Surprised by all the positive reviews. We booked for a picnic after reading the positive responses and were very disappointed. The gluten-free picnic basket was nice, except for the fact that the gluten-free bread was completely stale and inedible. In this day gluten-free options should not be an after thought. I would recommend supplementing with crackers rather than stale crumbly bread. The tart in the non-gluten basket was very dry and really not well made. Our group was located in the furthest picnic pod which was the least desirable out of the options on the lawn, and we were told that the other pods were booked however no one arrived to occupy the other pods throughout the day so we could have had one of the better areas and this was disappointing. We were told that our server would visit us every half an hour to see if we needed anything else, but he visited us once during the entire afternoon. Because we were left without service, we made our way up to the restaurant to sit down and order our coffee there, but we're told we couldn’t sit at the restaurant due to a private function: most of the restaurant was empty and we were told to move. We then ordered coffee to enjoy in the upper garden and were served this in takeaway cups despite specifically requesting it as a non take-away. All in all, it’s a pity that the service is so lack lustre and that one is made to feel like just another head. Pleasant setting but not spectacular, and due to the service there are far better picnic options to choose from in the winelands. Would not recommend.
