The Best Jamaican Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Jrk! Is the kind of affordable, fast takeout spot we all hope to live within lunch break distance of. For about $16, you’ll shuffle down an assembly line and act as the creative director of your very own bowl. Pick a protein like jerk chicken, curry chicken, pepper steak, shrimp, or oxtail. Then it's on to bases: rice and peas, jerk fried rice, jerk quinoa, or mixed greens. There are more toppings, but just ask for as many pineapple plantains as they'll give you. Then come back at night for a very different sort of dinner at Mangrove next door." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino

Jrk! Downtown - Review - Downtown - Miami - The Infatuation

"This casual Jamaican spot serves the best lunch deal in Downtown. For about $16, you’ll shuffle down an assembly line and act as the creative director of your very own bowl. Pick a protein like jerk chicken with satisfying heat, curry chicken, pepper steak, shrimp, or oxtail. Then it's on to bases: rice and peas, jerk fried rice, jerk quinoa, or mixed greens. There are more toppings, but just ask for as many pineapple plantains as they'll give you. If the dining room next door feels like a vacant bar, that’s because it is. Come back at night when it turns into Mangrove for drinks, dancing, and more dinner options." - Ryan Pfeffer

Miami’s New Restaurant Openings - Miami - The Infatuation

"This casual Jamaican restaurant is one of our favorite spots to eat inside the Aventura mall. But now folks Downtown can enjoy their jerk chicken bowl with rice and peas, cabbage slaw, and pineapple plantains. It’s located directly across the street from the courthouse—perfect if you get selected for jury duty." - Ryan Pfeffer, Virginia Otazo

Google
I discovered this spot by accident. I was in the elevator at my hotel and saw a couple holding takeout bags from the restaurant. The food smelled so good that I Googled the name on the bag right there. It ended up being just a block or two away, so I walked over. I’m so glad I did. The food was fresh, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. Hospitality was A1. There isn’t a lot of seating, but I was still able to sit and enjoy my meal. The playlist was on point too — good tunes, good vibes. It’s a small but cozy comfort spot with real Jamaican soul-food energy ( vegetarian options as well) I ordered jerk fried rice ( bussin!) with oxtail (so tender fell right off the bone) , shrimp, cabbage, sweet plantains, jerk mac and cheese, a beef patty, and a drink. My total was around $60, and it was worth it. The portions were big, and I even had leftovers the next day, which still tasted amazing. Definitely a spot I’d recommend — flavor and vibes A1. I usually dint write reviews but I had to give this place its flowers - I’ll def visit again !

Google
Wonderful Jamaican. restaurant in Miami. Great location Very clean establishment with plenty of seating in back! The interior is fun and has an exciting Jamaican vibe! The service from Willie was outstanding and he is an example of hard work for the whole staff! The food was excellent. Everything is made fresh! The Jerk Mac n Cheese was absolutely delicious! Definitely a must try for all!

Google
Ordered food from here via Uber Eats. They had a Buy1 get 1 free on Jerk Chicken. I am Jamaican. This place did not disappoint. The food was fresh and flavourful. I was surprised at how fast it was delivered to my hotel. From the pictures online, they restaurant seems new and clean.

Google
Food is always good they give love portions. Only downfall about my last visit is that the manager was yelling at the lady fixing my bowl. Saying her friendship with the cashier will cost her her job and continued to yell at her and chastise her in front of everyone. That was a conversation that should have been had in private not in front of a full restaurant.

Google
Today was my 2nd visit at Jrk and man was it great I had to leave a honest review. I got a curry chicken and my partner got the oxtail. We both loved our meals. Greg at behind the register was extremely kind and greeted me once I walked in. The portion I received was crazy, closing my lid was difficult. Just a 10/10 experience. Thanks to this team for amazing food, service and overall experience!

When I walked in, there was no visible menu, and the woman at the counter was on the phone talking extremely loud. I stood there confused until I grabbed a paper menu—only for her to tell me it was a catering menu and then direct me to the food area. She said it was “like Chipotle,” where you choose your items as you go, but the problem is you can’t even see the prices until you’re at the end of the line. I picked my rice, protein, and veggies. I asked for plantains first and then broccoli—all in one bowl. After the server put the broccoli on (only two small pieces, by the way), he told me afterward that it was extra. When I said something, he suggested taking it off — after it was already on my food. At that point, I was just over it and said, “No worries,” but he started acting annoyed, as if it was my fault. Then we moved on to the sauces — no utensils, no napkins, nothing offered. I just grabbed my food and left laughing in disbelief. I was honestly so upset. I paid $12 for parking just to eat here was $18, and after a long overnight shift, this was supposed to be my one good meal of the day. Instead, I left frustrated, hungry, and disappointed. The food wasn’t even good — mostly bones, barely any meat, and the rice had no flavor, just oxtail sauce poured over it. This didn’t feel like a real Jamaican restaurant at all it’s just for simps who leave the corporate world and Go down for lunch - you’re better off packing your own. Even the woman up front said, “It’s like Chipotle.” Honestly, that says it all because I thought I was at JRK! =/ P.S Sloppy work putting my food in the bag btw smh There was another woman who experiencing the same as me and we talked in the parking lot it’s ridiculous.

We had such an amazing experience at Jrk Restaurant! From the moment we walked in, Samantha, the host, went above and beyond to accommodate our large party of a dozen people. She was warm, organized, and made sure everything flowed smoothly, which made our lunch stress-free and enjoyable. The food was fantastic with so much variety, there truly was something for everyone at the table. As a vegan, I was especially impressed with the delicious options available for me, and my non vegan family were just as happy with their meals. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Between the incredible hospitality from Samantha and the diverse, flavorful menu, Jrk! has definitely become one of my favorite spots in Miami. Highly recommend!

Google
I visited here back in the end of August with my 3 cousins. We are from NY and was there in Miami visiting before our cruise. All of the food was exceptional!! So flavorful and fresh!! Some of the best Caribbean food I've ever had including my time in Jamaica. We fell in love at every bite!! That jerk chicken Mac n cheese is a thing of beauty!!! The staff was super friendly and really treated us so nice. We talked about it during our whole cruise and wanted to go back after the cruise but was scared we wouldn't make our flight in time. Highly recommend trying everything like we did!! Lol You won't regret it!! Lots of food and reasonably priced. 💯💯💯💯

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised and proud. Authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, pleasant staff and clean dining areas. Jrk! Has gone a great job of presenting the Jamaican culture through food and decor with a slight twist and modernized approach.

Yelp
Great find in Miami Fantastic Caribbean food. Loved the Mac n Cheese Great service from Willie! Definitely a must visit for great tasty food!

Yelp
So i was leaving Miami and thought "i wonder if they have some good jamaican here?" And came across / discovered this gem. Kind of in the cut kinda place, but the inside was so nice! It caught me off guard in a good way and not to say i expected something shabby, it just was so bright and nice and new looking. But yea -- oxtails were well flavored and cooked. Very good! Rice was delish as well, cabbage was crunchy with peppers JUST LIKE I LIKE. My lady liked hers also so two thumbs up guys

Yelp
After returning my library books downtown I decided to walk over to Jrk and have some lunch. I walked in around 11:30 and it wasn't crowded at all. I decided to get the vegan bowl with rice and peas, broccoli, some sort of red cabbage, and the pineapple plantains. Every thing was delicious and tasted authenticity Jamaican for a "fast food" type of spot and that really impressed me. Now for the best part: if you decide to dine in your lead to this amazingly beautiful spot that apparently turns into speakeasy after hours. It was so nice to be able to eat my lunch here by the window and watch all of the downtown employees walk around on their lunch breaks. The service was wonderful. All of the staff were kind and prompt and helpful to me when I couldn't decide what to order. If you are craving a tasty Jamaican meal without breaking the bank you should definitely give Jrk a try! PS: the virgin piña colada I ordered after my meal was the real star of the show and it needs its own separate review--it was DELICIOUS

Yelp
Stopped before my flight and it was so worth it. It's a really cute spot. We were greeted when we walked in. i was iffy about the food being made already but they did not disappoint. You are able to try what you would like. You can order a bowl or wrap. My favorite was the curry chicken, jerk chicken, fried rice with jerk sauce, pineapple plantain, cabbage and jerk mac & cheese. The customer service was great. Also I could here the music and vibes before walking in. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Usually to get good Jamaican food I have to go to Fort Lauderdale or Miami Gardens so its refreshing to get such great Jamaican food in downtown Miami. I also love the service, usallly they say the ruder the service for Jamican food the better the food, however at Jrk its not the case...they are kind and the food still is fireee
google avatar

Yelp
Had their jerk chicken bowls bogo (Uber eats) and very good. The jerk chicken has flavor. They're busy w/ take out orders so customer service is not their thing but realizing it has become faint in the F & B industry.

Yelp
I eat here at least once a week! I love this place. Between the kind staff, large portions, unique flavors and fast service, I can't decide what I love most about this place. When it comes to the food I highly recommend the peas and rice for your base and jerk chicken for your protein. Huge insider tip, ask for some Oxtail gravy on top of your rice for a huge burst of rich flavor. The restaurant is a fast-casual style where you go down the line and choose what your stomach calls for. The line gets pretty long during she weekday lunch rush but don't worry they work fast to keep it moving. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to grab lunch in all of Miami. Can't say enough great things.

Yelp
The first bite alone is everything. I Hadn't really found spots I LOVED in Miami - tried this & this one is it! The price is fair & the amount of food is love. The flavor of every bite has me doing the happy dance. I love this place! Now every time I'm in Miami - this is what I ask for. The servers are so happy and helpful ! They could be JRKs and I'd still come back

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch, the food was over all good. Samantha who works there provided great customer service us as well.

Yelp
Jrk in Miami offered mouth-watering dishes, such as their curry chicken with rice and peas, along with a side salad. After a night of dancing, JrK is the perfect place to grab a meal. The take-out area was clean and welcoming, with menus and displays of the dishes customers could purchase. The staff was patient and accommodating to customers who preferred vegetables or had food allergies.

Yelp
So far I've had the Jerk chicken bowl and it was so good that I had it two days in a row. It took everything in me not to order it the Thursday back to back. The jerk is spicy so let this be your warning but it's that good spicy that makes you keep eating it until you're stuffed. The bowl was so filling that I was able to eat it for lunch and dinner. Make sure you get the jerk ranch! Thank me later. At this point I have it at least once a week. I haven't been to the actual restaurant, I've only ordered it delivery so not sure about the ambiance. But I will visit soon

Yelp
My first stop while visiting in Miami & this place did not disappoint! I tried the jerk fried rice & peas & rice with jerk chicken & plantains. Service was very friendly & professional. Great vibe inside.

Yelp
I'm so glad I came downtown and it was also nice to run into this place. The food looks good. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. I met the owner and he was very nice too. love it

Kenneth R.

Yelp
Rasssssss! Top tier Jamaican food! It looked like one of the owners came from the back to serve me in a timely manner. They had classic reggae songs playing to set the mood and the overall restaurant was super clean. This place was amazing! It's literally chipotle style Jamaican food. I bought 2 bowls with the rice and beans, cabbage, and oxtails. They were generous with the portions too so you know that's always a plus! Ended up getting a few Jamaican patties on the side as well, everything was A1

Yelp
A few days ago, we stopped by Jrk for lunch. Unfortunately this visit was different from the others and I wanted to mention our experience. Management has decided to raise prices on some things and charge for extra sauce and water. There is one tiny sauce cup that comes with the meal but if you want a couple of other flavors they charge you for them. Those cups are half filled in a tiny cup and don't go far. They were $1.×× extra. I was thirsty and asked for a refill of my existing cup but they wanted to charge a $1 for the refill of tap water or I could buy a bottle of water for $5.95! Really? Then to add insult to injury, when we were paying our bill at the counter, the female cashier offered the lady in front of us a complimentary slice of banana bread to go. So when it was our turn, we inquired nicely about a complimentary piece of banana bread. The lady got upset and rude about it. My daughter reminded her she gave away a piece to the other customer, then the cashier kind of shoved it over to us with an angry expression.. She was definitely having a bad day. Unbelievable! We tasted it at home ...it was bitter with no banana taste whatsoever! One bite apiece and it went into the garbage can. We will not be returning to this location. They food there is good but the service has changed.
google avatar

Yelp
Small place with a lot of taste. This place always hits the spot! There's definitely a lunchtime rush, but they work quickly. You can also order on uber eats and pick up to avoid the line

Grace K.

Yelp
The restaurants is combined eating and bar at night. You can pick rice, vegetables and meat onto the plate and then you take your purchased meal to the bar section to dine in. The Jerk chicken is legit and it is chopped into tiny pieces. This is great for those who dont like to get their hands dirty. I also had the Chicken curry with curry sauce poured over rice and beans. This was also delicious. I would come again for sure as the price was reasonable too. I almost forgot to mention the beef patty. This was better than most places as the curst was perfect and the filling was not too runny and not too dry. We had seconds.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
Nice staff. Maybe things a generally not as good as they used to be. I won't be going back.

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Holy. Fucking. Shit. I found Jrk! through the app TooGoodToGo that works at eliminating food waste by having restaurants who choose to participate give their end of day food at a discounted rate. It's always a surprise because no restaurant can predict what they'll have left over end of day. I definitely did not expect to get the jerk chicken on a bed of rice with sweet corn and pineapples. The chicken was buttery soft, SO easy to chew. The spice was PERFECT. I inhaled the food. I didn't take a proper picture because I was so excited. 1000/10. Will be returning THIS WEEK.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
Think of this as the concept of Chipotle but with Jamaican/Caribbean food! Awesome build your own bowl options with vegetarian and pescatarian diets in mind too. I loved the peas and rice, the yucca, and the jerk chicken. The mango salsa is a must too. You've gotta get the beef patty! Go check out the seating in the back. The area is so cool and vibey!
google avatar

Ericka G.

Yelp
Spot is definitely happening. Walking in is a sophisticated funk of retro chic. The cocktails are all carefully crafted with cool names or stick to your favorite spirits and keep it simple with a rum and coke, or Hennessey on the rocks etc. it's all here. The head bop is real as every tune spilled was a classic and made our crew dance all night. Hungry? Well check the menu kicking Jamaican flavors like a pattie or jerk wings just to name a couple. Kitchen is open till 1am, get your grub on. Dance floor is where your standing and everyone is grown and on such a friendly vine everyone there is your new dance partner. Now the biggest OMG moment was the epic Talib Kwali deejaying! WHAT!!! Yes, he was there. He's still on the all love v8bes and is still real hip hop. This place is ALL that and then some! Don't believe me...go check it out yourself and see the line continue gathering. One Love!
google avatar

V M.

Yelp
Hopefully this was just a bad day. This was my first impression and I'm so underwhelmed with my uber eats delivery order. Some of the rice was so hard, definitely undercooked. I couldn't enjoy that as much as I wanted to but I did like the flavor. The patties filling is on the mushy side, not what I'm used to when it comes to freshly made but I would buy it again if they were just set out. The star of the show was definitely the jerk chicken and plantains, both delicious and full of flavor. Next time I'll try this in person.
google avatar

Ric L.

Yelp
Our party of 10 arrived shortly before the 11am opening to celebrate our coworker's County service award. Samantha was kind enough to allow us inside to escape the heat. And then, when we went to order, we found out County employees receive a ten percent discount! The food was excellent for everyone but I'm certain the service we received beforehand enhanced the flavor even further!

Yelp
Food and ambiance are amazing ! Love the concept for Caribbean food . The jerk chicken was delicious and the rice and peas was tasty

Yelp
The service and food was amazing! We had the jerk skewers, chicken patties, and the coconut rice with peas. Everything was a hit 10 out of 10.

Yelp
Amazing Caribbean food. It was my first time trying it and it definitely helped with my hangover. Will be there again soon

Yelp
I Found a cockroach in my food leaving me disgusted & mortified ! This is unacceptable not to mention unsanitary !! It's a shame that this establishment didn't take the proper steps to ensure the health & safety of their customers Never again !

Yelp
We've heard a lot of great things about this place so my fiancé and I got take out. They mainly do takeout/delivery, but there a few seats at bar to eat. My fiancé ordered their jasmine and cilantro rice base with BBQ chicken and jerked corn with BBQ sauce on the side. I was told they usually have brown stew chicken but did not today so I ordered their "seasonal" protein which was brown stew pepper steak, with rice and peas, stewed veggies, pineapple mango salsa and rude boy scotch bonnet sauce on the side. I loved that the sweetness of the salsa complimented the savory stewed steak We ordered the Mac and Cheese as a side which was hearty and had a little kick to it. Also got a beef patty for tomorrow morning. For the price point, it's worth every dollar! The service was quick and the food was quite good for being a mainly takeout spot.

Yelp
I love this place I have been addicted for the past month I don't know when the addiction is going to stop the food is just amazing addicting flavors so delicious it is pretty SPICEY I will say that but I love the spice very good I love jrk! The service is good the line moves fast if there is one.

Yelp
Joe Rain, Willy, and the owner really took care of us. best place to eat downtown. I will be back.

Yelp
I was wanting to try Jrk! for a while but live a bit far. So worth the trip, I had the vegan jerk which is super rare in a Jamaican restaurant. Normally, you would just get vegetables and that's it. Wow. I went with a friend that was as impressed as I was. Loved the rice and peas. They have a nice selection and the portion sizes can range from enough to large. I wish they had home made iced tea but that wasn't an option. So basically a bowl place that you can modify according to your taste. Not too spicy but very flavourful, I really would recommend that you stop by. Service was speedy and super efficient. They have a small dining room toward the back that is also another restaurant after 4pm. Parking is street only and can be an issue during high traffic times. Really happy....
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
The jerk fried rice with Jerk chicken and vegetables is delicious . The food is hot and perfect portion. The best jerk chicken ever
google avatar

Kadeem S.

Yelp
We ate on the 'speakeasy' side Mangrove. The food was immaculate! As a Jamaican I consider myself a tough Caribbean food critic and I would go again and recommend it a friend. The drinks were delicious but balanced in flavor. The food was not too spicy, and festival was a little softer than im accustomed to but i still enjoyed it, the curry oxtail was my personal stand out dish. The service was good, they checked on us the right amount. The aesthetic was a nice dimly lit lounge feel. Nice for a romantic evening.
google avatar

BK W.

Yelp
I've been wanting to go to the location in aventura and was very happy they opened in downtown miami. Parking on the street is limited but there are a bunch of lots nearby. If you live in the brickell/downtown area you could easily take metro mover to government center and walk. We got the jerk chicken, curry chicken and jerk Mac n cheese. All of the food was delicious and you get a good sized portion. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh. I tried the rude boy sauce which was amazing. I like spicy food myself and didn't think it was too spicy. The rice n peas were tasty compared to other Jamaican places we have been too. Really liked the plaintains because of the pineapple taste they have compared to most other Latin restaurants. Lastly, the jerk max n cheese. It was cheesy and had that jerk chicken tase. Overall, all of the food was very good and was priced reasonably. If you want juices or coffee you can also get to too. The interior space was nicely done and they have a large dining area for you to sit at. When you first walk in it's very similar looking to a chipotle where you pick your rice, then protein and then remaining sides and pay at the end. The owner and all of the staff were very friendly when we first walked which is typical of a Jamaican restaurant. Overall, this is a great spot when you're looking for good Jamaican food. I will be coming back here again

Yelp
Had a chance to visit while I was home for Thanksgiving break. I was able to try the curry, chicken, rice, cabbage, corn, & pineapple banjo salsa. I was very pleased with my meal and the portion sizes.

Yelp
This place is phenomenal! The best lunch I have had in a really long time! The spices on the jerk chicken blew my mind. It was pure heaven. The plantains were perfect in every way.... Slightly caramelized on the outside, a bit sweet, with warm spices to complement. The environment was also exceptional. The well trained staff and the beautiful decor made me feel so welcome. It was a pleasure to dine here. I hope you will go check them out very soon!
google avatar

Ada K.

Yelp
Had food at Mangrove right next door and it was excellent. Picked up food from here and it is much cheaper. If you want to sit for drinks and dinner Mangrove would be it. Just note it's obviously a lot pricier. But this place is excellent and the portions are good.

Yelp
I went back to Jrk on April 17th for lunch. This time the line was nearly out the door. The lady preparing the food moved quickly;however, the cashier was a bit slow. The dining area still looks nice and people were dining in but I had my food to go. The oxtails were really good and I love that they give plenty of food especially for the price.
google avatar

Britt J. R.

Yelp
The food is fresh and reasonably priced. The workers are friendly and professional. They give you enough that you can share one plate and have plenty to eat.

Yelp
Excellent food. Love the rice plantains veggies shrimp. Great atmosphere too. Happy place.

Yelp
Ordered through Uber eats for dinner and I got the jerk chicken bowl with plantains, jerk fried rice, and corn with the rude boy sauce & a side of the tropics sauce. The portion was great, plenty of chicken, very flavorful, and the perfect amount of spice! The fried rice didn't really seem fried to me, but maybe because I'm from Chicago. The tropics sauce also wasn't very good in my opinion and didn't have any spice like their website said. Overall, I'd definitely go again for dine-in next time I'm in Miami!
google avatar

Stefany D.

Yelp
I went to Jrk today solely because I had a craving for Jamaican patties. I love them, but don't eat them very often. I got a beef patty and a jerk chicken patty. They were delicious! The crust was perfect, airy and flaky. These can get a little messy to eat, but boy are they yummy! My favorite one was the jerk chicken. I will def be back to get more of these and try their bowls as well. Also they are pretty big in size and they are priced well!

Yelp
The food here is amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough. The owner is a native of Jamaica. My date who was born in Jamaica agreed this was the best most authentic Jamaican food she's had in the states.

Yelp
We had a really good experience here. It's a little confusing because they're also using the Mangrove brand but Jrk is on the side of the building. It's an intimate space that seats ~30 people. The menu is slim but that's not a bad thing. We had patties, both chicken and beef, and they tasted really good. Also, jerk wings, jerk mac & cheese, rice and peas and festival. Everything tasted good. The Mac & cheese had jerk chicken inside and was a healthy portion. The wings were baked and had great flavor. The festival was hot and fresh. Definitely looking forward to returning. I also used the inKind app for a discount. Parking is a hassle downtown, however there is a public garage two blocks away.
