Joy Yee Plus

This restaurant definitely seemed like it was more popular for the amount of milk tea options than for the food. We were very pleased with how quickly we got our food and some things tasted really good, however, my meal made me physically sick a few hours after we left, one other dish was pretty dry, and none of us finished the milk tea because it tasted a little off. We will eat at a different place next time we are in Chinatown.

My friend wanted us to dry durian flavored ice cream…. Stinky, yet delicious! The kids really enjoyed trying a few different things from the menu. On a hot day at his spot is a perfect stop. Will be revisiting next time we are in China town. Bussin!

We went there for dessert and they had lovely ice cream called bubble waffle ice cream. It was amazing. We took strawberry one and that wasn’t too sweet and filled with strawberries kiwi and many more. Loved it. And also fruit tea was lovely too. Staff was good. Only problem is place is little bit small so you don’t have enough space to wait and select what you want to order. They have a long menu so you need some time to think. Overall loved it. We gonna go again for dinner also.

Sour but sweet excellent froyo. Weird you can't specify toppings at order kiosks but can if you order at counter. Over-the-top,literally, $11 waffle, cookie and ice cream creations. A delight for kids! Crazy Boba drinks and ice cream concoctions. Haphazard place with tough to make sense of order #s being yelled out at various volumes.

First time visitor so I stuck with the smiley faces on the menu which represented the recommended Entrees. We had a group of 6 (heads up — 18% gratuity added for groups of 4 or more). Everyone got something different. The beef kimchi over rice was the best. The lemon grass chicken over noodles was flavorless & greasy. The Thai spicy shrimp over rice was way to sweet! No one even wanted to finish it. The portions were big but they matched the price point. The food came out in random raves. My appetizer platter came out last so I tried to cancel it because we already had a ton of food and I was told that I couldn’t. Overall, the customer service was bad. The food was just okay. But the beef kimchi was on point this night! The boba 🧋 was fantastic! No complaints there.

Been there several times, but my last visit really disappointed me and my wife!! Food quality and taste are change in everything we normally ordered! Tasteless and in some food were too salty. Service was so so i think the old man busser way more attentive and friendly than our server..

1st time here while on vacation in Chicago and we had some hotpot. Food tasted amazing and the drinks were very flavorful! And to top it off they have some pretty cool wall decor! Definitely recommend

First off the Sunday opening time here at yelp nor in google is incorrect. They open at 12nn on Sundays. We had a little misunderstanding with the waitress but she was patient. The shabu-shabu ingredients were fresh and delicious. The broth is outstanding: we tried the beef and the seafood ones. In case you are tempted to get the snail skewered appetizer - it was not as we expected, very chewy.

We picked one of the hottest days to walk around China Town. I broke a sweat just crossing the street. Got a slight tingle in the back of my throat that strongly encouraged immediate hydration. So why not stop by one of the most favored boba and fruit tea shops. I had no idea what to order. Standing inside an establishment with nice COOL air allowed me time to carefully choose. I watched other customers leave with drinks in hand. Each one prettier than the next. Did I see matcha soft serve? Wow, next time. Peeked into the display case and spied the perfect combo for my drink; fresh strawberries and lychee jelly. Yes, please. A great compliment to the jasmine tea. Ice cold, fruity and every sip refreshing. We each chose different drinks and every one was happy.

Looking for boba's in Chicago Chinatown? Look no more..they have smoothies, boba's and fresh fruit freeze drinks! So many different flavors and selections. They uses fresh fruits for their freeze's. We ordered short ribs pho which was served in a huge bowl good for 3! The ribs were so tender. Bulgogi beef with rice, siomai, and coconut shrimps. We had 3 drinks , strawberry kiwi freeze with boba, mango freeze with boba and I forgot to take a pic of avocado freeze. Service to get in the food was pretty fast but after that you have to get their attention to get anything else you need. Space is huge but the good thing we didn't wait that long to get seated. It's a good spot for families since most foods are good for sharing. Parking- we went during marathon so every corner the road was closed so we had to park really far and then walk to chinatown but after the marathon they opened the street and they have a huge parking space.

Going during the day is the best time to go. It can get very crowded and busy. There are 2 kiosk stations and they take orders at the register. The drinks have options of the amount of sugar. The lowest is 30%. The staff is a young group. They aren't friendly even if you say hello. There are tables to sit at but it's not good for big groups. Not sure if you can call in your orders. Don't forget a straw. They have it next to the pickup area. The kids at the register do not check on the ink or tape on the register. I could barely read my register. The drinks are good and we still get the same each time and sometimes we try something new. Strawberry Lychee smoothie, mango lychee and coffee milk tea are the regulars. Recently tried the 2 lovers which is coffee&tea with boba. We also like the mango sago with pomelo. Only 1 size for their drinks!!! Tipping is optional and there is no surcharge on cc.

The kiddos couldn't walk past this cafe without ordering a drink. There's 2 locations that sells bubble tea, the walk up and the actual store. We went to the store, you can order on the kiosk otherwise there's someone at the counter who will help you. Small cafe but has tables and chairs for dine in. Which was perfect because some of the kids ordered the bubble waffle with ice cream. The large size bubble tea were bottles, which was perfect. We can reuse for other beverage.

So the funny thing is that as often as I visit China Town, I never walk the entire strip. I usually head right to Joyee. This time, I walked and ran into their other location, Joyee Plus. They sell Korean ice cream and shaved iced, along with milk tees. I love the Taro Milk tea and smoothies, so I tried the Taro ice cream with Boba. Delicious! The drink was some kind of fruit tea slush.

What a fun stop! I almost wished I wasn't as stuffed as I was. I really wanted to try the ice cream. Drinks were served In fun, sturdy tumblers that refilled nicely. Large size for the price. Always appreciated. Delicious to boot. Order from the kiosk exactly as you wish, with plenty of ideas to help you pick from. Very clean with friendly employees.

Sooooo they have reusable cups. Great. They look like glass but aren't. Plastic. Also, the ice cream drinks do not come with ice cream on top--- it's mixed in. But the menu photos show it on top. The drinks are unfortunately made with powder and not fresh, so I got the matcha. Boba is squishy and good. Customer service is impersonable 100% they just shout your number at you - I was sitting nursing my baby obviously unable to get my drink, no one helped they just shout my number until I raise my hand like yeah it's me. No personal touch here. huge sizing on drinks. Chocolate Asian ice creams delicious!!!!! Order on a kiosk.

Joyee plus has really good desserts. They are almost always busy and prices are fairly high in comparison to other dessert spots around. Today I got their mango and dragonfruit twist soft serve which is nice and fruity. They do have a few seats inside and outside but usually is packed so it is hard to find a seat.

Yummy and managed make it to the lunch special ($12 vs. $18) for the entrees. The service was alright but typically Asian (efficient and basic). Ambiance was standard, cute, and appropriate for a Chinatown hangout with lots of cartoons and colors.

Restaurant in china town. Had dessert there. I had the chocolate bubble waffle sundae and my friend had graham cracker version. Ice cream was really tasty but I wasn't the biggest fan of the bubble waffle. Very unique sundae. Quick service

On my last day in Chicago, I still had to come here to get a drink since I was still determining when I would spend my next time here. I ordered a refreshing honey kiwi oolong, which had no sour taste of the kiwi. I will miss their drink. I wish they can bring it to Boston.

We went here on a Monday and it was packed af. There was self order so we did that and git an Oreo and cram buckle waffle ice cream and chocolate boba. They were like pretty good but not so crazy but it was good. The ambiance was good but there were so many people that I couldn't enjoy it but it was good and like insta worthy.

Stopped by for dessert after having dinner at another place in Chinatown. Joy Yee Plus is sort of split into two with hot pot (which was being served upstairs) and the drinks/dessert (which was being served downstairs. The drinks seem to all come in reusable containers which is cool, but they also are a dollar or two more than what you'd spend a few doors down at the OG Joy Yee's. Split one of their special bubble waffles with a friend. We ordered the one with Taro ice cream, mango, coconut flakes, and mochi pieces. It was so good, I highly recommend and would definitely order it again. Was hoping for more of a chewy texture with the bubble waffle but it was fluffy and crispy and everything else you'd expect from a waffle. They had a bunch of other things there too that looked so intriguing like a bright pink dragon fruit soft serve. Came by on a Friday night and the place was PACKED. But they kept the line moving and they have seats inside and outside of the place. They didn't have a public bathroom in the downstairs but I was able to use the one in the upstairs with my receipt. Located in Chinatown square it's convenient if you're looking for something sweet after dinner!

I love the shabu shabu at JY+. I truly miss living 3 train stops away from Chinatown. Their drink options are a little different from Joy Yee too. My go to is the dragon queen with lychee jelly. We normally do the beef broth for the hot pot. I'm not too crazy about getting a bunch of stuff since we try not to over order. The order of premium beef for my husband and I was more than enough. My husband also doesn't eat a lot of shrimp so I normally eat most of it myself. Some of the shrimp were a bit mushy and isn't as fresh but that was like 1/6 shrimps. Their portion for the enoki mushroom is a lot actually. I thought it wasn't so I ordered 2 of them, but we actually love them so we didn't mind. My favorite appetizer is the grilled tentacles. I realized they changed their menu quite a bit since the last time I've been here because there's "grilled" options. They changed the tentacles up a bit to have that Vietnamese flare and it's so good! My husband and I got actually made our own dipping sauces for the hotpot but then we ended up using the fish sauce from the grilled tentacles bcos it was so good. Also, google says JY+ opens at 11:30am but it's actually just the downstairs and not the upstairs for the hotpot/food. The upstairs open at 12pm. We came here after one of my runs and we had to wait a little bit for them to open and I was so hungry haha

Joy Yee Plus offers a variety of different bobas and ice cream sundaes. I ordered the brown sugar boba sundae and it was MASSIVE. The cup is filled with vanilla ice cream drizzled in brown sugar syrup, with boba at the bottom of the cup, whipped cream atop, and a chocolate wafer. The sundae was definitely plenty enough for 2, if not more, to share. My friend and I were unable to finish this sundae together. The service was generally pretty quick. The space was very packed and busy.

Ordered a butterfly boba drink, Oreo bubble waffle and durian avocado shaved ice. First, the price is a big high here. The butterfly drink was grossly sweet, I thought it was not drinkable but my friend drank it anyways. The Oreo bubble waffle was decent, could have been crispier. Took a very very long time to come out. Then the avocado durian was good! The ice quality was low but the durian ice cream made it yummy and the avocado was fresh.

This used to be a shabu shabu spot and now it's fully a dessert parlor! We got two boba drinks, but honestly they were pretty subpar (watery flavor) and also expensive. Their other desserts look better (bubble waffles, ice cream, etc) so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with those! Nice branded boba cups though, you could probably reuse them!

I've been to Joy Yee numerous times but for drinks I was told you must come to Joy Yee Plus. I was really in the mood for some matcha soft serve ice cream and this place did not disappoint. Very good and not too sweet. Really enjoyed it. The menu for drinks can be a bit overwhelming. There's a multitude of combinations to choose from. But you really can't go wrong with any of the drinks. We got the Taro lovers and Tiger drink. Both were served over ice with a scoop of ice cream with boba. It was very good.

First of all, our day was long and the night was approaching. We decided to hit Chinatown for this adventure and turns out Night walking in Chinatown are the most astonishing and quiet, when you are having fun. Especially after having a big meal. The next thing in everyone's mind was dessert, and hunting for it became our priority number one. We decided to try something new and we were tired of boba tea. Our eyes came across Joy Yee Plus, We haven't had the opportunity of trying this place yet and it look modern with all the anime characters that we knew painted on the wall so we decided to give it a try. I ordered The ice cream with the waffle: Cookies and cream. Nothing too fancy. It took about five minutes to get my order but once i got it i was shocked for the surprise i got delivered. i was expecting a small dessert, but what i got was a 12 inch masterpiece, a cup filled with wonders. Vanilla Ice cream, covered in Oreo crumbles with two full Oreos in top with a crispy marshmallow impale with a banana pocky, submerge in hot fudge and everything tucked, wrapped in a protective and perfect bubble waffle. Perfection in front of me but nonetheless good and yummy. We had one thing in our minds and ice cream from Joy Yee Plus was the perfect dessert with the flawless combination of ingredients to end the perfect night. I look forward to going again

Over priced for something so disappointing. Got 2 drinks . (103 & 104 ) . Too much boba and skimped us on ice cream. The flavor was not it. It looked better than it was. HUFF

LOVE their dessert options and presentation. There are so many different types of ice creams and drinks, you're sure to find something that meets your sweet tooth. I've had their bubble waffle with purple yam ice cream and it's delicious. When family and friends visit and want dessert, this is usually our go-to because of all the different options. They have so many flavors that you wouldn't find at a typical ice cream shop, which makes them a perfect destination for ice cream and dessert lovers. Of the times I've visited, the inside is packed with people waiting. Their desserts take a while to make, so you can find yourself waiting for 15+ minutes on a moderately busy day. There's not much room to sit, so I wouldn't plan on hanging around the shop. You can order at the counter, but they also have a kiosk that you can order from. They do not take online orders.

Like everyone else, I saw this place online and was enticed by the drink sizes + varieties. I had a bit of decision paralysis, but opted for the taro coco freeze with green boba. It was refreshing on a hot day, but the drink tasted quite watered down. Would have preferred a stronger taro taste. Maybe stick to a milk tea next time?

very, very disapointing. the place is a mess. the tables not clean, the floor is filthy. we ordered, and the desserts were pretty good, but had i noticed the filth before we ordered and paid, i would have walked out. yes, it was sunday, and yes, it was busy, but that is more the reason to keep the place tidy, clean and inviting, as any good restaurant plans, and this place should have a "cleaner" circulating especially when they are busy.

Came here for the first time a few days ago. Located right in Chinatown Joyeeplus is a cute shop that specializes in boba. You can get boba tea, ice coffee, milkshake, smoothies, etc. I decided on the mango smoothie which cost approximately $8.60. However, the portions you get I think the price is well worth it. I found myself sipping on my drink for hours. The cup it comes in is really nice too. There's also a ton of other fun shops to look at to in the area, you should definitely give this place a try. Next time I come I'm definitely trying the ice cream!

Clean atmosphere, friendly staff, lots of options for teas, boba, and ice creams. Got the Dragon tea and was filled with fruits and jellies, so delicious and refreshing. Also having a resealable lid was really a nice touch so I could just throw it in my bag and didn't have to carry it around with fear of spilling. Such a large amount for a hood price

Joy Yee Plus has a wide variety of food and drink! We've sampled a variety of milk teas here, and I've liked the flavors of all of them! Their boba is on the doughier side, which may deter some, but I quite like the texture. The service is quick and the anime themed ambiance is very cool.

Very poor customer service. The woman that served us had trouble understanding us and showed us poor attitude. We clearly told her what we wanted to order yet she keeps telling us "I don't understand what you are talking about" to the point that we had to point to her all our orders on the menu. While we were waiting for our appetizers some customers came and were clearly dissatisfied with her service; they told me that she had allegedly told them "do want you want to do" when they asked for seats. Obviously they left. The food was okay. The appetizers came very late and we were served with cold, greasy, and soggy fried calamari & tentacles. The rest were fine; the bulgogi fried rice and the hot pot. The ambience lacked. Not much to see except cartoons on the walls. It was noisy (speakers) and messy as well. There were trash around the floor and the servers just walked around them. In conclusion I wouldn't recommend the place but everyone has different palates. Just hope that the server I had mentioned won't be serving you next time.

Located in chicago's chinatown, this shop offers a plethora of desserts ranging from ice cream, boba, and bubble waffles. The drinks here are super pretty. This place does get super packed so definitely be patient!

Got a few bubble waffles however they were not as chewy as I expect - they were dense and the flavor is a little bland too.

We came back for our watermelon drink and it wasn't on the menu so instead we opted for a little dessert. The place was packed and it took almost 30 minute receive our Carmel Bubble Waffle. You definitely need the ice cream because it was pretty mediocre with just Carmel and powdered sugar.

Cute little spot! I recommend this place for your tween or teen to come have a cool bubble tea or dessert. We've been meaning to check this place out for fruit tea. We popped in yesterday. My daughter loves the tea from a place a couple of doors down but I convinced her to try Joy Yee Plus. She was so happy she did! We got the pineapple mango fruit tea and the bubble waffle ice cream dessert. The tea was delicious! The bubble waffle was so good and had many treats placed on it like Kit Kats, charcoal ice cream, pocky and of course the light yummy waffle. The place is just as cute as the drinks they make! Anime on the wall for decor really makes you feel like you're in a cool Japanese tea shop. They have all sorts of sweets and drinks. The portion sizes of the cups and desserts are huge so you get more bang for your buck. She mentioned she wants to come back here again so I guess this is her new found favorite spot.

Matcha Ice Cream is great! The Graham Cracker uses vanilla ice cream from soft serve machine. The vanilla ice cream is not good. I recommend ordering ice cream that has to be scooped rather than from a machine.

Really cute place with potential. I'm learning about the different teas, so I thought sparking tea would be fizzy somehow, but it's not. Also doesn't look like the pic. The lemon is dirty too. The service was rude and dismissive too. If the weather were warmer, I would've gotten ice cream.

I hope they bring the shabu shabu back soon. It's honestly one of the best kept secrets in Chinatown. This place is located in New Chinatown, which is that long two-story strip mall on the corner of Cermak and Wentworth Avenue. It's a separate store from Joy Yee, which you'll notice will have a massive line at the drink window. If you like the drinks at Joy Yee, Joy Yee Plus has the same drinks without the long lines or wait. But the true unsung hero of Joy Yee Plus is the shabu shabu, or hot pot. Before COVID ruined everything, I used to love getting the shabu shabu here. It's impressively authentic, and they offer a huge range of condiments to make your own sauces, which is the truly fun part of the experience (I imagine the communal condiment station is the reason why they had to stop the hot pot temporarily). The amount of food you get for ordering one of the mini hot pot sets is enough to feed 3 people comfortably. I have ordered their drinks, and they have an extremely wide selection--probably to the point where you'll be paralyzed with indecision. I'm talking pages. Been here many times. I realize that they are very busy, especially on weekends, but everytime I come the place is filthy! Tables are never cleaned and floors are full of straw wrappers and napkins. Nonetheless l, their boba is good and I love the bubble waffles! Pretty pricey but worth it imo.

There are many places here in Chinatown Square that offers the same type of dessert, what makes JY+ so special other than they offer you the best bubble tea drink at the parent restaurant Joy Yee. I been passing thru until now. They have a menu by the door and when you order. You walk up to the plexiglass counter and talk into the microphone. The only issue with that is that the person listening to you can hear your order but you can't hear what she is telling you. I ordered two desserts, one waffle cone with and without ice cream. I waited 20 minutes to find out she only put in one of the two. Yes, some will say, you can tell what you ordered by the price on your receipt, but it was $15 - I guess how would I know $15 is one item. Overall, the one dessert was good but I wish they could repeat the order back to the customer to confirm.

Came here for some fruit tea as I heard that they were pretty good. I was overwhelmed with the sheer number of options they had. Their lines were long, but it was worth the wait. They used fresh fruit in their teas and they tasted amazing. Would recommend coming here for a refreshing drink after a meal.

I've been visiting this spot for years. Every single time there's a line out the door. They've got great beverages and dessert items. I'd recommend the house matcha! In the terms of endearment Asian phrase to describe desserts, "it's not too sweet". It has matcha ice cream, red beans, and some other items in a bubble waffle. This can easily be split between two people or if you have a big appetite/love desserts you might want to save it for yourself. There is limited seating--just plan accordingly. I'd recommend the other Joy Yee establishments too in the square/China town.

Protip: Try the ice cream Highlights: Durian ice cream is very flavorful and intrigues me enough to try more ice cream from here. Lowlights: I can't remember exactly what the second item we ordered was, but it was essentially vanilla soft serve drenched in black sugar and we were all surprised by that based on what the item was called. Would not recommend.

This place can definitely get crowded, but that is basically this entire strip of Chinatown! They have kiosks for ordering, and there are a lot of unique menu items, including bubble waffles, bubble teas, ice cream sundaes, etc. Definitely worth a stop if you are exploring dessert options in Chinatown.

I've been going to Joy Yee since I was first introduced to it years ago. My friends and I love visiting this place for boba especially, although we need to come and try the shabu shabu. When I went, there was plexiglass to separate the cashier and the customers. A microphone was set up so that customers could easily speak to the cashier, while maintaining some distance. The menu showed a variety of different flavors so you could probably find at least one flavor that you'd enjoy. I ordered my usual green tea bubble tea drink. The drink came in a tall, plastic container, covered with a plastic film to prevent spilling. The tea itself was a good balance between matcha flavor and sweetness. The tapioca balls were decent. The only critique I have is that the price was a little expensive, but overall a great place to visit!

Viet-chinese owned! Durian ice cream is bomb! Generous scoops, creamy, sticky, packs a strong durian flavor.

Super expensive for their boba but really cute bottles. Only downside is the straws are too small for the bottle. Service wise they have waffle ice cream and several juice options too.

Well, we have been in many place like this in the past. However, this is completely different with the others. The place is crowded and well maintenance (maybe just open). So, I ordered my favorite drink which was Thai tea and took over 10 minutes to get it. I took first sip and stop taking it right away, because it was using very strong artificial flavor compared with others. If you're tolerating with artificial drinks and this is place for you. The reason I give 3 stars because the place is well clean and they used pretty nice containers for the drinks.

In Chinatown there are two Joy Yee locations. One is the restaurant that also serves boba and there is this one that just sells boba/desserts. At Joy Yee Plus there is a verity of dinks. This place has regular boba drinks but there are options to add ice cream to the drinks. You can also get a verity of tea drinks and there is waffles! Definitely worth checking out and the bottles are so cute!
