This place is spacious inside. If you come during peak time, there's usually a line. Their food comes quickly, so the wait usually isn't too bad. The XLB is juicy inside and the dumpling size is bigger than Ding Tai Fung's. I'd say the skin is as thin and comparable to Ding Tai Fung's too. We tried all three kinds: the regular pork ones, pork with crab meat, and the shrimp with loofah squash. They're all good. The flavor of the three-cup chicken is good, however, too many bones. They chopped the chicken with bones and there were fragmented bone pieces. You'll need to be careful when eating this dish. Their steamed beef dumplings are good, but a bit on the salty side. The sliced beef and cucumber roll with green onion pancake is so-so. Only has one thin slice of beef and there's not enough meat inside, compared to other restaurants I tried. Their fried rice are tasty. We tried a few before and they're all decent. The picture below is the Sakura Shrimp fried rice and it's very flavorful without being too salty. The steamed sole fish (filet) is surprisingly good. Worth a try if you haven't ordered this before, and no fish bones! Their scrambled eggs with prawns is good. A lot of prawns and tasty eggs. A good protein dish. Their sauteed veggies are pretty good too. We tried the sauteed A-choy and bitter melon with garlic. Both dishes are decent. The boiled tofu with house special sauce is excellent. If you don't want to wait for long line at Ding Tai Fung, this is the place to come. Of course if you want way better (Americanized) service, go to Ding Tai Fung. This service at this place is like typical authentic Chinese restaurants, don't expect too much.

This is probably the best xiao long bao besides din tai fung. I love the Loofah shrimp dumplings, so testy ! The price is reasonable, but the service is a bit bad, the tables and chairs are not clean, the server rushes the order and leaves the food on the table when it is served and left . If you don't mind the service, the food is good

Some of the best soup dumplings I've had in the area. Their other dishes are also pretty good, especially their beef noodle soup. Their Stir-fried vegetable dishes were tender, especially the pea shoots. Service was friendly, and food came out fast. Prices were reasonable. I'd definitely come back.

We have visited this place a few times in the past. My husband loves their dumplings and thinks it’s the best in the area. I go for their fried bitter melon w/garlic and the thick green onion pancake (Yi-lan style). This is the only place I would eat the bitter melon. It has the right balance of crispness, garlic flavor, and a hint of bitterness. Green onion oil chicken is delicious and fresh.

Was craving soup dumplings so we came to this spot. Got A2, Juicy pork dumplings w/ crab meat. E6, Mongolian cumin beef and K8 seafood and pork chow mein. All were great but for sure the favorite was the soup dumplings. Easily could have ordered extra and only this dish if we didn’t want variety.

It seemed nearby tables were over-ordering the popular items, leaving nothing for later guests. The restaurant's ambiance was classic Taiwanese-Chinese, though parking was a bit tight. Despite driving 25 minutes for what seemed like a promising lunch, we were let down by sold-out menu options. Come early, especially on the weekends if you don't want to risk what happened to us. However, the pork and crab dumplings we did try were tasty, but the recommended fish dumplings had thick skin, and the egg yolk tofu didn't live up to the hype. The pea sprouts were good. Overall, it wasn't the memorable birthday lunch we hoped for, and with other dining options nearby, we may not return anytime soon.

My wife said this is the best Xiao Long Bao in Bay Area. Tastes close to the on in Taiwan. I ordered the Redbeans pancake every time when I visited Joy dumpling. Vegetarian menu available.

This specific restaurant location has always had good XLB (soup dumplings). Many years ago it was called Shanghai dumpling. Then it became something my else and now it’s called joy dumpling. Here’s what we enjoyed this visit: Mushu chow mein, which has medium to fat noodles in a Mushu pork style sauce. Green onion, pancake, which was fried to perfection. Fried rice. Beef noodle soup, which had an excellent broth and of course, three orders of XLB. Looking forward to visiting again.

I'm obsessed with the salted egg tofu. I had it in the summer. Then suddenly remembered it when I was in the South Bay over the holidays. OBSESSED!!! Like I would consider hiring that person as my personal chef so I can selfishly be the only one to enjoy it daily. I kid (or not?). There has not been a dish in recent years that I dream about more than the salted egg tofu. As I close my eyes, I imagine the soft pleasing pillows of tofu goodness. This is a small and mighty dish. The flavor of the subtle salted egg with the texture of the tiny tofu pillows paired with diced veggies... The other dishes are delicious too. People come here for XLB, dumplings, noodles, rice dishes. I'm not into beef rolls but theirs fit my taste... size, flavor, ratio of beef to pancake. I don't like my beef rolls to be huge. When I bite into it, it should be easy...and not have the struggle of meat falling out which messes with the beef to pancake ratio of the rest of the piece. For dessert, the red bean sesame pancake is the ultimate item to order. Have one piece to not overwhelm yourself. Take the rest to enjoy at home later if there are any pieces left. Notes: There is a waitlist you sign when you walk in to write your name and number in your party.

FLAVOR (3.5/5): Pretty average tasting! The soup dumplings skin wasn't the thinnest and the meat wasn't the most flavorful but it was sure juicy! The string beans were a bit tough, the seams of the beans were still on a few of them. The pan fried soup dumpling was different compared to other restaurants, a lot bigger, less crispy and the meat was more grounded. The beef shank went well with the cucumbers but on its own can be a bit salty. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (2/5): Nothing really stood out about this restaurant, fairly standard for your asian local spot. Lots of tables but the furniture was worn, the bench seats were all cracked and leather was peeling. The teacups 2/3 of them had stains on them. SERVICE (3/5): Slow service on a Saturday lunch, had to practically beg someone to get us the bill and to pick up the card! There will be a wait so just be prepared for it. TAKEAWAYS: Didn't blow my mind! If you're in the area and need a quick fix, but I think there are better options out there.

Clean looking place. Located in a plaza with bunch of other stores so alot of parking. Food: Vegetarian noodle - was alright, I just had a bite. Green onion pancake - tasted like it was out and then refried. Shrimp xlb - was ok Pork xlb - was alright Loofa shrimp - wasn't for me I didn't like the veggies in it was bitter Fish dumpling - was eh Shumai - was eh Service: was great really attentive. Overall: not for me.

The food was sooooo good. The prices were pretty typical but I think the quay and yumminess of the food gives this place five stars. The interior is really spacious so they can accommodate large parties. We got the shrimp dumplings, stewed pork with baos, basil eggplant, and the sour cabbage meatball soup. Everything was so delicious. The food is super authentic and comforting. YUM

No wait on a Sunday evening around 7pm for my party of 6. Food came out pretty quickly. Juicy pork dumplings and shrimp and loofah dumplings were both pretty good! Bigger in size compared to Din Tai Fung's. I'm usually not the biggest bitter melon fan, but I liked the bitter melon with salted egg. My favorite dish was the matsuzaka meat with garlic sauce. It was tender, fatty, and the sauce was so flavorful. I was ok about the house special taro squid rice noodles pot, but this was just a personal preference since I'm generally not a fan of most of the ingredients inside. The deep fried sweet Chinese buns with condensed milk were delicious!

The food was pretty average and the service didn't really exist. Surprisingly other tables around did not come here for the dumplings. I saw a lot of tables order the red bean pancake, braised pork belly rice and other stir fry items. All the dumplings didn't have much juice in them which was very disappointing. They were cooked well and do fill you up. Maybe try the stir fry and not do dumplings here....

Stopped by on a Sunday for brunch with my boyfriend and we had a pretty decent experience here. Service is quick and there's plenty of seatings. Menu is also extensively with a good section for vegetarian eaters. We decided to come to Joy Dumpling bc we're always on the hunt for some good xlb. We decided to order juicy dumplings (xiao long bao), shrimp shu mai, sliced beef shank, braised beef noodle soup, and garlic string beans. Everything came out quick and delicious. The star of the show is really the beef noodle soup. I would definitely return just for this item.

Taiwanese food at its roots! We ordered the - soup dumplings - beef noodle soup - clam soup (my fave comfort soup) - shrimp fried rice. I would still argue DTF is better for soup dumplings but otherwise it was good and simple. The service was super fast; they do have a waiting list that is on a clipboard up front when you arrive. The restaurant was pretty full when we arrived, usually a good sign too :)

Quite a huge seating area, and this place is hard to miss as it occupies the big corner of the plaza. They serve Taiwanese food with steamed dumplings and XLB. We used to do take out, and this is the first time we had a sit-down meal, and I have to say the service is quite interesting. They are busy and try to optimize the flow, but it's awkward as they try to do so many things together. We sat down and were immediately given the vinegar and ginger dip for XLB, although none of us in the family likes that smell or actually use them. As we waived them to take orders, one told the other to do so, and we had to waive them twice. As we finished ordering, the waitress told us this was the last order as the kitchen would close at 2 pm. As we were contemplating that information, the waitress just walked away. Turns out she was getting us the ice water, but we felt deserted for a minute, and she did not ask again if we had decided to add more orders. Then, when the waiter tried to put down a steam basket of XLB, he accidentally knocked down my chopsticks. Shocked momentarily, he just disappeared with an embarrassed look, no sorry, no apologies. In terms of the food. The beef roll is pretty good. I always come for the Juicy Dumplings with Loofah and Shrimp. Can't go wrong with these 2. Mushu noodles are okay; they are a bit small in portion but taste okay. The most disappointing item for me is the Steamed Fish and Shrimp Dumplings. It has no taste of shrimp, and the worst part is that they used Chinese celery, which has that distinct aroma and taste that you either love or hate and for me, it's a big no-no. So my conclusion is order take out next time.

One of the best Taiwanese restaurants in the South Bay. If you are here with 5-6 people, definitely recommend the taro squid vermicelli soup! It's definitely worth it! It's huge in portion and full of good toppings, including squid, taro, imitation crab, pork, mushroom, and fish ball! Each person could easily have 3-4 bowls of the vermicelli soup! If you dine in, the restaurant will also refill the soup for you complimentarily! Golden tofu was very well executed, with right amount of flavor, not too salty and still very fragrant. The soup dumpling was decent, though the skill is still a bit too thick for me. Pan fried potstickers are mediocre, since it's not that crispy. Red bean pancake dessert is quite good and decent way to finish the meal. Service was very nice within the restaurant and with copious and clean space. Staffs are very nice and friendly. Parking could be challenging since it's shared with many other restaurants in the plaza. Would go back.

Pretty solid Chinese/Taiwanese spot in the same plaza as QQ Noodle and TP Tea. We liked the braised pork rice (big portions), stir fried loofa/luffa (most restaurants don't have this!), and thick Taiwanese-style scallion pancake. The soup dumplings were not bad, skin was thin but the texture was a little over-steamed. The pan fried buns were different from normal sheng jian bao but they had lots of meat and good flavor. Wouldn't recommend the spicy oil beef because it was too watery and didn't have enough veggies.

My go-to Chinese food spot if I wanted to eat out. Came by for my mom's birthday. The four of us ordered: -fried pork intestine string beans $13.95 -juicy pork dumpling $7.95 -lamb green onion $14.95 -beef roll green onion $8.95 -plain fried chinese loofah $13.95 -salted egg yolk tofu $12.95 -moo shu chow mein $12.95 -red bean pancake sesame $7.95 All the dishes were quite good! Service is pretty good. Usually pretty busy which is a good sign. Parking in the plaza.

This time, a Sunday dinner here. Of course we ordered two kinds of XLB -- normal pork and Loofah/Shrimp kind. Both were quite good. That's as expected. On dishes, we tried the green-onion chicken. This is a variation of HaiNan chicken with doles of chopped and drenched green onion on top. I liked it for the fresh green onion aroma. Than the salted-egg crusted shrimps. Very tasty. The play between salted egg-york and shrimps was quite nice. Lastly the clay-potted soup. It was a very large serving and they offer free broth refill. It's probably good for 6 people and filled with delicious ingredients. It was the star of the night. For dessert, we order red-bean paste pancake (豆沙鍋餅). It was the best I had for a long while. Excellent experience.

The service was nice and fast, the portion was big, the food was tasty, and the price was quite reasonable in the area. My favorite dish was the pork belly. It was well-cooked and literally melted in my mouth. It had a balanced sweet & savory flavor. The buns were soft and paired with pork belly very well~ Beef roll had decent amount of meat inside. The green onion pancake was crispy and the sauce was very flavorful~ The salty egg yolk tofu and lamb dish were a little plain to me. I didn't get their signature juicy pork dumplings this round, but I know what to order next time.

This Taiwanese restaurant was busy at about 6:30 with a short line of folks waiting. Service was relatively fast even with a packed restaurant and 3-4 servers. Food was ok. The Beef Noodles were not so good. Noodles not Q. Soup didn't have much beef flavor. Beef cubes were the best part. XLB were very flavorful, hot with good filling but the skin fell apart today easily. Needs some work. Sheng Jian Bao was very good. Mapo Tofu was interesting as they fried the tofu a bit. Ambiance was ok. Nothing special. Your regular Chinese restaurant. I would warn of dirty bathroom though.

This is my favorite xiaolongbao in the Bay Area. Their pork filling is super soft and juicy. Flavor is light and refreshing. Each bao is relatively big so I can only finish 5-6 max in one sitting. Their dishes are a little heavier on ginger (which I love). The servers are really attentive even though they're busy. They're blunt but not rude. It can get a little noisy since it's just one big room. Bathrooms are pretty clean, and there's a separate one for only women.

Finally took the time to try this place that used to house my favorite pan fried soup dumpling place. Came in for lunch with the parents. Was sat down immediately. We ordered: - pork soup dumplings ($7.95): These were decent enough but not super flavorful. There were adequate numbers of wrinkles, but the dumplings were on the bland side for me. Even the vinegar seemed watered down a bit. - shrimp soup dumplings ($9.95): These were quite tasty! Had some soup but was a nice texture with the scallions and shrimp. I enjoyed these much more than the pork ones. - 3 flavor noodle soup ($12.95): The soup was pretty tasty here. The noodles weren't anything to write home about. Good variety of toppings though with a good amount of seafood. - scallion pancake with egg and cheese ($7.45): These were good, but also can't go too wrong with egg and cheese in scallion pancake. I thought it would be a bigger dish too. - king oyster mushroom clay pot ($13.95): This was also quite tasty but could use some bamboo shoots or garlic. I enjoyed this dish decently. Overall, I was disappointed with my meal. I left the restaurant with that feeling of an unsatisfied but full stomach. Plenty of parking, but will probably not come again. They need more flavoring and better portion sizes for what they charge for some dishes.

I'm torn between a 3 and a 4 here because the good stuff was good but the underwhelming stuff was underwhelming. The good stuff: green onion pancake with beef and cucumber. YUM. Braised pork rice -- YUM. Green beans with salted egg -- I liked it, but my honey didn't. We also got pork XLBs and beef dumplings and for a place that's ostensibly a dumpling place, these were disappointing. To be fair, we did order for pickup so they had to sit around longer than if we'd eaten in the restaurant.

Nice spot for a quick meal! We came around on a Friday night for dinner and although there was a bit of a wait for 2, the service is super quick and efficient. We had heard good things about the soup dumplings here so we got an order of pork soup dumpings and the beef and scallion pancake roll to start and then a crab and tofu clay pot and braised beef noodle soup. The pork soup dumplings were really the highlight. The skin is super thing and the liquid inside is really flavorful. I would say for me it's better than the soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung as those are a bit bland for me. I would definitely come back and order 2 sets of these. The crab and tofu clay pot was good but interesting it had more of a seafood mix than crab and it seems like the seafood clay pots would all be pretty similar. The beef noodle soup is great with tender beef, a lot of noodles and a really nice, deep broth. The only dish we didn't like was the beef and scallion pancake roll which was dry and bland. I wished there was a sauce to go along with it and as a lot of restaurants have this starter, we've definitely had better elsewhere.

We came here another time last week... Still the Taiwanese/Chinese food is one of the best in the South Bay.

Finally tried this place last week. The green onion pancake with beef and cucumber was really good!! I would def coming back for just this in the near future. Didn't really care for the XLB, a little surprised since dumpling is in this restaurant's name. Green beans were ok, not bad. Restaurant itself is clean and spacious. Would like to try more things on the menu next time!

I was in the mood for xlb so I decided to check this place out. The prices are affordable, and the xlb is decent sized. Both the crab and pork xlb was good, there was plenty of soup inside of them. My only complaint is that they were overcooked so the texture of the skin was a bit mushy and fell apart. We also ordered garlic green beans which were tasty but I wish the portion was bigger. I would still come back again if I'm in the area, especially since it's in the same plaza as tp tea!

I had high hopes for Joy Dumpling, but unfortunately it didn't bring as much joy as I had expected. I always drive by this plaza, so hubs and I decided to give it a try on a weekday evening for dinner. We got there a little before 6pm and it was a little quiet, then others started trickling in. The restaurant is large and feels very open, with tables spaced apart, large windows, and good lighting. It's clean, well kept, and has mostly traditional decor. There's a piece of artwork spanning the wall, depicting villagers making dumplings in an cute and artsy traditional Chinese painting style. The menu is huge! It includes lots of dumplings, noodles, entrees, even a small selection of dim sum. Service was prompt and friendly. We got the beef pancake roll, XLB, and the lamb with green beans. Everything was just alright, not bad but not particularly impressive. The portion sizes were a bit small; the plating that they use for entrees looks like a big plate, but the food is actually only in a small bowl at the center. The cooking style is simple and I like how the food tasted homemade, but the corollary is that it wasn't all too favorable or memorable. Total damage was ~$45 for two, sans leftovers. I know the Bay Area is getting expensive and there's inflation, but I would have expected more joy and more dumplings. (We were actually still hungry after, so we ordered TP Tea while waiting for the check)

Your average Taiwanese eats. Lots of tables and fairly responsive staff. Pros: Best item we ordered was by far the loofah with salted egg. Cons: Soup dumplings didn't have enough soup and it was lukewarm at best. The braised beef was ok, although there was nothing special about the dish considering they don't make their own noodles here. The worst dish we ordered was the beef roll; it had a salty bitter sauce in it that wasn't pleasant and the cucumbers in it were old (the skin was really tough). Should have used baby cucumbers or peeled the skin.

Ah... so good. Really hit the spot for soup dumplings. Nice thin delicate skin. Their pancakes were also made with a delicate hand- egg pancake and red bean pancake were perfect harmony of dough and non-dough ingredients. Their sand pot soups is humongous and loaded; it is absolutely perfect for a chilly day. Lot of dishes on the menu I would go back to try, but everything we ordered was delicious. Service was a little laggy- it was busy and we had to get up and chase down staff to get help with taking order, more tea, another tea cup, serving ware etc etc. One waiter would catch our eyes and then promptly ignore us! Not sure if it was bc taking orders and fetching stuff was out of his job purview or what. Make sure you wipe down your tea cups before using... yeah. :-/

First time coming here and i really enjoyed it. The servers were nice and allowed our group to talk and enjoy our time without rushing us. The restaurant was super authentic - i went with a friend that could speak the language and also got to try these foods. Price was pretty good where 8 of us ate till we were full and it came out to around $28/person. The xiao long bao was really good and definitely better than din tai fung. The restaurant was spacious and accompanied our big group well. The food also came out quite quickly as well. Definitely a would recommend

Authentic Taiwanese comfort food. Especially the stir fry cabbage. Relatively reasonable price.

I'm officially obsessed with this place and it's my new go to and favorite spot for dumplings! Only issue is portion sizes are quite small, and they run out of items. Got all the XLB and this is the closest to din Tai Fung I've seen in terms of soup and skin thinness. The meat doesn't taste exactly the same in texture but tastes good enough to avoid the line. There's a bit of a wait but not much. I also tried the crab XLB and usually I'm underwhelmed at other places because it's more expensive without much difference. But I liked theirs!! I got the shrimp loofah and that one is not for me. No soup, and a bunch of chunks of veggies.... Maybe if you like veggies, but that was so weird. I rather just eat the filling with rice. We got the crabseafood clay pot with tofu, and it's actually egg tofu instead of tofu so just a warning. But SOOOOOO good. I'm so obsessed now. Very tiny pot though. We got the beef chow mein which I think was in sa Cha sauce. Pretty good but again, small portion. Also got the salted egg green beans and I'm not a veggie person but I really liked it! They are just slow and small portions, but I want to come back to try more items

My brother and I were actually lined up to go to a nearby spot, but got caught off guard with a cash only policy. This place seemed generally quite popular so can't be too bad right? While Joy Dumpling definitely gives a good meal on the slightly cheaper end of things (great value), the dishes we got had a lot of hit or miss aspects to them so it's hard for me to find a good reason to come back when competition runs hot in the dumpling space. Service was generally good in that classic efficient chinese manner, though most things were done offline (in terms of menus, ordering, waitlists, etc.) so it seems a bit more old-school in that sense. There's probably going to be a wait, but throughput seemed reasonably high even for a Saturday night so we didn't wait too long for party of two. Since it was a new shop for me I did want to try a bit of dimsum and noodle variety, since they seemed to be their forte. Then we plopped a veggie dish on top to help round out all the carbs we were inevitably getting. The variety of dishes was pretty large and I couldn't quite figure out what region this most represented (just seemed to be quite a jumble). ==Xiaolongbao [2/5]== The XLB had very gritty texture to their meatballs, which was very unpleasant to eat. My brother didn't even finish his allocation of XLB (which is unheard of honestly, first time I can recall he's done that). XLB skins were really thin, but also tore extremely easily. Broth in the XLB was okay at best and wasn't very flavorful. Bit ginger heavy on the meatball flavor. ==ShenJianBao [3.5/5]== SJB were unusual (to me anyway) in that the bao part was extremely dense and chewy rather than being more bready, though I believe this is a regional variation (it's a nice kind of chewy though so this wasn't negative in any way). Flavor was decently strongly gingery and porky, and the bottoms had a crisp sear to them, but meatball's gritty texture was rather offputting and unfortunately ruins it for me. Same issues with the XLB, but helped by the other positive parts of the baozi. ==Sichuan Eggplant [3.5/5]== The eggplant had a good amount of heat and reasonably tender eggplant chunks, but the seasoning was rather inconsistent. Some parts were much saltier than others, so it made for rather big jumps from "not enough flavor" to "too much, need water". The eggplant was cooked quite nicely tender though, so when the bites were good they were solid, but sadly the inconsistency kind of makes it hard to recommend. ==Beef noodle soup [3.5/5]== Though visually a heartwarming sight and loaded with lots of noodles, this dish was just alright. Though packed, the noodles were extremely gummy with a pastiness to them that were honestly a struggle to finish. At least the broth was good and the beef chunks were tender and flavorful bites, but that unfortunately doesn't overcome the major weak link. Might be a style thing, but it's definitely not mine.

Well, I can't say anything for the one thing I really want. Apparently SJB only happens on weekends. But Friday night there is nothing, sold out.... Really? This must be some damned good SJB if it sold out this early, next time I am coming on the weekend, just to get to SJB. Then we will judge for sure. Otherwise, your food was pretty good.

There have been a number of restaurants in this spot that have come and gone. Hopefully this one will stay. They do dumplings very well and I love how they automatically give out the vinegar ginger soy sauce dipping sauce. My favorite dumpling is the shrimp loofah soup dumpling, which is unique and not as heavy as the pork dumplings. Another favorite is the egg yolk tofu - the texture of the pillowy tofu is wonderful! If you're in a large group, another specialty item is the squid taro hot pot. The portion size for the hot pot is humongous and the leftovers make another meal.

Came by for takeout the other day and it was a tasty experience! Joy Dumpling is now open after the remodel. The open bar was removed and new flooring was put in. There is now plenty of room to dance? or just hang out in the "lobby." Called ahead for takeout and my order was ready 15 minutes after the scheduled time. The pan fried bun had a nice crispy bottom, thick skin, and juicy meat on the inside. These are only available during the weekend! The pot stickers also had a slight crisp on the bottom along with juicy meat and thinner skin. These are usually available on the weekend. The xlb were tasty with super thin skin although the meat was on the saltier side. The soup was plentiful. The beef with onion came out with a generous portion of beef. Flavors were on the bolder side. Staff wore masks and some even wore a vinyl glove on one hand. ~$20/head for lunch takeout. Pay cash! ;)

Food was good - especially the red bean pancake, salted egg string bean, soup dumpling. But they rush the service so much that it's hard to want to stay here or come back. Our sui Mai came out uncooked and had to be redone They rush to take your order and tell you that if you don't order now, everything will be delayed. When we got there and placed our order, they asked if I wanted the red bean pancake right away or later. I said later. Then when I asked for it, we waited 20 mins... then I followed up and then the waiter scolded us that it's cause we asked for it later. I told her to then cancel it and then another waiter came back out with the dish in less than a minute. Totally unnecessary to fight with your customers. Should have just taken that time to check on our order with was obviously on the way.

My boyfriend and I were craving Din Tai Fung, but did not want to put up with their crowds and their lines, so we decided to try Joy Dumplings. All I can say is, wow. Every item we tried was outstanding, and I'm already looking forward to going back. We got the Juicy Pork Dumplings (XLB), Shrimp and Pork Shao-Mai, Pot Stickers with Pork and Chive, the Beef Roll, and the Beef Noodle Soup. I do think the XLB at Din Tai Fung is a tad better, as the skin there is thinner. However, Joy's Dumplings was still outstanding. My favorite item was probably the Pot Stickers. The skin wasn't too thick and it was fried to perfection. The Beef Noodle Soup was also one of the best I've had. The soup was hearty and umami, though I don't think they make their own noodles. The service is here super efficient. We were in and out in like 30 minutes because I had told the server that I had somewhere to be after. They have a lean machine going, and I can definitely appreciate that!

Everything here hit the spot for me! Get the XLB's, green onion pancake, beef noodle soup, shen jian bao- I don't think you can go wrong here. Every time we're in the area we try to stop by- the last few times they were under remodeling or we came outside business hours, or they were closed due to holiday hours We're looking forward to coming back!

Fresh and delicious shanghai style food--the stand out dishes were an egg yolk tofu (like a bursting pocket of piping hot savory deliciousness) and the loofah with clam (if you are ok with a slippery texture this was amazing). The crab xlbs were good, but nothing outstanding, and the meatball and cabbage soup and sacha beef fried rice were also skippable. Overall though, what was good was so good that I'd come back again to try them and others! It seems their loofah dishes are somewhat of a specialty.

All the food is pretty good and tasty. Service was so-so (they were fairly attentive but not very friendly). I still have yet to find xlb that has skin as thin as Din Tai Fung's. Joy Dumpling's xlb were pretty juicy, but the wrappers were too thick and chewy. The potstickers and the beef roll were a little greasy. Bonus - TP Tea is in the same plaza if you're hankering for some milk tea as dessert (or maybe even an appetizer? ).

This was a surprising find over the weekend! The Taiwanese beef noodle soup here is amazingly good. Rich flavor with tender chunks of beef. I found myself making comparisons to the many beef noodle soup places I visited during my last trip to Taipei. The soup dumplings are really good as well. Size, flavor, amount of soup put them up there for me. I prefer soup dumplings with thin skin, so this place was just off the mark on this. Green onion pancakes (Cong you bing) and hot and sour soup were just so so, and I wouldn't recommend them. Beef noodle soup is 5 stars, the place gets 4 stars overall.

First of all, their XLB looks subpar and the food tastes so-so. However, the problem I had with them is the services The waiter scolded me and my GF when we tried to split the bills, goes " aren't here too many cards?" I am quite shocked by his rudeness and the fact he would not handle two credit cards. If you wanna be a smart ass to get away with the card surcharge, you would put it on your menu up front. Or, next time, you could ask nicely by, " sorry, one card, plz" No returns.

Soup dumplings here are to die for! A cheaper and authentic alternative to din tai fung, their dumplings are filled with soup and just the right size. 生煎包 is also good, plus the other varieties of dumplings. So many other items i want to try from the menu and I'll be back for sure. If you're not in the mood for dumplings, they have plenty of stir fry/hot dishes to choose from. Everything was priced reasonably especially considering inflation.

It's just ok. The best part frankly is the ginger in the tangy sauce, small cup and thr fried garlic on thr vegetables! I posted photos! The crab dumplings are not very tasty The orange sauce drowned out the flavor of the crab! The shrimp sui mai was delicious! $10. They should do the cart pushing around with more smaller portioned options! Just my take. ‍

The food is delicious and the owner is great! Always a great dining experience! The steamed fish and shrimp dumplings are delicious!

Beef Noodle Soup - good flavorful broth without being salty, good thick noodles Green Onion Pancake Beef Roll - a little salty but still good XLB - lots of broth, standard 3 Cup Chicken - really good, has garlic confit

4 stars is about right. The variety of of XLBs and the freshness is their seafood is what makes this place shine with 4 stars. The beef wrap was good and the fried rice was good also. That's the most descriptive I can get--it was just good. To make it to great I think is when the flavor combinations excel and the crab in the XLB is center and not a side topping.

Disclaimer, we were not able to try the food. It's Wednesday at 3:30 pm. I'm here, they're not. Hours posted on their window different from the hours listed on Yelp. And they taped off closing time so who knows when they close! We left an area with other options because I'd wanted to try this place. Super inconvenient and a royal waste of time. I guess business owners don't care about keeping up with business info online. Boo!

The debate concerning this restaurant in Chinese community circles is whether Joy Dumpling can replace Din Tai Fung in terms of Xiaolong bao quality. I am here to say "YES," but with a one caveat: the dough. Expect the inside to be full of soup and delicious meat. But you will not find the fixed number of dumpling folds, or the super smooth quality of the dumpling dough here. This is not to say the Xiaolong bao here are bad. In fact, they are beyond satisfactory! Now on to a review of some of the items I recently tried: Cucumber and shrimp dumplings. A great complement to the pork dumplings. Very generous portion of shrimp with some finely chopped cucumber. Goes well with the regular soy sauce / vinegar / sliced ginger fixings. Beef Noodle Soup. Excellent portion, very savory, and a nice dish to share with the family. This can replace your carbs if you are not eating rice for the meal. Salt Egg fried shrimp. The "fried" part is much like my cantonese favorite "salt and pepper squid," but with added vegetables and salty egg for more savory flavor and texture. Fried Tofu. Not much to say about this one, except get it. The scallions and cilantro with the sweet, braised sauce are a killer combo. Five dishes ran us about $60, which is pretty good for this area in terms of dining, price, quantity and quality. Give it a try!

Hey, har gow's it? The dumplings really are a joy and juicy as can be. Joy Dumpling is to the left of QQ Noodle (one of my husband's favorite restaurants). We ordered: 1. Juicy pork dumplings- these were fantastic! My mom liked these dumplings even more than the more expansive dumplings with shrimp. 2. Juicy dumplings with shrimp ($2 more than the regular pork dumplings)- I liked these as I'm a fan of the veggies and shrimp that they added. 3. Beef roll with green onion - this roll was packed with flavor and was quite filling. Overall great and kind service and delicious food. We were seated quickly and came on a day where it wasn't too crowded. If you're looking for somewhere quiet to go, this may not be the place for you as it can get loud because of the acoustics of the room. Otherwise, if you don't mind the noise, this is a great spot for dumplings!
