New England’s Best Teahouses | Eater Boston

"Steps away from Notch Brewing’s session beer-focused taproom in Salem, Massachusetts, get a different kind of buzz at Jolie Tea Company’s original Derby Street location. Settle onto a plush teal bench seat inside for a flight of teas beautifully paired with a trio of macarons. The chic shop also serves high tea by reservation and cocktail-inspired iced teas like the green fairy — a vibrant green tea akin to absinthe with subtle notes of anise — in coupe glasses alongside a full carafe. With 300 teas and dozens of treats from which to choose, Jolie is a welcome respite after touring Salem’s top attractions like the nearby House of Seven Gables. Find a second location of the charming teahouse in Beverly, Massachusetts." - Stasia Brewczynski

I took my sister to Jolie for high tea to celebrate her birthday and it was absolutely perfect! We chose the $48 per person Catherine High Tea and loved every moment. The strawberry mocktail to start was a refreshing treat, and the tea menu was impressively extensive, offering so many unique options to explore. The food was delightful, but the raspberry macaron was a standout—I wish I had taken a few more to go! Afterward, we enjoyed selecting loose leaf tea at the counter, getting to smell and discuss different varieties before bringing some home with us! High tea is a cherished tradition in our family and while we often visit spots in Boston, Jolie in Salem was so wonderful—we'll definitely be returning!

From their small place next to the Hawthorne Hotel to their latest place on Derby, I have always loved the atmosphere that this tea shoppe creates. Enough so that it has genuinely inspired parts of my next book. Over the years, I have tried various teas from their menu and have never tasted a bad one, nor a bad treat from their pastry case. The hibiscus blend will always have a special place in my heart though! Thank you for all the wonderful blends, I will do my best to taste through as many as I can! ♥️

Google
SO FREAKING CUTE! This place is out of book! It’s expertly decorated and the entire atmosphere is whimsical, cute and fun. Don’t worry if you don’t know a lot about tea (I do not) as their staff will guide you through the selection process. The tea list is FULL of flavors, some that you can purchase as loose leaf, and no matter your preference, there is a tea for you. We sampled a mango passion and a rose hip hibiscus and both were delectable. I sampled some of the chocolate chip cookies and they were dense and delicious. The only issue we experienced was the staff forgot our ticket and we say there waiting for about a half hour. Thankfully a server noticed and took care of everything, but mistakes happen and we loved every second of the experience. We will DEFINITELY be back!

Google
We came here years ago and really enjoyed it, but this time we had a terrible high tea experience. Service was awful - there were lots of staff, but all were chatting to each other and ignoring customers. Getting milk for the tea, the next course, etc required repeatedly going up to ask. Tea was served in plain coffee mugs, which in addition to the poor service, made it not feel special at all. Food and tea was okay but way overpriced for the experience. Would not recommend.

Google
They have so many varieties of teas and all of the ones I have tried are so good. Their pastries are also so worth it. It does get packed and it may be hard to find a table. I also think they could improve the ambiance.

Honestly, I have been a customer for years because I love their tea and selection of dessert items. However, my dog and I were asked to leave the public sidewalk after we ordered tea and dessert. I was outside for maybe ten minutes to wait for my tea and then get my bearings before leaving. I am really upset with how “the owner” treated someone who is at the shop at least twice a month and was actively purchasing product at the time of being outside. So I guess, if you don’t care about customer service and basic human decency, the shop has a great tea selection.

As a tea enthusiast and someone who loves afternoon tea, this is one of my favorite places by far. Despite us being late for our reservation, they were very kind and accommodating to us. Our server was very sweet and helpful, giving us recommendations for tea based on our preferred flavor profiles. The store itself has SO MANY tea varieties, and while the tea menu for the high tea reservation was limited, it was still a huge selection with an emphasis on black teas. The food and pastries were also very yummy and not too heavy. The sandwiches were very bite-sized and the meal as a whole was a light meal that's focused heavily on desserts. If you're not a desserts/sweets person or you're looking for a meal more substantial and filling, then maybe do the Lunch instead. UPDATE: I have visited again recently and it’s still just as amazing. Staff are so nice and helpful and this time I tried the tea flight which was delicious! So many options to choose from.

Google
Absolutely lovely little tea place! The decor is beautiful, it has a wonderful atmosphere, the staff were friendly and had great recommendations. They have a wide variety of available teas, and delicious little platters of tea sandwiches and desserts. We ordered a tea flight with three teas, and loved their Mango White, La Belle Rose, and Antoinette teas. Will definitely be coming back here!

Yelp
Edited to reply to owner: Hi Amy, thanks for the speedy reply. I do appreciate that we were able to be accommodated and rescheduled due to illness, so thank you for that. I do apologize if my criticism was seen as an attack on your personal preferences for high tea, it wasn't supposed to be. I just wanted to say, when we went it was very busy and I'm assuming fully booked, so we should not have to ask for basic necessities like silverware or plates. As it was, I asked for the tea menu again because I was going to order another pot of tea, but no one ever came back and we were just brought the bill. Again, I would encourage others to still visit your establishment, I was just trying to point out things that could be improved upon for the future. Would have liked to give 3.5 stars if I could. To start off, I love a tea house and have been to many... so I was looking for a kind of authentic tea house experience. My husband and I went on Valentine's Day for the luncheon high tea, and it overall was a good experience. I do just have a few nitpicky things to comment on and as an avid tea house goer I do hope Jolie takes it as constructive criticism because I did enjoy my time. First, the cups......... why a mug?? It's a cute, dainty mug.. but it's a mug. When I do high tea, I expect an actual tea cup and saucer with a little teaspoon. Next, they could also really up the ante by having cloth napkins instead of paper for the high tea. There also are no special little spoons for your cream/ sugar. Up the ante even more? Little sugar cubes with tongs instead of just a bowl of regular sugar. These are all just little details that make high tea even more special... not necessary, but just nice. On a good note. Jolie is adorable inside and does have a huge tea menu, which is great, but when we were leaving we saw a specials board with some special teas for Valentine's Day which we would have liked to try, had they been offered to us. The teas we did try were good. For lunch my husband got the quiche, and I got the tartine. The tartine was really good - good flavors and tasted fresh. My husband's quiche was good, but a little loose/ watery. The issue with the meal was it came with a HUGE pile of greens.... almost the entire plate, and it was just dry/ undressed. What a waste.... those are expensive! Hard to eat so much undressed arugula. It'd be great if they gave a smaller but dressed pile of greens. Next for the mini tier of desserts... overall, okay. There was a glazed scone that was just okay, good flavor but very crumbly and the outer layer is kind of hard to break into. The bigger issue here was our silverware was taken with our lunch plates, so we were given scones and jam with no knife or anything to spread it with. I had to use the opposite end of my spoon from lunch to spread the jam. Also, no plates... so it was just crumbling all over the table. Give new cute tiny plates and knives! There was some little chocolate sponge heart that had okay flavor but was very dry. The best part of probably the whole day was the macaron.... so good that I ordered some to go. I got the classic almond and it was delish! 10/10, no notes. Overall, I did enjoy my high tea experience and I would go again. The service was fast and friendly, the food and tea were good, and the macarons excellent. I do hope Jolie sees this review as a genuine attempt to improve their already great product :)

Yelp
The location is very pretty and photogenic. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The service was prompt. The sandwiches and macarons were delicious. The Madelines and scones were a tad dry. I tried to butter them up but they started to crumble so I left it alone. Lastly, I don't understand Why we were given coffee mugs instead of tea cups.

Yelp
Reservation are recommended for the best seating and dessert options. I came here with a group of friends and had one of the best times in Salem. The desserts were delicious and the tease were outstanding. The customer service was great and it was a picture perfect location. I would highly recommend it.

Yelp
This is a lovely tea shop centrally located on Derby St. Myself, my daughter, and my Bestie came in today for high tea. It was delightful! Our server came out and gave us all a complimentary glass of iced tea while we looked over their impressive selection of teas. We each ordered a different flavor and got our own little pots full of delicious tea. The price fixe menu of sandwiches, scones, and sweets was perfect. Everything was prepared with care and tasted as yummy as they looked pretty. The atmosphere of the dining room was so cheerful and relaxing as well. We were allowed to take our time and slowly savor the tea and food at our own pace. It was a great experience that I hope to repeat some day soon.

Yelp
Super cute tea shop in Salem! If you are planning for Afternoon Tea or their Prix Fix lunch, definitely make reservations! The place is small, but has a good amount of tables. I like that Jolie Tea Company has other options like ala carte and tea with macaroon samplers if you don't want to do the whole high tea experience but still get the experience. However, I wish there were options for reservations for these options. I came here a few weekends ago and was able to get a table for 3 after a short wait. We opted for the ala carte option since we just wanted a light snack and by the time the table was clear, we had a chance to look over the menu and decide on what we wanted. There is a large menu of teas for dining in and you can also buy loose leaf teas to go. My friends and I shared 2 pots of tea and got some macaroons, chocolate ginger scone and lemon scone. We asked for the chocolate ginger scone to be heated and it was really good warmed up with slightly melted chocolate and bites of candied ginger. The macaroons were pretty good too! All of the macaroons' flavors were strong and distinct which I liked.

Yelp
The perfect pick me up! Jolie's Tea Company is fantastic! It's beautiful inside with an incredible list of teas to choose from and helpful staff. I went with my typical hot Chai with a lemon scone. The chai was a bit spicer than I typically enjoy, but nonetheless, tasty!

Yelp
We had the chance to come to the Beverly location. The place is definitely a vibe. Every cutesy on the outside. I the tea selection was good, I had the darjeeling in a large pot. The mug was different from my usual tea cup. The food. The cucumber sandwich was dry and had radish and microgreens (which I felt was unnecessary) The other sandwiches felt a bit stale The scone was covered in an odd lemon icing. The madeline was very sweet with the 1cm thick chocolate coating. You must order clotted cream separately, felt a bit light. We took the macarons home, but tastes good even days later. Servers were pretty hands off once we started our tray.

Yelp
Very nice place in Salem to enjoy high tea. The menu is pretty affordable and it's perfect for small stomachs. Their menu is simple but good. They also have tons of options (vegan, gluten free, etc) and will easily adapt to the different diets of your party. The service was good and they were friendly. The high tea starts with a iced tea served in a fancy champagne cup. It was floral and not too sweet. The tea menu offers a large choice of teas and infusions, difficult to not find happiness ! The high tea is composed of finger sandwiches, macarons, a scone and a pastry. It is not the biggest high tea I have ever done but it was perfect for our stomach I recommend it, it's a great stop in Salem

Yelp
Met a friend here for lunch on our recent trip to Salem, and I had been meaning to give it a try for years. So glad we finally did! Absolutely adorable set up, staff was really friendly and helpful when choosing what to order. Really cute decorations, although seating is a bit tight, just a heads up. They had a really great selection of teas with plenty to choose from. We were also glad to see they had sandwiches other than the tiny ones you get with tea service. They also had vegan and gluten free options if that's your jam. Really great all around; I would definitely visit again!

Yelp
The decor of this space is very aesthetically appealing. There are pops of color and paintings everywhere. I definitely appreciate art, so enjoyed looking at the different paintings. My friends and I reserved the salon room for high tea which was a private space off to the corner. It was nicely decorated and perfect for a group of six. The experience of afternoon tea was nice, although a bit confusing. I feel our server could have explained to us how the menu works or given us some tea recommendations as there were so many options for tea and she could have suggested which ones to try. She only came in twice to ask our orders for tea and then again to deliver the pastries and snacks that come with the tea. I think she could have checked in just to see how we were doing, so that'd be my one feedback for service. I thought the presentation of the sandwiches and pastries on the platter was very nice, and everything tasted good. I especially liked the cucumber sandwich which was made with chives and radish as well as the smoked salmon sandwich. The lemon and raspberry scone was also very tasty. I'd recommend making a reservation because they seem to be very busy on the weekend or just booking the private room to have a little space from others.

Yelp
I reserved a high tea event with my party of 8 as my cousin was getting married that weekend, and it was a wonderful experience! Jolie Tea Company was INCREDIBLE as accommodating my friends dietary restrictions- we had gluten free, one with a severe nut allergy, another with no pork or beef, and those individuals were able to get their own treats on a separate pastry tower- which should honestly be a standard for restaurants, and we were so so grateful to have had this beautiful tea shop go above and beyond!

Yelp
Tucked away in Salem, MA is one of the great teahouses of New England. While it may not be as over-the-top as some others in Boston proper, Jolie is not to be missed OR dismissed an an inferior tea service (British proper, that is). The tea selection is on par if not more extensive than the more expensive and often lauded teahouses of Boston. Instead, this setting feels more intimate and approachable than the other services we've done around Boston. There are plenty of opinions as well as advice should you become overwhelmed in the choices that are presented for you during the initial selections of the service. While the overall format is familiar (pretty standard through the British-style service), the offerings are commensurate with the higher priced services in the area. You have the 3-tier tower of small bites (finger sandwiches, a sweet+savory pastry, and a dessert tier) and the tea service that allows you to attempt to pair the best tea with what you will be eating. Despite the humble origins and space that Jolie will host you in, it is definitely worth the trip as well as the "investment" you will make in this culinary journey and experience (especially if this is your first tea service!). It may be in my top 2 or 3 services that we've had in New England since we relocated in 2018. So, what is the TL;DR of this review? It's a bit outside the proper Boston area of tea services but that doesn't mean it is inferior in ANY way. It is more affordable, approachable, and on the same level of the more "well-known" tea services. It can be considered a "gateway experience" into the world of tea service because it's not as over-the-top or as "enforced" as the others we've been to; this is a come-as-you-are experience and they will walk you through the history of the service, how they preserve the history of the tea service, and obviously what to expect over the next 1.5-3 hours (depending on how you choose to approach it). Overall conclusion: 5/5 - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Enter with an open mind if it's your first time and allow the professionals there to walk you through the experience. If you have experience, walk the walk, talk the talk, and enjoy a budget-friendly tea service in New England.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced for what you get. We took a rather large group here for a fun high tea. Our tea was served in mugs and not teacups. For the $36 per person the servings of food were minimal and lackluster. We all left rather disappointed. I will not be back. But will head to Wenham Tea house instead.

Yelp
Y'all this is a tourist / influencer trap. Looks pretty on camera but absolutely no substance. We ordered the high tea and it was rough from start to finish. Tea was barely steeped, to the point where it was hard to distinguish between the two flavors we got. The iced tea was mostly ice, not much tea. The macarons were very gummy and make your teeth hurt sweet. The scones weren't too bad but the bake was off. The bread on the cucumber sandwiches was stale, noticeably so. The ham in the ham and brie sandwiches looked like it was from a Lunchable, but unfortunately didn't have that comforting but processed flavor, instead it tasted like fish. The bake on the salmon gougere was also strange, similarly gummy to some of the other options. The staff were consistently indifferent at best, poor at their jobs otherwise (spilling tea all over the table and not acknowledging it, rude when we ordered and thanking them as we left, etc.) All in all, it was $80+ for a laughable experience, PLEASE do not be fooled by some of these rave reviews, save your money, go somewhere else!

Yelp
What a FABULOUS tearoom! So many tea choices, teas to go, teas to sit, High tea, macarons, tea samplings and a nice gift shop area. Lovely couches to relax or grab a table.

Yelp
The woman in the counter was very nice but we were left at a table with no waiter or any explanation on how it worked. We finally asked and we ordered at the counter. Our tea was amazing but we waited for another 20 minutes and our food never came out. After my mom went up to the counter again they brought out our food. They provided no plates, napkins or spoons for the sugar. Again the tea was very good but overall we were disappointed in the experience.

Yelp
I can't say enough fabulous things about the beautiful afternoon tea we had here. Visiting Downtown Salem in the fall is a risky move for anyone in terms of crowds. But this gorgeous tea room somehow stays under the radar (in a good way). While just a block or two away Salem may be bustling with borderline obnoxious crowds, this is a lovely safe haven and proper tea room tucked away from the madness! Book your reservation online beforehand! It is quite simple and required a small deposit. Walk-ins must be near impossible in the fall as we watched many well-intended people get turned away. The interior is colorful, warm and inviting with fantastic floral wallpapers and accents, so it's definitely a bummer if you don't have a reservation and can't be seated. The minute you walk in...your spirits immediately rise. The high tea menu was lovely, with a fantastic assortment of tea sandwiches, macarons and scones. This was easily one of the best tea houses I've ever been in, ever. The vibes are just as immaculate as the tea selection, tasty macarons, and friendly staff. There's also a bakery counter which you can visit regardless of a high tea reservation. If we didn't have existing plans, I could have easily ordered a huge box of things to-go. Jolie Team Company is a very special place and I can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
Beautiful tea shop in downtown Salem. We did high tea. The food was delicious and filling. Lots of great tea and seasonal options.

Yelp
So beautiful ! So delicious . Loved the scones. Crème brûlée iced tea was amazing ! I had the oolong and I keep dreaming of it !!!

Yelp
Cute place! Soooo many tea options. We came in for high tea around 3pm on Saturday. We made reservations so we were seated immediately, but it seemed like there was no waiting for walk-ins. I'm sure they were much busier earlier in the day. It was really nice that we got a complementary iced tea immediately, the creme brulee flavor was surprisingly good! I loved the mix of sweet and savory items on the set menu. The lemon scones were the delicious, the salmon gougere didn't taste the freshest (but didn't cause any upset stomachs!), and the macarons were hit or miss texture-wise. It was a great experience overall! Our server was lovely, and we had a nice time. I highly recommend the "Remembering Paris" tea

Yelp
Actually the cutest place I've been and can't wait to come back They have online reservations and a virtual tour! This place is perfect for introverts. Would be amazing spot for small gatherings for any occasion! I went for high tea with a friend. I picked pixie dust tea (which was an amazing choice). They offered honey, sugar and cream if you wanted it. The sandwiches and desserts were amazing! Lemon scone was my fav. 10/10! I can't wait to bring more out-of-town friends here and def want to celebrate my bday here!
google avatar

Liz J.

Yelp
If you like tea, this place is amazing. I've never had the high tea experience before - it started with iced tea, then we were each able to choose a pot of tea, and had a platter to share of 3 finger sandwiches (smoked salmon, cucumber, and brie) and 3 desserts (2 macaroons, a scone, and a madeline) for $32 each. You do need to make a reservation in advance and put a deposit down to hold your spot since they only have a few tables. The staff was very polite and helpful. They have a wide variety of teas to purchase and you can grab and go.
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
11/2021 We were in Salem so we had to check out this super cute tea shop. They sell tons of varieties of macaroons. You are able to reserve a spot to have tea and enjoy a few hours out. I'll be back.

Yelp
Very cute tea shop in Salem. I came here for me bday and was not disappointed. The vibes are super cute and interior is very pretty and flows well. There is an overall very feminine theme with flowers and pinks and teals. We went with the afternoon tea service which you need to book in advance. There was a huge range of teas to choose from - and they had many teas that aren't common in other places as well. The tea was amazing (ordered Silver Needle Tea which was one of their premium options) and the food was also good. The finger sandwiches were as expected. The madeleines were delicious and my favorite part of the meal. The macaroons were tea flavored and different. We loved everything. If I'm in the area would definitely stop by again!

Yelp
Tea with The Madre! Whenever my mom & I visit we try a new tea house. This visit was Jolie Tea Company. They have on street parking and we got a space right in front. The decor was charming! Beautiful bright colors and patterns. It has a really soothing vibe. We made a reservation and our table was marked reserved. The plates & cups were beautiful! The tea here is fantastic! They have a HUGE selection of loose teas to choose from and you can buy them to go. They serve iced tea to start, which I hadn't experienced before. It was delicious! The food is delicious, but definitely on the small side. I don't want to leave tea stuffed, so this is typically fine with me. But the brie & ham sammie was literally one bite. Also, we opted out of the smoked salmon gougere due to an allergy, and they replaced it with an extra ham & brie bite. Why not one of the vegetarian or vegan options instead of a duplicate? Cucumber sammie was my fave! SO tasty! The ham & brie with strawberry jam & dijon was also very good, but the chunky construction made it hard eat without it sliding apart. I heard from a neighboring table that the salmon gougere was also very good. They served a cup of fruit, that was nice and fresh, but seemed like it needed cream of some sort. The Madeline was nice, the scone was nice... but... no clotted cream?? Is it even tea if you don't have clotted cream for your scone?? We each got one Earl Gray and one Raspberry macaron. Both very flavorful and the Earl Gray was so unique! They have many more flavors of macarons you can buy. I'm not a fan of macarons in general, but these were definitely tasty. Would we return for high tea? Probably not. It was nice, but the lack of clotted cream was definitely a bummer, as was the duplicated ham & brie bite. I would stop in to buy loose tea or macarons (as a gift for someone else). If you're in the area it's definitely a nice place for tea!

May Ann M.

Yelp
Seriously underwhelming. Where to begin? Menu looks great, but upon closer examination the way they presented their meal options were just plain confusing. Even the staff was unsure. The food was just ok. I had their tea sandwiches & lemon scone. The scones were tiny & had this hard icing glaze. Clotted cream was available, but you had to request it. Seriously. The hot tea didn't have enough flavor, but their iced tea was good. Service was poor. The restaurant wasn't abnormally busy and our meal came in different courses. After the first course, we had to ASK where the second course was AND ask for a knife to spread the jam & cream on the scone. If they checked on us, this wouldn't have been a big deal, but they literally LEFT us. And if they didn't have enough people to help, I would understand, but they had MULTIPLE people behind the counter doing nothing. This is what not returning looks like.

Yelp
This place is stunning. They managed to capture all of the elegance & beauty of a traditional tea room but with the warmth and casual nature of a cozy cafe. I wandered in here on a whim and am so glad I did. Everyone I encountered was kind and super nice. The tea list is EXTENSIVE. I was overwhelmed so ended up getting the Parisian inspired tea and macaron flight (pictured) and it was only $14! The tea was steeped to perfection and the macarons were perfectly sweet I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Fantastic high tea experience! The starting complimentary tea (I wish I remembered what it was called) was honestly my favorite. The strawberry white tea was great. Overall I felt that the teas could've been a little stronger. The finger food was delicious! The smoked salmon sandwich was the best. We sat in the salon room and ambiance was lovely.

Yelp
If you like tea, then this is the place for you! So many great options to choose from, whether you're looking for tea to go or want to take your time and savor the tea. Every time I visit, Salem, this is a must stop spot. During my first visit, I enjoyed the tea so much that I ended up doing their annual tea subscription for a year, which I looked forward to getting. It's been a while since then, so I am not sure if they are still doing this but I loved being able to try a wide variety of their teas throughout the year. During my last visit, I stocked up, probably too much on tea, with my favorites blends - Alice & Antoinette. Next time I am in the area, I hope to enjoy their high tea experience.

Yelp
Afternoon tea was a respite! We were in great company as we sat under the framed collage of vintage celebrities. Our hostess Lucy greeted us with a glass of iced vanilla Rooibus, which smelled & tasted heavenly. We were provided with an extensive menu to select our individual pot of hot tea from, but decided to enjoy more of the iced tea instead, which quenched our thirst on this particularly hot day. At first glance the food appeared as dainty morsels of art, but every bite tasted devine! The patterns & colors of their China and blue banquette would be a ray of sunshine even on the gloomiest of days. Jolie's credit card system doesn't allow for tips, so please bring cash or request the personal Venmo account of your server to ensure they're recognized for their hospitality.

Yelp
I have been to many high teas in Boston and the surrounding area and can't recommend Jolie enough. This is a very cute tea house with a chick feminine vibe. Your dollar stretches much farther here than in the city and the service is just as good as if you were at a fancy hotel. They give you a complementary glass of iced tea when you sit down and then you get to pick your own pot of tea and enjoy scones, sandwiches and desserts. Everything was delicious and the ambiance is delightful as well. They even sell loose leaf tea here, so be sure to buy some to take home with you. Note: Unlike other high teas I have been to, Jolie only provides two tiers of sandwiches/sweets, not three. If you want more food, order their lunch menu which is more substantial.

Yelp
Great service, the people were nice, I loved the aesthetic, super cute, elegant, and floral. I went for the afternoon tea, food was great the ham and Brie was my personal favorite. Overall everything was great I would definitely recommend going here.

Yelp
This was an enjoyable morning in Salem. Wish they had small containers of tea to smell, like I've experienced at other places. The food was good and the ambiance was excellent. Will certainly return in the future. They did offer a fruit cup in lieu of any item you couldn't eat - which replaced the salmon for me.

Yelp
Delightful place. I really enjoyed being here and got a pot of smoky Lapsang tea which was delicious and a couple of tea sandwiches which were also delicious, as was the macaron! I definitely want to go back and try a lunch item. You can feel comfortable ordering just tea or something else. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Tea and food were fine. I think the complaints about poor service reflect the fact that customers can't tip the waitstaff on a card. Most people don't carry cash and prob aren't inclined to hit an ATM and return to the restaurant. Not a great business model for customers or staff. I won't be back.

Yelp
I had taken my sister here for her 30th birthday and it was simply incredible. The tea selection is insanely large, the pastries and finger sandwiches were perfect and I've never had such an amazing scone before. The staff are so friendly and attentive. It is on the smaller scale, however, it is beautifully decorated.

Yelp
The girl steeped my tea for less than 2 minutes and charged me over 10$ for two flavorless waters, genuinely was so frustrated.

Yelp
My husband and I had high tea here together for our anniversary and it was such a delightful experience that I highly recommend everyone try at least once in their life. The food is light, fresh, and refreshing. Every cup of tea is beautifully steeped and lovingly crafted. The staff is knowledgeable if you need help deciding on which tea will pair best with your tastes and meal. The inside is an elegant, bright, airy haven that makes you feel like you've been brought across the pond. We loved the time we spent here, it was one of the highlights of our visit to Salem.

Yelp
Such a cute experience. I did high tea and really enjoyed the food especially the scone. They do ask if you have any allergies or food restrictions which I appreciated. The list was amazing and they provided a complimentary iced tea beverage which was delicious. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
My boyfriend booked the afternoon tea set for 2 for a Saturday afternoon. When we got there, there was only 1 other party besides us, and most people were just coming in and out to buy their loose leaf tea. All their teas were very fragrant, and I recommend trying the "strawberry white" flavor. I also love their macarons, which I think they order them from a company in New York, because I have seen this packaging and logo somewhere else. They might bake some of the other pastries on their own, but they weren't anything special. The tea set was basically those pastries, 1 macaron, and tea, so I don't think I will try it again. We did come back a few weeks later to pick up more loose leaf tea, blooming tea, and macarons though, which I recommend coming here for.

Yelp
What a disappointment! How do you have a tea company, and not serve tea for high tea in a tea cup and saucer? (Served us in coffee mugs)! We made reservations for a party of 4, paid 1/2 in advance. When showing up as only a party of 3, we were continuously reminded of the inconvenience numerous times throughout our experience (also at check out). Paying for a party of 4 was never an issue for us. However serving a party of 3 was for our waitress and the other staff of 6 that was working this day. Told to look up menu online, dietary restrictions menu is not available at store location. We were given sugar, no sugar spoon to serve with. When asked for napkins, they returned with brown paper napkins (as if at a Burger King). Once we were served our towers, we never saw the waitress again until going to the register to cash out. The staff was to busy talking amongst themselves & sipping their ice coffees from local coffee shops. Instead of attending to our party and the one other table that was there at the time. We were sat next to each other which made it easy to converse about the weird, horrible, awkward feeling experience between both parties. When getting to the register one staff member walked away, while our waitress said "you didn't pay your bill!"..... when asking for a receipt, the printer was broken. The last question I asked before leaving was the waitress' name (typically it's given at the beginning, when a party is welcomed). It's surprising that there would be a second location opening in Beverly when clearly the Salem location is barely hanging on. Don't be fooled online or by their website... Far from a high tea experience.

Yelp
This place is super cute for high tea! Perfect for a date. Cute ambiance, food is good and huge selection of tea. Not to mention, decently priced. Should definitely try

Yelp
Great place and highly recommend! Small and cozy place and not too much of a crowd. The vibe of the tea house was quaint and welcoming. We did the private room, which was very spacious and was a cool experience in general. After we were seated, the tea menu was quite large and diverse. The food was also very good, we especially enjoyed the cucumber and salmon sandwiches as well as the Madeline's. No one from our party liked the flavors they gave us for the macarons - earl grey and another one. But in general, I highly recommend this spot, we all really enjoyed ourselves!

Yelp
Are you kidding me? If you like your tea you have to swing through here on a trip to Salem. They have all of everything. Even teas you didn't think you needed.

Yelp
we hosted my sister's bridal shower here. I booked months in advance for a big party and was originally told that we would should book the later sitting because they would let us linger for a bit since we had a big party. The decor and aestethics were beautiful for the occasion. The food and tea were good enough. The service was incredibly lackluster. The staff were rude and unwelcoming, seemed annoyed to have us there. Then the staff announced to the whole party that we needed to leave in 10 minutes (even earlier than the actually seating time was supposed to be up). I put a lot of effort into making the occasion special for my sister and it was sad to have the staff sour the experience.

Yelp
I've been dropping into their new location since reopening in the pandemic and loved every iced tea I've grabbed and go. Now that we can dine inside, we tried out the High Tea and I was impressed! Yummy bites, iced tea, and a hot pot of your choosing. The Lavender Macarons were not my favorite of theirs that I have tried but the Earl Grey ones were lovely. If you choose your own treats to take with you on your way out, I recommend the Madelines dipped in chocolate or the birthday cake macaron. Swing on by when you get a chance! Every person that has served me, and the owner I've had a chance to chat with briefly, are all delightful.

Yelp
Jolie Tea Company was everything I had hoped it'd be when planning for our trip to Salem. The staff were delightful, the food was delicious, and there is a tea selection for anyone who might be joining you. I'm glad that they deliver because I will definitely be needing a resupply of the vanilla rooibos.

Yelp
Cute shop. Fun & eclectic decor. Quality loose leaf tea. The only negative is counter service ordering and paying. Four employees at counter but only one helping another customer. When we asked for our items to purchase, they replied to move down to stay out of the way of the one employee helping someone else.
