Thai Food in Sacramento (2025)
JP Thai Kitchen

Sam B.

Google
I think this restaurant is a hidden gem. Whenever I come in, I am seated almost immediately and upon ordering, the food arrives very fast. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is also really good as well. I would definitely recommend eating here.

Michael W.

Google
JP Thai Kitchen is a hidden gem on Freeport Blvd in Sacramento. The food is delicious with an excellent service. The dining room is a little dated but comfortable. I have the Roasted Duck Curry and Spicy Fish (I want it mild). I also ordered brown rice for the curry. All the dishes are delicious. However, I hope the Roasted Duck Curry is a little more creamy. It is more like a curry soup; even the curry tastes very well.

Google
I have driven past this nondescript location numerous times. I finally stopped in and realize now that I have missing out on a great Thai place! As they say, you shouldnt judge a book by its cover, you shouldnt judge JP Thai Kitchen by its exterior. Inside is nicely decorated. Tables and the space are clean. The person taking orders and serving food was nice and professional. And the food was very delicious. For my first visit I went with the papaya salad and yellow curry with chicken. Both were seasoned very well. The salad hit the sweet, sour, and salty notes. The curry was rich and flavorful with lots of chicken, potatoes and carrots to make it a filling dish. While tasty, I did not find any of the food too spicey. If I was to criticize, it would be that people who expect Thai food to be very hot might be left wanting for more heat. Fortunately they can provide an assortment of chilli flakes and hot sauces to adjust as you like.

Christopher L.

Google
The Thai food here was soooo good! All the food had a very comfortable amount of heat without being overpowering! We got the red curry, fires rice, spicy fish, and pad Thai, and i couldn't stop eating it was so good. I think my only complaint is that the spicy fish didn't have much fish for $16. It was maybe like 2 pieces of fish per person. Also they do not provide any complimentary rice with any dishes, even the curry, and that's an extra $1.50 per bowl, which I didn't like. The service was good though and they were always coming up to us refilling our water and asking if we were doing well.

Kippy H

Google
We ordered takeout and she was so good about making sure we got everything we wanted and had enough for our group. She was very attentive and accommodating customizing a dish to our liking. I will definitely be back!

Grace L.

Google
I could barely enjoy the ingredients because the whole plate was covered with overly strong sauce. Some bites were suddenly salty or acidic and too overwhelming for the taste making it an unbalanced dish for me. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you enjoy excessive seasoning or Pad Thai on the heavily sweet side.

Barbara C.

Google
I had read their angel wings were top rated. Turns out they were the worst I've ever had. Half the size, tasteless. Chicken meat in the coconut soup overcooked, however broth flavorful. Duck curry average. I will give the service a good rating, but won't be back

Hank W.

Google
Fantastic Gluten Free chicken fried rice!! The heat level is perfect at 2 and then the added bonus of being able to up your heat at the table with the selection of Thai chilies and sauces is amazing!!!

Yelp
Takeout review only. First time to try JP since moving to the area. The outside doesn't look great (but has good reviews), so I decided to just do takeout. Order was ready in about 20 minutes. The inside is bright, clean and open with mainly booths and tables along the wall. I'll probably dine in next visit because it seemed like a nice, casual and welcoming vibe inside. The food was fantastic. We ordered the pineapple fried rice ($19) that comes with chicken, shrimp, pineapple, peanuts, and a few veggies. It also contained raisins, which I'm not a fan of in savory dishes, but it was so good, I forgot about picking them out. We had the chicken tom kha soup ($16) that was so fragrant and flavorful. Delicious and nicely balanced flavors from the lemon grass and coconut milk. I got the pad thai with shrimp ($17). So good. Not too sweet and the chili I added to it was a perfect complement. The portions were big, making it a great value with plenty of leftovers. I've found my new neighborhood Thai place! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Mishelei B.

Yelp
The food was really good and the staff seems small but very attentive. The place is pretty spacious and I enjoyed how authentic their food taste! I would like to try other dishes next time when I'm in the area. The bathroom area isn't really ideal but it's simple. Nothing too fancy just a great place to pop in if you want to try authentic Thai food.

Yelp
I've been going to JP Thai for some time now. Food is consistently good. Have tried a variety of dishes and they all smack. Service is super friendly and kind. Always greeted with a smile. Patient and attentive. Can't say enough about the ladies that serve. They have Thailand inspired decor, and 2 TVs playing food shows featuring Thai cuisine. Everyone I've come here with enjoy's their meal.
google avatar

KC C.

Yelp
JP Thai is my go to Thai place because of their authentic Thai flavors and that they're close to home. We're always greeted by a friendly smile each time we're there and the service is great. We're checked in during and after our meal. The food dishes are packed with that sweet and savory flavors and so good, no matter what you order. But during lunch time my go to are: phad Thai and the phad kee mao. Something about the wide noodles, I just can't get enough of. The portions are perfect or I sometimes take it to go. You'll have to stop by and check it out for yourself.

Yelp
Great flavors, great service, and ambiance! Went here for lunch meet up with my pal, Mike H...and we had a perfect afternoon lunch. The beef larb salad was #3 of 4 level spicy and it was quite tasty yet had a kick that wasnt overly over the too hot...just a good kick to compliment the lovely flavors or the larb dish. The Pad See Ew was also good. The stuffed chicken was good, too! Perfect spot for a relaxing lunch

Yelp
Revisited recently to dine in, and as always, left happy. The portion sizes and quality of food is just so good. We got Angel wings, pad Thai, drunken noodles, and avocado green curry. The Angel wings were hot and stuffed, pad Thai incredibly flavorful, avocado green curry was tasty with lots of avocado and drunken noodles not too spicy. I do think I prefer pad see ew over drunken noodles solely because there is more flavor in the pad see ew, but was still content. We chatted with Pramrika (sp?) a worker/owner?? and she was telling us that they make three of the sauces and jalapeños in house! We loved the jalapeños so much we ordered a small container and finished it in a few days lol. Next time we come back we will order the larger container.

Yelp
I love this place the food is always so good. The service is always friendly. my favorite is the eggplant with seafood combo. always incredibly good and beautiful to look at.

Yelp
We've been coming here for so long that it is a staple in our home and I've forgotten to ever write a review. JP Thai is authentic Thai food and always satisfies. I've tried mostly everything on the menu and it is all good. From their fresh salads to their delicious soups---curries and pad thai. Everything is delicious, heat element is perfect, sauces are fragrant. We mostly get take out but if eating in the restaurant, service is awesome and I like the old school feel of the place though it could be a little more welcoming. All in all this is a great place with owners who take pride in their food and service.
google avatar

Janus C.

Yelp
Everything is good here, the pad thai and the drunken noodles. I found the avocado green curry interesting, but I probably wouldn't reorder. Huge portions! We ordered a ton for leftovers.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for new spots and I was very pleased to have found this spot and it actually delivered some really tasty Thai food. The service was friendly and this seemed like a family run business so everyone was working hard. The place is clean and good for all types of groups. I was recently there on a Friday night and there was a good bunch of folks getting dinner and there were still open tables. I ended up trying a bunch of different dishes. The Tom yum was just enough for 2 but had a good amount of chicken and mushrooms. The Panang curry was flavorful and consistent with what I had before. The eggplant was cooked well and had a good mix of veggies and chicken. My favorite was the drunken noodle as it was cooked well and full of meat and veggies. Next time, I am in the mood for Thai food this spot is on the list.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Service is good. Loved the PraRam peanut sauce Trying their drunken noodles

Yelp
Came here for dinner with little brother . This place has plenty of parking , inside the restaurant is a bit dim and dark. We order the golden bag, chicken green avacado curry and seafood combo Thai basil with fried eggs. The staff here is friendly and quick with our drinks . Appetizer came out quick and hot. The golden bag was nothing special , you definitely have to put the dipping sauce , it brings out the flavor . chicken green avacado curry was interesting and taste like a surprise playground in your mouth , but not in good way. My favorite was the seafood combo Thai basil with fried eggs. This one was the most savory , the fish was delicious and there was Only 2 prawns and 2 mussel . I wished it had more mussels. . I took the rest of my leftover vegetables and cook salmon and place it on top of the veggies. It was much better The service was excellent

Yelp
Excellent Thai restaurant. This is our go-to when it comes to Thai food. I highly recommend

Yelp
Came here for dinner on friday around 6-6:30. It was pretty empty but some other parties came and they had a gooood amount of to go orders. I got the beef rad na. All the food came out in like 10-15 minutes. Overall most of the food was pretty good. I think the proportion for mine was pretty good, maybe because of the gravy tho? The drunken noodles looked pretty small compared to other dishes and was pretty oily. I also tried the prawn silver noodles, came with 5 big shrimps and was pretty good. We also got the mango sticky rice. It was reallll small or smaller than i expected lol but pretty good. Condense milk was diff? More watery or liquidy than normal condensed milk i think but still good. Overall pretty good, pricing not too bad and service is good, they r very friendly and nice.

Yelp
First time, thought to check it out. When we walked in there was only one customer. We were seated right away. The waitress/server even answered questions I had because I was confused on the menu. Anyways, I order a plate of rice with seafood curry and papaya salad. One cost about $16 and the other was about $15. Mind you, I was hungry. When I heard the bell and she was not going back to grab my food, I got really hangry. She just kept walking around touching this and that. At this time we were the only customers. When she finally walked over with my rice plate, the portion was so disappointing. It was a serving for a child. A handful of rice and the curry, omgoodness the curry, one small piece of fish, one piece of shrimp, one mussel, and one slice of squid and a few veggies for $16. Then the papaya salad came and I said, ok it's a decent size, come to find out, wtheck, it was just a small serving on top of some lettuce. On top of that it was salty.. for $15. Never going back.

Yelp
We had a big family dinner here and the service was great! Everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes and we were all able to sit together. It was pretty empty but worked to our advantage to be able to hear each other. The restaurant was also very clean.
google avatar

Hudson S.

Yelp
Friendly service. Excellent fresh spring rolls with avocado instead of shrimp or tofu. It's a little dark and dated inside and attached to a car repair shop. But I thought it holds its own with other well-rated Thai restaurants in Sacramento.
google avatar

Dana K.

Yelp
Food was very meh. I honestly don't understand the great reviews. We ordered drunken noodle and eggplant stir fry, curry noodle and angel wings to share. Wings were cold inside, everything was such a disappointment.
google avatar

Saran W.

Yelp
I've visited JP Thai twice now and have really enjoyed it. I came first with a friend and then returned with my husband for lunch. Both times we were greeted so warmly. My favorite items are definitely the basil Thai fried rice and the drunken noodles - the "wok hay" (taste of the wok / aromatic stir fry flavor) is soo good and is the main reason I want to keep coming back. The red curry and Thai iced teas were also good but not standouts compared to the other items. The restaurant interior is nicely decorated with some videos of Thai food playing on the TV. The service is wonderful and both times I visited, there were a few other tables occupied with a steady stream of takeout orders being picked up. I plan to visit many more times in the near future!

Yelp
After trying out some Vietnamese food here, we were hesitant about trying Thai food. Thank goodness we did. We ordered the green curry, crab fried rice and the lemongrass chicken. This had to be one of the best tasting lemongrass chickens I've had. Green curry and the crab fried rice was solid also. Definitely one to stop by if we are doing a road trip and stopping by the area again.

Yelp
I've passed by this place and finally decided to give it a try and wow was I missing out! not only was the service quick and super polite, but i swear their Tom Kha soup literally healed me, it was perfectly sour, while still maintaining the main savory flavor. It was so good I had to come back to try the panang curry, which was also equally amazing!
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
My client took me to lunch here today. I got the Thai Eggplant with tofu. It was delicious! Our server was really nice. The level of spice was perfect for me. The decor is aged and a little kitschy, but my client told me it used to be a pizza place - that explains some of the light fixtures! It's a solid 4-stars for sure currently. I'm going to take my husband back and try a couple more dishes to see if they warrant 5!

Lisa A.

Yelp
Best Thai food in Sacramento. There were two on broadway that closed that were really good this is the last one left with authentic flavors.
google avatar

Skynet S.

Yelp
They charge you extra for rice. Honestly it's an insult and rip off. It might be acceptable if their entrée prices were lower or reasonable but they are higher then other Thai restaurants who give you complimentary rice with your dish. For this reason of extra for rice I will no longer eat here.

Rosa L.

Yelp
Decent food, huge portions. I ordered: Tofu Pad Thai with Level 1 spice: It didn't have that tangy sauciness and bouncy noodles I'm looking for in a Pad Thai, but it was still a good dish nonetheless. The spice was not noticeable; if you're looking for a hint of spice, I'd choose Level 2. Golden Prawns: Tasty morsels of shrimp and a crispy exterior. Can't see how you could go wrong with these. Red Curry with Level 3 spice: Spice definitely shone in this one but it wasn't overwhelming. Curry was a good flavor but chicken was a bit dry.
google avatar

Shawn B.

Yelp
I had the sweet and sour chicken, and while it wasn't what I'm used to, the flavor pleasantly surprised me. However, the chicken itself could've been better and there wasn't enough of it. We also had the drunken noodles and this dish was much more enjoyable. Friendly staff, which made the experience nicer!
google avatar

Todd S.

Yelp
We have been eating here since they opened and the food is consistently great. I'm a big fan of their specialties. The smoked eggplant and spicy fish and whole fish either steamed or fried are wonderful. The service is always prompt even when they're busy, although we always order out so I can't speak to their table service. Definitely recommended!
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
We ordered take out and tried JP Thai Kitchen for the first time. Order: pad thai, green and avocado curry with chicken, and beef eggplant. They recommended the green and avocado curry, but my family thought the eggplant dish was actually the best of the 3 we ordered. Not to say the curry wasn't good. Just the eggplant was better.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Thai food. But for some reason, JP Thai Kitchen is always skipped when thinking about where to have lunch or dinner in the area. I think it may be because I am very familiar with the area. I just discovered I skipped an excellent Thai food in the neighborhood, which I think I know all about. Lol! JP Thai Kitchen is at a section of Freeport Blvd, a little off from all the businesses. I think this is one of the reasons I have overlooked them for a long time. But I finally found them. I have my dinner there. Oh! Wow! They're excellent! Both food and service. I ordered the Roast Duck Curry and a Brown Rice. The curry is perfect. All the ingredients and, of course, the duck are delicious. The brown rice is cooked perfectly too. Not too soft or too hard. I enjoyed the Roast Duck Curry. They didn't ask me for the spicy levels. But it is perfect for me. The dining room is big and classical-looking. It is comfortable and clean. The lady who served the dining room (I think she is the owner) goes above and beyond to ensure all her customers are taken good care of. I know they're there now! I like Thai food. They have good Thai food. I'll be there again.
google avatar

Gillian A.

Yelp
Hmm seems like a go-to Thai food spot for people living in the same neighborhood but I thought the food was okay to put it very nicely. Chicken satay was decently tender, but it was unappetizing to see a pool of oil sitting on the surface of the peanut sauce. Liked the chunky pineapple pieces in the pineapple fried rice, but the rice itself was very bland and soggy. I can see why people enjoy the pad thai here because the noodles aren't overly drenched in sauce like at other Thai places. Pretty tasty too. Didn't appreciate that it was served with a really bruised and discolored lemon wedge though (questionable that a specific area of the skin was cut off). Ehhh I dunno. I did a takeout order and I felt that I was given some old food inventory so staff can easily get rid of it especially when it comes to the condiments. Perhaps dining in is much better in terms of food freshness.
google avatar

Dao V.

Yelp
The angel wings were stuffed wit more meat than other restaurants n delicious. The roast duck larb n the thai boat noodle were good as well. The pad thai was ok, my wife liked it but I thought it was mid. Def will come back! The food was very good n good service.
google avatar

Mai X.

Yelp
This restaurant is connected to an auto body shop so if you don't look carefully, you might not even realize it's a restaurant. The food was really good, though. I wish I lived closer so I can come back to try other items. My husband and I ordered the laos style papaya salad, duck curry, pad thai, and calamari. The papaya salad was one of the best I've had. I asked for mild spicy and I did not taste the spice at all, so either they did not put any peppers in it or their peppers aren't spicy. The duck curry was alright. I thought it could use a little more coconut for that creamy coconut curry taste. The pad thai was also one of the best I've had. It was flavorful and tasted just right. We enjoyed the calamari as well. They were crispy and easy to chew. In terms of price, the food is pricey considering their portions are not a lot, but the food quality makes up for it. It's expensive everywhere anyway, so I don't mind. It's a good size restaurant and was pretty empty when we went. It's nice and quiet in there. They probably mostly get takeout orders. Service was fine. The waitress will come if you wave at her. We had planned on going to Siam instead but it was closed today so I'm glad we came here instead.

Yelp
We had lunch here yesterday and enjoyed a wonderful meal. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived. My wife had pad thai and I had drunken noodles. We both had Thai ice tea. Both our noodle dishes were excellent. When our food arrived I thanked our server in Thai. Her beautiful face broke out in an even bigger smile and we talked about Thailand. In some Thai restaurants the servers don't speak any Thai. The love for Thailand and its wonderful cuisine really shows here. Our server asked if we wanted spicy sauces and brought a container with 6 different chili sauces just like in many restaurants in Thailand. I would have included photos, but the food was too good. Thank you JP Thai Kitchen. We will see you soon. Don't speed by too fast along Freeport or you might miss this treasure. Watch for the small green sign.
google avatar

Yelp
My favourite Thai place ever. The food and service are the best I swear to God the lady remembers me and my order everythime

Scott C.

Yelp
Solid Thai food for the area. This is a great place if you don't have dinner planned and wanted something with great flavor.
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
The Thai food here was soooo good! All the food had a very comfortable amount of heat without being overpowering! We got the red curry, fires rice, spicy fish, and pad Thai, and i couldn't stop eating it was so good. I think my only complaint is that the spicy fish didn't have much fish for $16. It was maybe like 2 pieces of fish per person. Also they do not provide any complimentary rice with any dishes, even the curry, and that's an extra $1.50 per bowl, which I didn't like. The service was good though and they were always coming up to us refilling our water and asking if we were doing well.

Greg M.

Yelp
Quiet, hole-in-the-wall gem on Freeport that you might just miss. Beautiful interior, fast service, and great food! Lunch portions are decent and have great prices.
google avatar

Dominic O.

Yelp
Best Thai in Sac. Always good. Try the smoked eggplant special or their cashew nut dish.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Hidden gem for sure! My favorite Thai spot! I have not found another thai spot that beats their pad thai! I usually get their Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and their Basil fried rice. I love it! They are always extremely nice at the register!
google avatar

Kellie W.

Yelp
I've been to Thai restaurants. Throughout California with my travels for work and this is by far my favorite. I've never gotten a dish I didn't love! Highly recommend the Chicken pad Thai with extra peanuts!

Anderson T.

Yelp
This is a decent Thai restaurant in Sacramento. While it's not the best, it's certainly not the worst. The dishes are okay, but it's odd to charge extra for rice with dishes that usually come with rice. The staff is friendly.
google avatar

Alyssa A.

Yelp
A new favorite! I know it's basic but I always get the Pad Thai when we go to new Thai restaurants as a comparison and this one did not disappoint! Less sweet than others in town which was a positive for me. They also packed a ton in the container so I was able to have it for lunch the next day as well. Husband got the boat noodles with beef. The broth was super flavorful and came with a selection of toppings and hot spices/sauces for you to adjust the heat. I think the only negative I have was the sticky rice with mango. Not bad by any means but it was on the mushy/watery side and definitely did not compare to the quality of others in town. Overall we'd definitely come back! Service was fast and friendly, plus large portion sizes.

Simran D.

Yelp
Food 10/10 service 10/10 good find. Green curry was phenomenal would recommend to anyone. Wife was hangry when we arrived. She's leaving happy for now.
google avatar

Song H.

Yelp
Excellent Green Curry! I tried the green curry at a spice level 3, with pork and added eggplant... it was so delicious! A thinner curry than some others I've had but excellent flavor. My partner had the Thai Basil Chicken dish, also at a 3 and loved it. We got take away, and it took a bit, but that was because the place was packed! Clearly I didn't know the gem I lived next to. Nice inside for sure.

KaeRae Art C.

Yelp
12/23. Nine of our line dance group went to JP Thai for lunch after class. We were very pleased with the food and service. The atmosphere was very friendly and we could talk to our hearts content. The server had a lot of business acumen and before the restaurant was busy, took food orders from whoever was ready to order. Since I wasn't ready, when the food was served I had to wait. Waiting a little bit was ok, because I had a difficult time trying to choose the dish I wanted and there was no reason for others in our group to wait. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. Very good and oodles of food. I took about 2/3 of it home for leftovers dining at home. A friend ordered the Pad See Ew which has the wide "fun" type of noodle. It also looked delicious and I will try it the next time. Another person ordered the avocado curry - lots of avocado. Yummy.
google avatar

Cheng X.

Yelp
Inside is clean. Service was great. The food wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I had ordered a thaiboat. The noodle appeared to be glass noodles unlike the traditional pho noodles. It was a weird texture in combo with the broth of boat noodles. I'd come back to try another food. I'm sure other food on the menu would not disappoint unlike the thaiboat noodle.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get Thai in Sacramento. Worth the drive from Elk Grove. The green curry is my favorite and I love spicy so I get it Thai Hot. Pad Thai is delicious and that roti for dessert, just get it. The service is always top notch and everyone working there is super friendly. The restaurant is always clean and warm welcoming.

Yelp
I order food here for the very first time and through door dash for group order (treating everyone for lunch) . The food was packed with flavor. Their pad Thai is very delicious. Have salty and a tad sweet to the noodles which I like but still pack with flavor. I have to say this is the best pad Thai noodles I have in Sacramento. Compare to some places, pad Thai are usually more on a sweeter side. Another order we had was crab fried rice. Ohhh, they use real crab meat and not those imitation crabs. I can understand why is a lil pricey but the portion is really good for the price. Yellow curry with a mild kick. I love spicy food and this is actually my first time having it with spice. Normally, I see a lot of place have yellow curry of a more sweet/salty taste. The curry they have is very good. The potatoes are perfectly cooked. Not undercooked or over cooked. Service I would say 10/10. We had a few who are picky. One didn't like tomatoes and the other didn't like peanuts. Each box was labeled with our name and description. Staff member are very attentive. I would recommend if anyone who like their food packed with flavor and attentive staff. I would def return again.

Annissa F.

Yelp
Everything we ate was delicious. And we ate a LOT. Lol The ladies working there were so nice and super attentive. Also, the inside is pretty cute. Very clean. Lots of open space too so you don't feel crowded.
