We visited Jordan Wines to celebrate two birthdays and, whilst the food and wine were excellent, the experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the manager’s behaviour. I booked a table for 8 and when 4 additional friends joined, we approached the manager calmly (a few of us at different times) to ask whether we could add a small unused table nearby/squeeze in. There was clearly enough space, spare chairs around & an unreserved table next to us. A group next to us had also squeezed in extra people without issue.
Despite this, the manager refused to consider anything. He repeatedly said ‘you only booked for 8’ & insisted we hadn’t communicated with him, which was simply untrue. Every attempt to reason with him, including pointing out the open tables & chairs, was met with ‘it’s not my problem.’ When I explained that this was dampening my birthday experience & that I wouldn’t return to Jordan for future celebrations, he told me that was ‘fine with him.’ I’ve never had a manager say something like that to a guest.
This all took place at 14:30, with the kitchen closing at 15:00 & there were no guests waiting to be seated. His inflexibility was so out of place that it became genuinely baffling. What made it even stranger was that other staff were perfectly willing to help. Our waiter mentioned the possibility of seating everyone upstairs, but we eventually managed to have the other 4 join us when a group next to us left.
Had the restaurant been truly full with every seat accounted for, the situation would have made sense. But given the time of day, visible empty tables, spare chairs & the kitchen close to closing, the manager’s behaviour felt completely unnecessary.
On the positive side, our waiter was outstanding. He went out of his way to make a plan after the manager had directed our additional guests to sit in the tasting area. The other waiting staff we interacted with later in the afternoon were also friendly & attentive, and genuinely helped salvage the experience. They got it right.
The food and wine were excellent as always. No complaints there.
