Google
Best Mexican-food restaurant i have ever visited. Staff is very friendly and accommodating to large parties, food is amazing at fair prices, and the frozen margaritas are enough by themselves to make anyone want to come back again. So good!

Kimberly Liston

Google
Jose's used to be great! The place to go to for decent Mexican food. The last couple times I was there, I didn't think they were great. Decided to give them one more try and it was horrible. We had our food in like 3 minutes which proves nothing was fresh. My chimichanga was soft and meat tasted funky. Lettuce tasted old. It was just yuck. So I will not be going again.

Joseph Brown

Google
Delicious! Good service, but hard to get to at the moment with the road closures. However, the food was excellent as was the margarita! The chips and salsa are a must have! My wife had the shrimp salad and I the enchiladas! There is another location in the Dells that my buddy recommended as well.

James B

Google
I have heard about this place from many people so I took the hour drive. By far the best Mexican meal I have ever had. The steak in my chimichanga was flavorful beyond my expectations. The staff is great right down the guy who welcomed us offering a table in the basement recently remodeled or the amazing roof table (joking of course)....totally worth it and I highly recommend

Google
Great food and absolutely fantastic service. We joined another hockey team for a joint team dinner and the staff provided the side room for us all to dine in. It was perfect. Our group was about 50, and the staff did a great job taking orders and getting food out quickly. It was an absolute joy and Jose should be proud of his great staff!

Google
Been coming here every few years when I'm in the Dells area. Always glad that I come. I got the especial el vallarta fajitas. Such a big portion for 18.99 and I took a lot back with me even though I am a big eater. A lot of places cost more for a fraction of the portions. Best part of the meal was talking with the owner, Jose. Such a nice man and was eager to talk and joke with customers and tell me more about the history of his restaurant and how they prepare some of the dishes. Will be back for more that is a certainty!

Google
This was my first time here. Very good atmosphere, I got to see a birthday you get to keep the sombrero. We sat down to eat at 6:30 and finished by 7. They were super fast with the food.

Mary Therese Staub

Google
We love this place. We came for the first time in Saturday night and had such a wonderful experience. Today is Tuesday and we went to the House on the Rock and planned to go eat somewhere else. However driving back we saw there billboard and said we had to come back one more time before we headed back home. This will be a definite come back for me when traveling back to the Dells in the future

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Delicious food always served shortly after ordering. Relaxing restaurant to meet friends.

Yelp
Scrumptious food, friendly staff, the aesthetic of the place was absolutely superb. WILL be coming back!!

Yelp
I wanted to try something new, so I landed here with my significant other. I had a good feeling I was about to be pleased. We were greeted and seated immediately. The booth we were seated at was comfortable. We were given complimentary chips and two different salsas. One salsa was red and thick. The other salsa was white and more of a thin liquid. All of it was great. It was all even better with salt and pepper. We even got another complimentary red salsa and chips. I tried them the same way and they were way better for some reason. From the House Blend Margaritas section, we ordered a Small Frozen Original Lime for 7.99 and a Small On The Rocks Original Lime for 7.99. The Frozen was hard to drink at first with it being so cold. The salt and lime on the rim helped. I enjoyed this drink, but it was definitely better after it melted a bit. The On The Rocks was fantastic! The salt and lime on the rim amplified the flavor. From the Beverages section, Pepsi Products were 3.50. I went with a Diet Pepsi. It was tasty and so was the free refill. From the Burritos section, I ordered the Burrito De Carne Asada. It was 7oz of steak burrito served with rice & beans. Topped with red sauce, cheese sauce, lettuce, pico de gallo, & sour cream. It was 14.99. I was surprised how fast it came out. The size was fair for the price it was. The steak overflowed out of the burrito after the first cut. This thing was full of flavor. The rice & beans were decent. I was pleased with the whole ensemble. The service started off great and then became spotty. It ended up picking up towards the end and finished off strong. Overall, I'm glad I stopped here to try it out. Everything was tasty and worth what I paid. I would probably come back again. Date of visit: 08/21/2024

Yelp
Food was amazing , amazing service , and looked beautiful . Comparing to other food place that are available in the area it's place served some amazing tasting authentic Mexican food. Person that served us was very nice . And place had some amazing artifacts and ambiance .

Yelp
I ordered a steak and chicken fajita. It was very good. My wife ordered ground beef Chimichanga it just ok. The two drinks we ordered were excellent. If piña colada and mango margarita. The service was very good.

Melissa K.

Yelp
We enjoyed Jose's Nacho Fajita's this past weekend, We found they were open still, with only minutes to spare, late this past Saturday night... They not only welcomed us to order our to go food, They were exceptionally kind! To make it even better, the food was delicious!! Will for sure be back! The food was fantastic and reasonably priced, great portion sizes!

Yelp
I'm not sure what the hype about this place is. I ordered the taco/burrito combo meal and it was super bland. I put a lot of cheese dip and salsa on it for flavor. The ranch dip is a nice touch. It's standard fair Mexican.

Todd C.

Yelp
This is strip mall Mexican food. Virtually everything is just Sysco served hot. Carne asada beef wasn't marinated. I don't think it was even seasoned before cooking. Salsa was Sysco. Not horrid. Just blah.

M O.

Yelp
Food was good. Marg ehhh! Good overall experience. Probably sgmhould have someone else answer phones...girl was not much help or encouraging. She wanted us to know they couldn't split checks over 6. Wr took 14. What a pain! Drinks were weak. But food was good and fast. Nice place with lots of room. How much can it cost to have software to split checks? Or is it just laziness? What if we all just sat few feet apart really?

Yelp
Awesome food and service! Fun ambiance and delicious meal! Will absolutely come back here again!

Yelp
3 carnitas tacos! Wow! The spice kicks, careful. Carnitas was full flavored with bark! Plenty of meat, lots of cilantro and raw onions (which might be a turn off for some, but not for me. Only down side was a single tortilla. Just what I needed. #spicemeister approved!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant decor. Very colorful and fun. Was unable to get photos of dining area due to it being small and full of diners. Not a large dining area. Service was quick and friendly. Chips were provided with salsa and a creamy southwest sauce that was very tasty. I got a beef burrito, enchilada, and tostada. My wife got a hard shell taco meal. This is fairly basic Mexican cuisine but was done well. We will visit again.

Shawn M.

Yelp
Great Mexican food. We have eaten in and carried out. Tough to get into now per the construction.

Stephanie D.

Yelp
This place is a must see. Not being from Baraboo and as we came through the town we were looking for something different! This place doesn't disappoint Great food, margaritas were good! Wait staff amazing! Check this place out you will not be disappointed! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Jose is the most authentic Mexican food that I have been able to find anywhere in this area. I'm from Southern California and I know what real good Mexican food taste like and these guys have it down. Not only that they are super friendly very accommodating and I would recommend this business to any person that wants some real good Mexican food. Their prices are comparable if not better than other places as well. If you want a great experience go to Jose's. By the way their margaritas are awesome!

Samantha B.

Yelp
Meh.. I think because I'm from california and have been spoiled my whole life with absolutely amazing authentic Mexican food I was extremely disappointed in this place.. I could have made better food at my own home than I got here..

Yelp
We stopped here to have a break from all the american food (burgers and sandwhiches) we've been eating at Wisconsin dells. Good thing we did! Love the atmosphere, the chaos, the vibe and the people. The place is lively and has its unique decors and ambiance. Love the service. Love the food. Portion size is amazing! I could definitely eat here over and over again; if only i live in this area. Has free chips and salsa. Large entrees. Grilled chicken is tasty, moist and tender Well prepared meals, well cooked and were served at a proper temperature. Their menu is quite big, few pages long. There's definitely something for everybody on this restaurant.

Yelp
Thursday afternoon about 4pm, 2-3cars parked outside, not busy, waiter male short hair in his late 20s early 30s, not sure what language he speaks as the entire time of 1 hour he did not speak a word to us, appeared unfriendly, eyes staring at me as i found a seat and sat down on my own. He did not talk, did not smile, simply stared at me. a moment later, a waitress came with a basket of corn chips, as i was expecting a basic greeting or even a smile or greeting from at least one person, she uttered no sound or showed any facial expression. I felt strange, went out of the restaurant, perhaps just felt uncomfortable...soon, I decided to come back to the restaurant, reasons trivial (chips already on table, food waste is as bad as starving people, eating buddy already on the move with heavy duty rollator that is hard to retract). After the meal, i went to the desk to break a large bill for tips, the same short hair man was covering the desk, apparently temporarily, he apparently understood my intention, without asking for clarification: yet, he speaks no hint of words, not even "ok", "eh", simply changed the bill from his own pocket, while maintaining a completely unchanged poker face. I am still wondering what I did wrong or what clothes i wore that may have caused these stern faces and silence toward me. I had a bad experience, though food is good enough.

Yelp
Having heard good local reviews, my dad (whom I was visiting in Baraboo) and I decided to do take-out to give Jose's a shot. First plus: speed of service. I called from across town to place the order. The guy on the other end of the line was quick and efficient. He said it'd be ready in 10-15 minutes. I didn't rush, and probably got there in about 12 minutes. The place was pretty busy, so I figured I might be waiting. I walked in, and shortly a server came up to me, got my order number, and returned immediately with my food. I was in-and-out of there in probably less than three minutes. Second (real) plus: food. Dad had the Dinner Special #23 - one burrito, one taco (both ground beef) and Mexican rice and beans. I had the Pollo San Jose (chicken, shrimp, scallops, vegetables, and Mexican rice with cheese sauce & tortillas). We shared a small guacamole dip. Wow! The Pollo San Jose was amazing. The cheese sauce complemented everything well, but there still were distinct flavors of chicken, shrimp, and scallops. I would absolutely order it again. The guacamole dip was among the best I've ever had, and there were two other dips included (a salsa and a seasoned sour cream) that were great, too. The only drawback I could point to is that a few of the tortilla chips that came with the dips were maybe slightly beyond their prime. In all, I look forward to the next time I'm back in town to venture back to Jose's. The real question will be: Pollo San Jose again or try something else?

Yelp
We LOVE the staff and the service. The food is... solidly mediocre. Sometimes bland, kinda greasy, doesn't taste like fresh ingredients. Sorta OK Mexican food for small town Wisconsin, but doesn't measure up otherwise.
google avatar

Zach J.

Yelp
Really incredibly subpar food. Service was lacking and the dining area was boring and lackluster.

Yelp
I saw my last review -I should have given it five stars, that's my only review update. Awesome celebration for Cinco de Mayo, complete with a mariachi group walking throughout. Another great night here!

Yelp
I really enjoyed it here! We came here when I visited my maid of honor. It was really busy on a weekend, but our wait was only about 5-10 minutes. The waiting area conveniently has chairs, but the hallway is so narrow that there's no way to sit comfortably. My drink came out promptly. I ordered a tequila sunrise. It was totally strong and worth the money, but not as sweet as I would have liked. The food was phenomenal! We all ordered different things. I got a steak burrito with their verde sauce and some extra sour cream. It was yummy. The service was friendly but a bit slow. Also this kid came around to all the tables to try and preform magic tricks? I didn't like that because I didn't ask for it. I think it's rude to interrupt people's dinner to try to make money for mediocre magic. We shooed him away and he obliged. Parking lot was packed! But we were able to find a spot. If I were to come back to Baraboo, I'd definitely want to come back to this place.

C T.

Yelp
It's that local mex food place. You already know the menu. They have what you're thinking of. Chili relleno test - batter is a bit thick. Pepper normal. Cheese Monterrey/stretchy. 3 stars Mega beer only. Giant portions.
google avatar

Marc W.

Yelp
I have never given 5 stars to a place that started out so rough. We were seated promptly but then waited no less than 10 minutes for any server to come to our table. The dining room had no more than 8 tables filled, there were at least 7 different servers taking care of folks and we sat there waiting. And waiting. And waiting. When the table ahead of us were seated and served within 60 seconds I almost lost it. But there's something about service recovery. Our server Rafael started with an apology, took our full order and ran off. Drinks in 2 minutes. Food in 5 more. And both were amazing. California burrito. Fajitas. Fried ice cream. Maragaritas. The side of hot sauce is well worth the upcharge. The decor is super cool. Everything that can be painted was and delightfully so. By the end we're happy enough with everything to want a 25% tip. Sometimes all it takes is an apology and a kitchen that knows what it's doing.

Jennifer K.

Yelp
We got chips and salsa and sat there... and sat there. No one took our drink orders. No one came. We had seen 3 parties sit after us. We finished our chips and salsa and still no one came. We finally left after seeing a manager check on the tables around us but no one acknowledged us. Wow. Lost us as customers. Said so to the 5 hostesses just standing by the door. Why????

Yelp
Terrible experience. I received the saddest nachos I have ever consumed in my entire life. These "nachos" aside from being cold, had stale chips, I don't know how they cooked the chicken but it was inedible. These "nachos" also had no cheese, THEYRE CALLED NACHOS SUPREME IM EXPECTING A SUPREME NACHO EXPERIENCE!! Not some sub par sad nacho experience. Also the flavors were bland and just overall the worst nachos I've ever had in my entire life. Not to mention the service was horrible. They can't even get tacos right! Who serves COLD TACOS, actually, how hard is it to serve tacos warm. ITS A MEXICAN RESTAURANT! IF THEY CANT EVEN GET TACOS RIGHT, come on they can't get anything right. It's tacos, simple easy tacos, come on. Oh and don't get the chefs salad (if you're crazy or stupid enough to go to this place) because you'll receive a large plate of tomato slices topped with cheese and a few shreds of lettuce. Completely flavorless and worthless, kinda like most of the food they serve. The decorations are pretty but come on it's like the Kim kardashian of Mexican restaurants. FAKE!! Pretty looking but I'd never eat there ever again. Horrible absolutely disgraceful. I've had better service with little taco carts in the streets, BETTER FOOD TOO! Ok rant over seriously unless you wanna test your luck don't go there. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star, I honestly don't know where any of the good reviews come from unless they're fake, Gordon Ramsey would have a field day on this place.

Yelp
I would give this place 4.5 stars, but I can't do 5 for just a couple of reasons, and since we can't leave 4.5 stars I had to go with 4... but, I first want to say don't miss eating here if you get a chance and you like Tex-Mex as that's what is served here. I've lived in two border towns, El Paso and San Diego and I've had a lot of Mexican food over the years. It's my second favorite food and this place is up near the top of my list for good Mexican food. So, what did my wife and I order? My wife had the Lunch Special #6 for $6.25, Two chicken enchiladas served with rice, lettuce, sour cream and tomato and I had the Special Dinner for $12.99, One tamale, one chile relleno, one enchilada, one taco, one chalupa, rice and beans. I really wanted to sample as many types of food as I could (I didn't finish this gigantic meal, I brought half of it home to eat later). First, let me say that any criticism I have is minor, but keeps me from giving a full 5 stars. Our service was way above average and our server was attentive and nice. He would get 5 stars from me any day. The two things I have to say are that the refried beans are just soupy. I like mine with some half mashed beans still in existence and a much thicker "mashed" part. I prefer sharp cheddar cheese sprinkled on mine. Next is just a comment about the tamale. The beef tamale I got was OK, but the only tamale I really like is made with pork, not chicken nor beef. In my mind the Mexican woman who cooked for us when I was a teen (our maid) never made beans like these nor anything but pork tamales. So, I believe to this day (over 40 years later) that she made us some of the best Tex-Mex anyone will ever eat... just my opinion of course. My wife really enjoyed her chicken enchiladas and I found my beef enchilada & the sauce very good. The tamale was just average, the sauce was good, the relleno was spicy, the way I like them and very tasty, the sauce was great! The beef taco was about average (made with ground beef), as I prefer a shredded beef taco (but it's a small thing). The rice was better than average with some nice color, not faded out like most of it usually is. The dipping sauces were really good, especially the Queso they served us. The salsa was very tasty and we ate all of the chips we were served as they were very fresh! I can't wait to bring my daughter (a native Texan) and her husband here for some good Mexican food. Two big thumbs up for this place and while it is a 45 minute drive from where I'm staying right now, I'll drive that any day to eat here.

Faith F.

Yelp
Great food and service. I went here two nights in a row. Atmosphere is colorful and loud in a good way. The staff seem to enjoy their job and check in on you consistently. If I'm back in the area, I'll come here again!

Natalya J.

Yelp
I can not express the love that is in Joses.... the guests are family and the workers are family...this is hands down the best restaurant I've ever been to in all 45 states I've been.... the food is absolutely DELICIOUS n super fast and the ambiance is stunning... plz come and visit... I pray they make a ton more of this restaurant because it's beyond worth it on so many levels

Yelp
Food was on point! Service was on point! Definitely will be coming back and recommending to my friends! The food is homemade and so fresh and delicious. The sauces and cheese dips are outstanding and not over-salted like at so many other restaurants. The service was friendly and food came out hot and quick. The prices are reasonable. I ordered the Burrito California -- it was phenomenal! Make sure to check this place out if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
My family ate here for lunch with our two young girls. The service and food were both outstanding!!! The staff came over and played with our girls and were so loving and genuine in their interactions with them. It melted my heart!! The food was amazing, too! So savory and delicious!! We will absolutely be back!!! Thank you Jose's!!!

Yelp
Where to start..... look I guess if u have no other options for Mexican go here. But this isn't authentic and you could save a lot of money going to Taco Bell. ‍ It takes the cake for the worst Mexican food I've ever had. 1.Chips and salsa. Came with a very strange ranch, dip. Salsa taste mostly fake and tweaked 2. Guacamole. Frozen 3. Queso Dip. Chorizo over seasoned and OVER salted to death. Cheese was a sauce like white nacho cheese sauce not actual cheese. 4. House Margaritas. ( made with patron according to server). All margaritas pre made and sour mix came from huge jug on counter taste like lemonade. 5.fajitas came out luke warm, under seasoned, and pre made. 6.Carne Asada burrito came out as two enchiladas. Wrong item No pre bussing and hard tortillas. Windows caked with dirt and dust. I'm hungry and I'm sad.

Yelp
This was our first experience with Joses's and probably the last. We went there because it was recommended. Our waiter wasn't very good. He wasn't able to read his notes or something. He came back TWICE to confirm our order and he still got it wrong. Maybe he needs glasses because he called my wife sir and she definitely doesn't look like a sir, smh! We didn't order anything odd off of the menu, but asked for no cheese or sour cream on my veggie burrito and substituted rice for beans on my wife's veggie fajitas. Of course when he brought out my food food it had cheese all over it. My son ordered a carne asada burrito, but got some kind of plate. The food was okay, but very overpriced for what we got. My burrito was very small. It had some rice and some salad thing, but for $11.99, I was expecting more. My wife asked to substitute rice for beans, but the waiter never said there was going to be an additional charge. If he did, she would have kept the beans and just added the rice. Maybe our waiter was having a bad day, but definitely not his finest hour. We left feeling really disappointed

Yelp
Lunch specials are amazing - great value. Massive menu with a ton a variety. Things that are spicy and things that are not. Beans, no beans. Guac, no guac. There are enough options that everybody will find something they like even if they are not a big fan of Mexican food. And don't get me started on the MARGS! 2 for 1 (any size) Monday-Wednesday. They are incredible. Doesn't get any better.
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
Love their food. Had great service for our party of 7. AttentivE and courteous waitstaff. They noticed we had a b'day gift for our grandson, and brought him a wonderful ice cream Sunday and sang him a birthday song in Spanish. It was fantastic, and really made his day. Another great Baraboo restaurant you shouldn't miss.
google avatar

Gracie R.

Yelp
best experience ever!!!! 10/10 recommend . we came here on a ski trip from illinois and they went above and beyond for celebrating my friends bday!!!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Food was amazing and so was the service! We showed up during dinner rush and was seated right away. Service was ready right away and food was very quick. The Chile Relleno was amazing and so were the many items we had. Beef had a good flavor and a proper amount of spice. Prices were very fair and portions were big. If you are in the area, make sure this is one of your stops.
google avatar

Elyse S.

Yelp
We stopped by with 3 kids and two moms in desperation for dinner while visiting Baraboo. They seated us quickly and served the food quickly. It was a bit chaotic/loud as we were right near the kitchen and cash register, but kept all of us contained well. The food was good and they even had a yummy NA margarita for this preggo mama! I order the Coctel de camarones which is a favorite of mine and was please with the presentation and taste. The kids meals were good sized and the other mama enjoyed her food. Overall, good and fresh tasting authentic Mexican. The service was ok but they were very busy and we were understanding.

Krista K.

Yelp
Don burrito with raspberry margarita was so good. All of the staff are wonderful. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Gregory G.

Yelp
Tried the food truck today. Roams the Sauk, Baraboo, Boscebel areas and finally tracked them down this afternoon. Very fresh tasting ingredients with generous portions! Very tasty. They are on Facebook...and post their locations often. Try the, out...you'll be pleased.
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
If I could give this 0 stars I would. Went for steak tacos and grilled chicken, that's it. Waited over an hour and a half and still had no food, complained to manager and it came out super cold. My kids were literally crying and fell asleep. I still had to pay $59! Are you kidding me? Worst service I've ever had in my life. My entire meal should have been free. Never again, I've worked customer service and this meal should have been free. Totally unacceptable

Mary B.

Yelp
food is always amazing. love this place! you won't be disappointed no matter what you order!
google avatar

Becky P.

Yelp
I found this place through google maps while traveling up to the Wisconsin Dells, the location is a bit out of the way compared to there restaurants you can pick from in the Dells but it is hands down amazing!! My husband still talks about their pork tacos, nothing has compared to those yet around Chicago! I really enjoyed the fajitas and the chips and salsa are yummy as well! I can't wait to visit there again, 2 years in a row has not disappointed!!
google avatar

Sameer A.

Yelp
Stopped by on out way from our trip to devils lake we were treated with complimentary chips and salsa , the salsa Blanca is very flavorful it is sour cream mixed with spices and 5 different kinds of peppers . For the main dish we ordered chicken fajitas and delmar ( crab shrimp and scallops ) which was so delicious highly recommend that .

Rosemary G.

Yelp
Favorites are the Chile Colorado, the fajita quesadilla and the Fajitas Jalisco. Good people with delicious food, quick and their to-go is also ready quickly every time.

Lori L.

Yelp
We ate there and ordered a lot of food. Everyone loved their selections. Be careful not to eat too many chips with their yummy salsa and cheese sauce while waiting for your food. Their outdoor patio was comfortable and quiet. We all shared a pitcher of margaritas. Service was prompt, courteous and efficient.
google avatar

Serena M.

Yelp
Always my favorite place. Nice portion sizes, salsa is on POINT. The fajitas are so flavorful. Whenever I'm in town this place is a MUST

Holly G.

Yelp
big disappointment!!! husband and self have been to Mexico 18+ times in our lives. We were so looking forward to some authentic Mexican cuisine. Not the case. So terrible. Ordered a seafood enchilada it was so gross. Have you ever had potatoes and carrots anywhere in Mexican food??? Any way sad sad experience. Will likely never go back. Plus they charged us $16.00 extra for a higher quality tequila. Wasn't any in the margarita. We are both well versed in drinking tequila. Bad bad eating establishment!!!!
