another plate so I could transfer my food to and trying to avoid consuming the fat. Looking back, I should have returned it. Avoid.

Yelp
Jolie is one of our favorite restaurants in town. We love to make a reservation anytime we have an occasion to celebrate. We have great memories of a friends' birthday dinner and enjoyed the steak tartare, among many other tasty dishes! The ambiance on the rooftop can't be beat. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Another visit to my favorite Raleigh restaurant. As always, the food is extraordinary and service perfect. We sat at the bar this time. The restaurant is small and narrow, and the small bar area shares space with the open kitchen. It's always cool to watch the artists at work, creating all of the deliciousness. I neglected to note the name of our superstar bartender/server. It's a busy place, and she handled all of the things with an assured, professional smile and good nature. Especially impressive is shaking a mixed drink in one hand while simultaneously swirling a square ice cube in a glass with the other. THANK YOU for fantastic service. And the food. Started with onion soup and confit duck leg. Onion soup is the classic prep - a crock of hearty, rich, long-simmered beef/onion broth punched up with sherry. The crock is topped with croutons and a layer of cantel cheese. The crock is broiled to melt the cheese and turn it into gooey paradise. I've not had better French onion soup. The duck is a crispy-skin-on leg. Meat is tender, earthy and flavorful. The duck is plated with baby artichoke and carrots, with lardon (diced chunks of pork fat) and endive. Duck is sort of an acquired taste, and if you're a duck lover, this one is for you. Excellent. Loup de Mer is next. A pair of branzino filets with a stripe of skin still attached are pan seared. They're artfully served atop a pool of barigoule emulsion - artichoke, carrot, pearl onion, mushroom. The fish is flaky, white, moist. The crunchy skin a great contrast to the tender fish. The barigoule is an excellent complement - enhancing the flavor of the fish without overpowering. YUM! Also tried Parisienne gnocchi. The gnocchi are made from choux pastry mixed with gruyere cheese, not potato. They're light and fluffy. Served in a pool of garlicky broth with spring vegetables, truffles and dusted with parmesan. Not your Italian cousin's gnocchi - these are OUTSTANDING. Jolie is HIGHLY recommended. I'm always impressed by the attention to detail, from the food to the service. The best dinner in Raleigh.

Yelp
We came here for my wife's birthday and dropped around $300. We led with a nice bottle of champagne of course. The rabbit small plate and celery root salad small plate were amazing, as was the bread w herbed butter--wow on the butter--and the pear dessert. Our entrees (steak frites and duck stew) were fair--nothing to set them apart from other nice French restaurants but still enjoyable. The ambiance and vibe was really cozy yet laid back...next time I want to eat on the roof, but it was raining so that wasn't happening this go. Shout out fir the great service all around. We'll be back.

Yelp
What a wonderful little gem! I had wanted to try this place for a while and decided that it would be perfect for my birthday dinner. Our table wasn't ready at the time of our reservation so the staff took us down to the members only club/bar. What a fun little place. Alexander the bartender was fantastic! He whipped me up a birthday drink. You know that's an awesome bartender when you tell them if you like sweet or savory and they can come up with a different drink all their own. Alexander was friendly & fast. When we sat down to eat dinner up at the rooftop, our waiter Tres was great too. Made great suggestions on dishes. I was worried that it might be cold out on the rooftop but they had the place enclosed with thick drapes & heaters on. My only suggestion is to have it open a little more because we couldn't see anything. I understand they keep it closed for the weather but I was hoping for more ambiance. Overall though I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Raleigh! Date night, girls night, I've even gone here alone for a treat myself night! Menu is always fresh and amazing. Always evolving their menu with the seasons which I love

Yelp
We went to Jolie to celebrate my sister in laws birthday. We went on a Wednesday, but I would suggest making reservations ahead of time because there's not a lot of seating in the main floor. If I were to go again, I would sit at the bar so I can see what the chefs/bartenders are doing :) I love watching! It's a french restaurant, so definitely expect lots of butter and rich food. The gnocchi is a must eat! It tasted fluffy, not heavy and potato-y. It was sitting in this rich broth though that brought out the flavor of the entire dish. The trout was also really tasty (2 filets), so it will definitely fill you. My favorite part of the dinner? THE FANCY BUTTER. SO GOOD. And I couldn't stop telling our amazing server how much I loved the fancy butter. I may just go back for just the butter haha.

Yelp
Fantastic! My wife and I went last night for a date night dinner at Jolie. This was our first time here. Reservations are tough to get and with the reputation Chef Scott Crawford, we expected a top notch dining experience, which is what we got. The menu is French inspired with appetizers, soups and entrees. They had a frog leg special which we got along with the Yellowfin tuna for appetizers. Both were delicious. This was my wife's first foray into frog legs, she was pleasantly surprised. The legs were crispy and cooked perfectly. The yellow fin tuna was tasty and the shallots and citrus fennel complemented the fish really well. I went with the steak frites. The meat was cooked medium rare and topped with a bearnaise sauce and the herb frites. It was delicious! My wife had the Gnocchi which was surprisingly lite and not heavy! I had some as well and that will be my entree next time. Overall we had a great meal. However, it is loud in here and the seating is a bit tight. The staff was great too and answered all of my wife's questions regarding the dinner selections. Jolie is definitely one of the top dining establishments in Raleigh.

Jenni L.

Yelp
Jolie is such a cute little restaurant! It's a small, intimate space that gives Mediterranean vibes. I felt like I was in a small place in Italy or France having a slow and relaxing meal. The food itself was delicious. We tried a little bit of everything - the steak tartare (beautifully plated and presented almost like a palette of colors, a mix-it-yourself situation) with homemade sour cream and onion chips, the escargot, French onion soup, steak frites, trout, and gnocchi. Everything was so savory and filling. The only dish I may have reservations about would be the gnocchi - it was a bit softer in texture than I was expecting, but it could be good if that's what some people prefer. I had a wonderful time though and would return
google avatar

Julia Z.

Yelp
Incredibly disappointed in our dinning experience here. For a $300 dinner for two (with one glass of wine), I'd expect food to be cooked and served at the right temperature, medium rare being a true medium rare but not raw, and nothing taste off. And yet, all of those above happened to our main dishes. The scallop was raw and sandy, the steak was not seared at the edges and served lukewarm, and both overly salty. They did offer to recook everything, and steak then came out medium. I believe this is the limitation of the chef's ability at this point, we exchanged glances and just ate. Perhaps I just had too high an expectation of what Jolie could offer. I didn't finish a single dish that was served that night except my wine.

Yelp
Exquisite food, exquisite drinks, exquisite service. I had their soup and steak frites and a glass of wine and delicious!!! If there is a cream soup on the menu please please please try it. It is pure ambrosia. And steak frites is perfectly cooked and way too much frites. Darn! Luckily now it is around the corner so I have pooped in. Will make it a regular place for me. Delicious. Remember my mothers taste to calorie ratio? This place has a high ratio and worth every calorie you consume. Enjoy!!!

Yelp
My husband & I went for a date night a few weeks ago. The service was good. Our waitress was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. The ambiance is nice - very intimate. Almost too cramped, with each table VERY close to another, but it wasn't to the point I felt uncomfortable. We had several dishes... Bread & fancy butter -$7 Crudo - $17 Onion soup -$15 Fish entree -$32 Lamb entree - $33 Pot de crème- $10 3 cocktails -$14/each We are happy to spend $$ for a delicious meal. It's unfortunate though that after spending $200, feeling like not any single item made us say - wow, we need to come back again for this. The highlights for me were the bread & fancy butter, and the rich flavor of the onion soup broth. My husband loved his cocktail the "joie de vivre", and the pot de crème dessert. I personally didn't love the dessert because it was quite bitter, but my husband loves dark chocolate so he was very happy with it! The crudo was overly briney for me. I love the flavors the dish was made with, but all I could taste were the capers! I felt they overpowered the rest of the dish. The braised lamb was very good- incredibly tender, but the "en crepinette" fat that was used was not cooked down and was actually stringy like a melted cheese. I wish I took a picture of that as it was rather unappetizing. The dish was also very very salty (and I love salt!). The fish entree was cooked nicely and had a subtle lemon sauce. Maybe we chose the wrong dishes. The duck confit & steak frites that others ordered around us looked really great. We were sadly disappointed by our meals.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Finally: a 5 star Raleigh restaurant! This place is great. I went for date night with my husband and was so pleased with the atmosphere, service and food. Baguette with fancy butter: you only get 4 slices of a local Boulted Bread wheat baguette that's room temp. $7 and not worth it. French onion soup: absolutely delicious and thick enough to eat with a fork. Steak frites: the steak is tender and absolutely perfect in a creamy sauce. I had this same dish in NYC a week ago and it wasn't half as good as this! The fries were overly salty though. Duck cassoulet: my husband said this was among his favorite dishes EVER. The sausage was incredible and duck was cooked to perfection. Pricey bill but worth it for a special treat!

Yelp
The food the service and the ambiance were amazing. This is our fifth time going to brunch here. The escargot and quiche one of the best we had.

Yelp
One word. WOW. We have been trying to come for a month now and things keep happening but we made time for it. So should you! This place is AWESOME. It's a French style bistro and you order apps and entrees together and they pace it out for you. We got the bread and butter. This is probably the best butter I've ever had! We also got the crispy duck, that was out of this world. Crispy skin, tender meat with a delicious sauce. My husband for the chicken and I got the steak frites. I am in LOVE with the steak frites. I can't even tell you how good they were. My husbands chicken and beans were also delicious! We ended the meal with creme brûlée and it was fantastic. Lemony and delicious. Our waitress was so sweet and explained all of our questions. The ambiance was also great. I felt like I was in a super upscale bistro. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We reserved a table for eight at the rooftop. It is a more intimate space and fewer tables so much quieter. The food was amazing and the service was fabulous. We will definitely return!

Yelp
EAT ON THE ROOF! Staff are top notch and the food is divine! Best romantic spot in town. Take yer love mate there & I promise, you'll get it in. 100%!

Yelp
Outstanding experience, with a complaint. We ordered the bread and butter, escargot, steak tartare, trout almondine, steak frites, seasonal sorbet, and peach melba. All of the food was delicious. The steak tartare came out deconstructed and wasn't as good as their sister restaurant's version (Crawford and Sons), but it was good. The escargot was good, but not the best escargot I've ever had. And it came with three small pieces of toasted bread. Would have appreciated more (you'll see this becoming a theme). The bread and butter was outstanding (the French salted butter-- just-- incredible), but they gave us FOUR small slices of baguette. Like, to pay $7 for bread and butter and have two tiny pieces of bread each. There wasn't even enough bread for the amount of butter they gave us (and we buttered liberally). I told them not to take away the butter in case any more bread came with our meal. I buttered the toast that came with the escargot because I refused to waste that butter. The trout almondine was delightful and flavorful and light and heavy at the same time. Fish and green beans with almonds-- not exactly a heavy dish, but so rich and fatty from the brown butter. I loved it (my husband just liked it). The steak frites was fine. Steak was cooked perfectly. I'm just not the biggest steak frites person, but my husband really enjoyed it and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Then we got to the desserts. We thought we were being crazy ordering two and I'm so glad that we did. They were TINY. The scoop of sorbet was the size of those baby scoops you can sometimes get at ice cream shops for free for your kid. It was like the size of a palate cleanser portion of sorbet, not a dessert. The peach melba wasn't much better. A tiny scoop of ice cream surrounded by a few slices of peach. THAT WAS IT. For $13! I don't know... this meal was great. The service was great. But the PORTIONS of bread and dessert were comical. So tiny. So... unsatisfying.

Yelp
I only stopped in here for their ice cream sandwich and what a delight it was. Service was great, they were trying to close and still served us. Romantic and quaint. Next time in Raleigh will go back for dinner and hopefully another ice cream sandwich!

Yelp
My husband went to Jolie for an early, weekend dinner on the top patio area. When we made the reservation, we requested the rooftop patio hoping for a nice view but it was tarped around, likely to block out the sun. There were heat lamps which was nice as it was still a bit chilly. We were disappointed by how closely they packed in the tables as we could hear every single word from our neighboring tables and the server's backside would hover over our table when tending to the tables on either side of us. It didn't look much better as far as spacing in the downstairs. I loved my cocktail, 'le jardin', but it was served in an oddly small glass. The steak tartare was a fun dish and would be the only thing that might warrant a visit. The potato leek soup was tasty, but I wished I had gone with the onion soup, which looked more substantial. We were honestly really turned off by how cramped it was and decided to forgo entrees there. I adored the dexor but we won't be returning.

Yelp
I didn't have high expectations. Boy was I wrong!! My friend got the onion soup and king salmon. His eyes rolled back with the soup. The presentation, the taste, the bowl. He was elated! When the server came to get my app, he pulled the bowl closer - refusing to surrender. He also scraped the bottom of his plate of salmon. I'm allergic, but it looked really good. My steak frites was amazing. -1 star because the steak was lukewarm and sitting in some type of mayo alongside some of the most amazing fries I've had. But even lukewarm, it was soooooo good. Seasoning and temp were perfect. I do like mayo with my fries, but I'll ask for it on the side next time. Service was WONDERFUL. Kind, authentic, gracious people. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
If "American Version of a French Bistro" is a category, this is a perfect example of it. Saturday was our second visit, and everything was spot on. * Escargot - not in the traditional pot, bust a little pile with some crusty bread * Frisee salad with lardons and fried egg * Bouilliabaise * Steak Frites - it wasn't hanger steak, probably strip, with a nice bright green sauce * Creme caramel * Cocktails (dirty martini, Negroni) as good as you can expect, plus a nice French cremant rose. About $160 with tax and tip

Yelp
Always excited to have French food, as it's not something I eat in a regular basis. Jolie did not disappoint, and even exceeded expectations. The butternut squash bisque was outstanding as rich and silky, a wonderful blend of squash, citrus and rock shrimp. The moules came de-shelled in a creamy fennel based broth, with enough bread for soaking. The trout was buttery fantastic, and of course frites with aioli for the table. Loved that the menu was simple, featuring about four each of appetizers, soups/salad and main. Possibly one of the best meals I've had since moving to the Triangle.

Yelp
My husband and I went here to celebrate our late Valentine's date. We made sure to make a reservation online so we won't wait for long lines. The decor of the place is very chic and you could tell that the staff takes good care of the place. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we walked in, which was a great sign. The manager greeted us as well. We dined in the main dining room. The tables did seem a little too close to each other but it was doable. We were given menus. There was only 1 page ( front has the food and the back has the drinks) There wasn't that much of a selection but most of the items on the menu looked pretty good. We decided on baguette & homemade butter and mussels for appetizers. We were surprised to see the portion of each appetizer but what really shocked us was the mussels. It's not your typical mussels you would see at a french restaurant. These mussels were already taken out of their shells. Truth be told , there were only 8 muscles in the bowl and it was served with pieces of ham and bread soaked in the bowl. Pretty disappointing. We were looking forward to doing the work. (I didn't get to take a photo of the appetizers but I should've) For the bread and butter , it was okay. It almost feels like this should been been served gratis... nothing special with the bread really. It wasn't even warm. Now on to our entrees.. My husband got the chicken confit with mashed potatoes and mushrooms and I got the trout with almond sauce. I must say, they are amazing! The portions were just right. Though, the prices seemed pretty high for Raleigh. Regardless, the entrees were wonderful! For our dessert, we got the chestnut Miele feiulle. It was pretty good. As for the prices, we still think it was pretty high for Raleigh. But it could be because there's really no competition around. Breakdown below: Bread and butter : $6 (not worth it) Mussels: $14 (not worth it) Chicken Confit: $27 (worth it!) Trout : $29 (worth it) Chestnut dessert: $10 (so-so) Overall, we would go back to this place to try other appetizers and entrees and for the ambiance. Pretty cute spot!!! PS: our server Abbie was very attentive and friendly so enjoyed our meals.

Yelp
I can see why Jolie was such a hot spot! We booked Jolie for the weekend before Valentines Day, and could only find a booking at 8:30pm. I'm glad we waited. Service was attentive and remember that it was our anniversary. Thank you to the staff! Appetizer - we shared the duck cassoulet. The topping was so crispy. The duck may not have been the star of the dish (I wish there was a little more), but the flavors of all the ingredients blended together so well - sausage, apple, kale, walnut crust - that I didn't really mind in the end. The topping was so crispy. Really feels like a home-y dish from the south of France. Mains - vegetables en croute, trout amandine. Both were phenomenal. The vegetables en croute came in a big pot with a brioche topping and was a healthy serving. It like a very refined chicken pot pie, except with more root vegetables and an incredible brioche crust. Breaking into the brioche crust is so fun. Trout amandine - the portion size was definitely a North Carolina portion size, but the dish was plated beautifully, and tasted even better. Comes with brown rice as the starch, which I typically find a boring grain, but didn't even have a second thought about it when I was digging in. Dessert - chocolate madeleins. The texture is not the cakey texture you would typically expect from a madelein. The madeleins are a little dryer, and the dark chocolate is very rich. However, the dryness pairs so well with the citrus sauce it comes with. No regrets about getting this dessert!

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here when this spot first opened! The atmosphere is cute and cafe like vibes. The restaurant is a tight squeeze when moving around, but it's all part of the charm of giving the Paris feel. For me the stars of the menu are the appetizers - honestly I would come back just to eat all of them. We had the steak tartare and the escargots, follow by the French onion soup, and then the entrees (steak frites, gnocchi, and trout). While everything was delicious, towards the end of the meal, everything felt a bit salty (which could be fine for some). Would definitely recommend this spot!

Yelp
Bottom line: My recent visit to Jolie was a five star experience. From the open kitchen/bistro atmosphere, wonderful service, and amazing delicious food selections...I say if you haven't been to Jolie yet, you should give it a try. I am glad I did, I enjoyed my meal and want to visit again! The Deets: While in the Peace Street area of DTR, I decided to check if there was availability at Jolie for an early dinner. Their website showed an availability at the bar so I nabbed the reservation to go and try Jolie out in the next hour. I loved when I found that they had an open kitchen there at the bar, so I could see them in action preparing the meals. When I stepped inside, it definitely had a bistro feel with a footprint that reminds me of an NYC eatery. My server/bartender Greg greeted me and took care of my drink order (no prosecco available but a great brut sparkling wine) and offered me the menu. Their menu has appetizers, soups/salads, and a few entree selections (or "plats prinicpaux") carefully curated...even though there were four entrees at this time, they collectively offered something for about every taste. My eyes then drifted to the appetizers/starters and I gravitated to their steak tartare entry served with sour cream chips so I started with this one. It was absolutely wonderful...in presentation and in taste (pic taken and posted here). Greg suggested I just take all the elements and combine them together for the best result and he was absolutely correct. Every bite was perfect. For my entree, I went with their Chicken Fricassée entry, with the menu stating including "mushrooms, chard, pommes purée." When it arrived, again the presentation was awesome (snapped another pic and posted here). The taste...tremendous, in fact just thinking about it makes me taste it all over again in my head with the creamy sauce around the chicken covered with the chard greens and the potatoes placed in a circle around it. It was a perfect blending of flavors and I really would like to enjoy that dish again sometime soon! Unfortunately I had no room for dessert this trip but I plan to remedy that next visit. Greg was informative, attentive, positive, pleasant and on the spot with service at the bar for both food and drink orders, thumbs up! In summary, Jolie really made a huge impression on me...a five star, wonderful impression! I am really wanting to go back again and knowing how busy they normally are, I will have to keep my eye out for the next opportunity.

Yelp
We went here for an early Valentine's dinner and it was so perfect for just that! Adorable, small interior that feels like a French bistro. Make a reservation in advance if you want to eat here on the weekend, it's worth it!! The menu is small but everything we had was so delicious- here's what we got: Aperol Spritz- This wasn't on the menu but I asked if they made them because they're my fave drink and they said of course!! It was so good, perfect bitter to sweet ratio. Bread and butter- We wished the bread was warm but the butter was so amazing with fresh herbs and honey it made up for it. French Onion Soup- Okay I thought that I didn't like French onion soup but it turns out I LOVE it if done correctly!!!! This soup was so amazing, the croutons weren't too soggy at all and there wasn't an overwhelming amount of onions - just an amazing broth flavor and lots of cheese!!! This is a must if you eat at Jolie. Steak Frites- This is what Michael had but I tried it and it was amazing. Reeeeeallly crispy and delicious fries. Vegetables En Croute- Just look at the photo!!! SO cute and so fun to eat. Delicious puff pastry with root vegetables in a truffle Bechemel and it was the perfect size. Definitely a perfect date night or somewhere to eat just for fun!!

Yelp
Jolie was probably the most anticipated restaurant opening of 2019. Did it live up to the hype? I thought so! Seriously though, everything was freaking delicious. We sat upstairs on their rooftop patio which is beautiful. You can tell thought went into every planter and flower making the ambiance something you don't usually find in Raleigh. We started off with their savory cheese pastry and ricotta quenelles. I thought both were flavorful and different. The quenelles is not something you see around here. Like a fluffy cloud of seasoned ricotta. The star of the show though were really the entrees. The steak frites was one of the best I've ever had. The fries were seasoned perfectly. the steak melted in your mouth, and I could have drank the gravy on the plate with a straw. The trout almondine was also amazing. The brown butter sauce was so delicious and the trout was cooked perfectly. Order these dishes, you will not be dissapointed! Parking can be a bit tricky in this area since a lot of it is permit only after 4pm. Just be sure to read the signs since I saw someone getting a parking ticket on Thursday evening. Don't think the city isn't checking because they are!

Yelp
Although Jolie Restaurant has an amazing outdoor seating on the rooftop, I much prefer sitting at the bar where you can watch the chefs make magic. My favorite is the steak frites.

Yelp
Loved this place! Everything we had was amazing! Service was outstanding! Appetizers we had were the fancy butter, escargot, and butternut squash soup... delicious! For our main courses we had the roasted chicken, gnocchi and trout. Juiciest chicken I've ever had. Lastly, we had a pumpkin spice crème brûlée and chocolate tarte. Definitely recommend and we will be going back again!

Yelp
This time, I'm gonna go a full 5 stars. Enjoyed the tartare once again, and found the foie gras to be a divine, rich treat. Their take on Escargot was non-traditional, but very enjoyable. Trout almondine was cooked perfectly with a tasty but not overwhelming sauce. The chocolate tart desert was rich and very flavorful. Service was great as is the wine selection. I also like the French press coffee at the end, its a nice touch.

Yelp
Such an adorable French restaurant in historic part of Raleigh. We ate outside and the staff was so attentive and sweet. The gnocchi and steak frites were delicious but the French onion soup could be a meal Al on its own! Don't skip the fresh baked bread and her butter, it was the best butter I've ever had. We will be back!

Yelp
This place was good! The steak was very flavorful-The meal was great. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is because the chips we got with the beef tartare were very stale. I wish they would just serve it with bread. The ice cream is to die for. It is amazing.
