I caught Jolly Pumpkin at my favorite time: during MSU winter break! It wasn't noisy, we received timely, friendly service. The food was delicious. I ordered 2 dishes in 2 days (silly story), and both dishes were fantastic: sweet potato bowl, then the brussel sprout salad. You read that right: excellent brussel sprouts and kale salad!! Then I enjoyed one of their sour ales, tasty and unique, a high compliment from one who prefers lagers like Yuengling, which they also serve. Check it out!! Especially during winter and summer breaks...😉

Google
The jolly pumpkin is a nice restaurant that is clean and well run. I give it a 4 only because I felt the menue was a bit small for my liking. Also, I tried the lamb burger and it was indeed tasty, but a little too garlicy not to mention the bun was a little small and the juices caused it to fall apart easily. I tried their beer "The Havoc" and it was just OK to me compared with other IPAs I've had.

Google
I had an espresso martini type drink during the jazz festival and it was phenomenal. The server was excellent. The Buffalo chicken sandwich tasted good but it was so hard to eat it literally fell apart into a sloppy mess. Still smashed tho. And the fries were on point. Mom had the blt, said it was good but she didn’t like the curried chips

Google
Contemporary. Casual. Cool. Nice nightlife spot conveniently located within downtown East Lansing. I enjoyed the unique, healthy food options! The staff was energetic and attentive. Diners comprised of adults of a wide age range. The upper level dining and separate bar area lends to an upscale feel. Parking ramp is nearby. I’m looking forward to returning!

Sylvia L.

Google
Good sour beer! Ask for a flight if you want try the latest tap all at once. Good truffle pizza but food from kids' menu is disappointed. Fried chicken sandwich is very plain. Brussels sprout is great!

Nathan B.

Google
Unique approach to bar food. It's bar food options with a twist. Like the Reuben pizza, lamb burger, burger with cambazola cheese, warm artichoke sandwich. The truffle fries are delicious. That being said, the menu is limited in options. Many of their house craft beer was sold out so I wasn't able to try their IPAs. Decor is nice, parking is a breeze with the ramp directly above the restaurant.

Google
Server was amazing. Super nice and welcoming gentleman. Ordered a medium rare lamb burger. It was well done and parts were burned with char. Totally took away from any of the seasonings that really complement this burger. I've had it at the Detroit and Royal Oak locations and this was the first time it was not prepared as it should be. Therefore I just ate a few slices of my fiance's pizza.

Google
Staff is friendly, menu selection is good. My teenage son ordered the Mac and cheese (without bacon) and found it to be incredible bland. Couldn't even finish - which is rare for him and pasta. Lots of vegetarian options, although an impossible or beyond burger would be a great add.

Yelp
Arrived at Michigan State University for the weekend. We made reservations for 11 at Jolly Pumpkin Cafe. Making the reservations was really easy. We were able to add allergies as well. We arrived and our table was ready. The server gave us water's immediately and then asked if we wanted other drinks. He also asked us who had the allergies and gave him options which was great. Decided to order the Falafel Sandwich with a side of truffle fries. As an appetizer, we got Candied Brussel Sprouts. While the Brussels looked burnt, they tasted really good. It had the perfect amount of Parmesan. I requested for Falafel Sandwich to be fried extra crispy as I heard it may come soggy. The Seasame seasoning was not overbearing. The crispy falafel came in between challah bun but what I really liked was the garlic hummus - it really made the sandwich. The truffle dip was tasty and the fries were my favorite "fresh cut!" We ordered the Gluten Free pizza with pepperoni and fries. The pizza was baked in an aluminum container to avoid cross contamination. The fries are in a dedicated fryer but they called it gluten friendly cause the basket next to it fried gluten products but we were ok getting him the fries. Overall, the food was great but the service was even better. The place was hopping with people and it appears everyone was having a great time. I really enjoyed the overall experience. We would dine here again.

Yelp
Jolly pumpkin was okay? It's a very popular chain in Michigan. However, I've never been that impressed in the 2 times I've been. I would say it's definitely a nice ambiance with the bar scene, drinks and bar food. I didn't enjoy the pizza at all. Some of the other food though and the appetizers were much better. Service was fast though and accommodated for my big party really really attentively!

J S.

Yelp
They have at least 3 vegan mains, including vegan mozzarella for pizzas. I had the fried noodle salad, which is a rainbow in a bowl. Healthy, filling, and very tasty!

Yelp
university area i'm guessing got stuck beside a table with a 20 something who said LIKE every third word more importantly staff was nice food quick excellent pizza they put bacon in the salad we asked for no bacon... "oh well, like that like can like happen like sometimes...."
google avatar

Yelp
Great location and appetizers! Perfect place to take your family when you visit your MSU student!
google avatar

Yelp
A friend and I went to this location. They got the Bourbom Barrel Aged Madrugada Obscura Stout -- they said it was 4.5/5. The candied brussel sprouts appetizer was PHENOMENAL (and I hate sprouts). Entrees we ate Mac and cheese and the warm grain bowl. The Mac was very heavy, and bacon less well done. The grain bowl was a perfect portion. The dressing may be a little spicy to some, so I recommend getting it on the side.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday for a couple of beers and some appetizers. The Brussel sprouts and truffle fries were both very good. Surprised by the large portion sizes, but wasn't sad about it. The sour beers were also on point. Nice quick stop that didn't disappoint.

Paul W.

Yelp
terrible place. save yourself time and go somewhere else. Staff is slow and food takes over an hour to be made, then it's cold when it gets to your table

The B.

Yelp
Nice place, a lot bigger inside than we thought. The Parmesan Fries are excellent, but the real show stopper was the lamb burger. Top 3 all time burgers I've ever had. Will happily go back just for another one of those. The cumin chips are different but pretty tasty. Will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Walked in to eat before a State football game and thought it would be a good time. However, our waitress left mid meal with no comment or heads up. The drinks ran dry and the service was non- existent, literally. The food was good, but nothing stood out as a must have again staple. Not sure I'd come back again, but it was worth a try.
google avatar

Yelp
Located close to campus, this place was festive and well-populated. The ambiance is great, with a lot of dining options. We were sat quickly and the food was pretty good. However, our service was...not good. The waitress only asked once if we wanted drink refills. When I asked for the check, she simply pointed at a bar code on the table and said, "You can pay there" and kept walking. Uhh, ok. Thanks for the classy and friendly service. I'll probably give this place one more shot, though, as everything else was good with the visit.

Yelp
Great atmosphere: craft drinks. Extensive taps and excellent cuisine. Ordered Fried Chicken Sandwich - Spinach Sweet Potato Bowl : excellent.
google avatar

Hubert H.

Yelp
2 stars for the food, but 1 extra star for the environment, friendly service, and outdoor seating. Had the fried brussel sprouts - tasty, but way way too oily. They were definitely deep-fried, and came out as a puddle of oil. I also had a sweet barbecue chicken pizza dish (I can't remember the exact name) - here I think initially it was quite delicious, but after a few slices felt that the prevalence of cheese at the expense of any other flavor overpowered the dish. Nice seating areas, indoors and outdoors.
google avatar

Aditi P.

Yelp
Overall a really great place. I got the chicken fried sandwich it was literally the size of my face and truffle fries. I wish the truffle fries weren't lukewarm and fresh because I think they would've been 1000 times better but honestly the curried chips were a hit too. I also love that there were vegan and vegetarian options. The service was also great. I got a jalapeño watermelon margarita that did not disappoint. Lastly the cheese bread and marinara was straight up crack. I really enjoyed it and wish I had a bigger stomach to eat everything!
google avatar

Yelp
I am really impressed with Jolly Pumpkin in East Lansing. My family wanted to try something different before an MSU game and we weren't disappointed. Upon entry the staff were kind and had smiles on their faces. We were seated immediately and ordered drinks. The Watermelon Sugar drink was so delicious! We all enjoyed our food. The cheesy bread and smoke and fire pizza were the biggest hits. Our server frequented our table often to make sure everything was fine and we never had empty drinks. We will come back!
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
This place was great. We sat outside on the street. Our server was fantastic even with our rowdy bunch! The apps were so good. Highly recommend the cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. The chicken sandwich is huge, but very good. It could easily been split. Drinks were good, beer was good, this is a solid spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. First time here but seems to be a popular spot and conveniently located on the part of the street that's closed with outdoor activities. Service was good and the food was great. Our friends got the burgers and fries and were raving about their meals. We got the nachos to share, margherita pizza for my wife, penne pasta for my toddler and I tried to go a little healthier and do the Mediterranean bowl. The nachos were spectacular and I think the secret was the fact they used a seasoned chicken. My wife raves about her pizza and I got a tasty bite and my bowl was very delicious and flavorful. Would recommend them all. Bonus we didn't even know about was the kids eat free on Sunday bonus so we said on our sons meal and no brainier to get him ice cream as well! Definitely a place worth trying
google avatar

Nithya G.

Yelp
I was surprised to see good vegetarian options here! I liked the Flash fried cauliflower and chicken sandwich. The best part of this place was the yummy curry chips. Overall nice ambiance, good food and was great place to watch the Spartan game!
google avatar

Hillary S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer while out on a walk after dinner. They have a nice selection of beers and plenty of sours, which I love! We were able to try samples before choosing our beers, which is always nice when you can't decide but don't want a flight! I tried La Rosa boysenberry and guava, which was very tasty. The pineapple guava gose was a close second. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food looked really good but we had already eaten, so we will have to return someday for a meal! Safety precautions for Covid were being followed while we were there, staff wore masks and tables were spaced apart/kept empty.
google avatar

Yelp
Been to both of the locations in Ann Arbor and East Lansing and we have never been disappointed.
google avatar

Hinna S.

Yelp
Environment is nice overall however Im not particularly a fan of the food. I don't think I've had an entree which really stood out. We had a few drinks which were good. Service was great two times when we went. Another time we had went, we waited for a long time and realized they had forgotten about us- though it was a busy night so it's understandable.

Emily W.

Yelp
Fast service. The food was good! We had the fried cauliflower and split the caprese wrap with truffle fries. Both huge portions.
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
We grabbed Jolly Pumpkin after perusing the East Lansing Art Festival a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The Brussels sprouts were excellent for an appetizer and were a pretty decent size portion. The chicken sandwich I got (I can't remember the name of it) was delicious and the curry chips that came with it were oddly satisfying. My Mom, Dad, and significant other all enjoyed their meals as well. Service was great and we'll probably be back!
google avatar

Elijah W.

Yelp
Came here just for a drink and desserts and the service was very fast and the desserts were decent. Nothing super special but a fun place to hang out with some friends.
google avatar

Bil M.

Yelp
These curry potato chops are no joke!! Awesome new restaurant in a great central location. I'm not a craft beer guy but their cocktails were a cut above. The pizza was okay, nothing special. Lots of TVs to watch Sparty. Did I mention the curry potato chips?
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
It was just happenstance that we wandered in here. It turned out that it was during happy hour when tap and apps (beer on tap & appetizers) are half price. Wow! What a bargain! It was fun sampling the beers, and the appetizers (fried cauliflower and the nachos) were quite good. Service and ambience were above average. The two of us were stuffed and feeling good with a tab of around $30. Hard to beat that!
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken sandwich. First taste was amazing and then it fell apart. My son ordered the lamb burger and it was amazing. Cooked perfectly. I love the curry chips. I wouldn't bother with fries. They are so good.

Josh W.

Yelp
Killer food My brother said best chicken sandwich ever The cheesy blt was amazing I almost ordered one to go The house rye whiskey good , smooth
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
If you like sour beers and ales--I do--theirs are spot on. Pizza was only average, though. Very cool logo.

Rob T.

Yelp
Came in for a couple quick beers while I was in town for a conference. Cool location and very comfortable inside. Knowledgable bartender and their IPA was spot on. If I lived here I'd be a regular.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
I'm not a fan. The fries were excessively salty. I couldn't even eat the sandwich. Maybe just not what I expected. But not my thing.
google avatar

Gabriel B.

Yelp
Really great spot to grab a meal or a drink with buddies. My favorite drink is their Tortuga Chocolate Stout. They also have great food! Their truffle fries are a sure win and everyone's gotta try their fried chicken sandwich
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
What a disappointment... All three brews I tried were awful. The $8 appetizer of fries was stale, chicken tenders hard as a rock and bland burger (with no condiments!?). Service was okay but SLOW. At least the atmosphere and decor was cool but not worth the overpriced, overcooked meal. We originally planned to go to Hopcat. Should have stuck with that plan.

Lisa T.

Yelp
We went based on reviews and the outdoor seating on a nice summer night. We unfortunately regretted it. Appetizer of Red Chicken Nachos was a sloppy mess with hardly any chicken to be found. The "red" part tasted like tomato paste with chili seasoning dumped in it. We ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich which seemed like the "fried" Consistency of a frozen chicken nugget. It was pale and soggy and nothing "fried" about it. Then it was smothered in weird toppings making the whole thing a soggy mess. I had the Mushroom pizza. The crust reminded me of the Pillsbury pizza crust in the pop open canister or like my school cafeteria pizza crust. It was dense and undercooked. The beer selection was pretty good - thank god I had a decent beer after that mess of a meal. The service was friendly and attentive. I should have known when I asked the server for a recommendation and she laughed and did not give me one but said which items were "often ordered". Hop Cat across the street is a much better choice.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing and the staff was great for the most part, but it took us a full hour and 15 minutes from the time we sat down until we finally got our food. It was 20 minutes after we ordered before someone came out to tell us they were out of some we had ordered. We asked for a manager twice before he finally came over. When we expressed our concerns that the three tables around us who were sat long after us got their food before we did, he was dismissive and rude. The only explanation he gave us was that they were down two people in the kitchen and they fulfill orders in the order they come to the kitchen, which is not an explanation for why our table was served later than the tables who were sat after us. I've worked in food service and give a lot of grace to restaurant staff on busy days, but being dismissive and rude when I have tried to be understanding and respectful is something I will not tolerate.

Zak M.

Yelp
Only had one, it was really good tho- menu looked extensive with good Beg options and they have some other good beers I have tried always a solid place for option and a great atmosphere
google avatar

Thea L.

Yelp
Everything I love about casual dining is at Jolly Pumpkin. Interesting beer to try and the most delicious salad I've ever had.
google avatar

Cullen M.

Yelp
Super good eats and tasty beers. We are from out of state visiting to see if she likes campus etc. David was our waiter and spent a lot of time answering questions we had about MSU and the area. Hopefully we'll be back!

Katherine J.

Yelp
Food was underwhelming. Not bad, just not great. Service was great. Ambiance ok. Just don't get the salads. Very bland.

Curtis N.

Yelp
Wonderful SERVICE! Came this afternoon for the first time and seriously impressed! The food was incredibly great! Both pizzas were amazing and spicy Bloody Mary was exceptional! The ice box dessert was the best dessert I have ever had! Will definitely be back! And service was fast, very knowledgeable and friendly!

Brittney B.

Yelp
The pumpkin roll desert was amazing I want seven more like right now. Also the Cobb salad was great!

Yelp
We were at your location on 9/4 with our niece and her grandfather. While we were waiting for our food, someone dropped a stack of dishes; part of one got in his eye, he also cut his right hand which he put up to shield himself. Our waitress Claire D was very helpful, and kudos especially to Rudy, who took our friend into the men's room, irrigated his eye, and stopped his cut from bleeding and bandaged it. The person who dropped the dishes--I did not get her name--was very apologetic; she kept coming over to our table to make sure he was all right, and we understand that things happen, we do not blame her in any way. We were very disappointed that the manager never came over to our table to make sure our friend was all right, and did not offer to comp his meal. We expected better; your manager might need some more training when it comes to customer service; as far as we were concerned, she did a very poor job. If she had done these things, I would have given 4 stars; as it is, 2 is all that is warranted.

Linda M.

Yelp
Beers are jolly pumpkin are always good. I had the house special salad, it was awesome! Strawberries, blueberry's, goat cheese, chicken. I'm not a huge salad fan but this one is going back for!!

Joanna G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service, nice menu and food variety, good drink selection we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Servers were very nice and attentive but not overly so. Outdoor seating was great and comfortable. The food was unique, in a good way. We got two sandwiches to share, stuffed burger and "perfect: chicken. The burger was great! The chicken sandwich was different than any I have had before but not in a bad way. The sauce was unique with turmeric in it and the slaw was good on it. The truffle fries were good too! Not giving it 5 star because of the wait time. On a Tuesday night we waited about 20 min for the food to come out. It was not crazy long through.

Renee B.

Yelp
I'm glad this place is only 3 blocks away, because I will be coming here often! I have been craving the farro and brussel salad... so delicious. Such a cute atmosphere, great food, and strong drinks!

Andrew G.

Yelp
Pizza was terrible. Way too much cheese and undercooked. Try Barrios next door, a much better option.
google avatar

Sophia L.

Yelp
Good service and nice interior but the food is nothing special. Good for watching a game and a good burger.
google avatar

Cherish P.

Yelp
Ordered pizzas, burgers, and Mac & cheese. Pizzas and burgers were really good and flavorful. Mac was a bit bland. Good portions and would definitely try more options. The chicken sandwich looked amazing when we saw it come out for another table.
