NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"If you’ve ever found yourself stumbling towards pizza at 2:43am on a Friday night on the Lower East Side, you have a new option in the neighborhood. Jonny’s Pizza is open until 3:30am on the weekends, they’ve got an unmissable bright green neon sign, and we’ve got our eyes pointed directly at their pepperoni vodka slice." - will hartman

We went here for lunch on a Wednesday at 12:30. It smelled great! We ate at one of the booths. The food came out fast and was fresh. The calamari Fritti was so good. I didn't expect that! Also tried a slice which is pretty much the size of half of a 1/4 of a pizza!!! It was delicious! I had the Johnny's salad with their house dressing. It was great. I didn't care for the salami because it's cured and doesn't taste processed like I'm used to. LoL But my husband loved it! The salad was also huge. We ended up taking our food home and had enough for dinner!

As a proud New Yorker, I do not claim this pizzeria. I was excited to try it and chose to ignore the negative reviews, thinking I’d give it a fair shot myself but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. I ordered a half mushroom pizza and the other half with chicken, pineapple, and black olives. The order was completely wrong (see attached photo). They clearly don’t understand what “half and half” means pineapple was spread across the entire pie! From the moment I walked in, I sensed something was off. Two staff members were working, both looking visibly unhappy. No one greeted me or the customer behind me. As I waited, I saw one of the workers handling chicken with her bare hands, dipping it into sauce. When she noticed me watching, she suddenly switched to using tongs. It felt very unhygienic. The other employee said nothing to me when I gave my name for pick-up. She silently scanned the pizza, I paid, and left , not a single word exchanged. On top of that, the floor was filthy (see attached photo). Sadly, I got food poisoning after eating the pizza. The dough was undercooked, the tomato sauce was uneven and tasted like raw paste, and the chicken had a strange plastic-like texture. This is a disgrace to pizza, especially to anything claiming to be “New York style.” As a New Yorker, I absolutely do not claim this place. I can’t wait to get back to NYC next week and enjoy the real thing.

Google
Came in and ordered their supreme pizza. Was pleased on all of the toppings added - no skimping! We ordered and the food came 15-20 minutes after. I loved the crust on the pizza, and the cheese pull was incredible (which I had pics!).

Google
This is our second time getting carry out and this spot doesnt disappoint. Its nice having a classic Pizza spot in an area where everyone is doing fusion stuff and have nuts/nut products everywhere. The flavors are fantastic and they do not skimp on the filling- you can see how big the meat stromboli and meatball calzone are!

Google
I was skeptical. Everyone claims to have N.Y. style pizza. This was the closest pizza to N.Y. pizza. This is my favorite pizza place now. I grew up on NY pizza and if I saw this place in NY, I would go. Thanks for a great pizza. The large pizza is truly a large. And if you ask for extra cheese, you are getting extra cheese! I ordered take out. But the restaurant in Aubrey is beautiful. 3 weeks later Came in for some slices today. For the true NY pizza lovers, look at all that delicious pizza oil! You want to know good pizza, when you can see through the paper plate it was sitting on!

Google
Cheese didn’t stay on the slices, just slid off. Extremely floppy. Wasn’t cut well. Seemed like it sat for a while and wasn’t fresh. Maybe it was reheated. Dave would rate this place a 4. Tiramisu was still frozen…

My wife and I tried this place out for the first time today for lunch. And I must say, never again will I spend a dime with this establishment. I ordered our food to go, garlic knots to share and we both got Stromboli's. I got the meat one and supreme for her. I was waited on by who I assume was either the Manager or owner but he was rude. I was asked to wait and told it will take 8 to 10 minutes, no problem, I got my receipt and waited in my car after 10 minutes had passed I stepped back in to retrieve my order and the manager or owner whoever he was said it was coming out hot and fresh. I was then giving one fresh item and the other ice cold that had been sitting in a heatless window probably since they opened up. There wasn't even an attempt to place it in the oven to heat it back up. And as I was walking out of the door clearly checking my food because I heard the cook tell the manager to give me the older food from the heatless window. The staff including the manager or owner started laughing about it together as I'm walking out of the door. I could have asked them to remake it especially after having to wait for fresh food and paying 37$ and some change. Instead I decided to write this review and make sure I don't recommend this establishment to anyone I know.

Google
It was delicious. So I consider myself a bit of a pizza snob. Yes, from NYC, I can say that with confidence. This pizza is legit and consistent. It all started with just a slice to go. In the last 6 months in the area, I've eaten here 7, maybe 9 times. And i have not been disappointed. I've had all my favorites, including the Sicilian. No joke, solid! And I had a few buddies over, and when I said pizza, they weren't enthusiastic. But I said trust me. Not only did we have two large (meat / supreme), but two of my boys went to get a pie for their family. Just a suggestion. Cut the salami up in the salad. That large round is hard to eat when you have a folded slice in one hand and just a fork in the other. Oh, if it makes it to the next day. Just as good, best breakfast.

Yelp
Good pizza, but definitely had better, good service but maybe need a couple extra hands, can get backed up.

Yelp
The food here was pretty solid overall. The wings were super good--crispy with a great buffalo sauce. The garlic bread was solid, and the pizza had a nice New York-style crust with decent sauce. However, the service was a major letdown. I arrived five minutes after my scheduled pickup time, but my order wasn't even close to ready. Worse, every employee behind the counter was on their phone instead of working. I ended up waiting 30 minutes past my pickup time, and some items hadn't even been started when I arrived. If the service were better, this could easily be a four-star spot, especially since I'm always looking for good non-chain pizza in North Dallas. But with the staff completely checked out, it's hard to recommend.

Yelp
This place used to be good. The pizza now is garbage. Undercooked. If you pick up a slice it wilts. This is the furthest from NY pizza there is.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. The pizza is decent. I look at it as a decent neighborhood pizza parlor. The service is always quick I usually get in and out in about 10 minutes. The pizza is pretty consistent as far flavor. The tomato sauce is tasty. I've come to ask for extra since without thus request I feel like it needs more. The crust is good very edible if you like the crust. The cheese is on the pizza is okay. It's an average slice that's worth a revisit if you're nearby and looking for sliced pizza. I'm from Brooklyn and I know a great NY pizza. This isn't is but that doesn't mean it's bad either. The prices is about $4 a slice including toppings which isn't bad either.

Mark W.

Yelp
The pizza in Texas. If you like New York style, this is the place to go. By the slice or the hole pie, plus sandwiches, pastas, stromboli and other Italian baked goods. The staff have always been friendly and dining in is nice. If I lived closer I would try everything on the menu, but since I am a half hour away I go only when I crave the pizza. I have never left less than over stuffed.

Yelp
Been eating here since we moved to Aubrey. It's progressively gotten worse and worse. Service stinks, pizza is not that good anymore, there's no system for pick up, I was overcharged twice, the sauce is a little too salty, they added a $1.00 technology fee ? to their orders and I think it's time for us to say good bye to Jonny's. With all of the development going on with 380, I'm sure a new pizza place will open in the near future so until then, I'll be living a Jonny's free life.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
For an average pizza it's fine. However, the texture of the cheese was chewy so I don't think they use whole milk mozzarella. The crust is good, but the pizza is way too flimsy and not cooked enough in the center like a real New York Brooklyn style pizza. The sauce was very flavorful, but you need extra sauce.

Jeff H.

Yelp
The calamari is to die for as are many of the pizzas we tried. Highly recommend them.
google avatar

Yelp
Jonny's is a great place right up the street. Pizza is amazing! The baked lasagna is a must! And the little bread balls are to die for.

Yelp
Nestled on the corner of a strip of shops with a SBUX is a new NY Style Pizza spot, I've seen it driving down tollway several times and decided to try it for lunch. There are pies ready, and you can buy by the slice $5 and it takes about 2 minutes to warm them up and bring them to your table. First off the space is very nice, clean, well designed; there is a bar opposite the kitchen that can seat about 8-10 people. Couple of booths and some tables and chairs. It's set up more for takeout than dine in. I got a meat lovers and pepperoni slice & a drink. Came in slightly under $14; I realize food got expensive, but sheesh......now let's talk about the pizza. The dough is good, like eat it all up good, but not grimaldi good. Just enough flop to the pizza, plenty of toppings that hold up well. the pizza is above average; but not spectacular. You can get 2 slices and a drink down the road at Costco for $5......i May come back to order a large pie for the family to get their feedback. For me it's a solid 3 spot due to value for $$.

Steve M.

Yelp
This place was awesome! If you're looking for true authentic NY pizza this is your spot. The wings are out of this world. The customer service is amazing! We were greeted with a smile and the cashier was always checking on us. Definitely felt the love! Will be coming back :)

Jonathon D.

Yelp
The pizza is good, but not worth the hassle. Tonight I ordered take-out and got home to find the wrong order. I returned to the restaurant and the person behind the counter argued with me rather than remake the order. Things got heated and I'm never returning to this place. Calling your customer a liar is never good for business. Cheating your customer is never good for business either. I'll be eating pizza long after this place is gone and forgotten.

Yelp
I asked for a breaded chicken breast with my chicken Alfredo (in place of grilled chicken) and I was told "we only have grilled chicken". So I asked for whatever they use in the chicken parm knowing it was at the very least a breaded mystery meat. She said it's grilled chicken. So I said "you put grilled chicken in your chicken parm?" Woman on the phone said "yes, we only use grilled chicken." And so I ordered a chicken parm sub... paint me green and call me a pickle... is that... breaded chicken? Either I was lied to or she doesn't know what breaded chicken is. Both are issues.

Yelp
The food and conversation is always good!!! Closest thing to NY/NJ pizza you can buy here in TX.

Yelp
I must be desperate for pizza so I keep using this place. Ordered via Jonny's website. They use Chow Now which uses Door Dash unbeknownst to me. Door Dash is awful in this area and I would have just went and picked it up had I known this was the courier. Low and behold, over an hour passes by and through tracking I saw 3 different drivers pick up and then drop off the order. I called the restaurant and a very smug and attitudinal "manager" named Ashley told me it was picked up and that I had to call Door Dash to figure out where the order is. I told her that I had no interest in doing that since I ordered off Jonny's website. She basically told me, awe well, there is nothing we can do. I also explained that I would pick it up but I wanted the delivery fee back. She said I had to still call door dash for a refund. I said...couldn't you just credit me the $8 and call it a day? She continued to not listen to me and me very argumentative. Ashley even got loud with me. Never once offered an apology, or any options that were customer service friendly. Only what she can't do. At no point was I disrespectful or loud. When I called the number she gave me, it took 20 minutes for them to pickup. Also, it was not door dash, it was chow now. They said they had to call door Dash!!! What the heck???? All this because Ashley couldn't provide an $8 refund of the delivery fee. I would have came and picked up the order ( they would have remade it since a driver allegedly did pick it up). AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. Oh, and they blocked my number ... Jonny - If you're reading this, I've been a customer since you've opened and have given you several chances even after receiving poor service and horribly made food. I'd really love you to contact me regarding your manager Ashley. She seems to have given me the "wrong" number for you when I asked for It. Also would love to see how you make this right.

Yelp
Things have just been going downhill constantly. Granted they're working against staffing shortages but 2hr delivery times, AND still showing up late, with cold pizza is not acceptable. In addition, the staff is rude, they handle their filthy phones when touching food, etc, etc. I kept trying to give them grace over the last several months, but it looks like I'm going to have to start ordering elsewhere.

Yelp
Quality and quantity has really gone down in this place. The pizzas are now sub-par The appetizers specifically the fried calamari quality and quantity is really bad. $13.95 for truly nothing. The chicken wings taste old and dry. It's sad but they lost my business.

M L.

Yelp
Ordered pizza and some other items from Johnny's in Aubrey. They didn't get the order right (left things out). This happens more often than not, so I finally decided to call and say something. Upon calling, the manager didn't immediately apologize and offer to make it right, but instead he made excuses that he is "training new employees" and "too busy" himself to make sure they do things right. Exactly how can you consider what you are doing "training" if it doesn't include actual quality checks because you are "too busy"? I would say the manager is the one that needs training. You don't make excuses to a customer, you apologize for the mistake and offer to make it right. Period. Why it is wrong is your problem, not mine.

Rob S.

Yelp
Dope experience. Arrived for a pick up order and noticed that we ordered the wrong size....after the pizza was made. After realizing the mistake, I asked due to our fault, could they possibly refund us this pizza so we could order the correct size but if not was more than willing to pay the difference, and they did it!! It was no fault of theirs but they made it right. Great customer service. The pizza here is always amazing. Highly recommend this place and now have even more of a reason to come!!

Yelp
Service. I ask someone what it what was the difference between Stromboli and Calson and he wanted to dumb it up for me to understand it, and then he gets offended that I said never mind and I walked out because I would not put up with his condescending behavior, dumb it up by saying. It's made from flour. Dumb ass! I will never spend my money where employees are condescending with their patronage. Maybe he should scrub his flaky skin from his face.

Yelp
All of the booths were not cleared for service unfortunately. But it could be because it was 7pm and they were slammed with orders. The bar was cute. The drink dispenser: fruit punch was only soda water, coke was flat. Cool in the seating area but understandable for the amount of heat coming from the kitchen. Service was quick and came out in the right order. Caesar salad was decent with great tangy dressing served on the side (which I like!) & topped with a lot of croutons. Slice of cheese pizza was fantastic value at $3.95 and delicious. Bruschetta was HUGE and beautifully presented with fresh looking tomatoes!! You can tell they were busy busting out food for all the folks coming in to pick up their to go orders too. The young lady at the front was taking orders, serving and preparing food!!! Nice to see the awesome service. Can't wait when roads get fixed but worth the bumpy ride to get here. Glad traffic made to pull over to give Jonny's Pizza a shot. Finally a decent place with a huge menu variety. I'll DEFINITELY be back
google avatar

Tanya K.

Yelp
Pizza is totally disgusting. Chewy rubbery cheese, toppings slide right off a greasy, uncooked doughy watery base that isn't formed. Salty. Will never order anything from this place again.
google avatar

Krystal T.

Yelp
My friends and I ordered a supreme and a pepperoni pizza. We all enjoyed the pizza. We had a real New Yorker in our crew and she approved! However, I felt the supreme pizza was salty because of so many olives. But over all, these pizzas were delicious! The customer was excellent and the restaurant was clean
google avatar

Ally D.

Yelp
Truly perfect NY-style pizza... huge slices, great flavor, with lots of options. Friendly staff! We tend to get to-go or delivery from them and have tried lots of their special pizzas, and love the white pizza. We ordered one of their super large pizzas the day before the 2021 winter storm, and we have leftovers for days!

Donna S.

Yelp
ordered online and signed Into my accounts to get 20% off total order. (did not calculate that in my total). I ordered 20 wings a pepperoni pizza and white pizza. When my daughter brought the order home (she didn't look inside the boxes) there were 2 margherita pizzas. I tried to call to them know and no answer several times. "voicemail full). I was not going to go back @ 6pm traffic on a Friday night. disappointed that the 20% discount was not applied, the order was wrong, and no one could answer the phone. All of the above concerns can be corrected with staff training and increased staffing. $70 is a lot for 2 average quality pizzas and wings.

Ruben I.

Yelp
Very good Pizza that is similar toNew York Pizza style. Highly recommend Jonny's Pizza.

Yelp
This was by far one of the worst experiences ever. I called to place an order and the lady that took my order could not understand what I was asking nor really relay back to me what my request was. Once the order was placed, I did no receive any communication on delivery time or anything. Mind you I placed the order directly with them. She did say it would take about 45 minutes . Well around hour 2 of me waiting to receive my food, I called back to see what was going on because I had no way of knowing anything. No tracking, nothing. Just horrible. It was cold and old. The salad looked like broken rabbit food. The sauce on the bread was very oily and soggy. I could not eat it. Tried to bite into it and you see the results. Where are the fillings? As a new resident in Aubrey, I'm just amazed at how horrible this service and food was. I will NEVER order here. For soggy food and a 3 hour unwarranted wait, never again.

David W.

Yelp
Great Pizza!! And real larger slices. They can sell by the piece just call ahead and it will be ready when you get there.

Yelp
what's not to love,we order from here alot, pizza, calzones, turnovers, pizza rolls,subs.. irs all good...def order ahead...they def get busy ...prices r good too...just look at my sub last night ...yummy!!

Yelp
Hi there, former Jonny's employee here. I worked there for a while and I can say that this restaurant is the worst. Firstly, the owner Jonny is never at this location. And if he is, he tells his employees to tell customers he isn't there because he "Doesn't have time to deal with them, I'm busy". Yet, when going into his office, he is busy smoking cigs and watching Dr. Pimple Popper on YouTube. He also had degraded his staff several times while in a Friday rush at night. Often telling employees "What's the matter with you? Ya slow or somethin?" or something to that degree. When an employee quit his job, I was working with a younger gentleman when the owner came into the lobby and told this man (he was 16 at the time) to come into his office. Where then he told the boy to text the former employee that "If he ever sees his face, he will beat the shit out of him" and that he was "a spineless bitch who couldn't fight like a real man". Remember he forced a 16 old boy to text this. Next, the only things made fresh are the pizza's, salads, wings, calzones, and strombolis. The rolls are made in advance and are stored in the fridge or in a bin under the table where the pizza slices are. All the cheese sticks, calamari, beef meatballs, and tortellini are frozen. Even with the salads, I personally observed a staff member slicing a moldy tomato and giving it to the customer on the salad they ordered. The desserts are also bought, sliced, and packaged. They are NOT made in house. I was also instructed to serve alcohol to customers even though we legally couldn't. He said "We can't sell it, but there's nothing about giving it away for free. So if a customer asks, just give it to them." Didn't tell me to check their ID or anything. He was also woefully unprepared to handle a POS system as he was the only one who had access to the register unless a sale was made in cash. Mind you, we had no manager at this location, so if someone wanted a refund for their order and they paid in cash, we were told to tell the customers to come back later when the owner arrives. Only on my last day or two did we actually get a manager to set up the POS system properly, and the owner was STILL the only one able to get into the register (minus the manager who set it up of course but he was full-time at another location). Spend your money elsewhere. Pizza is overpriced. Pasta is weak. Owner doesn't care about staying at his understaffed location. Belittles and degrades his employees.

Yelp
Would be 5 stars but for some inexplicable reason they are randomly closed during posted business hours. Otherwise great food and service.
google avatar

Poughybear K.

Yelp
The flavor is off. I had the Alfredo pizza, the cheese pizza, garlic knots, and calamari. Both pizzas were extra cheesy/greasy slices of pizza, and I had high hopes of eating it all. However, the flavor was marred by what seems to be the taste of the oven. I don't know if the oven is still so new or what but the pizza had a weird taste... also the lack of spices in their sauce don't help. The calamari breading isn't right for the octopus, and came off to expose very chewy/hard rubbery meat. The only thing that was ok were the garlic knots, but I doubt I'll be back for just those.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
Went to this place for lunch. There was no wait, no line. I told the young lady it was my first time and asked her if they made an Italian sub. She pointed at the menu and said all our subs are on the menu. I asked her another question and clearly annoyed she said everything we have is on the menu. At that point I felt was best if I left to keep my food from getting spit on. Man she was rude. We went to Torchys. Lunch saved!
google avatar

B S.

Yelp
We left Illinois 3 years ago and have only missed one thing since we moved - our hometown pizza. We've made it a mission to find good pizza here, and Johnny's fit the bill. We LOVED their garlic bread, and the pizza was really good with a nice, light, flavorful crust. They were doing a heck of a carry-out business that night, which was good to see. We'll be back.
google avatar

Jamila M.

Yelp
Wet happy to have a local pizza joint that's so close. I always order the classic pepperoni with mushrooms, olives and Italian sausage!! Fresh salad also! Very good! Service is always great, kind and friendly. I usually order to go but when I arrive the place looks clean and welcoming! If you live in the area, I'd highly recommend you try it out!!!
google avatar

Jimmy B.

Yelp
Customer service is 50% crappy and 50% excellent! TWICE NOW I had the SAME guy take my order and then when the pie was ready they put it on top of an oven - ITS A TO-GO order!!!!!! I AM SITTING HERE WAITING for THAT PIE! When I called him out on it - he said he was waiting on it - but NOPE I was watching and waiting to see if he was going to ignore me AGAIN! I faced him about it and he rolled his eyes at me! WHAT KIND of help is this???? Come on Johnny! Once and now twice!

Julisa A.

Yelp
The pizza is bomb and usually the fettuccine is good too but I got this run down fettuccine it looks like soup it tasted like noddles milk and pepper . I expected more not to mention it's 17$ each like y'all playing .
google avatar

Alice B.

Yelp
They have GIANT pizzas. We had a slice of their ready made pizzas and shared a Caesar salad. Tasty and fast with a comfortable atmosphere. They also had a small but nicely set up bar.

Allison B.

Yelp
Expensive for run of the mill options and food. 3 people eating and it's $50 bucks for 3 sodas, 2 slices of cheese pizza, a Stromboli and shrimp Alfredo. Wasn't able to afford a Caesar salad to go with the Alfredo and they wouldn't offer a smaller salad size (for Caesar). So that's got me a bit ticked off. Only had $50 to begin with anyway Oh look... I've already posted a review. It's been so long since I've been that i forgot how awful this place is. Here we are again. Ssssssslllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeerrrrrrr than molasses. Ffs stop hiring fluff heads.

Yelp
Jonny's Pizza is phenomenal. From the moment you walk through the door until the last crumb is eaten it is pure excellence! Our first visit, we met Jonny and he was super awesome. We had already checked out and were eating but of course our kiddos kept wanting a drink vs the water we got them. Jonny being a parent himself he saw this and gave the kiddos a free drink. Definitely didn't have to do that but being a kind soul did! We talked to him and learned that they don't use freezers and everything is fresh... making me enjoy our dinner just that much more. We have ordered from them numerous times for pick up since our dine in experience and every time is phenomenal. The food looks great and tastes even better. I love that we are able to support a local eatery and enjoy the phenomenal food doing so. If you haven't tried Jonny's, I highly recommend you give them a try. My personal favorites are their Alfredo pizza and their cheesy garlic bread.
google avatar

Tracy G.

Yelp
This is our second time ordering from Jonny's. The first time we ordered delivery. Love when the food is just as good as dine in! Tonight we were headed home from a basketball game and I was CRAVING calamari. So we do an online order...so easy...BUT I submitted it and saw it was going to be an hour and a half! I didn't realize they were so close so I called and changed it to pick up. They were happy to accommodate. I arrived to pick up my order and they were so pleasant and greeted me. The store was half full and had people waiting to pick up. I talked to the manager/owner maybe and he said they're so busy they have 6 drivers out delivering all night. How awesome! All of our food was amazing. We will definitely be trying more menu items!
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
The pizza is good according to my husband. I'm the weird person that doesn't like pizza. I tried the lasagna and it was ok. Not your mom's lasagna for sure. I can say the cheesecake is amazing and so is the tiramisu! The garlic bread is delicious as well. For a group this is the place to go. The pizza is giant and will feed a lot of people!

Holly W.

Yelp
It's 109 outside. These guys are working hard inside Jonny's and despite the heat they were doing a great job!! Pizza was exactly as I ordered and delish!!! The salad was Hugh and also delish!! Thank you boys!!! Job well done!!!
google avatar

Robin T.

Yelp
Absolutely awesome! Service was fast dining was pleasant. CALAZONES AND STROMBOLI Huge! We are coming in again SOON!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Some of the best NY style pizza and Italian food I've had in the DFW area. The pizza by the slice and calzones are amazing. I'll be back often to try the rest of the menu.

Tricia W.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Walked in and sat at the bar, thinking someone would say hello or come order first but nothing. Walked out and drove down to Joe's in Little Elm.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
Thank God there's good non-"run of the mill chain pizza" on the 380 corridor! If you walk in and this feels familiar to Joe's in LE you would be correct. Johnny sold his half stake in Joe's and opened up this beautiful masterpiece on 380. Top notch New York style slices/pies! Noticed the wings looked perfect at the table next to mine. They also have a beer/wine bar that's away from the main ordering line My boy and I came in here and were ecstatic to see Johhny here! Thus pizza is phenomenal and I can't say enough about the service. Not to mention if you need delivery it's free! Keep up the good work!!!!

Yelp
Still mad about not having the single slice pizza and driving up there to get it and being turned down, but pizza tastes good and they have done everything ok since then.

Yelp
The food here is good and so is the customer service. I got my order to go and everything was there! I have no complaints.
