Jose's Tacos

This place is one of my go-to spots for tacos, so much so that I sometimes find myself here once a week! My usuals are the fried flour taco dinner and the chicken chimichanga dinner. The food is always consistent, fresh, and packed with authentic Mexican flavors. The portions are decent, but if you’re a big eater, you might want to order a little extra. One of the perks of this spot is that parking is always available, even in the heart of the busy Eastern Market area. The staff is small, so patience is key, but they do a great job. I’ve dined inside a few times, and while the space is small, the service has always been solid. If you’re in the area and craving flavorful, reliable Mexican food, I definitely recommend checking it out!

This place is fantastic. I loved the chicken taco!! My girlfriends and I all got a single taco as we ate our way through Eastern Market - veggie, beef, and chicken. The server at the counter was very kind and offered helpful recommendations. I really can’t believe I’ve never tried this before. I’ll definitely be coming back!!!

ONE OF THE BEST TACOS IVE HAD IN A WHILE. AMAZING ATMOSPHERE AND THE SERVER GIRL WAS SO KIND!! WOULD COME HERE EVERY DAY IF I LIVED IN THIS AREA. 100000% RECOMMEND.

I ordered over the phone and my total came up to over $66.00. Part of my order was wrong when I went to pick it up. The young man at the cash register asked a young lady if she took the order. The young lady said yes and told me that she repeated the order three times over the phone. She then gave me a blank silent stare, as if to insinuate that it was my fault. She told me that the order was already made so I would have to pay for it as is. I told her that I could not afford to pay for the additional item and the item that I wanted. She replied, "Oh well I repeated the order three times and I'm not throwing any food away.". The young lady DID NOT REPEAT THE ORDER AT ALL! I asked to speak to a manager and she called someone over the phone. The young lady began to tell her inaccurate version of the story by starting the conversation with, "There is a man in here that wants you to tell him no!". I told the young lady that I wanted to talk with the manager and she replied, "I'm not handing you my phone!". I asked her to put it on speaker. She complied but the manager simply repeated the young lady's version of the story. I also called my family to verify the order and my sister told me to pay for the order as is to eliminate any more trouble. I paid for the order and told the young lady she could have been more nice. She replied, "I'm nice to those who are nice to me, and you're rude!" Out of frustration, I tossed the pen I signed with behind the counter. The young lady yelled, "Don't you be throwing nothing in here!".She also yelled what sounded like an insult in Spanish. I told her that will not come back to this restaurant. She replied, "Oh well, bye bye, we have plenty more customers.

I usually get pretty good food from Jose’s but today my Asada fries were VERY disappointing. All of the fries were Soggy, old and blackened/beat up

I don't know how have I not seen this place before? It's small dining area so a large group won't work. The service was good. Our waitress was also taking care of take out orders so she was quick but patient. I ordered the three taco dinner. The beef was good and so was the shrimp. The chips and salsa was not bottomless. My wife ordered the chicken flautas. We would recommend and we will come back.

Loaded at wolverine packing and walked to this amazing spot food is 10/10 I’m surprised to find such gem of a Mexican restaurant

I always love the food and the staff are friendly enough, but what are your ACTUAL hours? There have been too many times when Google has said you were open and you weren't. The location doesn't even have hours visibly posted anywhere. Please do better with updating your hours

I LOVE Jose's Tacos. I've been going there with my family since they've opened. Amazing costumer service, shout out to my ladiessss Alma and Michelle . So sweet and were amazing! They provided amazing costumer service and helped me with some math calculations that were super easy , so they definitely deserve employee's of the month and a raise....... Anyways in conclusion, I would absolutely suggest this restaurant to anyone looking who's visiting or just looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant and definitely go visit my girls Alma and Michelle and leave them SUPER big tips .

Great location in Eastern market. The Travis with crispy flour tortilla are yummy! Good rice & beans. Very friendly service.

It's so hard to find good tacos in Metro Detroit and Jose's always hits the spot. Perfect before/after strolling through Eastern Market.

I was so excited to hear that Jose's Taco's opened a second location at Eastern Market, because their my favorite local Mexican food spot. I discovered their downtown location off Grand River by accident many years ago and have been a fan ever since. I was able to have breakfast here on Saturday morning after a day of shopping at the Market for flowers and such. They have a great menu, and it's really hard to go wrong with what they serve. I went with the Huervos Rancheros for breakfast and it was delicious. I was tempted to get their tacos but wanted to try something different on their menu. I was not disappointed! Prices here are fair and there's plenty of seating within. While it's not a fancy place, the foods good and that's what matters. Make sure to pay cash to save the extra fees on cards that I think they *might* charge if used. Also, their closed on Sunday's, so go sooner than later!

Amazing authentic Mexican food. It's a small place and always seems to be busy - for a good reason. Their burritos and fajitas are amazing. Didn't get around to their tacos or enchiladas yet but I am sure they will not disappoint. Very glad we've discovered that place.

Tucked away in Eastern Market in Detroit, this little spot delivers great taste. We ate in and out service was excellent. I was hoping to order fajitas as it is my go to dish, but the closest they come is a fajita burrito. They keep it clean and the staff works very hard. If you're in the area, I recommend you give them a try!

The staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable. They are located in the Eastern Market area. The food I ordered was prepared expeditiously. It's flavorful and be sure to bring your appetite because the burritos are huge!!

Situated in gorgeous Eastern market. The workers are nice. I've been here twice. First time I just got regular steak tacos and they were just alright. And the second time I got the carne fries which was pretty good but not the best I've had. They have a lot of stuff on the menu so maybe I'm missing out on some of the other stuff but this place doesn't stand out to me.

Stopped in for lunch. 10/10 would recommend. Staff was great and the tacos were amazing. Will definitely be back!

Great food! They need a bigger location, it was out the door with folks waiting to get their deliciousness and became a cluster with the poor servers trying to go in and out.

Laura was our waitress and her customer service was superb! Gave us samples of fresh fruit waters and went thoroughly through the menu. The sauces(green and red salsa)were watery. The deep fried tacos were fresh but lacked flavor. I will return to try other things. It's very busy and it seems a lot of people patronize this establishment.

Absolutely delicious! Both the asada fries and burrito were packed with flavor! Service was quick - even on cinco de Mayo, my order was ready within 15 minutes!

This place reminds me of the authentic Mexican restaurants around Chicago. The food was awesome and the fast pace made for a tasty and exciting meal.

I'm so happy that Jose's Tacos has moved into the Eastern Market neighborhood. This area was starting to get a bit homogeneous. Jose's is a fantastic place for Mexican cuisine. My first visit was for a traditional pancake breakfast. It was just what I wanted. Next time, I stopped by for lunch break after market shopping. It was another perfect hit. A chance visit for dinner after work, the restaurant was open and as usual the food and service hit all the right spots. The menu has all the favorites, plus some - the sampler plates are my latest faves. If you're into pop Mexican music, dine in and enjoy the ambiance. During the nice weather, there are tables outdoors. So if you can't get over to Southwest Detroit but can make it to the market district, go ahead and hit up Jose's.

Simple but flavorful food, worth going back for! Chicken taco was my fav. of the Shrimp, chorizo and chicken tacos we got. (I won't do the crunchy taco again - it was fried, too oily for me) Tamarind water and Hibiscus water were both soooo good. Unique finds. Staff was friendly, service was pretty quick. Indoor seating looked limited. Spent about $30 for 4 tacos, with side of rice and beans , churros and 2 drinks. To help compare, Condado Taco are sort of different category. probably not very authentic, but more flavor options, customization available there. Something you would not have everyday. This was lighter...

Jose's Tacos is a great spot to grab authentic tacos in Eastern Market! This was waaaaayyyyyy overdue! I was happy to see dining inside was allowed (during Covid), because it is a small establishment. In the small time we were there smashing our amazing lunch I noticed they ran through a lot of carry out orders. It was very organized, with two lines: one for order and one for pick up. It was a Tuesday lunch rush. The food was very good! I took advantage of the fresh squeezed watermelon juice, which was fantastic! I haven't had it since I stayed in San Francisco back in the 90's. Super refreshing! The street tacos were tender and tasty, the meat was cubed, and they were served on 6" tortillas, so they're a little larger than the usual street taco. The rice and beans were really good! The tacos were also served with a pile of sweet caramelized onions, which was a tasty surprise! I guess this is location #2, the other one is located over by The Belt downtown. Give Jose's Tacos a try, you will always come back!

Get the wet burrito. The service was really good. Go up to counter to purchase and they bring it to you. Took 5 minutes for my burrito to come out. Right next to Eastern Market

Soy de Los Angeles, pero yo vivo en Detroit. The food at Jose's satisfies a Midwestern tongue...it's not the real deal, as I am accustomed to, from LA or Texas. It works when one is in a pinch...

This time I had the Wet burrito,shredded chicken,beans, melted cheese and ranchero sauce. This was incredible the flavors are taste bud knock out. The chicken was moist and tender. The ranchero was flavorful not spicy there as grilled onion on top to bring it home. I also had my favorite menu item grilled chicken taco with white onion and cilantro doesn't sound like much but the flavor combinations are incredible. Started with chips and salsa which are very good, the chips are not greasy at all the salsa mild. Tried the Hibiscus water that was very tasty not overly sweet. The dining area is clean and service is great.

Very cute and delicious! I got a combo plate with a tamale, enchilada and taco. I will definitely be going again!! Staff were very kind. Amazing authentic Mexican cuisine in eastern market! Safe to say I cleaned my plate :)

I've been a faithful and happy Jose's Tacos customer for years. The food and service are always fantastic. I highly recommend their burgers or their botanas. You won't be disappointed.

I've always eaten at the smaller Jose's downtown but we stopped in today on a whim. It's slightly larger than the downtown location and cheerful. Brenda was our server and she was very helpful. She answered all our questions and was very attentive even though she was the only server at the time. I highly recommend stopping by!

The fruit waters are amazing...service was top notch. We had a group of 4 and the food was amazing and authentic!! Illl be back for more this summer!!

Jose's Tacos is a welcome addition to Eastern Market. I got a combination plate and my boyfriend got a burrito, so we tried a little bit of everything. I would definitely say the tacos are the best item on the menu (tamale second), well-rounded bites of balanced flavors and textures. Everything else was so-so, but this place is just around the corner, the tacos were great, and the atmosphere was, too, so it is an easy, regular choice for us. Make sure to try one of their infused drinks at the front (I had hibiscus) for something different and unique to Jose's. I also love that they are open more often than many neighboring businesses.

I walked out after a 33 minutes I waited for 2 Street tacos. ' I'm checking' & 'What was your order again? ' I sat and watched other patrons enter the the business, order and dine before me. Service was simply awful. First and last visit. Never again.

Taco -holic!!!! The wet burrito really hit the spot! Cheesy, saucy and stuffed to perfection!! You can hold this big blanket burrito but trust me it's worth every bite. Steak tacos are also slamming !

I'm from SoCal. This is THE style of taco joint that makes me feel like I'm home again. Haven't felt this way in years. We got the taco dinners (three tacos, rice and beans), one set fried, one set soft. Both perfect! Eat here.

This place is how Mexican should taste. Rich in flavors, not everything spicy hot where you can't eat. I've had the enchilada, quesadilla, chips and salsa, street corn, and wet burrito. It's all delicious!! It's a tiny place, not a lot of seating, but staff is nice, food is made fresh and it's just sooooooo good. You have to place your own order, but you can have a seat and they will bring it out to you. Very good. They make their own drinks as well as having various sodas like both Coke and Pepsi in cans along with bottled water. I like the fact they use seasonings that produce great flavors. The beans and rice that make up the dinner are typical, but everything else is fantastic. The street corn was worth the wait.

Pulled into a receiver in the area. Never been to Detroit but now I'm glad I did. We decided to walk down the urban side streets in search of lunch. We always say yes to tacos so when we spotted the restaurant we said yes. I haven't had chorizo in years sonon a whim I ordered steak and chorizo tacos. Oh I was in heaven. I forgot how I longed for that tangy taste. You order at the counter then they bring it to you. It was fast and tasted like heaven. If I go back to the receiver I'm on it.

Watermelon water + street corn = absolutely fantastic. I literally shouted at a group of people walking by that they had to get the corn. Husband had a fried chorizo taco, also amazing. This new location also has a lot of seating (indoor & outdoor), which is nice.

This place. This F^cking place.. like do you need a taco that is even worse for your cholesterol? YES YOU DIRTY TACO LOVER, you need it.. in fact you need this corn taco deep fried and filled with all of the tasty meats and toppings. Anyways tacosluts, it's really good here. You should look at the menu before entering.. it's overwhelming once you actually have to order and the pressure is on you. DONT MESS UP! Lol, you cannot mess up, Haha it's all tasty here

My second time getting food and it was absolutely awesome. I got a fish taco, shrimp taco with a deep fried shell, I also got a tampiquena (steak) meal. It was so good I will keep going back. You won't be disappointed trying this restaurant and the staff is always very welcoming!!

We get carry-out on 'Taco Tuesday' every week now. Consistently good portions and fast service at a reasonable price, Jose's is the best ! ! !

The food and the service was exceptional. I had a two tacos. A shrimp and a beef and with ever bite I felt a little close to perfection. Everything was really good and authentic.

I wish Gordon Ramsay would get ahold of this place because it has potential. The people who work here are lovely. And helpful. And there aren't really any great taco places in the area. The problem is the food. The guacamole they served us was brown. The chips were stale. And the tacos were meh. I think it's just that the quality of the ingredients wasn't great. The chicken pieces were small and dry. The flavors were bland. We tried the grilled chicken, the shredded chicken, the potato and the chorizo.The shining star was the chorizo taco which was a stand out because it was decent--a three star taco in the midst of one and twos. And the crispy corn shells, although a little over cooked, weren't bad.

I was not impressed. The food had absolutely no flavor. The beef was dry. My chimichanga had melted cheddar cheese and that was all I tasted. Pick, salsa and chips no taste.

Great place to get some Tacos . Very friendly staff and great environment. Had the 3 tacos meal and a pop. Will be going back and telling friends and family about Jose's Tacos.

Delicious! I had the dinner with steak, grilled chicken and al pastor tacos in soft corn tortillas . Grilled onions and fresh cilantro were perfect. Best refried beans I've ever had - great flavor with a little kick. They were very helpful in choosing my meal and super fast. Down the street from Detroit Distillery so start or end with fabulous cocktails!

Tried Jose's Tacos for the first time this week and I will definitely be back. I got three soft flour tacos- grilled chicken, pulled chicken and chorizo- and they were all equally delicious. I also tried their hibiscus infused water and it was amazing! If you haven't tried Jose's Tacos yet, you're missing out!
