The 18 Best Restaurants In Berlin 2024

"After spending enough time staring at statues on Museum Island to work up a big appetite, settle in for a meal at Jolly, a Chinese restaurant that’s way better than all the mediocre tourist traps nearby. The Peking duck, available as a whole bird or smaller appetizer, is a highlight, and you can never go wrong with some dumplings from their dim sim menu. There’s plenty of seating inside, but make a reservation if you want a table on a weekend evening. " - cindy brzostowski, olivia ladanyi

Jolly Review - Mitte - Berlin - The Infatuation

"After spending a day ambling around 6000 years’ worth of antiquities on Museum Island, settle in for a meal at Jolly, a Chinese restaurant that’s way better than all the mediocre tourist traps in the area. The Peking duck, available as a whole bird or smaller appetizer, is a highlight, and you can never go wrong with dim sum like plump ha gau and succulent sieuw mai. There’s ample seating inside, but make a reservation if you want to dine here on a weekend evening. " - Cindy Brzostowski

Google
Great food, good mix of more Chinese dishes and also those more accustomed to German customers, fast and friendly service, extremely reasonably priced lunch - and it's great to see that they seem to do the spring rolls in house. There's a reason former chancellor Merkel and Ai Weiwei like to eat here!

Google
We were really impressed with the quality of the food, portions are very generous and the service was excellent. Wish we had one like this in Belgium!

Mateusz Nowak

Google
The dish was tasty, well seasoned and served relatively quickly. The service was nice and efficient, we didn't have to wait too long for anything. The place was pleasant, clean and well-kept. A solid 4.4 out of 5

Food not to my taste as a Chinese (too much msg) but service is excellent.

Google
Best traditional Chinese restaurant in Berlin and one of the best places to eat Peking duck in all of Germany! I would highly recommend ordering the Peking duck for 3-4, they carve it at your table, provide all the classic condiments and even ask how you'd prefer to have the remaining duck bones served (soup or fried), which is very authentic. If you're just there with 2ppl, they also offer Peking duck as an entry dish, so you won't miss out. All other duck dishes are also fantastic and they have a few other pretty special dishes on the menu, such as jellyfish salat. Prices are generally slightly higher than at other Chinese places, but still fair. Their Dim Sums are also pretty good and surprisingly cheaply priced. The interior and setting is very nice and clean, also suited for special occasions. Staff are very friendly and attentive (especially if you order the Peking duck, since it comes with extra service).

Google
Staff was friendly& fast serving. We ordered duck menu for 2 person beginning with vegetable soup. Delicious! Meat was well cooked and souces was great. Finishing with fried babana with ice cream dessert. We literally loved the restaurant. The best asian food in neigborhood (mitte) with nice decoration and staff

Aapo K

Google
Quite friendly staff, very generous portions, no long waiting times. Different portions can also easily be shared. Very good choice if you want dumplings, duck or other Asian foods.

Chris

Google
Prawns in sweet/sour sauce were ok, not very flavourful but the crispy duck was absolutely fantastic! Better than the duck I have had in china. Xiao long bao also very good. Very generous portions. I highly recommend trying this place specifically for the duck.

Yelp
We stopped here New Years Day Eve to enjoy a 2025 celebration. They had a 3 and 4 course menu and we chose the 3 course. It started off with the mushroom and chicken soup. Delicious flavor and presentation. Cooked perfectly, broth could have used a bit more depth in flavor but I rounded it out with a touch of ground pepper. The dumpling with side sauces were absolutely wonderful and nicely prepared. Assortment of meats and vegetables all loaded and steamed to perfection. The entree deserves top billing as it was arranged beautifully which mirrored the delicious flavor of the meat and accompanying vegetables. Loads of flavor, cooked perfectly and married with a nice sauce. The highlight was a glass of champagne offered at the start of the meal. Bubbly, not overly sweet and it was a great way to start the meal. Highly recommended. Beautiful location, very clean and nicely decorated for the holidays.

Yelp
Food - yummy! If you are in the museum island area and craving for Chinese cuisine, i recommend this. Their egg, chicken, and shrimp fried rice was really good! Their shrimp dimsum and pork siomai are yum too! Then of course, how can you go wrong with their Jolly half peking duck! All good! Service - meh. There were only 4 servers to an almost full restaurant at 1pm. But you just make eye contact and smile and they will notice you. Ambiance - nice! Like those nice chinese restaurant, no smell of their cooking. I was surprised. Before you raise your eyebrows on my comment, I just want to point out that I have been to those that smells like their food, sometimes its off-putting, sometimes its not. Overall, highly recommend. :)

Yelp
As Chinese born Berliner we enjoyed Jolly. The dishes were okay. Nothing really crazy, BUT the Peking duck is what is absolutely phenomenal and almost exactly what you can expect to get in good Peking duck spots in China. The Peking duck is an absolute 5/5 stars. All the other dishes + the high pricing of all dishes would make this place more of a 3/5. Very authentic! If you want to try great original Peking duck. This is your spot!

Yelp
Amazing food. When it has three chillies it is hot so if you like spicy food like mine it was delicious. Highly recommend.

Rolf L.

Yelp
Really massive portions, so beware not to order too much (we did...). Good & fresh fare. Friendly & fast service. Loads of Asian folks eating there which is always a good sign (they know their food). Recommended for sure!

Yelp
Happy to see a nice Asian place near museum island. Decorating pretty modern and comfy. We ordered half roasted duck, hot and sour soup, spicy boiled beef, zhanjiang noodle, and sausage with snow peas. Roasted duck and hot and sour soup are must haves. Both are right on the spot. Highly recommended. The rest are pretty good but not impressive. Services are pretty goo.

Yelp
Truth to tell I can't leave a full review because my party and I left early. It started out well enough - soups (hot & sour and won ton) and beers were fine. But then we had to wait forever for some skanky, skimpy dim sum. Then we had to wait even longer for our wines, chop sticks and condiments. We finally pulled the plug when the waiter came to the table with one glass of Cabernet. When I told him him we'd ordered Sauvignon Blanc, he replied that both wines have the word "Sauvignon" and so he was correct. Because that's not a thing, we left I should note they had a full restaurant and the THREE wait staff were slammed

Ann P.

Yelp
Excellent!!! Had the dim sum Peking duck with pancake combo dinner. Came with hot and sour soup. So good. The duck skin crisp and duck succulent.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
Delicious Chinese food from Sichuan and Canton. The different kinds of Dim Sum variations are awesome. This is place to be if you like to enjoy Dim Sum.

Michael S.

Yelp
Best Chinese food I have had out of the United States since I was in the Philippines in 1970.

Yelp
Quick service! Good food and nothing to complain about. Worth the money the menu was extensive and full of great taste.

Yelp
Roasted duck, carved at the table with fresh and replaced thin pancakes, hoisin suave, scallions and cucumbers. That's it ! You don't need to know anything more. I've had roasted duck in China and this was a pretty close second to the places we ate in Beijing. Service was so so but food was solid.

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Restaurant Jolly! The interior was like a fine dining restaurant. It was kind of funny how they had candlelit dinner tables with a romantic setting and people were chowing down with their chopsticks and rice bowls haha. We came here as they are famous for their peking duck. It was really good! We were starved after a full day of touring around Berlin and finished the day off dining here. Service was excellent. I'd recommend the: * Sweet & sour soup * Peking duck * Stir-fry veggies Also, a note to travellers.. they have free wifi! :D

Yelp
Unfortunately the dishes have no authenticity. Taste is ok but to name this as typical Asian Food is wrong
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Found this on Yelp. High rankings and in a location that was good for us. We were not disappointed - well maybe a little. The food was on point. We shared vegetable rolls, dim sum and Schezuan Duck (amazing). The staff was the only downside for us (maybe our expectations were off). If you are hungry for Asian food and near the Berliner Dom, Jolly is a good spot. It would be a great spot if the staff exemplified the name.
google avatar

Martin P.

Yelp
I had the Xiao Long Bao, the wan tans in chili oil and the Szechuan beef. The xlb were pretty good for Berlin but the rest was bad. The wan tans were tasteless and the beef not spicy. There wasn't even 1 (one) Szechuan pepper corn in it. Tasted like the usual assimilated stuff you get here in Germany.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
They made the best hot and sour soup of my life. Nice casual and elegant setting. Service is quick, if not brusk. They could improve upon the friendliness. They seem well equipped for large groups. I saw many tables were already reserved. The red curry was good but not great.
google avatar

Yelp
When you visit an Asian restaurant and you are the only non Asians eating...you know you are eating at the right place. Great atmosphere, good location and amazing food. We had the dinner for two and it was extremely filling... could have been for three or four light eaters. We left a lot of food. If your looking for not Chinese not Thai not Japanese... but something like it... this Asian hits the spot!

Skid Y.

Yelp
Please go if you want average quality food, flat soft, and The Rudest staff on planet earth. I for one am marking this place as a no go for all I know. Yikes
google avatar

Nina R.

Yelp
A really good choice for Asian food in Berlin. The food is very tasteful and staff is super nice and helpful. The dishes are enormous. We were 4 people and didn't manage to finish more than half of the food, so a tip would be to perhaps start with one dish to share (if couple) - then add another one if still hungry.. Or have starters before sharing.

Yelp
Let me say right off I think this place is 3 1/2 stars. After hours and hours spent on museum island we needed a bite to refresh and renew ourselves. It was raining, (Berlin in July! got to love it) and this place is right across from Pergamon so it won. The idea of having late afternoon dim sum sounded good. However, as I've come to learn dim sum in Germany does not mean the same thing as in Hong Kong or the states. Basically, they had 4 or 5 different dumplings you can order, but not traditional dim sum with a variety of small bites. That is fine, just something to know up front if you are expecting little carts rolling around with lovely treats on them or a menu of small bites and some tea. We ened up getting a "mixed sampler" of dumplings plus a sea food lemon grass soup. The sampler of dumplings had 2 dumplings of four different types. To be honest, only the veggie one was memorable. The rest were fine, but nothing special, but again I have high standards when it comes to dumplings and such, but lets say I wasn't impressed. The soup however was very good. It was spicy, the seafood was excellent, and it was almost like a laksa. I would vote this soup as a good hangover cure or jet lag cure. A bowl of spicy good things. IT was actually perfect for a raining afternoon. This soup is what is getting them closer to four stars in my book. So I would give this place another try and try out a few other things but I was not impressed with how the duck looked. But service was very good, and on a rainy afternoon a good place to get some spicy soup.

Yelp
This restaurant is a must-try! I have never before had authentic Chinese food outside of China - until I went to Jolly! A little expensive but great food. I had dinner here with my boyfriend to celebrate an anniversary. We met in China, so we decided to have Chinese food. We ordered the roasted duck with prawns and vegetables, beef with black pepper and silk tofu. All dishes were great! I would probably order duck without prawns next time though since they didn't taste much, or try the Peking duck!

YT C.

Yelp
As an Chinese American, this restaurant seemed to have treated me like some disowned family member. Almost no attention was given to me. I was given a small corner table while the German/white customers got the roomy tables - even for 2 Person groups. The hot and sour soup has a TOMATO base! Definitely not authentic. The Jolly tofu pot was passable. Interestingly used spam. No shrimp. On the positive side, the tables and chairs and whole ambiance was good. Just that they have some sort of reverse discrimination. If you r Asian, u know what to expect. Not fully authentic Chinese food and possible poor treatment.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Solid Chinese food. All that's missing are some more pork dishes, such as some crispy belly ;) Their Peking Duck is the thing to go for, but everything else I tried over a few visits were all good. For Chinese in Berlin, very good even. Efficient service too and nice to be able to look into the kitchen.

Yelp
I would have never imagined that I would I'd end up having Chinese food in Berlin! In any case, after a long day of touring Museuminsel on a chilly spring day, this was the closest restaurant to the island we could find, so we figured to give it a try. It ended up being a good decision! Being Chinese, I think I can validate the authenticity of its food. We especially loved the dim sum choices that were offered as part of the menu. After weeks of traveling in Europe, this was my first taste of home! For less than €30, we had quite a feast for two! The restaurant was surprisingly crowded on a weekday night. There was a mix of tourists and German business people. I'm taking a star off for its ridiculously slow service and lack of menus. The table next to us waited literally 20 minutes to get a menu! And we waited just about the same time to put down our order. The friendliness of the waiters and manager made up for the slow service in the end, though.

Gail C.

Yelp
I joked that this is the place in Berlin where all the veggies go. People crow about the duck here, but the veg red curry and clay pot were both amazing. Full of a wide variety of veggies, really fantastic flavors, silky tofu. Never thought I'd love Thai curry at a Chinese place but the red curry was excellent. Bay Area, CA born and raised so I'm used to both cuisines, in their restaurant form. Spice level is decent if slightly dumbed down for the northern EU taste. This was the only place we ate in a Berlin that I could see myself returning to regularly. Really quite lovely. Oh. And FAST.

Ulises G.

Yelp
The food was good. The service was good too. They lied about accepting credit cards. Their machine did not work, but somehow only if your card was not from a German bank.

Kelly S.

Yelp
My family and I have been in europe for about 2 weeks and were getting tired of German/Italian/Czech food, so we headed to Jolly. Very quiet as we walked in on a saturday at noon, we all ordered some kind of dumpling and a soup. The veggie dumplings were really great, however the pork ones were lacking. The check came to only €32 for a family of 3, and the service was okay. We did enjoy the change of cuisine though and would recommend for others to stop by. Free wifi password is located on the corner of the placemat.

Yelp
Good Asian food for Berlin, good Asian food period. German food is sorely lacking in spices and after a week of wursts and potatoes, s schezuan kick to the stomach was very welcome. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Dim sum even, not half bad.
google avatar

Chridtian E.

Yelp
Possibly one the best... neigh, thee greatest Asian food I've had in Europe, would honestly consider a trip back to Berlin just to eat here. The sweet and sour duck with lychee was amazing, along with the duck curry, and fried noodle with chicken, top tier. Duck game strong tho. Would recommend again and again.

Yelp
I was in Berlin in early October. My niece and I toured the Museum Island. We found Jolly nearby, with pretty good reviews, so we decided to have lunch here. We ordered crisp duck, small steamed dumplings, spicy lamb and mushroom/vegetables. What a surprise! Every dish was delicious! My niece studied in Germany for years and now works in Hamburg. She said this was her one of her most favorable Chinese meals. We at Chinese and I am from NYC area. That tells you how good the food was! We highly recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Mayor S.

Yelp
We had a long day of walking with the family and landed in the restaurant by chance. By LUCK I should say. The food was delicious and the service was very kind. Will definitely come back and would recommend. Every course and choice was better than the one before. My regards and a 'great job!' To the chef!
google avatar

Nzhdeh A.

Yelp
Really delicious food. Big portions. Great atmosphere. Overall, would certainly recommend.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Amazing crispy duck and dim sum. My partners soup was good as well. Nice ambiance and friendly service. The duck was enormous, easily enough for two with appetizers. Two drinks, two apps and a main course came to 32 euro. Well worth it!!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Same as the person who reviewed before me, the main reason we ate here was because we were tired and starving from walking around Museum Island and Restaurant Jolly was right across the street. We, however, couldn't have been happier with our choice. The service was very attentive and kind, and the food was delicious. Our waiter was wonderful, and made a very strong effort to speak English with us. We almost visited again the night after, and we only didn't because we preferred to try something new. Definitely recommend it!

Se Q.

Yelp
We (2ppl) ordered the set menu for two, a bottle of water, two large beers and a small beer all together at 43 €. the set was as a whole very delicious and highly recommended. the servings and the pacing between dishes was good. I usually eat a lot and was skeptical there would be enough food to fill my appetite--there was, and with leftovers! The ambient is calm and stylish. The set included: -sweet and sour soup -4 egg rolls -the main dishes (breaded duck and beef stir fried) served on the same platter and with a large bowl of rice -vanilla ice cream with deep-fried bananas
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
A good variety of Asian regional food grouping. All items on the menu where good portions and rich on flavors. Still an authentic place that keeps some traditions in place. Certainly a place to repeat!
google avatar

K G.

Yelp
Second time here in a week. GREAT food. Try the potstickers and curry items. Great service. No disappointment.
google avatar

Christina K.

Yelp
A little expensive for value for money but the atmosphere is nice and the food was very tasty. Compared to the typical tourist traps around this area Jolly is definitely a better option.

Liezl P.

Yelp
I went on a Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 and the place was not packed at all. Amazing value and great atmosphere. I ordered the lunch special with duck and noodles for around 8 euro. It was delicious!

Schorschi S.

Yelp
Good located in an interesting part of central Berlin, close the Angela Merkels house. Visited by a lot of Asian customers. Modern designed with a lot of space. Food (soup, Peking chicken) was good, service friendly and attentive
google avatar

Melanie R.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in here for a late dinner and were seated quickly. I had the noodles with vegetables and cashews which was quite tasty. Not too oily, and I was able to add my own spices. My husband had the 8 piece mix of dim sum and he scarfed them down. He only wished he order the 10 piece, since it was so good. Great service and a friendly, local vibe.

SD S.

Yelp
I work for a German company and come to Berlin a few times each year. I found this place years ago on my first visit after leaving tired and hungry from the Pergamom. It is now a "regular" place for me. The service is good, the food is good (I recommend the dim sum or duck soup), they recognized me as needing chopsticks immediately because I knew how to order (San Francisco trains one well). I have brought Chinese colleagues who find very authentic dishes on the menu and have expanded my repertoire (the cold chicken is also excellent). My only complaint is that there are few vegetables. Perhaps it is difficult to find Gai Lan or sugar pea shoots in Germany? But I think they could find something to sautéed in a little garlic or toss with some oyster sauce to make sure the meal is more balanced...still. You should go. It's well worth it.

Malte D.

Yelp
Jolly is a bit hidden behind the museums. We tried this one several times and always had a good time there. The service is friendly, the interior design is modern and clean. The Dim Sum are fresh and worth trying and they dare to serve dishes in there original spiciness. Shui zu niu rou is recommendable, also the pork belly. Didn't try the desserts yet, but we will come back to try some more of their dishes. Prices are not cheap but match the quality. For me it's in the league of the best 5 chinese restaurants in Berlin. Now we've been there many times and the first time we've been dissatisfied when trying their most expensive dish, the peking duck., the first time. It didn't look at all like the photos within the menu and was just one piece of duck skin, the rest just normal duck meat. When asked about the reasons for that change, they didn't say sorry but tried to convince us, that this is normal peking duck style, which obviously is not. Even the skin color was just light brown instead of the crunchy dark brown normal style. For a price of 19 euro this is not acceptable and we told them. No sorry, no discount, no free drink, no attempt to solve the situation. For that price level they should be prepared better for complaints and should handle them better and transparent. We won't come back after this experience.

Mika J.

Yelp
Delicious Chinese food, almost same as you eat in China. We like the Modern and bright atmosphere there.

morgan K.

Yelp
The Peking duck is so good, it's a must at restaurant Jolly. The noodles with vegetables and cashews is great too! Everything was freshly prepared and delicious!

David C.

Yelp
The food isn't that good nor fresh. And the portions doesn't quite well match the quality. The only positive things would be the interior and the friendly waiters.

Calum M.

Yelp
Our first night in Berlin and we chose well, the service and food were first class the Peking duck was the best I have ever had, and the main was plentiful, I could not finish it, and all at a very fair price

Pam R.

Yelp
Food was fresh and good. Service just average, had to ask for water refills several times. Relaxed service, they're in no rush to take your order or bring your check, which is nice. Great atmosphere, warm and inviting and easy to have a good conversation with low noise level.
