The Best Korean Restaurants in San Diego

"Korean hot pot chain made Jomary Kamjatang its first foray into the U.S. with its Convoy Street location after establishing over 220 branches since it got its start in Korea in 1989. Since the initial Convoy Street location opened in 2022, the chain has added a second location in National City and expanded to Cerritos with a Las Vegas outpost in the works. Known for its gamjatang, a shareable stew made with pork bones, vegetables, and gochujang, the menu also features variations like the spicy bean sprout bone stew and soy braised pork bone stew. Other options include bossam, seafood pancake, and bibimbap." - Helen I. Hwang

Where to Eat and Drink on Convoy Street

"This Korean restaurant specializes in gamjatang, a spicy pork back-bone stew packed with potatoes, cellophane noodles, pork, and vegetables. Often eaten as a late-night snack with soju, it’s also known as “hangover soup” to remedy any impending headaches." - Helen I. Hwang

Korea’s Jomaru Gamjatang Opens First U.S. Restaurant in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"Jomaru Gamjatang is a prolific restaurant chain that has opened its first U.S. location on Convoy Street in the Seoul Plaza strip mall in San Diego. The restaurant specializes in a Korean soup based on a pork neck bone broth seasoned with hot pepper flakes, hot pepper paste, and perilla seeds. The menu includes personal-sized bowls, larger pots for sharing, and optional add-ins like vermicelli, ramen, and rice cakes. Other variations include a spicy bean sprout bone stew and a soy-braised version. The restaurant also offers a selection of Korean liquor, including soju and makgeolli. The menu extends to starters and other specialties like chive and seafood pancakes, bibimbap, and bo-ssam. Operating daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., this is likely the chain’s only branch in San Diego, with plans for more locations in Los Angeles and other parts of the country." - Candice Woo

What a wonderful meal tonight at Jomaru! My friend and I love Korean pork bone hotpot. We found this new opened spot from a lot of people’s recommendations. We ordered a medium size pork bone hotpot and a chive pancake. The size is pretty big, we didn’t really finish all. These amount of food can feed 3 girls. But all the food are so amazing. We loved all the things on our table, especially the pork bone hotpot. There are a lot of meats on the bone, they are so soft and flavorful. The meats are falling apart from the bone. I love the amount of fat on the meat to make it so satisfying. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Google
If you’re not used to a hot pot, or never tried, they have comfort Korean dishes available to order. Since there was 3 of us we ordered a medium of the recommended spicy pork bone soup and an order or Bibimbap. Note that Korean food is a spicy for the average taste so expect full flavor. Also with your order Korean dishes tend to serve a complimentary appetizer of “banchan” or Korean vegetable side dishes. The ambiance feels like your at right home in a South Korean restaurant.

Google
The experience and food tonight by was so good! We ordered the pork tonkotsu, spicy pork bone broth, and galbi. Everything came out really fast, food was fresh and crispy. We were extremely satisfied! The portions were huge so we probably have leftovers for at least a few more meals. Would 10/10 recommend!

Google
I ordered the Pork bone hotpot and cheese fried rice from the recommended list some people posted but the food was disappointing. The portion of calamari was little , and one of the staff interrupted my sentence when I asked for some side dishes refill by saying ‘wait!’. So I didn’t like the service or the food and especially when the food wasn’t cheap.

So so so so delicious! We loved being there. We felt welcomed and invited to go in, loved the fact that the menu is not huge with so many options because you can tell that they are great at what they do. We ordered the spicy pork stew (Large) and the seafood pancake (hemul jeon and the Gam ja tang) so good and is not crazy spicy. It was a bit too much food for the 4 of us all girls. Totally recommend and invited to come back! Loved it!

Google
Gam Ja Tang (Pork Spine Bone & Potato Soup) is their famous and signature dish. It is pretty awesome. You are supposed to do a fried rice (with cheese) on the same pan to finish your meal, and that is indeed the way to go. BUT, I made the mistake of not finishing everything, all the soup (with meat that I spent 5 minutes to pick out), and they actually threw those away to put in the fried rice (I veru much regretted that). Otherwise, its an overall good experience (both food & service)

Jomaru Gamjatang Korean Hot Pot San Diego, California Chuck and I had dined at a few Hot Pot Restaurants recently. Most of those were Japanese or Chinese Hot Pots. We have never tried a Korean Hot Pot Restaurant before so we decided to try Jomaru which is a franchise from South Korea. The restaurant was decorated nicely and the tables had induction burners for the Hot Pot. The service was excellent and our waitress was very informative and very friendly. She explained in detail the menu items for the Hot Pot and there were several you can choose from. She was very attentive and also very personable. The prices were very reasonable for a Hot Pot Restaurant. $40.00 for a medium Hot Pot for two and $55.00 for a large Hot Pot for three people. Since this was our first time we decided to order their most popular Hot Pot which was Gam Ja Tang which is a Spicy Pork Bone Soup. Before we receive our Banchan which were all delicious. I especially loved the Kimchi and the Korean pepper. Along with the Hot Pot dish you can order several "Add On" items such as Ramen, Udon, Potato Pasta, etc. We decided to get the Seasoned Napa Cabbage, Ramen, and Fried Rice which is served near the end of the meal. All those were a great and delicious accompaniment to the Hot Pot. The Hot Pot was filled with lots of meat, mushrooms, Perilla Leaves, Potato, and some other vegetables. The Broth was delicious and just had enough spice or heat to tickle your throat. The meat was tender. The fried rice came near the end if the meal which was also delicious. You can also order some of thier specialty dishes which is found on the other side of the Menu. You will find Bulgogi, Bibimpap, Pork Cutlet, California, etc. Overall I would definitely return to dine here. The service was fantastic and the food delicious

We came on non peak hours so we got seated right away. Food sooo good we ordered medium size and I think it can feed 2-4 people. Highly recommend for everyone to visit and enjoy the food!

Yelp
This is probably one of the first pork stew pot restaurants I have been to. Usually other places serve beef stew but this restaurant does pork stew! They have a great soup base which very tender and soft pork meat. It comes with this wasabi sauce that I love! It brings a little bit of spice to the pot. It comes with pork meet, vegetables, mushrooms, and scallions. You can add more to it and I usually add more potatoes and udon noodles. The service is great! They have aprons to prevent the soup from splashing onto you. The server is also kind and will ask if you would like help cutting the meat off of the bones. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
You have to try the Gamjatang if you're coming here. It's super flavorful and comes with a bunch of meat. For the 2 of us, it was more than enough and we took leftovers to go. You can add some more additional toppings/sides and so we also got some ramen added. Considering how much meat there is, it's almost mandatory to order some kind of carb on the side in order out to balance the entire meal. Even though we didn't order it, they recommend ordering their fried rice at the end to enjoy with the broth. I can see this helping a lot, and honestly I'd rather them include rice (and increase the price) with the gamjatang already since it's hard to just eat the hotpot alone with nothing else (even with the free banchan sides). Also you can always ask for more broth. However it would be nice if the hotpot was a little bit deeper because when we put our ramen in, there wasn't a lot of space to even get it fully submerged (even when the pot was full of broth). I also appreciated how for some of their other side dishes, they serve a "mini" version. We got the mini Bibim Naeng Myun which was nice and refreshing. The noodles were nicely chewy too. Overall I really liked the food and experience.

Yelp
We ordered the Gam Ja Tang (spicy pork bone soup) and it was delicious. Rich broth, not overly spicy and the meat was super tender. We especially enjoyed the pieces with cartilage that adds great texture and flavor. The spicy cold noodles was refreshing, especially on a hot day. We also got the Bo Ssam and it was tasty and satisfying. We asked for extra cabbage and they didn't charge us, which I always appreciate, love when places aren't stingy. Portions were generous and it was more than enough food for 4 of us. The restaurant has a casual vibe and the service was really friendly. Parking can be a challenging since the lot is small but honestly, the food makes it worth it. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Amazing spot. I split a Gam-Ja-Tang with two other people and it was so filling. The broth tasted amazing and the pork was delicious. There are add ons that you can buy like instant ramen, mushrooms, udon, etc. and it makes it much better. You can only buy the add ons if you buy the group hotpot though. They refill the broth though so it is always hot and filled! Service was fast and smooth. Pretty nice and we didn't wait that long for our food. Pretty spacious and a lot of room. It reminds me of your typical Korean restaurant. Overall, this was a great spot and the food was amazing. I would totally go again. Great price for what it's worth and the amount you get.

Yelp
Solid Korean spot with flavorful dishes and banchan The seafood pancake was crispy and well-seasoned, though a little oily as they usually are. The galbi short rib was tender and nicely marinated, one of the better ones I've had with a decent portion size. The banchan were a highlight with the radish, kimchi, and fish cake all being excellent. The naengmyun was refreshing and quite mild, though I didn't love the taste as much as others did. Friends also tried the bibimbap which looked satisfying. The combination dinner options were really good value and let us try more dishes. They also provided tea which was felt so good on the throat and paired well with the spicy banchan The restaurant is not too big or too small with a good vibe, though it gets a little loud. Service was attentive and friendly throughout, doing a solid job overall. The value here is excellent considering the portion sizes and quality. Would come back at some point to try more dishes

Yelp
I came here with a couple of my cousins. I let them order. The food was good and we really enjoyed the yogurt soju! Servers were friendly and accommodating. This place can definitely accommodate big groups! This meal cost around $100 without tip. It fed 3 of us and we couldn't finish it so we took a lot to go!

Yelp
Parking can be bad during peak hours so you might have to park on the street. Service is good and the restaurant size is decent. They try to maximize space by having smaller parties share the big tables which is good. The menu is pretty straight forward so it all depends on what you're craving. I did want to try the gamja-tang (what they're known for) but my friend and I weren't that hungry so we got galbi and bibimbap. Portions are pretty decent especially for the price you pay. The banchan is good as well. I liked that the steamed egg wasn't super salty and wasn't a weird watery texture. Overall would definitely come back and would want to try their gamja-tang next!

Yelp
Saturday dinner with my girlfriend. She's from Seattle and was craving Bibimbap in hot stone so I researched and this spot had top reviews. My friend arrived first she grabbed a table, water was already waiting when I got there. We both ordered from he Hot Stone Bibimbaps. Immediately after we ordered the banchans arrived, my favorite part of going out for Korean food. Our servers were extremely attentive which is always a plus. Food came out within 5-10 minutes while we were enjoying the banchans. Everything was so yummy. They are generous with the meat and veggies, but I would have liked a smidge more rice because the crispy rice was the best part of getting the hot stone. It's a smaller size restaurant, brightly lit and clean. My only qualm is very limited parking. In fact I almost got into an altercation over parking. Two men tried to bully me out my parking spot. They didn't succeed of course. Looking forward to come back to try the cold noodles!

Yelp
Small portions, lackluster flavors and poor service made me not want to return. The space was compact very much so like the parking lot. Some tables were shared and while we didn't mind, the waitlist had longer estimates for private tables. We were immediately given a bottle of water and four side dishes of kimchi, potato, radish and fish cakes. We had to ask for a water refill 3 times and we never received it. We asked for to go boxes 3 times and got it after the last request. We sat there twiddling our thumbs for someone to process our bill for 10 minutes. Nothing was cleared the entire meal. *Bulgogi: the marinade was on the blander side and the meat was dry. The mushrooms were the best part but there were more vegetables than meat. Strangely there was no rice offered with the entree. Small portion size. *Naeng Myun: cold buckwheat noodles with radish and Asian pear. Similarly small portion. The broth was bland and heavily depended on the vinegar and mustard. There was missing beefiness in the broth and toppings. The pear was the best part, added some sweetness *Kimchi Pancake: thin and savory. The dipping sauce was sweet and oniony. The pancake had lots of incorporated onion in the batter. The batter wasn't too heavy and had some mild kimchi flavoring. Their pancake has some crispiness without being too tough. None of the dishes impressed me and were executed better for cheaper at other Korean restaurants. The variety of banchan was limited and the struggles with parking and service wasn't worth this mediocre meal.

Yelp
The Gam-Ja-Tang was delicious. Between two people we ordered the medium size and were not able to finish all of it. Super flavorful soup and the bone had a decent amount of meat on it. Attentive staff members.
google avatar

Yelp
Big entrées + refillable banchan = enough for multiple meals. Met a girlfriend for lunch and we each ordered a "Personal" Hae Jang Guk/Spicy Pork Bone Soup (pork bone, baby Napa cabbage, potato pasta, green onion, red chili), which was a ton of food when served with rice and accoutrements. Neither of us needed dinner later that day! Even better, we didn't have to sacrifice quality for quantity - ingredients and flavors were exactly as they should be. Service was efficient and responsive if not particularly proactive, and the space clean and bright albeit chairs are way too close together for separate parties. Parking during lunch time even on a weekday was a nightmare, but that's not the restaurant's fault!

Yelp
So. Damn. Good. These might be fighting words, but Jomaru may be serving up the best Korean food in San Diego. Every meal here feels like home. So comforting, so warm, and so familiar. It tastes *almost* like mom's. My friends have told me that a pretty reliable litmus test for scouting out the best Korean restaurants is judging them by their kimchi. Good kimchi almost always equates to good food and boy oh boy is Jomaru's good. If one day they decide to jar it and sell it, I'll be the first in line. So far, my favorite dish has to be their Hae Jang Guk (Personal Spicy Pork Bone Soup). I'd say this is a pretty good alternative if you're coming alone or don't have people to share their signature Gam-Ja-Tang (Spicky Pork Bone Soup in Hot Pot) with. It features Pork Bone (literally some of the most tender, fall-off-the-bone meat you'll ever have), baby napa cabbage, potato pasta (sujebi- my fav!), green onion, and red chili. It's super rich, not too spicy, and feels like it could heal you with every sip. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
This place has its own private parking but very limited. We came on a Tuesday at 5 pm. We got lucky finding a parking spot right away. On our way out, the parking lot was full and people waiting to leave. We walked in at the restaurant and were seated right away/. The place was still empty. Only 2 other tables occupied. But by the time we left the restaurant, there was a waiting list. We ordered the gamjatang that can feed 2, tteokboki; and fried rice. The soup was very hearty. Pork was very tender and fall off the bones. Definitely something to come back to. It was delicious. Tteokboki was a little disappointing. It was dry and needed more sauce. The rice cake was a little to aldente for me. But taste was good. The fried rice was cooked in the same pot as the soup and the burnt rice at the bottom gave it a nutty taste to it. This place is definitely a great place to go back to. Especially, on a cold day

Yelp
Recommended by my sister. She likes this place more than I do. You need to come early (at least by 11am) to get a parking space. We ordered the galbi short ribs, corn cheese, and the Soy Braised Pork bone Stew with Vermicelli. The main dishes we ordered came with a bowl of rice. They need to have bigger plates to use for the Pork Bone Stew. They serve enough of the side dishes, which you can ask refills of the ones you like. The potato (side dish) would've been better if it was more tender. The place is casual. I gave this place 3-stars because for me the taste is just average. I don't see myself coming back here. I've had better tasting Korean food.

Yelp
* Gam-Ja-Tang (Spicy Pork bone soup) - 8.5/10 (the meat was SUPER tender & the broth was really rich. we loved all the veggies & potato pasta inside. however, the broth was not that spicy. hands down the meat was the star of the show & very delicious) * Fried Rice w/ Cheese - 8/10 (cheese pull went crazy, & it came with a nice show hehe. the portion however was a bit small)
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
Gam-ja-tang pork was delicious and fell off the bone- we got two larges plus ramen. Bon chon was alright. I wish there were more veggies in the bowl personally. We did have to wait 15 minutes for a table since we have a group of 6 but the Yelp Waitlist was super easy. We shared a table with strangers so it was a little tight but the service was good. They add a 18% service charge for parties of 6 or more and our server also mentioned it when brining the check, so no complaints here. The fried rice afterwards with the cheese was my favorite part lol. They torched the cheese and 10/10 would eat that again.

Yelp
Faith D. invited me to dinner, saying we were going to try this Korean hot pot. And I'm so glad I went as the food was soooo good. It's located next to Song Hak Korean BBQ and Steamy Pig in a small plaza area of foods on Convoy St in Kearny Mesa. There is a small parking lot that could be difficult to find a spot especially during lunch and dinner rush hours. We ordered a ton of food, and I'm glad we did as we were able to try a lot of different flavors. Everything we had was very authentic in terms of flavor profile. Sooooo good! We were given a variety of banchan as appetizers as we waited. Our favorites were the fish cake and bean sprouts. Cheese Corn - very creamy and beautiful cheese pull. Even after the cheese had gone cold, the cheese corn was still very good as the creaminess brought out its flavor profile. I was quite impressed as this specific dish usually won't be good after the cheese gets cold. Boochoojun - crispy on the outside and not stingy with the ingredients! There were a lot of proteins (shrimp and squid) in each bite which was delicious! Gamtajang - huge hot pot that could feed about 3-4 people with the amount of food in it. There was soooo much meat! It was very very flavorful and the meat was super tender where it fell off the bone! It wasn't too spicy despite how red the soup was but had a nice minor kick. Honestly the star of the show! One thing that surprised us was the potato they used as starch instead of tteoboki or noodles. I kept wondering where the starch was, and the potato pasta were all on the bottom LOL. Naengmyeon - very refreshing with the gamtajang. It had the signature pear to give it its sweetness with the vinegar and mustard on the side to add in. This is one of my favorite dishes to have especially on a hot summer day. It was Faith's first time trying this, so I was super excited for her to try it! Bo Ssam - super tender with a nice selection of items to wrap the bo ssam to eat with. This was one of the least impressible item in my opinion even though the pork was beautifully braised and cut. It was quite good, but I think the other dishes shined brighter. Overall, the restaurant is on the pricier side but the food here is exceptional! The flavors brought me back to Korea where I just recently came back from and made me want more. Definitely will be back in the future to try their other items and maybe get the gamtajang again, hehe.

Yelp
Paid by card. Jomaru is located in a small plaza and offers some parking. The parking lot is packed though so good luck (usual Convoy parking). They offer indoor seating only. I went on a weekend for dinner and was able to be seated within 5 minutes. I ordered the medium hot pot. It tasted pretty good but I was disappointed since there wasn't much toppings. This was my fault since I didn't know you had to add additional toppings (I was expecting something like Taiwanese hot pot). I also ordered the seafood pancake. For 2 people this was a lot of food and we didn't finish. Overall I would recommend this place and may go back to try with additional toppings.

Yelp
We got the Gam-Ja-Tang to share between two people, we also added vermicelli to the dish. There is quite a lot of food and we were both stuffed by the end of this. It wasn't too busy when we went but the waiter took a long time to get our rice and forgot one of our drinks. While there are several pork bones in the dish, there were not a lot of meat on them. I didn't particularly like the flavors to the dish, tasted a little dull especially the pork bone. It kind of taste like the pork bone was used for soup or something in another dish and then thrown in for this dish so it tasted a little bland even in the hot pot. But I really liked the potatos and veggies in the dish.

Yelp
I recently went to Jomaru while I was in SD and craving Korean food. It is a spacious restaurant and a nice place for a casual meal. We went on a weekday at lunch time and were able to get seated immediately, but the restaurant was already fairly busy. Service was prompt and friendly and we got our food in less than 10 minutes from sitting down. We ordered only the gamjatang to try. The soup was rich and flavorful, with tender chunks of meat that practically fell off the bone. I also appreciated the side dishes as they all were fresh and seasoned well. The portion was very generous and the picture doesn't do it justice. There were 6-7 large bones full of meat and we ended up not being able to finish before being stuffed. Highly recommend when you're craving a flavorful soup especially when the weather cools down!

Yelp
I have been to Jomaru three times now, and I can confidently say that I love this place. As a Korean, I feel that it is harder for me to find Korean restaurants that I actually like because I always compare it to the food I used to eat at home. But, I genuinely enjoy the food here. During my most recent visit, we ordered the kalguksu & bulgogi. They both were so delicious and well-seasoned. The portions for both were quite large as well--definitely dishes that can be shared. I also love the side dishes that they give you--such a staple for Korean restaurants. The service & atmosphere of this restaurant are also great. I do not think that I've had a bad experience here yet. I would definitely recommend this place to people in the San Diego area searching for some great Korean food.

Yelp
Ok... so we have been coming here for awhile. Years. Now today for lunch at 1130 to 1pm. The younger college age female server was terrible. Food was good, service ok until we had to pack up to leave. We needed soup togo containers for leftover hotpot and a Togo box for dry foods and left overs... She actually refused to give us a single box to take home our food. WTH ‍ ‍ ‍ We spend on average 100 to 150 dollars everytime we come here but this time this new female server refused to let me have a box? What is her problem? Management needs to talk to her and train her up. Because of this .10 cent box you have lost my families faith in your restaurant and we cannot come here anymore. You want to fight my wife and family over a box and not let us pack our leftovers that we paid for? Terrible service and Terrible mentality. You have lost us and our network of family and friends.

Yelp
Been to this place twice and let me just say, HOW DID I NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS PLACE SOONER? Sides are tasty and fresh, food is absolutely amazing, staff is friendly, and most importantly, it doesn't break the bank! In the two times I've been here I've gotten the same thing: Gamjatang, and the fried rice you can have after! The gamjatang is authentic and absolutely FILLED with food. Think of this as a flavorful soup with vegetables and meat. Order this for 3-4 adults and you'll be full and satisfied (with a side of rice too if you want!) After you finish with the soup, they ask you if you want them to make a fried rice in the pot that you had the soup in. And this fried rice just picks up all the flavoring of the soup. Just amazing. They also have an option to add cheese to this (definitely do!) Overall would definitely recommend coming here if you can.

Yelp
Came here with two friends on a weekday evening and had a wonderful meal!! Parking is a bit tenuous because it's an incredibly narrow and busy lot, but there is definitely street parking a block or two down if you don't feel like risking your rear bumper. We came for an early dinner so were seated immediately, but by the time we left, a line had formed outside. The restaurant is clean and spacious. Jomaru specializes in pork neck stew, which is massive tender pork neck chunks stewed in a spicy, fragrant, flavorful stew. You can pick your size and any toppings. We got the large size and got the cheese fried rice for the end. The food came out quickly and the stove was turned on. Our server was very sweet and helped us control the temperature so that things didn't burn or stick to the bottom of the pot. The pot is massive and the meat and veggies are piled high. There are both potato chunks and potato dumplings, which have an addictive, chewy-bouncy texture. To eat the stew, you take chunks of chopstick-tender meat and dip them into the provided wasabi sauce. The sting of wasabi is so good with the incredibly rich meat, and prevents it from tasting too fatty. You can also have your meat alongside their delicious radish or cabbage kimchi. For a palette cleanser, have a stir-fried fish cake, or a piece of sweet soy-braised potato. I think the Large size was $55 and more than enough for me and two others to share. We ate what felt like an unbelievable amount of meat. Every time I thought we were done, we'd unearth another piece! Once you have finished eating the contents of the stew, that is when the server will make the fried rice. We opted for the cheese version but to be honest I think it would have been even tastier without. They basically use the grease from the stew, add seaweed flakes, and allow it to sit on the stone pot for a few minutes for that perfect crispy bottom. Be sure to get in your arm workout and scrape every last grain of that flavor-soaked rice into your mouth! Overall I absolutely loved Jomaru. It's definitely going to be one of my go-tos for a fun meal with a group of 2-4 people. Honestly if you split the price of the larger size stews, the price per person is pretty reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food you're getting!

Yelp
As a hot pot lover, Jomaru did not disappoint. We came here on a weeknight and were seated right away. Each table is equipped with an electric burner in the center- perfect for sharing. For the three of us, we shared: Gam-Ja-Tang -spicy pork bone soup (5/5) - we ordered the medium size, which was meant for two people to share. The soup was hardy filled with fall off the bone pork, baby napa, enoki mushrooms, and potato. Seafood Knife Cut Noodles (5/5) - The knife cut noodle were served in a clear broth and topped with seafood (crab, shrimp, mussels , etc.) & mushrooms. This clear soup provides a good break from the heartiness of the pork stew. In addition, the banchan were so delicious. My favorites were the marinated potatoes and kimchi.

Yelp
If you're craving Korean food, this place is a hidden gem worth exploring. We ordered the Gamjatang, a hot pot made with pork bones, vegetables, and a variety of spicy seasonings. This savory and spicy dish has such a rich broth flavor and comforting qualities, the meats cook quickly in the bubbling broth, absorbing all of the flavors. Love at every bites. The banchan provided, including kimchi, pickled radishes, and seasoned vegetables, are perfect accompaniments. They provide a refreshing contrast to the richness of the hot pot and are essential for balancing out the meal. Service is great, with staff eager to explain the hot pot process and ensure that your meal is cooked to perfection. They're attentive, but allow you the space to enjoy the experience at your own pace. It's a great spot for groups and family.

Yelp
If you're craving soup with a group of friends then this is the place to go! They're well known for their gam-ja-tang. It's a pork based soup that has pork that falls off the bone. We only order one pot of this and nothing else and leave very satisfied. The flavors of the soup is amazing and it comes in a big pot perfect for sharing with a group. The sides are here also delicious. Service is very good and quick. They also have a button to call for service.

Yelp
New Korean spot I tried with my family and we were impressed with the food. Didn't end up trying the hot pot but all of the dishes we ordered were great. We got seated quickly but our server was a little rude when we were ordering. The Naeng-Myun was good but I wish it had some type of protein with it since it was only the cold noodles. The galbi was amazing and the best I've had in a long time. The flavor was on point, so juicy and the portion size was good as well. The dumpling soup could have had a little more flavor but it hit the spot. The food was really good and at a cheap price as well. Just wish our server wasn't as rude in the beginning.

Yelp
Walked in last night during a chilly evening. This was the cozy meal to hit the spot. Seated quickly around 7pm on a weeknight. Shares a parking lot with Steamy Piggy and other popular restaurants, but at least there is spill over street parking in addition to this crowded lot. Between 2 people, we shared the BosSam + Soon Dubu (combo) and the Personal size Hae Jang Guk. Both were absolutely delicious and the appetizers are refillable if you ask for them. The fishcake cold dish was a bit flavorless in comparison to what I've enjoyed in the past, but everything else was good, especially their kimchi. Service wasn't bad either for a place on Convoy. Our waiter checked in multiple times and the food came out quickly, stews still boiling aggressively. Cold water is self-serve with a pitcher, and you can ask for hot water instead too. The Combo is so convenient if you don't have enough people or appetite to order the big BosSam dish. In general I feel like their portions are either a personal size, or super shareable for a big party, so there's a good range. BosSam pork slices melt in your mouth, soft and fatty, with the perfect subtle flavor and crunchy compliments (cold cabbage, shrimp paste, fresh garlic, etc) to wrap them in. Soon Dubu was pretty basic. Comforting soybean flavor, bean sprouts, chewy interesting textures. Speaking of garlic, the Hae Jang Guk was SO flavorful. We wanted to do the bigger one, but opted for the personal size instead. It was still plenty of food. The flavor of this hot soup is so addicting - I think because there is a huge chunk of minced garlic on top of the soup (in case you want to take some off), veggies, hearty pork bone broth, fall off the bone meat. After taking a sip of the Hae Jang Guk, my Soon Dubu immediately tasted way less flavorful. The combos are such a bang for your buck, especially if you have leftovers. THANK YOU, PAST SELF! Can't wait to come back and try more.

Yelp
Really, really good gamjatang. Probably one of the best Korean food options in SD. Definitely look through the add-ons and pick your favorite(s). It's not hot pot in the sense that you're cooking the pork at the table, but you do wait for the starches/veggies to heat up. It's meant to be shared, i.e. minimum 2 people. Service is good! I come back whenever I'm craving gamjatang :)

Yelp
Underrated, not getting the attention it needs, very authentic! Pro -Comfort Korean food -Gam ja tang Large! (Great for 3-4 people) -Banchan. Their house kimchi is sooo good. -Usually have open tables, wait is not long Cons -Staff can be very busy at times, not that many waiters -Parking situation during prime time

Yelp
If you're craving authentic Korean hot pot in San Diego, Jomaru Korean Hot Pot is a solid choice. The food was flavorful and comforting, with a rich, spicy broth packed with ingredients like kimchi, enoki mushrooms, perilla leaves, and tender meats. The side dishes were fresh and complemented the meal well. Service was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The environment was just okay--functional but nothing particularly special in terms of ambiance.

Yelp
Recently visited Convoy and had to stop by for some Korean food! Ox bone soup This was really good with the rice and it was such a comforting dish. The owner here is super nice and showed me the correct way to eat it (with the kimchi) and I very much enjoyed it! Bibimbap YUMMMM I got it in the hot stone and the flavors in this was immaculate. I got the beef and tofu added and wow it was so good with everything paired together. It made for the perfect bite everytime. Hea Jang Ramen The broth they use is delicious. I enjoyed this dish as well and soemthing about Korean food that's just so so comforting. It feels like a warm hug hehe. Seafood Noodles The texture of the noodles were great and I've never had anything like this before but I love the seafood medley in it. Also there was plenty of banchan here so your stomach will be happy! The owner here is so wholesome and very helpful as well!

Yelp
Tried the soup, it was pretty good, tender meat. Their galbi was also decent Kimichi was good too.

Yelp
Hands down the best pork neck stew aka gamjatang in SD. This is rather hard to get right and they knocked it out the park. Just a tip be patient and allow the stew to boil and reduce to simmer . Do NOT eat the potatoes until the end. They reduce and thicken the stew. Galbi was also perfectly on point. Only issue is parking is an absolute nightmare

Yelp
If you're looking for some comfort Korean food this is the place for you! I really liked the banchan they had, it tasted fresh so we got it refilled a few times. The Gam-ja-tang large was definitely enough for 4 people, it was super filling and tasty! We ordered the cheesy fried rice afterwards, which they make with all your leftover from the Gam-ja-tang and it hit the spot. My favorite thing had to be the Bo-Ssam. The mix of the pork and veggies was so good. Service was quick, and our party of 7 got seated right away for lunch on a Saturday. Ambiance is a cute/casual.

Yelp
First time here and was pleased with the service. It was fast, staff was accommodating, friendly. The resto is not that big, but pleasant and airy. The Jam ga tang hot pot was so good! The portion is definitely more like for 3 people. I was worried about the spice level but it was tolerable. I want to say level 2-3. The banchan are delicious! My sister got bibimbap and I liked that the rice was separate and the sauce has the right amount of sweetness and spice to it. The vegetables looked really fresh and appetizing.

Yelp
Convoy has really come up since the days I was at UCSD! I've been here twice and both times hit the spot. Soy braised pork stew and vermicelli: We ordered this the first time since it was just my husband and me with our toddler, and we thought it would be less spicy for our toddler. We probably should've read that it comes with jalapeños, so PSA it is sweet but still spicy. That was our bad, but it was still tasty! Gamjatang: Served with a plenty of pork bones, and the meat was fall off the bone tender. Def add the ramen and cheese fried rice for after. You may be too full to eat the rice for that meal but it makes for great leftovers. Bossam: The pork here was also very tender and buttery and served with the standard mixture of cabbage, perilla, kimchi, garlic, jalapeños, etc. It also came with tofu, which tbh I didn't really know how to eat with the bossam. The portions are generous and our very Korean friend complimented everything, so that must be a testament to their food. Expect a wait, at least during weekend dinner hours.

Yelp
Upon walking in, Jomaru had a very clean, bright, & airy atmosphere that I immediately appreciated. Plateware, silverware, & food dishes were all so clean & shiny. I loved that! Our service was from a lovely lady named Reyna that helped us decide on our entree/sides, plus served us our first bowl & a later one. Very sweet lady with perfect hospitality. My boyfriend & I shared the Gam-Ja-Tang (spicy pork bone soup in hot pot + got 2 orders of fried pork dumplings. The dumplings were perfectly crispy & so delicious. In our hot pot, the meat was quite tender & certainly falling off the bone nicely. Wonderful flavors, especially with their extra sauces on the side. We were able to eat all of our delicious sides, appetizer, & (medium) hot pot together. We didn't finish all of the broth because we were quite full. We can have a large appetite, but this was satiating. Even had space to walk somewhere for dessert, but would've been fine without. Really looking forward to coming back here again!

Yelp
I came here during lunch and was very happy with my experience. The employees were very friendly and were quick to bring out your order. I ordered the personal Spicy Pork Bone Soup (Hae Jang Guk) and I loved how (temperature) hot the soup was. It was still boiling when they brought the dish to me. There was plenty of meat on the bone and it was just falling off the bone. The flavor from the soup was great and not too spicy despite the color. Their side dishes and kimchi were amazing as well!

Yelp
I'm a soup lover, I can have soup any day even when it's scorching. We came during lunch time and it wasn't busy at all and we're lucky to have scored parking in this hectic small lot. The service was tentative and as we sat and wait, the food did not take long to come. We ordered the Gam Ja Tang. Spicy Pork Bone Soup. That was what I was craving and waiting for others to be available to eat out as it's a huge portion otherwise for 2 people. I was very excited to finally try this place and it did not disappoint. The bone was nice and big, the meats were plenty and the soup was flavorful as expected. Once some of the bones were out of the way we asked to add ramen. There's really not much soup unfortunately. I wonder if we could have asked for hot water or something? Definitely can't wait to come back. Yummy.

Yelp
This place had really good service. The soups are very home style and you get a ton of sides. I ordered the hae jang guk which lasted me 2 meals even though it's a 1 person size. Then I ordered the gamja tang which is pork based, and this gamja tang amounted to portion for 3. Nothing mind blowing but it's nice home style comfort food.

Yelp
Been here 4x and I can't get over how delicious and awesome this place is. Taking your leftover pot and having them make a fried rice with it to go home was genius! Great customer service, delicious fresh and unique tasting good. My only complaints are that parking is a mess but when you get a spot it is well worth it! For sure will be back.

Yelp
First time & we had a great experience. We tried the bossam, gam-ja tang & fried rice. Blossom was good. Gam-ja tang had a good spicy kick. Fried rice was ehhhh. Service was really quick, the server was very prompt and nice. Ambiance is a nice spot to chill w/ friends but the parking lot sucks. We had to park around the corner bc it was packed.

Yelp
Hidden spot!! Very different from any other Korean restaurant in SD for what they offer. Parking lot is smaller than any other place in convoy... so good luck with that. Got seated right away and got the Gam Ja Tang ( potato pork stew) it was about $40-45 for two people. They do come out pretty quickly and they do come out already cooked. Just keep it cooking till the broth is all dried up and use that to put rice and make some fried rice in the end. I wish it was little bit more spicy but the meat was tender.. great for bigger group for sharing too. Service was fast, their side dishes were good. would come back again.

Yelp
Finally trying gamjatang at Jomaru and it did not disappoint. Lots of meat on the bone, deep flavor broth. This was more than enough for 3 people. My favorite part is the fried rice at the end. So good! So filling. We left with a happy belly. Only downside is trying to find parking.

Yelp
Great spot for our group! We got the large Gom-Ja-Tang and side dish. It was plenty for us 5 girls and a great value.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Friday to catch their lunch special! There wasn't too many people in the restaurant at 12 but the lot was full. Parking is a little hard (it is convoy after all). I really like the potato banchan! It's super good. The seolleongtang was also good for its price! For $12 you get the soup, slices of beef, glass noodles, and a bowl of rice. The soup was also super flavorful and light. I would definitely come back to try some of their hotpot items!

Yelp
Overall the food was good, but the service wasn't. Came here around 9pm (about an hour before closing) and were told last call was in 30 minutes. Standards sides such as kimchi, fish cakes, kimchi potato, etc. were given to us prior to receiving our entrees. About more than halfway through eating our kimchi, I asked a server if we could get more to make it before last call and was told "finish it first then I'll give you more." I was completely taken aback, but politely agreed and FINISHED THE REST OF THE KIMCHI. She shortly returned and I pointed to the kimchi (with a smile since there was food in my mouth) to signal that we were finished and got ignored. If it weren't for another server that walked by and asked if we needed anything, we would've never gotten more kimchi. I understand that we shouldn't be wasteful, but I deserve to get what I order and pay for. Absolutely disrespectful of her to assume that I wouldn't finish a side and not give me something I want to order. I wasn't going to write this review since the food (bibimbap and bulgogi) was delicious, but after reading other reviewers having rude servers as well, I must speak my truth.
