Neighborhood Vanguard Avalon Bakery Is Streamlining Production and Closing Its Flagship Willis Street Location | Eater Detroit

"I note that Jolly Pumpkin, a pizzeria and brewery a block from Avalon’s Willis Street cafe, will host Avalon inside its space during morning hours when the pizzeria and brewery are usually closed, allowing Avalon to continue its morning runs for regulars and to offer weekend brunch; Mission Restaurant Group currently manages both Avalon and Jolly Pumpkin locations." - Serena Maria Daniels

The jolly pumpkin is a nice restaurant that is clean and well run. I give it a 4 only because I felt the menue was a bit small for my liking. Also, I tried the lamb burger and it was indeed tasty, but a little too garlicy not to mention the bun was a little small and the juices caused it to fall apart easily. I tried their beer "The Havoc" and it was just OK to me compared with other IPAs I've had.

I had an espresso martini type drink during the jazz festival and it was phenomenal. The server was excellent. The Buffalo chicken sandwich tasted good but it was so hard to eat it literally fell apart into a sloppy mess. Still smashed tho. And the fries were on point. Mom had the blt, said it was good but she didn’t like the curried chips

Contemporary. Casual. Cool. Nice nightlife spot conveniently located within downtown East Lansing. I enjoyed the unique, healthy food options! The staff was energetic and attentive. Diners comprised of adults of a wide age range. The upper level dining and separate bar area lends to an upscale feel. Parking ramp is nearby. I’m looking forward to returning!

Good sour beer! Ask for a flight if you want try the latest tap all at once. Good truffle pizza but food from kids' menu is disappointed. Fried chicken sandwich is very plain. Brussels sprout is great!

Unique approach to bar food. It's bar food options with a twist. Like the Reuben pizza, lamb burger, burger with cambazola cheese, warm artichoke sandwich. The truffle fries are delicious. That being said, the menu is limited in options. Many of their house craft beer was sold out so I wasn't able to try their IPAs. Decor is nice, parking is a breeze with the ramp directly above the restaurant.

Server was amazing. Super nice and welcoming gentleman. Ordered a medium rare lamb burger. It was well done and parts were burned with char. Totally took away from any of the seasonings that really complement this burger. I've had it at the Detroit and Royal Oak locations and this was the first time it was not prepared as it should be. Therefore I just ate a few slices of my fiance's pizza.

Staff is friendly, menu selection is good. My teenage son ordered the Mac and cheese (without bacon) and found it to be incredible bland. Couldn't even finish - which is rare for him and pasta. Lots of vegetarian options, although an impossible or beyond burger would be a great add.

I have always loved their pizzas, ambience, and service. This time we ordered their red chicken nachos which were okay. We thought it had a lot of beans and there was rarely any chicken. However, overall the flavors were nice. Especially with the pickled onions.
