I had to deliberate a fair bit before deciding on a rating here as I had two completely different opinions on the two food items I tried here: Nyonya Asam Laksa and Baba Cendol. The Nyonya Asam Laksa was great, it was really tasty and the sourness was just nice. The standard still remained equally good compared to ten over years back when I first tried it. However, the Cendol was a huge disappointment. It had no fragrance from the coconut milk or gula melaka at all. The standard of this was a far cry from that of the past. Seats are limited so expect to queue during peak hours. Ordering and collection is done via self service. Prices are honestly quite steep for the portion and ambience here. Overall, I wouldn't make the effort to queue but I may still return for their asam laksa if there is no wait.

Radiant Judgement

Google
The worst food shop in Jonker street. They don't even deserve 1 star from Google. Food quality- Not much ingredient given. Asam Laksa food taste below average. In fact Aeon Jusco(D Laksa) Asam Laksa taste way better. Service- Emtremely poor as lady boss always scream at you when she taking your order. The feeling like you owe them money. No manner and countesy to deal with value customer or no knowledge to run business Environment- Even with extra tables and seats. The man boss always request to share table with others. In fact, also no knowledge to run business and poor customer service. Coming this shop will ruin your holiday mood. Highly not recommend and rate at - 5 star for food, service and atmosphere.

I saw a long line of local Chinese customers outside, so I decided to follow the crowd and try it out. Personally, I found the dessert quite average — basically shaved ice topped with jelly, syrup, and fruits. But it seems to be a favorite among the local community, which I totally respect — taste is subjective after all. The interior space is interesting too. They display and sell old banknotes from many different countries. I even spotted a bill from my own country — one I don’t even have myself!

I have high hope before coming read so many recommendation online. Service can be more friendlier. Maybe the aunties are tired about all the queries from the curious tourists. The more unfortunate part is food are only OK level to my liking.

There's outdoor, main entrance and near stall area seating. We sat near the stall, which is quite nostalgic. Have a fan, therefore not so hot. They accept quite a few payment mode that are captured in my picture. I used TNG. Baba Durian chendol, durain is very diluted, so I advise going with the Baba chendol will not get dissapointed. People are friendly. Overall, it is good to try.

Last came here was before COVID pandemic. Food quality has dropped quite bad. The laksa was full with shrimp stock base flavour back then.

Google
The asam laksa was amazing - the level of spice and flavour was just right. Noodles were also cooked well and were not too hard nor too soft. The chendol, on the other hand, was incredibly disappointing; there was no fragrance as there was no gula melaka or coconut taste, and the sweetness seemed to stem from white sugar. To summarise, I would rate the asam laksa a 5 star and the chendol as a 1 star.

Yelp
Good, cheap eats in the middle of Jonker Walk. The baba laksa is delicious but spicy for the uninitiated. For the kids get the Fish Ball Gravy noodles which is a tasty, dry noodle dish! Finish it off with ice kachang, multiple varieties. Only take credit for orders more than 50RM.

Yelp
Always crowded but that is a good sign! Food here is delicious and the durian cendol is a must try.

Yelp
After hearing from everyone in town that Jonker Street Stall 88 was THE place to get Malakan Chendol, we had to try it. They close early, so we ended up coming back three days in a row to try and get in. Finally got in on the last day, around 1pm. (Pro tip, they close earlier on weekdays, around 2-3pm). Sadly, we thought it was super overhyped. First, if you don't know what Chendol is, it's a Malaysian dessert made of finely shaved ice, with fresh coconut milk, palm sugar syrup, red bean, and green bean gelatin. Sometimes fresh fruits like durian are added. You stir it up and the ice melts into this sweetened soup, that is just out of this world. The #1 Baba Chendol is the simplest, classic Chendol. It was not the best one we had in Melaka or Singapore. The palm sugar was a little overpowering in strength and amount, lending to an over-sweetened dessert. The coconut milk was also not super fresh (tasted canned) and so that rich, milky texture was lost a bit. There's two main seating areas - a front section and then some back chairs nearer to the Chendol cart (inside the building in the back room). It's a large space and always crowded.

Yelp
Prepare to be a vulture when it comes to securing a seat in this place. Always crowded, you're left to fend for yourself as it is self-service and self-seated. You literally have people hanging around eyeing which table is close to being done and hovering so that they can plop down when the other patrons get up. Although a bit hotter, there's also a back room with some seating where you order your meal. Their laksas are HUGE and well worth your money. They're super tasty, spiciness definitely manageable (which was a main concern of mine). Unfortunately didn't get to try their cendols when I was here but the laksa was great.

Yelp
If you have been to Jonker Street Malacca, you may know about Jonker 88. They have the most famous cendol in Malacca. During weekend and public holiday, it isn't difficult to see the crowd at Jonker 88. I normally order the basic Cendol, around RM3-RM4, I can't remember the exact amount but it is roughly cost below RM5 each. If you love fruit flavor, they are also selling durian, honeydew etc. Topped with gula Melaka is the reason why cendol is flavorful. In a sunny day, drinking a bowl of cendol is the most blessing thing to have. Apart from the cendol stall, laksa is also another well-known food that the crowd comes for. I don't eat laksa, so I don't know how it taste like. But the laksa is sweet-smelting and its appearance look like it is so delicious. By the way, Jonker 88 is totally self-service restaurant. You have to order, pay and take your own food yourself at the counter. Seats are many but always run out of seats due to the crowd. Thus, you may see a lot of people standing nearby and eating there. Jonker 88 is opening daily; however, try your best to go earlier so that you can avoid the crowd.

Yelp
Jonker 88 is a Malacca food hub that both foreign and local tourist go to for some durian cendol, nasi lemak, and nyonya style laksa. As a local tourist, I much enjoyed their nyonya laksa despite it being rather spicy. As for the durian cendol, I've had better ones. I'd much preferred if Jonker 88 uses actual durian flesh instead of durian flavoured syrup topping. The restaurant is clean and you can get your food immediately. They follow a self-service system where you will have to go to the back to order your food, pay, collect your food on the spot, and finally bringing it over to your table.

Yelp
When you're in Malacca, Chendol is a must to have and everyone have their own favourite place to enjoy a bowl of icy cold dessert. During my recent trip to Malacca, Joe and I stumbled upon a museum café named Jonker88. It was a hot day, and we just wanted a place to rest our legs; but little did we realized that we had stepped foot into one of the famous Chendol place in Malacca. They offer some of the traditional Baba-Nyonya delicacies such as Nyonya Asam Laksa, Baba Laksa, Baba Chendol , Durian Chendol and many more. I tried their Baba Chendol and it was one yummy! The Chendol was generously drizzled with the palm sugar a.k.a Gula Melaka, and it was so much that I was able to lick them off my spoon. This is definitely a good way to cool you down, while walking around Jonker Street in Malacca. I tried their Baba Laksa Kahwin Nyonya Asam Laksa, and it was really good! The acidity in the Asam Laksa gave a little kick to the aromatic Baba Laksa, which made the dish much more appetizing. The place is not spacious, so do go there earlier; or else, be prepared to queue up under the hot sun.

Yelp
Food is good. Price is worth it. Worth the long queue. Just that customers need to be more patient.

Yelp
Whenever I visit Malacca, this is one place that I must go. The number of times that I have been to Jonker 88 is still not enough to satisfy the craving for the laksa that they serve. It is also a tourist attraction, so do expect a crowd if you're stopping by for meal. And in terms of parking, do not attempt to park nearby the shop. Most parking lots are located out of the Jonker Street. Be prepare to walk. Over the years, their laksa has maintained their standard and quality. At the same time, the durian cendol that they serve here is superb. Drowned with gula melaka and on top with durian, it is a perfect dessert on a hot hot day. It is all self-service but they do prepare the food pretty fast.

Yelp
I was lost the first time I looked for this shop. I still remember the hardship finding this one little red shade shop over here. That was the only clue gave by my friend when he left me finding for this place (while he already get his order inside) *cries* Located in one of the shop lot along the Jonker Street area, can you imagine me walking from one end to another just to locate this shop with tiny and hardly notified red shade (because it was quite dull already)? I proudly announced - that I managed to find it. Yeah! (after more than 3 times rotating back and fro in front the EXACT stall). Anyhow, let the bygones be bygones. I am super grateful that I get the chance to try the foods here. My friend said the curry laksa was nice. So we decided to lepak here one day. This is a multiracial ethnics style of shop/restaurant (I'm not sure how do I classify this) because - you'll find varies people of different races inside and you'll learn to share tables with strangers inside. Be it foreigners, Indians, Chinese, Malays. One of the cool experience to me. The space inside is quite limited, but it's not an excuse for unreasonable services. Just so you know, every thing is self service in this Jonker 88. Here's are the steps : 1) Queue for your turn to order 2) Look for the menus glued to the cashier's glass 3) Order your menu and wait for it to be ready (The food is prepared right in front of you in a super quick time!) 4) Pay, find your seats and dig in! Though it is limited space and noisy inside, I personally think that this shop has it's own original uniqueness. I tried its nasi lemak, my friend ate mee kari and curry laksa, everything is finger licking good!

Yelp
I really think this place is overhyped. If you're going to wait more than 45 minutes for this place, please just do your stomach the courtesy and go to the nearest place that sells laksa. Jonker 88 is definitely good, but the wait is long and the seating is scarce--making the experience not as ideal. Unless you enjoy being cramped and waiting in line, seek laksa elsewhere! I know everyone raves about the chendul, but keep your expectations in check. I didn't quite like the taste--I guess my taste is more American than I thought!

Yelp
I have been here a couple of times, mostly when there is NO crowd because I personally don't think it's worth lining up under the hot sun dangerously beside the narrow road. I have tried the Laksa, it is non spicy despite the orangey red color, quite creamy and broth is thick enough and tasty. It is rich in flavor and a little oily but nonetheless it is worth the splurge sometimes. Served with shredded cucumbers, fishball and fuchuk! I have also tried the cendols, the original didn't make a big impression as I've had better ones. The durian cendol is however quite nice, I like the pieces of real durian flesh and it is no joke for those who aren't lovers of durian. However, I find that there is an inconsistency on the quality! The environment is nonetheless lovely and authentic, minimally touched genuine Melakan house. Be dressed in comfortable clothing and get your sunscreen on if you're concern bout the sun cause there's no shades for ya! Expect enthusiastic crowds from different countries.

Yelp
We arrived at about 7.30pm and most things are sold out except for S9, which is a bowl of very spicy Asam prawn noodles and some simple noodle bowls. Place is crowded and the food is very average. There are plenty of good food options in Melaka - don't waste your time here.
