"Josephine’s Kitchen, which is only open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., is a brunch favorite to fuel up before a day at the beach. Check out its award-winning shrimp and grits or weekend specials: A roast pork hash or brioche French toast stuffed with strawberries and cream cheese." - Lane Gillespie, Brittany Britto Garley

Had breakfast on a Monday morning at 9:30, we had to wait 30. It was really crowded. Service was still good. Ordered pecan pancakes. They were three huge pancakes..I was only able to eat one. They were really good. Ordered orange juice, it was quite a small serving. While it was fresh orange juice, I wouldn't order it again. Parking was hard to find.

Google
Great food and good service! We came back this year because we had a nice experience last year! Wait is definitely the only negative side of it… The eggs, Benedict Barbacoa is phenomenal and worth getting while you are here!!! if you find yourself on South Padre Island, and you want some good breakfast/lunch. This is a place to go.

Rodney Crawford

Google
We were staying on Padre Island for 10 days. On day 2 we discovered Josephines. We ate there every morning because it is just that good. Consistent quality of food and some of the best servers made this restaurant quickly become one of my and my wife favorite spots. You want to get here early, it fills up quickly because those that know, know how good it is.

Google
Had a decent brunch here. Service was great and it's a nice atmosphere. The French toast was a bit disappointing but we enjoyed everything else and prices are good too

Google
Love coming here to eat. The environment, the staff, and the food is amazing. Brought my wife for her birthday and the staff sang her happy birthday. Love this place

Russell Spillers

Google
The food is delicious. Expect a long wait during the busy season and holidays but just get your name on the list and go down 2 minutes to the arcade if you have kiddos. Pictured are the victor chilequiles, club sandwich and breakfast sandwich. The place is a bit too loud inside due to them having the tables way too close but for a place like this it somehow works.

Google
Josephine’s never disappoints! Be prepared to wait if you’re going on the weekend when everyone is already awake and hungry. We try to stop by a little earlier so we don’t wait to get seated. My favorite plate is the huevos rancheros, they’re so yummy and their mimosas are too! Service is always friendly and they try their best to get you served as quick as possible.

Google
I knew the moment I found the menu, I was going to have an experience. I visited on Easter wekend, and my bunny rabbit cotton candy was soooo creamy and delicious. Excellent breakfast cocktail, bc those are important on vacay 😆

Yelp
If you're looking for a nice place for Brunch Josephine's (on Island) is definitely the place to go! Service is great and every dish has it's own unique flavor! Other than El Jefe in Port Isabel there's no where else I'd wanna get breakfast down here!

Amy D.

Yelp
They were very busy for a Wednesday morning. Our server was super sweet but obviously busy. Our only complaint was that my husband requested no cheese in his omelet and it still had cheese. Otherwise, everything tasted great!

Ronald B.

Yelp
We chose a couple places to eat breakfast while on the island and Josephine's was about the highest rated so we ate there our first morning. I ate the Josephine's Sampler - two eggs, hashbrowns, a strip of bacon, slice of ham and a sausage patty. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hashbrowns were crunchy and a bit over cooked but better than most here in the Valley. The bacon was just ok, the ham was super thin and typical of supermarket ham. The sausages patty was actually pretty tasty. I was supposed to get a choice of either a waffle or pancakes. I requested the waffle but apparently... the waiter or kitchen staff had other plans, so I got the pancakes. They were only so so. Oh... the coffee was good. Our waiter, Kevin, evidently decided he had better things to do than bring us our check as he was visiting other customers outside. Eventually he returned and we could check out. So, to recap, the food was four stars and the service by Kevin rated maybe two stars and that's being generous. In the end I gave them four stars because of the food. The waiter... maybe he'll move on.

Samettria B.

Yelp
This place was wonderful. A small diner like atmosphere. We had breakfast. The food was immaculate! Somebody knows what they are doing when it comes to breakfast. One of my biggest peeves are restaurants not cooking eggs properly. I told the waiter I wanted soft scrambled eggs. She took the time to understand what I meant by that. What surprised us is when she first came to greet us she introduced herself and told us a little bit of her history ( where she was from and how long she'd been in the US). We truly appreciated that. She tended to our needs and those eggs came out perfectly. Will definitely be going back when we visit again.

Steffie S.

Yelp
Great service, atmosphere, and food. That pretty much sums it up...oh and the coffee was delicious too. Enjoy.

Tyler S.

Yelp
Great food and Service. Reasonable prices and left full! If you are looking for a breakfast place in SPI come here!

Imo O.

Yelp
This is one of the best breakfast spots on the island! The service was amazing as we were seated quickly and our server Susana was awesome, thank you Susana! We ordered the Josephine's Sampler, the Steak & Eggs, and the Chicken & Waffles. That waffle was the best waffle I ever had, PERIOD!!!! Along with the chicken, I was in heaven! The best deal is the Josephine's Sampler as you get a little of everything for only $10 and it fills you right up! Both the Sampler and Steak plate were tasty as well! We were a happy table! :) Can't wait to come back here!!

Sean M.

Yelp
Basic, but ok. My husband got pancakes and I got the avocado toast that had eggs ontop. I think they wanted to bring both our food out at once and mine was finished before my husbands so it sat - bc when I got it, the eggs were cold. My husbands pancakes were nice and hot and delish. All in all, it was alright. So if you're looking for some basic little diner, this is your spot.

Ryan Q.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant! Amazing food and best service on South Padre Island. We were served by Eden and she was so right about the waffle The food was great and the fruit was perfectly fresh. Such a cute restaurant atmosphere and must visit for the island!

Shawn V.

Yelp
We went there for breakfast with 4 adults, 2 kids and a baby. It was 9:00 am and we were able to get right in - minutes ahead of the crowd and a wait lost. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful and readily moved two tables together so we wouldn't be crowded - which we appreciated. Some of our party had the typical eggs/bacon/sausage/hash browns and pancakes all of which were prepared exactly as ordered and all of the food was hot and fresh. We had one order of French toast which had a great flavor - just a hint of cinnamon. Another had the crepes which were also really tasty. The remainder had omelets which were also very good. This was a very solid breakfast choice with a very friendly and accommodating server - props to her. The food came out very timely and our orders of pancakes to go for others also came out quickly. We would highly recommend this place!

Natalie A.

Yelp
We waited till our last morning on the island to visit Josephine's and it was a great way to end our vacation. We noticed the parking lot packed almost everyday over the week so we had to try. The service was amazing and the food was incredible. Watermelon mimosa was on special and so good! My husband had the barbacoa Benedict and I had the shrimp cake bendict. The rest of our party had plates with traditional items like waffles, pancakes, eggs cooked all ways, hashbrowns and a variety of proteins. It was all delicious! Don't skip Josephine's!

Christal P.

Yelp
The pecan stack is delicious! The pancakes are huge I couldn't finish them! They are as large as the plate! Get there early if it is a holiday weekend this place stays packed! The staff were very friendly.

Espie O.

Yelp
Food and prices were great! Portions are huge, and customer service is excellent. A place to visit for breakfast or brunch with reasonable prices.

Adriana P.

Yelp
Horrible service. We were a party of seven waited 1 1/2 hour to get seated and our party got separated in different sides of the restaurant. I saw a big table and the person in charge said that table was for a group that had just arrived. Never coming back here again, the food cant be that great for this service.

Carrie Q.

Yelp
We decided to try this place for brunch and we weren't disappointed! First, get there early, but expect to wait. It's well worth it! They have a full bar with lots to choose from, plus coffee drinks. I decided to try the shrimp and grits and it was some of the best I've ever eaten! The place is fairly large and accommodates a lot of people, tables turn pretty quickly so your wait shouldn't be long! Great service!

Michelle B.

Yelp
9:30 am Friendly service as soon as you walk in the door! Wait was like 5 minutes. Well worth it! Food was delicious! I had the local favorite and it was oh so good!! Bar that services speciality coffee's and beautiful bloody Mary's and mimosas. Will be back next time on the island! Will be our go to breakfast spot!

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Big portions, good food, great price. Edith, our waitress, was friendly and had good recommendations and accommodated changes for the kids

Tiffany V.

Yelp
The hot cocoa is the best I've ever had! Breakfast was delicious but be prepared to wait a bit during busy season. Servers were friendly and work hard so we tipped generously.

Mariah J.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE!!! Best breakfast I've ever had!!! I usually don't finish my food but I literally licked the plate clean!!!! Must try if ur in Padrea!!!!!!! I got the crepe mussette my husband got the Victor chilaquiles !:) the orange juice was so fresh best I've ever had! It's gonna be hard to drink our regular OJ again after this LOL

Azsure D.

Yelp
Squeee! So glad we dragged ourselves off the beach in time to get to Josephine's before they closed. We got in under the wire! And so worth it. This is one of the more mod, trendier places on SPI. Fresh modeling and decor, plus an oyster wall for local flair. Great brunch-y menu and dahhhling the mimosas!!! We had the chilaquiles, the shrimp eggs benny, and the avocado eggs benny (finally, a meat free option on the island!!). The benedict was good- a hint of chili seasoning in the hollandaise. Pleasant service, who never made us feel rushed despite the fact they were close to closing. A plus for option to scan QR code to pay and not charging extra for technology (#GirlsWhoSTEM)

Tammie G.

Yelp
We went for breakfast and food was ok but nothing great. The service was very good and I would try again at lunch time to get a better idea of the food overall.

Chelcy M.

Yelp
The service was nice. The waitress and manager checked on my husband and I constantly to see if everything was okay. The food portions are a nice size for the price. The food was good. My only complaint was the eggs did taste a bit watery to me. This is a brunch spot.

Chels B.

Yelp
I had the chilaquiles with chicken. Chicken was extremely dry. Sauce was just ok. Plate just lacked in my opinion. Husband had the ranchero omelet and he said it had no flavor. The meat was sandwich meat sliced up but was suppose to be skirt steak. Potatoes tasted like old grease. Service was attentive and the coffee was good. Not really wowed and has high expectations.

Judy B.

Yelp
Ate breakfast at the new Josephine's in Port Isabel. Fantastic!!! Service great. Nice place with lots of windows. And the food!!! Most of us got the Rooster. 2 eggs, 2 pieces of good crispy bacon, delicious hash browns and a waffle. $9.99. So much food for a great price. Also serve wonderful coffees.

Tee J.

Yelp
Everything was pleasant on first & second visit Would say best place on the island Food drinks service also Suzanna was the best

Mazi G.

Yelp
Excellent Excellent Excellent. We go here all the time for breakfast when we're visiting. Authentic and always fresh, hot, tasty, and ready to eat. This is a Mom n Pop restaurant, so please be patient with hostess and waitstaff. It is worth the wait. Menu has variety to all those hungry tummies for adults, seniors, and kids.

Foodie R.

Yelp
This place was pretty good! I believe that whoever owns Al's is either an owner or a partner in some way. I saw some similarities, but more importantly the "Al's sauce" was all over the place in there. I could be way off though! Anyway, gf got chicken and waffles and I got the breakfast sampler scrambled, with pancakes. Pretty good stuff, hit the spot for sure. The only complaint I have.. which is strange.. but my eggs tasted a bit funny. Could be a number of reasons... maybe griddle hadn't been super clean, their "butter substitute" or oil that they use on grill to cook food was not very good... not sure. Either way, we both enjoyed it!

Moquita Q.

Yelp
I'm bummed that I forgot to take pictures of the amazing chicken and waffles I had ordered from this establishment! They are one of the few breakfast restaurants that open as early as 6am! Their check was seasoned so well! I could taste the complex flavors of Cajun, black pepper, sea salt, paprika and more out of each and every bit of their chicken tenders. Yes, they do have chicken tenders but you could tell right away that they were cut and prepped in house and not store bought. They do give service discounts so if you are a police officer, military, emergency response, please ask. It's like 10% off. There is plenty of seating, I counted about 10 tables or so. They have a gift shop area full of homemade and local gifts and travelers can purchase and take back with them. The establishment gave sort of an earthy but classy feel. There were real plants and miniature trees scattered throughout that sort of made you feel like you were not at a restaurant but rather someone's beautiful yet poetic garden patio. It neighbors the beach area so not far of a walk from the sea.

Alyssa Q.

Yelp
Food was amazing , the service was amazing. Every bite you took was to perfection. Definitely recommend this place for some amazing breakfast foods. Our waiter Evelin was fantastic, made our experience 10 times better . Lovely place to come and try.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Get there early if you don't want a long wait or be patient because it's worth the wait! We started with a delicious Bloody Mary. My kids loved the French toast, I loved the Chilaquiles, and my husband loved Another Juan Omelette. Friendly Service!

Kyle D.

Yelp
So delicious!!! I will definitely be back when we're down there. The special was amazing hot fast fresh. The drinks were strong and tasted great.

Alvin H.

Yelp
The breakfast here was way better than I expected. Filling, decadent, tasty, scrumptious, and mmmm... are the words that comes to mind. The cinnamon role pancakes with eggs, sausage, and hash browns is what good breakfast looks like. The service was also great with a welcoming staff.

Mike V.

Yelp
When coming to SPI, we normally have or go-to breakfast places but we decided to try Josephine's based on the reviews and pictures. We were greeted and sat promptly into a cozy little dining area. Ordered a couple of Bloody Mary's which were quite delicious! (Probably the best thing we ordered) The food came back pretty quickly and it was hot. +++ THE GOOD: I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, my wife had the breakfast sampler, and father in law had the scrambler with chorizo. All were decent. Service was good. THE BAD: I asked for a to go container so my father in law could finish his meal at the condo. I ordered an extra flour tortilla so he'd have something to eat his chorizo and egg with. The server said "You already paid your bill." So I responded and said I wasn't asking for a free tortilla. She gladly brought "one order" of 2 tortillas and charged me $5.40!! WOW! Ok. So I paid it. Just thought that was a bit outrageous for 2 tortillas. BTW, bathrooms need to be cleaned and sanitized and deodorized. Just a PSA. Thanks

Ginger M.

Yelp
Stopped n on a recent sisters trip to SPI Amazing food, dog friendly and staff is great! Definitely worth the visit!!

Steve W.

Yelp
My wife and I usually have a few breakfast spots that we prefer for to go to, but this place had good reviews, so we stopped in here for the first time. It has a welcoming, spacious interior and a good vibe. However, the one thing that sets the tone for a good breakfast depends on how good the coffee is. The coffee was OK, but it did not rise to the level of Starbucks. My wife commented that it tasted like it was made from unfiltered Rio Grande water. They also do not offer turbinado sugar. Things took an upward swing when the food came out. The $10 Josephine sampler was far more than I expected and my wife's veggie omelette was super fresh and not salty. The pancakes were good, and they were served with warmed syrup, which tasted like the real thing, and may well have been true maple syrup. The service here was very attentive. It was nice that they do run your credit card at your table where you can choose your tip percentage and they do not charge a credit card fee like many other places do. The only recommendations I would advise is to laminate the menus and upgrade the coffee just a tad and this place would be a force to be reckoned with.

Mel W.

Yelp
Everything was excellent! The customer service is great. Delicious coffee drinks and our breakfast was outstanding! Very cutely decorated and close to the water beach vibe. We will definitely return!

Seika J.

Yelp
Mimosas by the pitcher! Heck yea! Choose your flavor or they'd be happy to mix two. Great service. They anticipate your needs which is HUGE! Water comes w lime. Prices are affordable. It doesn't have a view of the water, but it has plenty of parking and delicious breakfast. Enjoy!

Peter B.

Yelp
Good service excellent food definitely recommend Staff was very friendly rest was well maintained

Jean G.

Yelp
A great breakfast restaurant in South Padre. It's on the bay side, and you'll probably have to wait 10 minutes or so. But it is worth it! Not too big and very crowded, hence the wait. I tried the Le Rooster, and it was fantastic. No complaints here. Definitely recommend!

Roland C.

Yelp
Based on the photos alone, my wife and I had already decided that we would wait regardless of how long the wait was. It was definitely worth it. Our waitress Zoila was great!! Very attentive and prompt. She also had a great sense of humor. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious and the Josephine's sampler was just enough. I also saw them preparing a michelada and decided to order one. It was really refreshing. I highly recommend eating here if you decide to visit South Padre Island. Pay attention to the busiest times to visit and avoid it or be patient. We were lucky enough to avoid the rush and were seated within 10mins. We will definitely be back.

Earl A.

Yelp
Josephine's was recommended by a good friend of mine so on Saturday morning we visited. It was 2 couples and we were seated immediately in a booth. It was @ 9:30 and they were almost full and those arriving after us were having to wait. We started with mimosas and flavored coffee. They were both excellent. 3 of us ordered the Josephine sampler and one had shrimp and grits. The sampler was enough to feed two people! It consisted of 2 eggs, bacon, sausage and ham with either hash browns or grits and 2 huge pancakes. It was only ten dollars!Another excellent choice for the weekend. The shrimp and grits had spinach added and was taken in a to go box as it was also a lot. We had a small issue as one set of pancakes were cold but they made it right asap. They brought back another piping hot set. This will be my go to breakfast spot whenever I visit the island again.

Marisol D.

Yelp
As always delicious food and great staff! The ambiance was perfect as well and no waiting in line.

Melanie B.

Yelp
We decided we had to go here when we first saw it as it was my grandmothers name The food and service lived up to our hopes! I had the Juan More Omelet and it was delicious! I love chorizo but often times, I find restaurants replace chorizo with spicy sausage. Not here! It was great. I also had a vanilla latte and my daughter had the hot chocolate - the specialty coffee drinks take a minute because they are individually made and are soooo worth it! My daughter LOVED her hot chocolate. It was the best coffee I had on the island. I wish they had a coffee bar because I would have been there every morning of our trip! Everyone in my group was happy with their food and drinks. The service was great! The only issue was that there was water leaking from the air conditioning unit above our table onto one of us. We mentioned it to our waitress who acknowledge it but there were no efforts to address it. Otherwise, everything was great!

Alex P.

Yelp
Came here with some girlfriends on a Saturday morning around 10am for breakfast. It was crowded so good sign. I ordered the Josephine Plate with the eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancakes. The girls ordered biscuits & gravy, migas and an omelet. We also got some cinnamon bun pancakes for the table which were suuuuper rich, but good. I recommend sharing them! Everything was decent but lacked some flavor for me. I needed to keep salting and peppering my food which was weird. Overall good experience though as far as restaurants on the island go!

Steve S.

Yelp
Nice friendly service. Average food that is overpriced. I don't recommend coming here. Waffle was chewy and cold. Josephine Sampler came out cold. Enjoyed the Bailey's and coffee. Maybe just a bad day but they weren't busy so thus, the 3-star rating.

Trai M.

Yelp
Excellent Breakfast and Lunch Spot. Blackened Shrimp Benedict, Hash Browns, Chicken Tinders, Waffle Fries and Cold Dos Equis. 2 TNT Thumbs Up

Charles F.

Yelp
Probably the best breakfast on the island. Staff was great and the food was delicious. I couldn't finish it!! Flavor of michelada was incredible !!

Glenda A.

Yelp
Great food and service. Staff work well together so ur always taken care of. Prices are down home good. Very comfortable place. You HAVE to try the Dirty Al's hot sauce...made by owner...it's amazing!!! Enjoy

Joe C.

Yelp
Delicious food well prepared. Staff fast and friendly. Priced right. Atmosphere was nice, but very busy.

Blake L.

Yelp
Just overall bad. Our food came out cold and had the worst service I've ever had at any restaurant like who wants to come get treated bad on vacation? Also the managers were even worse then the servers who weren't that bad
