Some of the best tacos around. The food is delicious, it’s not too expensive and the staff is super nice. It’s a family owned business. There’s some tables to sit outside so you can enjoy the nice weather. I definitely recommend. I go at least once a week.

Came here after visiting the Eastern Market and this place was busy. Got seated quick and were able to order and get our food pretty soon after that as well. Food was super good. Personally wasn’t a fan of the cheese in the Jose’s snack but the guac and salsa were good.

This was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had, in any city! Jose's Tacos is a tiny little hole in the wall restaurant down a side street in Downtown Detroit - blink and you might miss it! There are take-out and dine-in options available, with a few tables both inside and outside the front entrance. It definitely seems to be a family-run place with a lot of pride in their food. We were lucky enough to stumble across this gem when looking at reviews of Mexican restaurants in the city. It was a close walk (about 10 minutes) from our hotel, the GM Renaissance Centre. They have an extensive menu with Mexican favourites, as well as full breakfast options, and they open early (9 a.m.)! We wanted an afternoon 'snack' so opted for the tacos with fried corn tortilla shells (beef, fish and chicken). They also had other hard and soft shell flour and corn tortilla options, as well as both fried and non-fried. The meat was so juicy and flavourful and the veggies were very fresh and tasty! They were not overly stuffed, but I found the amount of food to be filling enough. You can get up to three toppings, or pay an additional .25 for extra toppings. We also tried the house-made pineapple water and wow - it was absolutely outstanding! There were small pieces of fresh pineapple and it tasted like an amped up version of pineapple juice So refreshing on a hot and humid day. We loved it so much we came back with friends before our flight left the next day. We opted to try a smothered burrito plate, regular burrito plate, enchilada/taco/tamale plate and a breakfast. The plates all came with refried beans (so creamy and flavourful) as well as Mexican rice (perfectly cooked). It was my first tamale, and I thought it was quite moist and delicious. The enchilada, tacos and burritos were all so tasty and perfectly cooked. The breakfast was also great! We found the portions to be the perfect amount of food. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable- they were very happy to help with the menu and offer suggestions. 10 out of 10 recommend for a great Mexican food experience!

Google
The service was top notch! We were greeted promptly when we entered and treated wonderfully the entire time. The food was absolutely amazing, so fresh and the flavors were spot on. It is small, not a lot of seating but it was clean and the perfect lunch spot! Perfect for carry out too!

Google
Is an excellent place to eat. The food was great, the ladies in the front were so wonderful, and I love how quant the restaurant is. I am from Florida but when I come back you I will defiantly eat there again.

Google
Understated little taco joint exploding with authentic flavor. This is one of those places you can easily visit once a week. Very inexpensive for what you get! I have no photos of the food because we were busy devouring it.

Google
Best taco spot in downtown Detroit. The Al pastor on soft corn tortillas is top tier. The people who run the place are very nice. Not much room to sit and eat but it's a cool atmosphere. Also don't sleep on their burger or carne asada fries

Google
This is a popular place! As I waited for my tacos, several people came to pick up their to-go orders. We tried the shrimp, pork pastor, shredded chicken, and asada steak tacos. The shrimp was delicious and chopped up so it was easy to eat. The shredded chicken was moist, but the asada and pork tacos were a bit dry. We wanted to try the beef birra taco, but it was already sold out by 2pm. Get it early (or there is another location at the Eastern market). The staff was very friendly and helpful! Would definietly go back.

Yelp
Delicious! Not a large spot for dining in, but the food was fresh and authentic! My husband is from Texas and always in search of good Mexican food, Jose's Tacos delivered. I had the Chimichanga and my husband had three tacos. Don't leave without an agua fresca, the strawberry, was fresh and delicious. Only unexpected was the extra charge for using credit cards, but all in all a quality experience!

Yelp
Went in for an early lunch and was pleasantly surprised with people, portions and flavors! We were served quickly by the friendly staff. The quiet little hole in the wall got busy as we were leaving. Probably best we went in early. Definitely be back

Yelp
Love this place. It's a small hole in the wall joint located in two different places downtown Detroit. The first ( small hole in the wall) on Randolph with a line out the door during lunch and dinner time. The second at Eastern Market. The place is priced fair, fresh, and delicious. Perfect for a takeout or if there's room to sit indoors. The place on Randolph, seats about 6 and in the summer there is outdoor seating but only for four maybe. Parking at the downtown location is street or there is a lot to grab a parking place. Walking distance from tons of other places doesn't stay open every late. Highly recommend. Some of the best tacos in Detroit. Very worth the trip!!!

Yelp
This Mexican taqueria is a hidden gem in downtown Detroit. Don't judge the size of this place, because the food is excellent, affordable and folks that work there are awesome. A taco lover's hotspot! They also have great burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas. It's ideal for take-out, but they have small dine in area, too. I'm always greeted warmly and the staff there aim to please their customers. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Cool spot in Downtown Detroit. The inside is kinda small so most orders are to go. Overall the food & service were up to par!

Yelp
The food is pretty good! I ordered the chimichanga as pictured and it came with rice and beans. The food was fresh, well prepared and flavorful. They give you napkins, eating utensils and salsa for your take out. If you want sour cream you have to request it and I didn't know that at the time. My coworkers had began to frequent the restaurant and I would walk with them but this time I ordered. The cashiers are always courteous and Informative which goes a long way so I left a tip. Note: Be aware that to encourage cash utilization they charge a 3.99% charge for card usage. And they do have signage posted by the register reflecting this so they are transparent about it.

Yelp
Deep fried tacos are a must. The Pork is awesome. Salsa was very fresh and good. Service was great, definitely be back.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood taco spot. Food is better than 90% of the spots in Mexicantown. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love everything about Jose's Tacos! The service here is amazing-they've always gone above and beyond to make sure that the food and experience is top tier, and they definitely know what they're doing! The restaurant by the Opera House itself may be small, but it is always clean, warm, welcoming, and it's a friendly place that invites you to enjoy an excellent meal. The food? It doesn't really get better than here. I love their botana, tostada, and fajitas...the potato tacos are also fantastic, but I don't know if there's a bad choice on the menu. Definitely worth your money and time-I strongly recommend supporting them!

Yelp
My wife and I went to the Van Gough Experience at the Harmoie Club and after decided to grab lunch. We were suggested to check out Jose's just down the street. It is a small family business and run by very nice people. No alcohol but great food and process. The menu was pretty large and I ended up with a wet burrito and my wife a shrimp quesadilla. Both came with rice and beans with their homemade salsa. We both enjoyed the meals and getting sit outside on a beautiful day in Detroit. They recommended the donut shop next door and it was excellent too. We would for sure go back.

Yelp
Great taco selection; recommend the deep fried taco. And the sauces are a great combo.

Yelp
This local and small business was friendly and delicious! Everything we ordered was great and very fairly priced. The guac and salsas were the best!

Yelp
Little spot. It really is hard to find. It's next to the Detroit mini donut and across from a parking structure. I ordered a half order of the nachos with the shredded chicken and a shredded chicken enchilada with red sauce. The bottle green sauce is the medium spice and the more chunky and herby red is the mild salsa. The woman taking the orders asked if I wanted hot or mild salsa. I asked her for the hot and thus only received the hot bottle. They have a hot salsa is filled with the hot pepper seeds. They have bottled of sodas and drinks in the cooler. They have some strawberry drink available today. The red enchilada was good, packed full of shredded chicken. Sauce was slight but it's all better with their hot sauce. They make their nacho chips in house and they use real cheese for the nachos too. The nachos came out towering with stuff. It looked good. It wasn't bad but for the first time it might have been to heavy on the toppings for for me, as most if not all of the corn chips were soggy and too wilted to even pick up at all. I don't mind a few soggy chips but refuse to eat all soggy chips on my nachos. The enchilada was a solid 4 to me, the nachos were unfortunately about a 3. Left most of the chips behind as they were too soggy for me. They are very generous at least with the shredded chicken and toppings. May have been better on a platter and to spread out the toppings. It would still be good with the same amount of stuff spread out onto the nachos. The chips were overloaded and too weighted down with goodies that they collapsed and softened at the sheer weight of it all. It's still a nice mom and pop joint. The waitress was nice enough and checked up on me once. The enchiladas here are solid for sure. I would pass on the nachos the next time.

Yelp
Super cozy place. Walked in around 10:30 for breakfast and the 4-5 tables were full (always a good sign). I was about to leave but the nice young lady offered to set up a makeshift table for one. Ordered the Veggie omelet and was not disappointed. Rice could a bit more flavorful but the omelet was good. Should have ordered tortillas and not toast (was tasty but a bit soggy for being a toast). All in all a good experience and good bang for the buck. Don't blink too Sat as you may miss it :)

Yelp
Great food, very authentic tacos. I've been here a few times and I will say, they never disappoint. Great service. Would defitnely recommend. Check EddEats on all socials for a full review.

Yelp
food good, had a steak fajita, good atmosphere good price, would always recommend a glass coke to top it off.

Yelp
Food was fantastic and the service was great! The dynamite burrito will blow your mind! Its a small place but you should definitely check it out if you're ever in the area!

Chloe H.

Yelp
I loved everything expect for my fish taco which I felt could've used more seasoning and that they charge for bottled water. But the gauc, chicken tacos, and tamales were so good. First time I've had good Mexican food in Michigan since moving from SoCal! I would definitely recommend. My server was also very nice and explained the menu to me.

yvonne t.

Yelp
good food, good prices! i always get the steak burrito with rice and beans and it's delicious!

Yelp
I've worked in the city for the past decade and only recently found this place. It's amazing and always consistent with one of the best burritos I've ever had. Diana usually is the person at the front who offers great and super friendly customer service. Thanks for being awesome, Jose's!

Yelp
I happened across Jose's Tacos, this afternoon, after leaving the Disney Immersive experience with my daughter-in-law and grandchildren 1/2 block away. My daughter-in-law ordered tacos and said they were the best tacos she's ever had! My grandson and I shared an overly generous plate of nachos, which they kindly made 1/2 chicken and 1/2 beef. My granddaughter order tamales, which she liked, but she couldn't eat much because she drank TWO glasses of their homemade Strawberry Lemon water. Kat and Diana, working the front of the restaurant were SO focused on customer satisfaction. Jose's was very busy and these two ladies kept it together and moving...with smiles on their faces. Luis and Steff in the kitchen were responsible for the delicious food we ate, and NO restaurant can thrive without the back of the house staff keeping up with everything else. Thank you to Mari and Jesus! I didn't have the chance to meet everyone, but I did ask for names so they could be recognized. There is a sign on the wall suggesting a $1.00 contribution so a kitchen staff member can enjoy a fruit water. With the expected 95° or higher temperatures this afternoon, it was a pleasure to offer this gift for their quality food and service. I will look for Jose's Tacos on E. Grand River the next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
I read a lot of the reviews on Jose's tacos and looked at the photos so thought I would give it a try! The service was quality, they were very quick and efficient with my order. I thought the tacos were okay -- maybe I didn't order the best ones. I got corn tortillas, and all of them were falling apart when I was attempting to eat the taco. The rice and beans were good! I also got chips and salsa which were decent. Overall I chose 3/5 because the service was good, but the quality of the food was just so-so. It was also very pricey for what you got.

Yelp
Had the asada fries. Great mid afternoon snack. Came to town for a couple games, and did the customary try the local places. So tired of the same bland chain food. Went for a walk and found this place. Good Yelp reviews, very friendly girl working the counter. Would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I love this little gem near the YMCA. Found it while using a good app. I absolutely loved the crunchy flour tacos. It's like a fried flour tortilla. They have a variety of meat options plus a vegetarian option. The veggies were seasoned well. The fish taco was tasty with cilantro for added flavor. The ground beef taco was a winner for my family. It is a small space with some seating area. I look forward to trying them again. Less than $3 a taco and only 0.50 extra for sour cream.

Yelp
While walking around the eastern market we happened on Jose's Tacos and what a happy Surprise!!! Delicious will definitely eat there again

Yelp
This little hole in the wall serves some darned good food! Between us, our group of three got a burrito & enchiladas plate, tamales, and fish & shrimp tacos. Each entree came with rice and beans. All three of us enjoyed our entrees. I'm the one who had the tamales, and they were yummy. The tamales were moist, the pork well seasoned and tender. Jose's Tacos is a tiny place, so if you eat in, you might have to share a table with a stranger. We did, and it was fun talking to Jeff from the court as we ate. He even let me have his jalapeno. Prices are great. My meal was $7.99 and included two tamales, beans, rice, and a can of Arizona - any flavor offered. That's a heck of a deal for a downtown eatery. With such good food and prices, I know I'll be back. Hope to see you there!

Yelp
I'm of two minds about it after my initial visit: there are some really good things, and some things about which I'm not a fan at all. Start with the good: the tacos themselves, that I had, were very, very good, especially the proteins themselves. I had 4 "premium" tacos, which is to say: $3 each, plus tax. I had 3 Al Pastor, and 1 Steak, traditional style (grilled corn tortillas with cilantro and onions), and I must say: they tasted really, really good. The Al Pastor tacos could rival those at Taqueria Alameda in Westland, they were that good. They might not *topple* the king, but they'd be right in the thick of the fight. Too, the steak taco was impressive, especially due to the quality of the protein: this was a much-better-than-I'm-used-to steak quality in that taco, and the taste bore that out. The beef flavor and the spicing were really, really good. The grilled onions that came with the tacos went well with either kind of taco, but I paired most of it with the Al Pastors. Of the two, I think the Al Pastor edged the Steak, but that Steak taco was very good...better than I had anticipated. Service was pretty good and prompt, by nice women in a hot little kitchen. Bless them for working in a place that the A/C needs some work. So why not five stars? Well, price plays into it some (that's a pretty pricy lunch for four tacos at about $15 or so out the door), the lack of A/C plays into it some (as does the general rundown-ness of the facility itself) and the lack of facilities, but the really big knock on the place: Their pico de gallo is very expensive, and it is *LOUSY*. It's a darned shame, because it *looks* good in the tiny, not-filled-up 2 oz. container they issue to you for $.50 more, and even if it were good, it wouldn't really be enough except for one taco. But that's the biggest issue, though: the pico de gallo is pretty stinking *awful*, with way, way, *WAY* too much salt in the marinade, killing any and all other, lighter, more acidic tastes that the lime, tomato, onion, and cilantro are supposed to be providing. I am a Certified Pico Freak, and this pico de gallo pulls up the rear...it's lousy, and that's a major sin to me. Having said that: I'll be back for those tacos, I think. I really do want a better place to eat them in, a more comfortable place/facility, but the food itself, minus that ridiculously bad pico, is quite good. I didn't get beans and rice because, well...I just don't much care about those, but the Al Pastor and Steak both pass muster, for certain. I'd also like to try the (slightly cheaper) ground beef in the future. Know that it's a bit expensive for what you get, and that the place itself isn't anything great to eat in, and that you can just completely bypass getting pico de gallo, and you're probably in for some good stuff. It surprises me that they made such bad pico de gallo, but got the rest of the food so very good. That's...strange. Oh, well: I guess you can't have everything.

Yelp
Joses Tacos, color me impressed! I have no idea when you popped up in downtown D, but I'm sure glad you did. Two tacos were enough to fill me up, and the flavors were spot on! You can choose to customize or order directly off the menu. I mix and matched with my two-taco order, opting for one shrimp and steak (respectively), one corn and one flour tortilla, and both spice levels of salsa. Toppings were plentiful (mad respect re: the sauteed onions, yaaaas) and everything looked and tasted fresh. Just FYI - sour cream is an extra 50 cents. But the prices are very reasonable, so I wasn't too put off by the side charging. Now, if it were Honeybee's sour cream..... well, that'd be an extra-star-awarding game changer.

Yelp
In Detroit for the weekend and stumbled upon this hidden gem. Not much to look at but took one bite and was pleasantly surprised. Best damn Chorizo, Potato and Egg taco I've had in a while. Highly recommend this gem!

Lasecret J.

Yelp
Food was blend no season at all. I had the birras tacos, the dipping sauce taste like water. I asked can I have sour cream instead. The 21 year old at the cash register said yea for 59 more cent. I said ok I was just asking because this sauce don't have any flavor. She replies it's not supposed to taste like nothing I said ok I'm not about to go back in fourth with you. You are rude we're is the manager she says she not here. I just will never go there again and the owner will lose many customers because of her!

Yelp
What a great little spot to eat lunch OR dinner at! I stumbled into this place wanting to grab a quick bite before a Yelp event, and was pleasantly surprised at what I discovered. I love places like this, and really enjoyed the food I had here. Walking in, the place is rather small and non discript, but has a lot to offer in regards to good Mexican food. I scoured the menu and realized that they seem to have a lot going on. Great meal deals with rice and beans, along with ala cart items as well. Being that I wanted something to tide me over and not a huge meal, I went with the beef Tand a pop. I did consider their taco meal for $7.99 that came with beans and rice, but decided that I didn't need that much food at this time. The girl waiting on me at the register was so nice! Seemed young and I think she was related to the cook (possibly her dad?) standing at the grill. She told me I could have my tacos crispy or deep fried. WHAT?!?! BOTH! I went with crispy and they came out DELICIOUS! Place does have seating but is somewhat limited in size. No large groups here! Prices are fair and reasonable and the food is awesome! I would gladly stop in here again because it is totally the kind of food that I love. More on the authentic side with a family owned feel. Plenty of food to choose from, along with a sign that read "anything on our menu can be made vegetarian." I will be back here in the future for more deliciousness!!!

Yelp
Their kinda slow but the food is good. They could use a little more seasoning though. Definitely worth a try folks.
google avatar

Johnny P.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Mexican food in Detroit. Their Carne Asada fries are some of the best I've had, and I used to live in SoCal.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. It was takeout but they had some outdoor seating. The inside was small but a cozy hole in the wall. I got the build your own tacos and had 1 beef, 1 chicken, and 1 steak taco. They were delicious and came with rice and beans. The meat was cooked great. My husband got the supreme burrito (which was gigantic) and loved it. My friend got a quesadilla and enchilada and said it was good. The food was good and I'd say pretty standard for your average Mexican restaurant. There was nothing that stood out but it all tasted good. We also got chips and queso, which was pretty disappointing. We were expecting restaurant style queso, but it seemed comparable to microwaved tostitos queso. Other than that, the food was good. I wish they had margaritas as well but not sure if they usually do and just don't now because of covid.
google avatar

Jessie G.

Yelp
Good fast food. Not as authentic as most Mexican but it will do for a quick fix. My only hang-up about this place is small portions. Burritos are huge but the 1 scoop of rice and beans has got to do better. Not to mention hearing me say " no cheese" and still get it. Luckily my cousin eats cheese with his eggs and chorizo. I have no idea where to green bean came from which was a little disturbing cause I read the menu a few times and didn't see 1 dish that had green beans in it. I still support so please visit. Just stress the wants and don't wants to them.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Sooo yum! I tried the deep fried flour tacos, beef! There is nothing better than a crispy shelled taco. Full of flavor & worth the trip!

Adam P.

Yelp
I come here a couple times a week with my work buddies for lunch, every time we walk in to eat we are always greeted by waitresses, Diana and Kat. On valentine's day they even gave us little chocolates to celebrate the holiday! We have never had any issues here with service or the quality of food, and I will always recommend it to a friend!

Abigail P.

Yelp
Great food, the best!! Great service!! We really enjoyed the music and the hours are beneficial! Get some Margaritas and we may never leave! We really liked Sandy and Leira!

M E.

Yelp
Moved here from San Diego where we lived off of authentic Mexican, affordable, small mom & pop community taco shops. So I was happy to find this place which looked the part walking in. My first reality check was when they rang me up for the burrito on their special board - steak, rice, beans, salsa, sour cream, guac, and...french fries. The french fries are what make this a "California burrito". Unfortunately the price ($13) was more than double what you'd pay at a similar taco shop in San Diego. The next unfortunate reality check was when I got home to eat it and found it was missing the advertised ingredients that made it that familiar staple Cali burrito. No French fries, no guacamole, no sour cream. Screwed two ways. The search for a legit small mom & pop neighborhood taco shop unfulfilled. That being said, their food is good, certainly not every day pricing and more of a luxury, assuming you actually get what you ordered and paid for.

Yelp
I can understand waiting in line for a while to order. That alone took 30 minutes. Ok it is what it is. But to then wait an hour for my order??!! Its tacos! Not cool. Figure about a better system. Its just not excusable. My group finished their shopping for the day and sat in the car waiting for me. Ruined everyone's day for mediocre tacos.

Jay K.

Yelp
First, the food is average at best. I've never found the food to be fresh and looks very dull and old. Nothing stands out and often is below par. I live literally 100 steps from this place. Based on the close proximity alone, I've tried so many times to like this place. I've have this place more opportunity given their food and service than any other I can recall. Southwest Detroit has numerous better options, as does most other Mexican food based restaurants. Definitely, go elsewhere. The staff is good but occasionally I experience bad service. They are terrible with COVID protocol (which has no basis for the 1 star, just info. for those who want it). They have a sign on their own door limiting people that they do NOT follow at all. They also don't enforce masks or have any real 'rules' or enforcement of the line. It's often chaotic, way over crowded in the tiny space, and they do a very bad job checking people out. If it's all you have for an option, then maybe and good luck.

E Lynise B.

Yelp
I don't know if the food is good because the customer service was SO HORRIBLE, that I canceled my order. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service!!!!!

Michael D.

Yelp
I've worked downtown for eight years and been to every single taco spot in town. Jose's by far is the best. It's a total hole in the wall but great customer service and amazing food. My go to is the crunchy flower steak tacos with everything. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone looking for authentic Mexican.

Kierra H.

Yelp
I love their fried corn tacos. The flour tacos are good as well but corn is better, in my opinion. Service is always quick and friendly. This place is out of my way but I like to treat myself every now and then.

Yelp
Ok- first of I want to say I took everyone's reviews to heart. So I went yesterday afternoon. It wasn't busy which was fine. Sitting is very small so you do need to take it to go. The good- The food was fast, the people were friendly. The enchiladas were very good actually. The Tacos were pretty good was well. I had the Taco Al Carbon, and the fried taco. The bad- At the last minute I wanted some chips and queso. It took about 10 minutes for them to make. The nice thing was she brought it out to my car. When I opened it. The chips were over cooked. ( No seasoning) and the cheese was like it came from a can. Like the Mexican cheese sauce cans you see at the store. Other then that the food was good. Extra. sour cream .50 Guacamole .75

Yelp
I spontaneously stopped in here last week during lunch time and decided to get a carry out. I ordered one of their lunch specials: 2 enchiladas with beans and rice. The enchiladas are corn based with a red sauce. They come with a small portion of lettuce and tomatoes. The rice is a mexican rice and I didn't try the beans - just not in the mood. I got the cheese option with a side of sour cream and a side of guacamole. I added an order of chips and salsa as well. With a $2 tip its was about $15.50. The order was ready within 10 minutes of me placing it, probably even faster than that. It was a great portion of food and I really enjoyed it! It's a tiny place, so I'd recommend getting it for carry out or a small group, but they do have tables to sit at. There are also a couple of tables outside. Check it out and try the enchiladas :) And don't worry, they aren't spicy!

Yelp
I LOVE this place!!! The food tastes so authentic to Mexico! There's not many places I've been to in the greater Detroit area that has an authentic flavor and I've been to a lot of them, so this is a gem. I'll keep coming to Jose in the future!

Yelp
Waited over 30 minutes for soggy tacos. Would suggest organizing orders better. Will not be returning.
