Joint # 58: JORDAN'S HOT DOGS AND MAC, New Haven, CT. Jordan's Hot Dogs and Mac is a relatively new joint (since 2012) that came to be from a cart to a brick and mortar establishment. After speaking to Tiffany (a co-owner), she mentioned that the joint is named after her son who has a special affinity for hot dogs with macaroni and cheese on top. From the outside, the place looks cozy and inviting (I was digging the store front paint job). Upon entering and seeing of photos of hot dogs plastering the walls, it was clear that this place was all about the dog! RATINGS:... John: 9/10, Me: 8.5/10.
John said, "We had our typical mustard, onion, sauce. It was a 10 inch dog. It was fantastic, split-top, grilled with a lot of flavor to the dog. The chili was good. When it first came out, I thought the onion on it was going to be overpowering (it was a nice raw onion), but it actually blended in with the mustard and chili combination. The bun was ugh, I guess it would be a split-top bun. Yes, split-top bun: buttered, grilled, held everything in nice. It was delicious. I'm going with a 9 on this dog, for overall on the whole thing...I just loved it. I thought it was great." I said, "Alright, yeah, as Johnny said, we're at Jordan's. The place is pretty legit. I really like the atmosphere (first off). The store front is really an attractive little joint. It has about 8 or 9 tables. Great hospitality upon arrival. They were happy the Dawg Tour came down. We got the usual: the mustard, onion, sauce. I believe they are the 10 inch Hummels. John mentioned they were the split-top, cut right down the middle, then they put them on the griddle. I'll tell you, they are fantastic and they're not too greasy. So they really lock in the flavor. We did them with the mustard and onion and the onion was a little deceptive because it was large, large pieces. I think we both got a little nervous, but the onion was not overpowering and the mustard, while it looked nice (with a pattern), was my one gripe. Usually I am a spicy mustard fan, this was yellow, which is cool, but it was a little much for me. The bun was a beautiful masterpiece. That was a masterpiece, it really was and the flavors were perfect. This thing was toasted perfectly. You can tell, this place knows what they're doing. So, if you are in the New Haven area, come down here, it's on State Street (970), it's really worth your time and for Jordan's, I'm going with an 8.5. I enjoyed it and I recommend this place hands down." facebook.com / The Dawg Tour
