JS Chen's DimSum & BBQ

Dim Sum was either excellent and worthy of its price, or horrible and extremely over priced. Sui Mai was huge and tasty when compared to other Dim Sum joints. Fried Shrimp Dumpling were the same. Very good flavor. Unfortunately, the Black Bean Spare Ribs were not worthy and disappointing. The dish had five small pieces of pork. The remainder of the dish was misleading with numerous pieces of tarot root. This was a not the bite I needed. The price of dish of starch was a slap in my face. My son had beef crispy noodles. There was a generous portion of beef but the simply vegetable of baby boy chow was disappointing too. I had wonton soup. The wontons were good. But, the broth and noodles were bland. I normally love wonton broth. Sorry, but this could very easily been water. The services was very good. The waitress could fo enough for us. She was perfect. The atmosphere was a normal old family business. No bells or whistles. Alot of this and that laying out for customers to see. We will return for Dim Sum. Why doesn't the DFW area have a true Dim Sum restaurant? If you know one please let me know.

Very few things went well or were ok. Jasmine tea was served piping hot and that started off our meal well. But things fell down after that. We ordered dim sum but everything seemed to be delayed and lots of angry conversations of staff with other customers put us on alert that things were not going smoothly inside The dim sum that was served was just luke warm and quality of dishes were not good. Portions too were not great . The XLB was served very very late and that too was not made well. Ambience was dull , sleepy and cold everywhere. Tables and condiment trays were unclean and all that made us decide not to return

I’m very disappointed after my last few visits. On an earlier visit, the roast duck was undercooked and still had blood. To be fair, the staff handled it politely and replaced the dish. However, on two separate occasions, I ordered Hainanese chicken rice, and both experiences were unacceptable. The first time, the rice served was just plain white rice. On a different visit, I ordered the same dish again, and this time the rice was fried rice, which is not Hainanese chicken rice at all. In both cases, the chicken itself was undercooked. I also ordered coconut pudding, but when I went to pick it up, I was told it was unavailable and it was substituted with something else because I ordered by Uber Eats and no other options. After giving this place three chances, I’ve completely lost confidence, especially regarding food quality and consistency. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.

The worst restaurant i ever have in Dallas, my first time to rate 1 star and I really can't finish the food, not worth to eat. The dimsum is really bad, shumai and hacao flavor are weird and not fresh, the fried dinsum is greasy. The only food I finished is porridge and steam rice roll. Don't come here for dimsum, you will spend a lot but get bad experience. They forgot my tea too. But the waitress aunt is friendly.

Here for dinner and service is OK. The dishes I got are not the way I expected, even though they have better ingredients. The authenticity is not there. The rice for Hainan Chicken should be cooked with chicken oil and stock. The congee should have fish fillet, peanuts, ginger.... The food is decent, just not what I expected.

This place is so cool. We came for my cousins wedding celebration and it was an amazing experience!!!! And the service- top notch. We accidentally left my purse with $500 cash inside. The employees found it, kept it safe and returned it with no issue! Definitely recommend this place for the food, experience and amazing staff!!!!

I always eat here and the duck never disappoints. The skin is crispy, the meat is juicy, and the flavor is always on point. The sauce pairs perfectly with it too. Definitely one of my favorite places to grab duck!

We have been here for 10+ years but today's experience is the worst and will never be back. Food quality has terribly declined, the "ha cao" shrimp dumpling was not fully cooked (shrimp was partially raw), the black bean sauce sea bass was extremely salty. Not sure if they have got a change of ownership recently but even the staff's customer service went also downhill and they all look new and not familiar.

Food is great. Authentic Chinese food. Recommend the crispy fried noodles with Cantonese sauce and the chicken wings

A very disappointing night for JS Chen! Being the beginning of Chinese New Year I placed an order for several items at 4:30 in the afternoon. We were expecting guests around 6:00PM. The food was promised for pick up at 5:15pm. Doesn't seem too difficult even for Chinese New Year. Well upon arrival my husband was informed that our order had been mistakenly given to another patron. Then a lady sitting near the entrance told my husband that she had been there an hour waiting for her order and was frustrated. He asked at the reception podium how long would it take to remake our order and was told 20 minutes. Sadly 30 minutes later was informed the order was lost in the system. Really? So I quickly ordered from another restaurant and my poor husband arrived back home well after our guests arrived. JS Chen has lost our business. The one star is more than it deserves.

Best peking duck for the price, great with pickled veggies and both pancakes and steam buns

WOW! I came for lunch on a Saturday, and it was incredible. The cart ladies came by often, there were a variety of different dishes, and the service was amazing. The staff were so nice and attentive. All the food looked way better than other dimsum places. I was so sad that I was too full to try them all. I highly recommend!

This place is exactly what you need when you want to get a quick dim sum fix. I'm not going to say it's amazing or someplace that will take your breath away. It's more like going to a El Fenix for Mexican food. Not the best but it's still going to satisfy. The service isn't very attentive but you can easily wave any person down and they will help you. I got the bbq combo and pork and shrimp shumai, Chinese broccoli, and some steam dumplings. I was needing a quick fix for my cravings and it hit the spot.

Had a craving for dimsum and I was staying in town for work at a local hotel. I wanted to try a different place and this was pretty close with decent ratings. Got my normal go to dishes to compare with other dimsum places I've been to and it was pretty much what you would expect. Flavors were familiar and tasty. Not bland or overly salty. Came out hot and fresh from the kitchen. Mind you I came in for dinner around 7:30pm so I'm pretty sure they steamed my order right when I placed them. Expect to wait a few and I was fine with that. Portions are okay and like I said the flavors were great but it felt a bit overpriced. I didn't order any exotic like sharks fin. Just the normal Shumai, beef spare ribs which was quite small for the price. You can see from the picture and that was only one piece less than what it was when it served. Overall, if you're craving and it's getting late, they're open until 9:30pm I believe.

I was craving dim sum while visiting family in Dallas, and this place was located only a few miles from our hotel. I wasn't sure how our experience was going to be with the reviews on Yelp being only a few stars, but I'm glad I stopped by the service was good considering it was pretty busy. The food was pretty good , and I didn't have to wait long to get the dishes I wanted.

Congee super thick but lacked flavor. Fried noodle had very few toppings and bitter mellon dish was small portion. Lacked overall value.

Outside of sf or nyc china town this is hands down the best dim sum. I would rate it one of the best in tx. Dim some was great. Order about six dishes and had no issues with any of it. Price and service was great. Bring two people or a large group. Weekends and holidays they have the carts on the floor.

Dear all customers, You all need to carefully check your check before handing over your credit card at the end of your meal! My friends went and they 'accidentally' overcharged them for a large amount of money. It was a party of 5 and they ordered tea for everyone. Instead of charging them the teas, they charged them the price of 5 orders of extra large dim sum! Scam alert everyone!! They said they will not return!! The owner didn't even apologize! Enough is enough already!! I don't want anyone to become victims again at this place!

Disappointed ! Our walnut shrimp come half dishes as you can see on the photo and is not even good. Eggplant come with just eggplant taste No Favorite like adding soy sauce. Pork chop taste okay is just more bone then meat. Charging $1.85 for bowl of rice? Really ?? When I got home I was feeling food sick ! This place need to do something !!!

I was craving for dim sum so gave it a try despite the warning from my family. I thought it shouldn't be as bad as they said. I SHOULD listen to my family. This place is overpriced. We went there around 1:15 pm and ordered several dim sums. Har Gow and Siu Mai were not fresh at all. Luo Bai Go (radish cake) was very cold and tasted very funny. Steam spare ribs were only very few and so TINY. Also, they put so many pieces of taro underneath the very few tiny ribs. Beef Tripe was way overpriced at $6.25 - more expensive than Har Gow!!! A lot of staff used to work there for years, but they finally left because the owners treated them so badly, so now the business has gone down A LOT. There is no way I will go back again. I did not even want to give a star, but it is required by the system.

I never like to give a negative review until I have been to a restaurant at least twice. My first visit was in 2017, on a Saturday, when the dim sum carts were in full service & it was delightful. My next visit was 2 weeks ago and then again tonight. FOOD: we ordered 5 dim sum plates. The first to be served was steamed Chinese vegetables, which came out cold. When we sent it back, the manager explained they were steamed, yes, we know and steam is HOT. She took it back and it came out warmer, but not hot. The second was scallops (bay) in ginger with peas and carrots. It was passable. Next, we had chicken feet. While this is an acquired taste, can be quite tasty, if done right. These were not, the breading was too heavy and became soggy & laden. Our last two included shrimp and pork dumplings, which were tasted, but put back on the plate. The last hope was the shrimp egg rolls. It was obvious the oil was old and left an off-putting taste on the wrappers. ATMOSPHERE: the restaurant is fine, family-atmosphere. What irks me is a bathroom that is half functional. Soap & towel dispensers didn't work, but a bottle of soap was there and a roll of towels. SERVICE: this has always been minimal effort service. All three times, we had to ask for water refills, our checks, all while management is at the front desk waiting for door dash pickups. TIP: if you go, avoid the dim sum menu and stick to the Americanized dishes.

Great service. Really good food. Finally got to try chicken feet and pork jowl. Really enjoyed the duck. The bbq was a little tough. Steamed pork and shrimp dumplings were good.

No need to make a reservation because they don't respect it. Got there at 7pm and left at 7:40. We got water and no service. Would not recommend this business because they don't serve, they starve.

Food options are not bad. There are plenty of choices. There are some winners and some losers. Overall, the quality is good. Service is little subpar due to lack of staff for the size of the dining floor. At busy time, is hard to get service such as drinks refill. When you order dishes from the menu, it may take a long time to make or it may not show up at all. The interior is nice and comfortable. Could use a little TLC on the high chairs. The legs were falling apart. Safety concern.

Been here twice now. I enjoy the dumplings and most of what I've tried here. Prices are reasonable as well. Although the pork belly was pretty cold when i chose it off the dim sum cart. I'll likely be back in the future

I went around 2PM - a little past regular lunch. The dishes seemed like they were steamed/kept warm for too long. Almost everything tasted overly mushy. For example, the har gow wrappers fell apart and the shrimp was tough. The staff were nice, but it didnt seem like they had a lot of options the particular time I went. I'd rather just buy frozen dim sum options in the Asian markets nearby and cook it yourself.

We came here for a Saturday early dinner; slow service, food took a long time 45 minutes or so to come out. They lack waitstaff, maybe 2 or 3 people in the restaurant, so it took forever for staff to come to take our order and longer for the food to come out. But the food was solid, flavorful and not as greasy comparing to the typical Chinese dim sum. Or we were just so hungry with the long wait that everything tasted good! Overall solid food but don't expect much service.

We were planning to eat dim sum inside the Chinese supermarket next to this restaurant but the one we were planning to go only received cash. We did not have cash so we could not eat there. After we left that Chinese supermarket, we saw JS Chen Dim Sum & BBQ so we decided to give it a try since they were also a Dim Sum restaurant. I knew the reviews were not very good but we decided not to trust the reviews this time but I regret it！ The food was actually not like BAD but it was really just a 2 stars level. Most of the dishes were just a little bit warm. The reason made me won't want to return is not just the taste. It was the price too. It was too expensive for the portion and the taste. Not worth it at all. I feel bad to give such a bad review the workers are pretty friendly though. If you are not familiar with authentic dim sum you might still like this place.

I've never been here but I always order from here on Uber Eats whenever I'm craving dim sum. They have reasonable pricing and decent portions. They even have dungeness crab and lobster you can get delivered to your house. My fav items are chicken feet, preserved egg and pork congee, and dungeness crab fried rice. Will definitely keep ordering from here when I'm craving dim sum or "house special" style crab or lobster.

Very genuine Cantonese dim sum. Very crowded and popular. The restaurant has an attitude because of it popularity. Food is good just has an attitude. Will not be my first choice

Some of the best Chinese food we had and the place is super cute to eat in at. The service wasn't fast but everyone was so nice. Left very full and very happy.

Came here on Sunday morning for dimsum with a group of 6 friends. Although the restaurant was very busy, it was easy to find a table for 6. I had never really had dimsum before, so it was a wonderful new experience. The food was fantastic. I especially loved the soup dumplings and bbq pork baos. The shrimp dumplings and chicken and scallion dumplings were delicious as well. We also ordered the Kung Pao chicken, fried rice, and sea bass in black bean sauce. All three of these dishes were delicious! The only thing I would recommend before going to this restaurant is to bring a friend who speaks Chinese if you don't do so yourself. Although it is possible to communicate with the staff if you don't know Chinese, many if the waiters don't speak English so it is easier if you have a Chinese speaker in your group!

Love coming here. The owner is always friendly and greets our family. They have a few seasonal dishes we tried tonight. Snow crab in fried rice and pork and fruit and dim sum. There's plenty of tables, and it gets crowded on the weekends when they cart the dimsum around. It's nice and quiet when there are not many people which makes a nice enjoyable evening.

Amazing!!!! Everything was fresh and hot. Service was so fast. Everyone who waited on us was so nice and sweet. It was our 1st time there, and they really went out their way to help us with the menu. The restaurant was relaxing and casual.

Love their amazing food. Come early and beat the rush. Good portions and amazing consistent taste. The chicken feet is a favorite. The fried noodles is super addicting :)

We came here once in a while for occasions. The foods are delicious and very authentic Chinese food. The price of foods are a little more expensive than other Chinese restaurants in the area. The waiters are friendly but too busy to meet our need due to not enough manpower to serve all customers which is typical for Chinese restaurants. At time only two waiters to serve 13 tables (small & big tables). I deducted one point for slow service but I would recommend this restaurant for good delicious foods.

Food is always great. The dumplings are amazing and the sesame chicken and kung pao chicken is really good. Never had a bad meal at Chens

Didn't care a whole lot about the food. The fish tasted like poor tank water and it was fairly pricey

last two times I sent for Dim Sum... over 30 minutes the keep on pushing the cart away from my table.... verbally ordered food and nothing came. On my way out, the owner had the guts say what about the tip.... OMG ! I came back wrote $0, she says that's ok. Ya, it is okay, tips are for services for god sake !..... do your job.

I have been coming here for a while. But since they open after Covid-19. I had notice a few things. Besides the prices had gone up, customer service is getting worse and worse. Please , provide better customer service.

We came in bc another restaurant was closed & so glad we did! We WILL be back! The service was perfect! We were all stuffed! The last pic of breads were sweet! Unexpected but so yummy! Plus they have a delivery robot! I can't wait to try the Peking duck!

Thanks to Yelp we found this inconspicuous dim sum location. We made reservations but it was not needed. Not your typical dim sum spot with wheeled carts. You order off a menu. Dim sum locations are limited to a few items. The star of the show was the shrimp chow fun noodles. They had just enough chew and weren't stuck together. Great place for dim sum if you are in the area. Just don't expect a lot of dim sum choices.

We love the dim sum here. It's not super busy so we never have to wait. It's always fresh and delicious.

Yet to find good dim sum in Plano. Service was a snail pace, often needing to be reminded of our orders. Siu Mai, Har Gao, custard buns, BBQ Pork buns, and more - honestly more impressive how all of which was mediocre. Kirin Court is worth the drive.

I've been looking for a dim sum place a bit closer to me, as driving to garland or Richardson is a bit of a haul. When I got in and saw the dimsum push carts, I got excited! (Some places stopped doing that due to Covid). Unfortunately, the food was just mediocre. I came in around 11:30, and the place was quite busy. I wasn't offered tea, but it was promptly brought to me once I asked for it. Food review: Shrimp noodle- tastes okay, except the dough was a bit doughy (if that makes sense). Only in certain spots though, not the whole thing. Shrimp steamed dumpling- this was good. The shrimp to dough ratio was optimal. They do charge this as a larger portion. But, worth it in my opinion. Shrimp and pork dumpling- good, but nothing great. Again, the meat ratio is good. Shanghai dumpling- these were served on a wax paper instead of the typical aluminum foil. Gotta be careful: it'll stick and tear and the juices will flow out :( Other than that, the flavor was on point and good overall. It wasn't served with ginger, though. Which is what I'm use to. They had vinegar at the table. Chives and shrimp - again, good ratio. Lots of chives and good balance on shrimp. The dough was spotty again, though. Unevenly cooked. Too doughy at spots. Tripe- probably the most vanilla tripe I've had at a dimsum place. It wasn't bad, but it also didn't hit the spot. Also not cooked with ginger or scallions like I typically get. Maybe that's the difference. Overall- food wasn't bad. Some inconsistencies, which is a bit confusing since they're cooked together. But, nothing is pulling me back here. If I'm really craving dim sum, I'd rather make the trip to garland/Richardson. Oh well. The search continues!!

This had been our go to for dim sum. It's close to home and the crowds aren't as bad as some of the other places. The restaurant is pretty big with multiple seating sections. There's typically not a long wait for cart service but there has been once or twice where the carts have gotten overwhelmed so the service is slower. The wait staff is usually plentiful and attentive. However, don't be afraid to make eye contact and wave someone down if you need something. They have a smaller dim sum menu thats served during off peak dim sum times. One of the things I know they don't have during off peak times are shrimp fun rolls and egg custards because those are my kids' favorite dishes and we've tried to order them.

My wife and I were looking for any good dim sum in the area. We were recommended to come here. The food was okay, we ordered the chicken feet, which tasted as expected, Cha-Siu rice roll, which was good but it was drowning is soy sauce, sliced fish congee, which was thick and a few slices of fish, but I think it was too salty and there need to be added green onions which they only topped with parsley, the deep fried Savory dumpling was a bit too vinegary, and we also had the steamed sticky rice with minced pork. The rice was okay but the Chinese sausage and pork meat tasted old and a bit dried out. Maybe it would be better to come on the weekends.

I'm reviewing strictly the dim sum as that's what I had. We were looking for a new dim sum place as we've been going to the same one for quite some time despite it being just okay (but still one of the better ones in DFW). JS is comparable to the other. For some of the dishes, I'd say JS served the better ones. For example, their shrimp noodle rolls (fun chern) and siu mai had a better flavor and no aftertaste. Not much of a wait either. I think this place might be our new dim sum spot.

We were looking to try some new dim sum joints, and knew we would be looking for an evening visit. Given how far we are from Plano in Fort Worth, we had to do some planning. JS Chen showed up several times in some big lists, so I chose the restaurant for all of us. Let's just say, the drive was entirely worth it. Located near Mitsuwa marketplace in Plano, the restaurant is relatively quiet in the evenings, which is much preferred during the pandemic. The place is nice and clean, but expect very straightforward service. In terms of drinks, the beer is cheap ($4-5), and I would avoid the house wine...I'm sure the bottles are probably better, but you are better served with wine or a lovely hot tea. We ordered four dim sum choices, including soup dumplings, har gow, fried shrimp dumplings and shumai. These come out as soon as they are cooked, so they are incredibly hot and so fresh. The har gow and shrimp dumplings were delicious, and so were the shumai (although those arrived at the end of the meal). The soup dumplings were good, but I would've liked more soup in them. We also ordered salted fish fried rice, half roast duck, garlic eggplant and beef flat noodles. Yes, I know we overordered, but none of us ate anything all day...the good thing is, we ended up with a LOT for leftovers. The rice was delicious although not enough of a salted fish taste. The roast duck was also good, but the skin could be a bit crispier...still, lovely meat and a good quality dish. The eggplant may have been one of my faves, with a nice flavor that was sweet and savory at the same time. The beef flat noodles were a little one-note for me, so I wouldn't order that again. Given how large the menu is, and that they have cart-style dim sum in the mornings/afternoons on weekends, I will absolutely be back.

Despite the overall rating, I liked JS Chen, and my positive experience may have been because we arrived when they opened 10:30 am on Saturday. Barely any patrons there. Fresh food. Socially distanced tables. What I loved ranked from best to least: * Baked Pork Buns: Oh, wow. They put some glaze over it, and the BBQ inside tasted so delicious. (Doing the 'hmm, hmmm face right now.) A must get. * Taro Root Dumplings: Crunchy, err, stuff, on the outside and a nice filling of taro and ground pork on the inside. I thought they fried these perfectly. *Shrimp Noodle Rolls: Shrimps wrapped in rice noodle sheets with soy sauce. Yes. One of my favorites. * Tofu Skin Roll: So savory, meaty, yet delicate. I could eat three of these. * Pork Siu Mai: Meaty, fresh, and not overly steamed. Nothing special about them, but nothing to complain about either. * Shrimp Dumplings: Similar to the pork siu mai. * Steamed Soup Dumplings: Probably my least favorite. They had them on mini trays, which stuck to the dumpling and ripped open when you tried to eat them. * Turnip Cake: Pretty bland, although I am not the biggest fan of this dish. Not dim sum, but I also tried their lobster noodle, and I loved it. Sure, it'll hit your wallet hard (whatever the market price, at the time of this review mine was $33), but I thought they did an excellent job preparing it. Other things to note: - Attentive and fast service (we received food within a minute of sitting down) - Similar prices for dim sum when compared to other restaurants in the area - Clean and socially distanced tables - Compared to the other dim sum spots I've visit, this one ranked near the top, surprisingly.

Went there for the first time yesterday. the food was good but it wasn't any different from other dim sum places. The service was good but nothing to rave about. My only 2 complaints is that when we were sitting in a booth, my mom was sitting on the sofa, and the sofa was torn which made her really uncomfortable. The other problem is that there was no A. C. and we were all sweating...

This is the BEST Chinese restaurant in all of North Texas without a doubt. The owners are the most friendly and comforting people on the planet. I highly recommend anyone to give them a call, order on Door Dash or Uber Eats and try them. They're on takeout only now but I'm sure with the community's help, it can open back up to seating soon!

I've been here before and enjoyed a great dim sum lunch. So, it pains me to write this review. My family and I went for a late Christmas lunch around 2pm. They had perhaps 3 large tables of 10 people and us 3. There was 1 waitress for all of these customers. She needed help. We got some dim sum before we got our drinks. I had to ask for our drinks. She was apologetic but definitely overwhelmed. The BBQ bao buns were outstanding. The half duck was very good...tender and juicy. The siew mai was fresh and tasty as well.

We ordered several dishes and one came out cold! When i told the manager they were cold she got defensive and said they are suppose to be cold. The menu item was "steamed vegetables", last time i checked steamed meant hot. The chicken feet were so heavy breaded and soaked in sauce you couldn't eat it them. The garlic ginger scallops were ok. I had a tiny amount to eat which was very noticeable when i asked for the check not the server or the manager asked if everything was ok, offer to take the cold vegetables off the check but instead asked if i wanted to take that nasty food home! Just took the plates and walked off! Last, only half the menu had prices and the check had no final prices so no telling what your being charged for.

I have no idea how effective that is, but they must improve their service. Recently, two of my buddies and I visited this place. We couldn't wait to check out this place. It didn't take very long to wait. Our server welcomed us after we were seated, offered us each a drink of water, introduced himself, and gave us a few minutes to peruse the menu. We were prepared to place our drink and food orders when a few minutes passed and our server was nowhere to be seen. To place our order, I had to flag down a new waitress. Our order was taken by a pleasant and accommodating server. But that was also his last appearance for us. The cuisine was decent. Nothing remarkable. If a friend wanted to test the restaurant out, I probably wouldn't go back.

Average quality, steep prices compared to competition. Probably 15% - 20% more expensive. Good thing the dim sum dishes are rolled out in carts so they are mostly available soon as the patrons are seated. Front door is super heavy; they even put up a sign to let people know, and yet never feel compelled to get it fixed. If you are low on blood sugar prior to eating at this place, you may need a full tug-o-war team to gain entry.
