London’s Best Jerk Chicken | Where to Find Jamaican Jerk in London | Eater London

"Everyday is like a lottery at George’s First Jerk Catering, located on Croydon’s Surrey Street market. He doesn’t do jerk chicken everyday, but on the days he does, Croydon’s locals and visitors count themselves fortunate, with hungry office workers not around for now. There’s no kitchen backing the stall, so as Glen likes so tout, “once it’s gone, it’s gone.”" - Riaz Phillips

My mum and I always comes to this market to buy coconuts, and the service is always so friendly and welcoming. The man who sells them even called her a loyal customer, which really shows how much they value the people who shop here regularly. The coconuts are always fresh, and it’s clear they take pride in what they sell. It’s such a lovely, local spot with great energy. Highly recommend!

Visited here few times. You can also get fresh coconut water and sugarcane juice from here. Definitely recommended. This business has been here for over 10 years. The owner of this business is also an active local politician.

The sugar cane drink was truly remarkable. Observing the long line of people eagerly waiting for it, I couldn't resist trying it myself, and it was absolutely delicious. The vendor serving the drink had a delightful and welcoming demeanor.

I had to go to Croydon today and stumbled on Surrey Street Market and I'm so glad I did. What a joy it was, walking between the stalls, hearing the cry of the traders selling goods. The prices were great, the stall holders were so friendly and polite. There was so much fruit and veg on sale and it all looked delicious, and I can verify it tasted great as well. I just wish we had a market like this in Streatham. I will now be going to Surrey Street Market to buy my fruit and veg on a regular basis. Oh, by the way, the market has other items for sell like shopping trolleys, handbags, wallets, purses, household goods etc. So if you find yourself in Croydon, go and take a look, you won't be disappointed. Joseph's veg is the first stall on the market facing savers and poundland. They have a good range of fresh vegetables and fruit. My favourite findings were the young coconuts which cost about 3 quid!!!!

Great deals. I buy 3 good size punnets of raspberries for £1, strawberries and blueberries for £1 too. Also tender stem broccoli, asparagus £1. Best to buy soft fruit on or near the day you want to use it though as it is often very ripe.

Surrey Street Farmers market is an awesome fruit and veg market. At one end of Surrey Street you’ll find vegetable stores selling local and exotic veg at prices much cheaper than big supermarkets. At the other end of the street you’ll find street food stalls serving Thai, Caribbean, Jerk food. It’s mostly cash only and the veg usually costs £1/bowl. The market is most busy on Saturdays. It’s worth visiting the market all year round to see what seasonal veg is on offer.

Surrey street market has changed over the years. You can still get your fruit and vegetables and other bits and pieces. It very multicultural and has more restaurants from different nations.
