The 13 Best Lunch Spots In Austin

"This location of Jo’s is way more restaurant than coffee shop. The original location on South Congress only has a few food options, but here you can get everything from salads to melts to pretty good burgers. Try to snag a table inside because the grackles outside are next-level aggressive. " - adele hazan, nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

The 11 Best Coffee Shops In Downtown Austin

"The Downtown location of Jo’s Coffee might not sport the same iconic “I love you so much” wall art found at its South Congress counterpart, but on the menu you’ll still find all the same great coffee drinks, including the Iced Turbo—basically a creamy, chocolatey, hazelnut cold brew. This location also has a big dining room, where you can grab a few minutes of air conditioning if you’re out shopping, or just post up and work for a while. There’s also a walk-up window facing the street if you’re just looking for a quick cup on the go.  " - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary

14 Spots to Cool Off With Frosé in Austin

"Though the South Congress location of the coffee shop has that iconic mural, Jo’s Downtown has an equally Instagrammable offering: frosé. Made with a touch of lemon, the pink drink pairs well with its homestyle diner fare." - Erin Russell

Google
Stopped here randomly for breakfast while I was visiting Austin and it was SO good. Their iced coffee was great and I got their egg white & feta wrap special which was also very good. Nice outdoor patio and a cool interior also. Quick and nice people working here. 10/10.

Google
First time visit and found it to be a good experience. I was on the hunt for an expresso based coffee and ended up having breakfast too. The bacon taco wasn't bursting with flavour but tasted good all the same. Friendly staff. Dog friendly. Couldn't ask for anything else.

Google
Great spot for a morning coffee/breakfast. Perfect post-run fuel. The staff behind the counter were very kind, and the patio is a welcome place to enjoy a little downtime. Migas taco and potato taco were delicious, and the latte was fantastic!

Melodie Roschman

Google
The food was so good, and the price and location so convenient in relationship to the convention center, that I ate here three times during my time at SXSW Edu! Got the migas plate twice, and the southwest salad once. All were generous portions - the potatoes were particularly good. Also enjoyed their signature coffee. The interior is a basic diner, and the exterior tables could use cleaning more often, but I loved being able to eat on the patio.

Are we go again? I wish there was a minus a star to put someone to tell me why a sandwich that I have to dig into the middle of it to find the protein with a drink cost $25 man chicken is the cheapest protein in this in the market. I finished the whole sandwich without even testing the chicken there’s nowhere to be found the lady were staring on my food for 15 minutes before she decide to bring it to the table. The chips was overcooked with smell and you easily can tell oil was burned.

I first discovered Jo's at the Austin Airport and loved it! So when I spotted the 2nd Street location, I had to stop for my morning fix. The Mocha was so good that I went back for a second. The service was excellent, and there’s both indoor and outdoor seating. They also serve food, and the menu looks great!

B K

Google
I had no idea this coffee shop served full-sized plates! They have a menu from breakfast to lunch. I was really impressed with the Migas Plate. The eggs were perfectly cooked, not dry, and they came with tortillas and great beans. There’s also a lot of space inside, even though it doesn’t look like it from the curb. I highly recommend checking it out for more than just a cup of coffee!

Google
Jo‘s Coffee is a place I always visit when I’m in Austin. I love the granola with a nice Jo‘s Blend coffee. The breakfast tacos are a recommendation as well!

Yelp
Jo's is iconic so we had to try it even though the overall Yelp rating is under 4 stars. We were greeted with a friendly, "Welcome y'all" from a young man with cool old school glasses and a mullet (!!). W ordered two Migas tacos (one would be enough for me, but definitely two for him) and I ordered the Double Stack. Not usually a pancake girl, but they sounded good! And we both had almond milk lattes. The lattes were good--nothing special, but not disappointing either. The tacos had scrambled egg, cheese, and pico. Said it came with tortilla strips, but there was no crunch in the tacos, and we didn't see chips in them. Wrapped in a flour tortilla, and W asked for the spicy hot sauce. Overall pretty tasty. The flapjacks were fluffy with a slightly crispy exterior. They don't put butter on them, which is good for us because W doesn't like butter (some kind of birth defect, I think...), and they have grass fed butter at the table. I ate half the stack and W ate the rest. Overall, glad we came! Cute, clean spot right across from the W Austin hotel where we stayed. We also stopped at the location on Congress for a pic under the iconic I Love You wall.

Yelp
Daphne at the register is very helpful and kind, she definitely made my experience a pleasant one. Food was fresh and tasted good, Voodoo Matcha is amazing, must try! We went on a Saturday and it does get very busy but they do the best they can to fulfill the orders. If you are not the patient type that likes to sit outside and enjoy the weather go elsewhere on the weekend.

Yelp
Second time at Jo's and food and coffee was great. I had tacos last visit and the breakfast burrito this time. The burrito was almost too big to finish. Coffee is hot and strong. There are a lot of food choices that I intend to try in upcoming visits. Nice low key place to eat and relax. I'll be back Fo Sho!

Yelp
Love this coffee! The service was fast and the staff were friendly. I loved how it was outdoors and the famous I love you so much photo opt is a must. If you are in Austin this is a gem you have to stop at. I had my coffee while I walked down the strip and enjoyed my shopping!

Yelp
Jo's coffee establishment is located in the heart of downtown Austin and easily accessible by foot and with a fun atmosphere. Walking up the customer is greeted with mini-gated entrance with minimalistic high and low tables thrown about. Walk on in and wonderful aromas hit the nostrils in force. The king of smells is obviously and rightfully so, is the freshly ground coffee. If your nose is able to sift through various roasted beans; eggs, tortillas and bacon raise their hands to be recognized. I do confess I've never had their food but it smells pretty "dog gone good." The white, open ceiling facility has a huge menu on the back wall making ordering a breeze however don't forget to check out the little "daily specials" that are on these little plaques. The staff is quick to help out and offer good suggestions when they're asked. I actually enjoyed the controlled chaos watching the baristas fly around operating grinders, ovens, toasters, milk frothing machines and you get the point. They do work quick however if you're coming in with a crowd expect wait times to increase as well. As for drinks the hot lattes can be outstanding depending on what you might order. That said, I've been to Jo's before so I decided to be adventurous and order the hot special. It was called "Spumoni Latte" with strawberry, chocolate, pistachio, espresso, milk and whipped cream. Unfortunately, it was horrible. The shot of strawberry syrup totally brought the drink out of balance to where none of the other flavors could tickle the palate, thus I'm left with a hot strawberry slurpy coffee concoction that a trashcan would reject. That said my girlfriend ordered an iced latte and it was outstanding. I guess the point here is I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone and order something different but also note not all creations might be to your liking. Jo's has a lot of fun swag including cups, mugs, shirts, you name it so you're covered if that's your thing. While I can't speak to the food, it smells great. While I did focus on the one bad beverage I had, that's the exception. I've had their coffee many times before and it's almost always on point. Not everything is going to be a slam dunk but we're all in search of that perfect wave and until we get in the water and paddle out, we'll never know what we're missing. Jo's is an exceptional coffee shop, in a great and safe section of town with a phenomenal staff. Two thumbs up and like the terminator, "I'll be back..."

Yelp
ChatGBT suggested I try the Iced Turbo at Jo's Coffee. I passed by its original location at South Congress with the "I love you so much" mural but didn't want coffee then. So when I was near downtown, I made sure to stop by for a coffee break. There wasn't much people on a Sunday late afternoon and the cashier was friendly and quick with the orders... it was a bit odd that we had to cap our own drinks, but that's fine. There was a good amount of inside and outside seating and I liked the vibe, very fitting of Austin and laid back with a rustic feel. I enjoyed the iced turbo, described accurately on the board - the espresso gave it a good coffee flavor that's not lost in the chocolate & cream. No comments on anything else on the menu.

Yelp
Solo girl friendly, tons of small seating- fun diner vibes! Their signature iced coffee drink, the Turbo, has awesome notes of chocolate and hazelnut, plus espresso. They said it does contain whole milk and cream, so if you need a more tummy friendly option, the Belgian is half turbo- half cold brew which cuts some of the whole milk and upgrades the caffeine. I ordered the potato/hashbrown taco, pretty simple but the salsas were awesome and definitely upgraded the taco.

Yelp
Great menu, super fast service, and love the flavor combinations. Outdoor seating is a great space to cool off from the sun in the shade, hangout with friends, or catch up on work. Street parking is around and tons to do by this area. The drinks were so good we visited twice in one weekend!
google avatar

MaKenzie K.

Yelp
Quick and easy breakfast spot downtown that is always good! Jo's is probably more known for selling coffee but this location has a great breakfast and brunch menu. They have indoor and patio dining, and on weekends there may be a bit of a line but it moves quick. I most recently got their breakfast burger... it was so delicious and huge! I'd highly recommend.

Kelci W.

Yelp
Cutie little coffee spot in downtown Austin with great burritos and delicious coffee. Everything was fast and easy with fair prices. Went here during a work trip after multiple, multiple recommendations. Happy I did !
google avatar

Marissa K.

Yelp
The food and service were great! Our party tried both the the breakfast burrito and breakfast tacos and decided the burrito is the better of the two. The coffee options were good. A lot of people looked to have selected the breakfast sandwich so it just be good, too. Some reviews show long lines. 10am on. Saturday and I think there were 2 people in front of us
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
We were walking around on the strip and the first stop was to Jo's. We got the Belgian Coffee, Spumoni, and the Hibiscus Lemonade. All were good. I liked that we could choose alternatives to milk and I really appreciated that the hibiscus lemonade wasn't sweet like most lemonades out daughter cannot tolerate high amounts if sugar so it was really nice to be able to order a drink that she could try and that isn't loaded with sugar. There was a menu with breakfast burritos and food but we didn't partake.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Local Austin brand, super fast service. Had burger, coffee and beers; something for everyone! Inside had a diner ambience. Latte was a four out of five for being a little sweet and a little too much ice.
google avatar

Charlotte W.

Yelp
Jo's Downtown Coffee in Austin is a gem for its delicious and authentic beverages, like the famed Iced Turbo, and its cozy atmosphere that captures the spirit of Austin. The service is friendly and quick, enhancing the experience. With its prime downtown location, it's perfect for a coffee break or a light meal, though you might wish for longer hours.
google avatar

Justie L.

Yelp
A bit underwhelming, to be honest. The coffee was perfectly fine--my boyfriend had a pretty solid cold brew, and I had the turbo. I thought the turbo was fine, but nothing to write home about. We also had some breakfast tacos. I had the hash brown one, which was pretty disappointing. The hash browns weren't really hash browns, they were just mushy potatoes. The eggs were pretty overcooked, and the proportions of everything not ideal: there was a lot of tortilla compared to the innards, and it all ended up being fairly tasteless. My boyfriend had the vegan taco and said he found it to be similarly lacking. That being said, the green sauce was excellent. Easily the best item we had from Jo's.
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
Enjoyed an impromptu lunch at Jo's Coffee Downtown when I arrived in town for a conference. This quaint shop was in walking distance to the JW Marriott. I had the vegan wrap and it was absolutely delicious. I sat outside on the small patio overlooking the busy street. The vibe inside is super cool and casual as well. Although this is a "coffee shop" the food menu is really good and unique. And of course, great coffee too!
google avatar

Sana A.

Yelp
A decent spot for a quick bite to eat with some coffee, if you're ever in downtown already parked somewhere and walking around (because parking is impossible) than this is a lovely coffee shop to hang out at, I tried their matcha as well their iced latte, both were pretty good I also got their breakfast taco which I inhaled! It was delicious and I'd probably stop by here again to sit outdoors now that the weather is better.
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Too sweet for real coffee lovers Came to visit Austin and was told Jo's coffee is a must try. I got The Belgian bc it has more coffee in it and part of their classic drinks. It was way TOO sweet and not much coffee. I didn't realize they add condensed milk in it. If you're a real coffee lover that want to taste actual coffee, then I'd skip this one.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
A cozy gem in the heart of downtown. I love walking here on the weekends for a truly easy going brunch. You can make it quick with a croissant and coffee or live it up with a variety of breakfast tacos, sandwich's and other options complete with mimosas, froses and a full espresso menu. Service is a little on the slow side, but totally manageable if you go with time. I love the avocado toast with the feta.
google avatar

Yelp
The final stop of our trip on a Saturday morning but worth it! Yet another place of tasty tacos and good drinks! This place was poppin on a Saturday Morning. We just barely found a spot over at the high top bar. The menu looked great and it was tough to decide, but alas, we stuck with the taco diet we had most of our trip in Austin and dug into some chips and salsa and a chicken taco. Both were very delicious. We also bought a coffee and took a special Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle for the road. It tasted a lot different, I think the bottle said it was from Mexico or something. The service was really good too, from when we ordered to when we were served.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Cute Austin staple! Jo's was hyped up so we knew we had to make a trip for some breakfast tacos. It's a fast-casual vibe and perfect for breakfast on the go if you don't have time to enjoy the cute space. I ordered the turbo iced coffee, bacon taco, and hash brown taco. The turbo had chocolate and hazelnut syrup, giving it a nice nutty flavor without being overly sweet. I was a fan! The tacos were served with a red and green sauce (hot and mild) but both had quite the kick, so be careful. I really loved the hash brown taco! The bacon & egg taco did let me down a little bit because there wasn't much bacon. Overall, it was the perfect spot for a quick, no fuss meal with quality food.

Yelp
Was recommended to come here and it was great. Counter service coffee shop with great breakfast/brunch options. Breakfast burrito was awesome and so was the traditional breakfast. Coffee was good and service was very friendly and quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Have been trying to reach this location for 2 days now, and apparently nobody knows how to answer the phone because I haven't been able to get through once. We have an issue that needs to be resolved and no one can seem to help us even after leaving multiple voicemails. Very frustrating and disappointing to say the least.
google avatar

Chinmay P.

Yelp
Great tacos. I got the hash brown tacos and I would totally recommend it. The service is always great but the line can be long sometimes. The ambiance is totally Austin vibes and I love coming here every time I'm in town! It is a little pricey but definitely yummy! 5/5
google avatar

K R.

Yelp
This is a simple place to drink and stay or take away. I decided on a small Belgian Bomber which cost $6.41 after tax. Very good! Very strong!! Still feel it after 6 hours! I liked the twist of flavors and it went down smoothly. The decor is simple and the establishment is clean. Fun place to get a "to go" and walk the streets to explore Austin.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Fun Austin coffee joint!! Interesting menu with a nice variety of items. We split a pastry and breakfast tacos. Both were very tasty! Lots of seating and a cool Austin style ambiance. Employees were friendly and efficient. Our hotel recommended Jo's and I'm happy they did. I recommend them for anyone looking for a bite to eat and great coffee!!

Yelp
An Austin coffee staple :) Love the matcha here and the staff is lovely. The downtown location is my favorite, the ambiance and shaded patio is
google avatar

Daphne L.

Yelp
A cute little spot on 2nd Street downtown with lots of indoor seating and a nice sidewalk area in front to sit at tables. The latte was hot and made quickly while I waited- the barista free handed a "silly face" and handed it to me with a smile. I ordered a migas breakfast taco for an afternoon snack excited to see they serve breakfast until 3pm. While it had good flavor, the taco had clearly been sitting all day so the cheese had darkened and stuck to the sides and the tortilla was a little sticky from the moisture. I'd definitely go back for coffee and maybe earlier in the day for tacos- good value for Austin too- the taco was $4.50 as was the latte.
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible experience March 23rd, 2024 Ordered our food and waited twenty minutes for the server to come by and tell us they messed up our order but they were redoing it. (Fine. Things happen) My friend's egg sandwich arrives with a runny egg when he specifically asked for it over hard. Fine. Ten minutes later the egg sandwich arrives and we ask about the rest of our order They didn't even start the food for the other two people at the table. Did they seriously think that two people were going to watch the first eat alone? At this point it's not fine with me. So disappointed ruined the entire morning. If I could give the service here zero stars I would. Avoid this place unless you have an entire morning to waste
google avatar

Mariana O.

Yelp
Coffee was okay, nothing special. Though the cashier girl was nice, answering all my questions. The Old-Style Furniture was cute, and there wasn't many people in the afternoon, making it a good place to sit and have a cup of coffee.
google avatar

Meenarin P.

Yelp
The place is cute and nicely decorated. Smell of food from open kitchen setup. I don't like my coffee too much. The iced latte is a bit watery for me. But it's a good place to get coffee downtown.
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
This place is so cute! It's located downtown in a really pretty area. We were served quickly and our drinks were made in a matter of minutes. We had the seasonal flavors PB Cup iced and Iced Lavender both were very good. They are reasonably priced and I highly recommend going.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Great BLT and Fried Chicken Sandwich. The food came out fairly quickly and the coffee was great. We had the vanilla latte and it tasted amazing. The service was really quick and nice. The restaurant has a very cool theme and was decorated well. Solid restaurant!
google avatar

Gary M.

Yelp
One thing I do when I go outta town, I gotta see if the coffee scene is right. I definitely needed a pick me up & while shopping, this spot popped-up while walking & I already had a cold brew in mind. I went with the Iced Turbo, one of their signature drinks. I like to switch it up when I'm out of town (I usually go black with honey), with this selection the coffee came with chocolate & hazelnut. Only comes in two sizes: small (around 8oz) & large (around 10-12oz), glad I went with the large. The pastries weren't on deck till the next day (prepared ahead), the muffins they had to offer, I'd come back for them. Outside of that, a day after I left, I took a look at the full menu & I'd like to come back to get the whole experience.
google avatar

Mya ..

Yelp
Terrible customer service from a guy with glasses and pearl earrings. Go somewhere else if you like friendly service.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
Started off poorly when they ran out of cold brew (which... how?) and got an iced turbo instead which was very disappointing and just tasted like chocolate milk. And also had some of the worst breakfast tacos - tasteless with floppy bacon, flavorless eggs, and soggy tortillas. With so many great coffee shops in Austin and in downtown, I'm not sure how Jo's remains an icon.
google avatar

Nomad M.

Yelp
Chilled place to sit down for a quick bite or/and coffee if you are staying at one of the many hotels nearby or work in the downtown area. Note: - Lunch items are mostly sandwich and burger options; salads are limited options. But there's a Sweetgreen nextdoor - Coffee is a bit weak when I come in the afternoon 3ish
google avatar

Keith S.

Yelp
Boom! I believe this is a queer owned biz! At least I hope it is! I'm working remotely here for a month and felt at home at Jo's. I had a BLT wrap that was super tasty! The espresso was great as well. Super cool vibe, friendly staff, and super queer friendly! Yay, gay! Check this place out if you're in town. Bonus Tip: you can get a two hour parking garage voucher if you ask the barista! Another great reason to stop in for nourishment or refreshments!
google avatar

Tayo F.

Yelp
I didn't realize there was a Jo's right in the middle of downtown till I went to an event here. I already knew the coffee was going to be good from the other Jo's on congress but this one has food too which made me happy to see. I love the space, I'll come back soon
google avatar

Leann O.

Yelp
Always stop here when I'm in Austin. Love the iced turbo. Super friendly staff. This place blows Starbucks out of the water.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
Cute spot! I got the Cowboy coffee and it was delicious. Unique drink here so it makes them service. There was a wait but wasn't too long. Will be coming back soon!
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
Popped in here to get warm one morning of SXSW. I've been to the Jo's in the airport and also the one near Commodore Perry's. This was the first time I have had the food though, and I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner! I got the breakfast hammie sandwich and it was great. The sourdough was just perfectly sweet and the runny egg made a great dip! I out some yellow bird hot sauce on it which just put it over the top. The Belgian Bomber is my go to drink, love anything that can spice up my usual cold brew. Though the seasonal Cowboy Cookie Cold Brew looked mighty tempting! My only qualm is they just load the drinks up with SO much ice. It's the nice crushed ice, but whenever I finish my drink it's a little disappointing to see that it was 80% full of ice.
google avatar

Fran Q.

Yelp
Yummy coffee and great place to study. A lot of fans and shade to cool off. They only take card. The iced turbo is my go to. Kinda tastes like milk
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
Jo's Coffee's physical location was great. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and staff. The woman at the register was so friendly and gave a great recommendation. I'd give this place a stop by again! I wouldn't recommend the location at the airport. I'm sure the product was fine but the lady working was absolutely rude and horrible.

Rey M.

Yelp
A Honest "Rey Eats" Review: $ May 20, 2023 Wish there were more Sugar free syrup options. However, a good variety was available and adequate alternative milk options. Seems pricey for adding syrups and alternative milk. The coffee is mediocre and prefer other coffee shops in the area over this place. Overall, would not recommend and was disappointing for coffee and customer service. Additional Notations: The place is like a old school diner. However the customer service was not there for me. The line was not long but me and my girlfriend did not feel welcomed. The person at the register was busy talking to their coworker instead of helping us.
google avatar

Gloria F.

Yelp
The struggle is REAL for decent coffee downtown. I go here from time to time after a Pilates workout at SolidCore. I like it better than Intelligentsia and I've only had the cold brew. Definitely better than the mediocre 3.5 stars given by fellow yelpers and more than fine for just a regular Joe.
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
This place was super cute and VERY popular. We had coffee, breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, and a homemade pop tart. Our food was decently good, the salsas with he burrito were super tasty and the bacon I added was a key bonus. Breakfast sandwich was pretty good - basic. Honestly, the best part for my boyfriend was the handmade pop tart/hand pie. It was so good, flaky crust, tasty filling. It was so good, we tried to go back the next day only to find out they had sold out which sent us on a quest to find something similar nearby. Jo's is a staple in Austin and the one on South Congress is where you will find more food options and the I love you so much sign. Great experience overall!

B G.

Yelp
Ordered a single breakfast Bacon & Egg taco. Waited patiently for 30 minutes before asking if my food would be ready soon and the staff were extremely unhelpful and immature. Waited another 15 minutes before finally leaving without my taco. Wish I could give 0 stars

Yelp
Got the iced turbo, blend of coffee with chocolate and hazelnut, delicious!! Great pick me up for the afternoon!
