The best and freshest Chinese food I've had from all over SoCal. This is the closest I've had to NY Chinese food since I moved to LA!!! Everything is made fresh and the flavors are crazy good! Jessica was really amazing and took great care of us. It is very clean and welcoming. This will be my go to spot from now on! It doesn't matter what you get, it is going to taste amazing!

Humble & very clean restaurant. So pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and service! This is the best Chinese food I have found in pasadena and I will continue to come back! Food 10/10 - great menu, verity of protein choices and vegetarian options too. Service 10/10 - polite, friendly, and easy going staff make the dining experience feel easy. Food is served surprisingly quickly. Ambiance 10/10 - quiet, spacious, never crowded.

Returned to J's Chinese Cuisine because we were craving it. Especially the sizzling beef rice that is mixed table-side and the special chicken dish with tons of sizzle and crunchy goodness! We also had the scrambled eggs with prawns - the eggs were creamy goodness and the prawns were hefty! We left stuffed. Milk tea was also delicious. Food- 10/10 Service-10/10 Ambience-9/10

Decided to try this on a New Year's whim as we were craving Chinese. Carried out, it was all I expected and now we have a new place, close to home that we can frequent when the urge hits! Lovely place, order was ready when we arrived to pick up, reasonably priced, large portions and very yummy! Well done.....

The place is located at a corner mini mall off Los Robles and Orange Grove Blvd. There is little parking in front so you have to enter the driveway off Los Robles to parking lot and then go down a ramp to the orange Grove side to finally get to the restaurants entrance. The place is small with a few tables inside- better to take out or order delivery. I ordered online and was given a 30 min completion time, when I arrived the order was ready. The pork fried rice was fluffy and full of flavor, the chow fun was good and the chicken was fried to perfection, when topped with the sweet and sour sauce was the perfect bite. This was the first time I have tried the food it was made fresh and full of flavor. The only thing I would change is the size of the vegetables in the sweet and sour sauce, they need to be cut smaller to make it easier to eat with the fried meat. This place it a definite must!

Their Chinese food is bombbb with great flavors. We got the mapo tofu, orange chicken, and Kung Fu Fish. All were solid dishes and not super spicy. I do wish we could customize the spice levels as I typically prefer my food more on a mild to medium spice.

This is where you want to eat, trust me. I stopped by Christmas Day for our traditional Xmas dinner - the place was packed but ended up being worth the wait. Delicious flavors and friendly staff. You can taste the quality of the food - not greedy at all.

Been hearing about the Chong Qi Chicken (think of popcorn chicken but w tien tsin chiles & sichuan peppercorn) at J's Chinese Cuisine. Got there before dinner rush. The entree serving was huge!! There was plenty left over. I love the sensation that the sichuan peppers (zesty and extremely numbing) & tien tsin chiles (spicy & burning) give, along w the hint of garlic and other spices. It was deliciously fire!! Only thing that hinders me from enjoying this fully was that the chicken is made with dark meat chicken thighs. Other than that it was still good and I did enjoy it. Girls at the counter were very friendly. Inside was clean, and parking... not sure if there's a back lot for parking since I found a spot on the street, right in front. Chong Qi Chicken is so delicious and if you have not tried it yet, please do!! It's pleasantly spicy and numbing!! I love it!!

My family and I went to Americas Got Talent and this Chinese restaurant was perfect and only 6mins away. Parking was easy they had their own little parking garage and easy access to the restaurant. The service was amazing our waitress was on it and took our order and gave us great service. The owner was so sweet she took the time to check on us and had Greg convos with her she was so awesome! The ambiance was very nice and quiet this is a great restaurant to go to if you're looking for good authentic Chinese food. The owner was telling me how she makes sure everything she makes their dishes with is quality food. You can tell even the orange chicken was very good and made with real chicken breast. Everything was very flavorful and soooo good! Our boys loved everything and my husband too. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are wanting Asian food and you're in the Pasadena area!

Our first time here, didn't realize how close this is to my work! Delicious tasting food, great customer service. Hubby loved the spicy green beans! We'll definitely be back!

Food was delicious with large portions!!! Schezuan-style popcorn chicken was authentically tasty, walnut prawns were so crispy and deep fried well, and fried rice was great! Friendly service. Would highly recommend!!

The meats were very high quality. The sesame chicken was all white meat. The beef was so tender. The sesame chicken and Mongolian beef were favorites. We prefer the fried rice from Eggroll Express. Portions were smaller for similar prices at Eggroll Express but we would return to J's.

Amazing food, amazing service. I have yet to have anything here that isn't delicious, and our server is always super kind and personable. Absolutely love this place and highly recommend!

Best egg rolls around. They're large and filled will veggies instead of noodles and thick rice paper. The few dishes I've had dishes are pretty good, but could use a little more seasoning.

I'm sorry, but I have to say this. When this transitioned from the old Chinese restaurant (Ming's) in this location to J's, everything tasted so much better. You can tell from the original reviews back in 2023 when J's opened they had consistently good food and a significant improvement on the previous restaurant; however, that's no longer the case. I'm not sure if the original J's owner who turned this place around sold it or the kitchen staff changed, but the food is no longer as good. This is disappointing because I really wanted to support this place. Everything tastes different slightly, and not in a good way. As if they were given the recipes from the prior management/owner/staff, but can't make it as well anymore. I get a stomach ache now regardless of what I order, so I'm done trying because I'm currently in pain, again. New items keep getting added to the menu, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I rarely find that restaurants with such a large menu do a great job making everything with high quality and consistency. I prefer restaurants that keep a smaller menu they can execute perfectly every time. If the original menu items are of no interest anymore to management, then please just take them off the menu and convert this into the restaurant you prefer this to be now with a different name. The food is excellent every time we have been here. No mater what we order, it's always fresh, hot & delicious. The service is also extremely pleasant & nice. According to my Chinese friends everything is pretty authentic, reasonable prices and comparable to the best restaurants in San Gabriel & Alhambra.

The food was superb -- tomato-beef chow mein, seafood platter and eggplant were delicious. service was excellent. Price is very reasonable.

This place should have WAY more people in it on a Friday night, we were the only ones here! It's too good to be slow, it's solid and always delivers a great meal. Excellent Mapo and green beans, and friendly service. Ate a generous meal for two for about 30 bucks with leftovers to spare, so it's quite affordable too.

We older over the phone. The food was great and ready very quickly. The staff were nice when we came in to pick up the food. I'm excited to go back and try all the other options.

I really enjoy this restaurant for their food, their service, and their ambiance. I usually get one of their soups like Hot and Sour or Wonton. Something about it take me back to when I was younger and trying a Chinese restaurant for the first time. They also have some of my favorite dishes from more recent years like the Spicy Chicken dish. You can't go wrong with any of the old classics either. The dumplings are good too. Everyone is always friendly towards us and the service is attentive. I'd definitely recommend coming here on a lunch break or with your family for dinner.

My first time trying J's. The food was excellent (egg rolls, orange chicken, combination chow mein and broccoli beef). 5 stars for food. Taking one star off for the 15 minute wait at pick up past the time promised. Also, no fortune cookies? But maybe that's not a thing here.

This is a selfish post. I sometimes don't want to review hidden-gem restaurants that I love because I don't want them to become over crowded, but this place needs your business. It's sincerely the best Chinese Restaurant in Pasadena imo. It'd be such a shame if it closed. What they lack in atmosphere they make up for in yummy, freshly prepared food. The first time I came here, I knew the moment they brought my cucumber salad out that this place was different. It's was all freshly chopped, garlic as well. When the Kung Pao Chicken came it was over. I love this place. Please come discover it and give it business, so I can keep coming here as well.

Had the Walnut Shrimp and loved it. I like the atmosphere of this place. Fortunately, it's very close to my home so will probably be going back quite often.

Yummy local Chinese restaurant! Just had a great dinner from J's after having to deal with my indecisive self for an hour lol. I placed a phone order; I got the orange chicken and a side of steamed rice. The lady on the phone was very kind and quick when taking my order, they said about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. It took me about 3 min to get here and I went inside right away to pay. The restaurant was very clean and the lighting is bright in there. I think it looked very nice! The lady who helped me at the counter was very kind and told me my food would be ready momentarily. I sat and after about 3 min she brought it out, all super quick! The food was steaming hot still when I arrived home! Portions are amazing, I had enough leftover for lunch at work tomorrow and I'm a hefty eater! The orange chicken was sooo good, I really enjoy the way they batter the chicken, different from other places. The rice was soft, fluffy, and sticky; the perfect steamed rice! Highly recommend for some quick delicious Chinese food!

I'm so happy that I came across this Gem I live around the corner and didn't know I have such a Good Chinese restaurant nearby Super clean, a lot of tables and friendly personnel. I ordered wonton soup that comes with vegetables, chicken wonton and shrimp And it was amazing super tasty and delicious. I also ordered the lunch special $13.75 And you chose a meat and white rice and a big egg roll I was so impressed of the Portion It was so big and so delicious. I ordered everything to go!! So good next time we will come and eat here..

Authentic, excellent Chinese food. We tried several dishes, and the standout was the Sichuan pickled fish--bright, spicy, perfectly tender. Service was fast and friendly. As a nearby neighbor, I'll be ordering delivery often.

My boyfriend and I ordered picked up some dinner during our move. J's is easily accessible via walking and has street parking in front of it. We split the egg rolls, which were perfectly crunchy and filled with vegetables and glass noodles. I loved the chicken chow fun- it was enough for lunch the next day! My boyfriend enjoyed the fried rice and how much meat was spread throughout the dish.

I had the BEST Chinese food in a while! The ingredient are fresh, their meats (beef, seafood, barbecue pork, chicken, amazingly tasty, I love their dumplings juicy and delicious! They make them here... true flavors. What I love the most about this nice restaurant is that I taste freshness in their dishes, it's not overwhelm with artificial ingredients, if you like to eat authentic Chinese food, visit this restaurant, it has a calm atmosphere, very clean, and they provide excellent service. Oh, and their dishes look just like the pictures in their website! How about that! Enjoy it! And YES! I think this is THE BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT IN PASADENA!

Very good neighborhood restaurant. String beans and hot chicken are outstanding but make sure to oder "little spicy" if you can't take the heat. I ordered medium spicy and my mouth was on fire. Will go back to try their appetizers and rice * noodle dishes.

Our new go to Chinese spot! This restaurant has everything I've been looking for - an extensive menu, affordable pricing, and generous portions. It's also spotless and customer service is excellent. Lots of take out orders here but I like to dine in too! Chong Qi Fried Chicken is a stand out dish - super crispy, juicy, and the chilis are mouth-numbing (in the best way possible!). I also love the Walnut Prawns. We will be back to try to rest of the menu. Huge plus: there is covered parking in the back (enter from Los Robles). Enjoy!!!

I love finding new places through Yelp and find that star score & reviews are pretty right on. This restaurant scores 5 stars and having stopped there tonight I can see why. Food was delicious and warrants the 5 stars. Met the young owner Jessica who is very sweet and gracious. Mongolian beef, sesame chicken and other dishes were excellent. We'll be going back for sure

This is the perfect spot for family style Chinese food. Portions are big enough to share and try a little of everything. I personally loved the sesame chicken and the cucumber salad. The house special chow mein was also good with all three shrimp, chicken and beef. The staff was friendly, quick and attentive. Super clean and big inside. Nice little hidden gem in Pasadena. Worth eating there!

We had a delightful time at J's Chinese cuisine! Such friendly service. And the restaurant is bright, clean and extremely cheerful. We were especially impressed with the garlic mixed vegetables, of all things: a beautiful, large , perfectly cooked, colorful heap of bok choy, broccoli, carrots, cabbage and snow peas in a light, garlicky sauce- delicious! The shrimp n the shrimp fried rice were large and succulent and our crab ragoon and green onion pancake appetizers were a great starters. All that for under $50 bucks! Our server was mentioning how slow business is these days since the fires :-(. Go check out J's Chinese Cuisine either in person or order take away; you won't be sorry!

Our family has been coming to J's for a year or more, and it's consistently the best Chinese restaurant in Pasadena. This is a legit family business with real home cooking (no joke, the mom is making the dumplings in the kitchen). Try the spicy cabbage, the Mongolian chicken, the stir fried eggplant, the egg flower soup - you can't go wrong. And they are so nice. They do a lot of take out, but if you dine in, the service is great. I could go on. It's a special place. I eat out plenty, and I can't think of another restaurant I can truly say that about.

The food was delicious especially the spicy eggplants and the price is reasonable. Parking is covered behind the restaurant. The staff is attentive. We'll definitely return!

3.6 stars for J's. The food overall is tasty. We really like their garlic green beans, walnut shrimp, salt and pepper fish filets and the Chongqing fried chicken. I would pass on the orange chicken and eggplant because they are a bit too basic and too saucy for my liking. Portions aren't too big so order more if you're hungry. Just be aware that the wait for dine-in can be a bit long. Perhaps they need to hire more cooks in the back to keep up with their takeout and dine in orders so that dishes don't just come out one by one. Overall, a good option if you're craving Chinese food in Pasadena but don't want to drive to SGV.

It's been over a year since discovering this place, and we have not stopped ordering food to go. The owners are very professional and kind; ensuring you have the best experience. Our orders are always ready on the estimated time given over the phone and packaged so neatly and nicely that I hardly ever worry about items shifting in the bag. The quality of the food has always been exemplary. Never oily nor too salty. You can tell they always use quality ingredients. We also like that they've introduced other dishes than the usual Chinese fare so it encourages us to try other dishes on the menu. This place never disappoints and the food always hits the spot.

3.75 stars overall Very happy that this place serves Southern chinese, sichuanese food. Ecstatic to know that they serve my favorite chongqqing chicken dish. It is a classic! If you like spicy fried stir fry chicken, this is the dish for you! Got the eggplant stir fry which was very delicious but can be a meal on its own. If you're looking for more of a complimentary veggie dish to go along with your protein and rice then this is not it. I would recommend going with the leafy green vegetable instead for that. Also got the crispy salt and pepper fried shrimp and was not a fan of that dish. It was pretty plain. I like my shrimp well seasoned and spicy with shell & tail on. The breaded shrimp is not my style. The customer service can be better. It would be really helpful if they had a sign by the door that greeted diners & informed on whether to go to the counter and order then sit or to wait there until the hostess comes over or if it's self seating... Both times we came here, they never saw us at the door so they never came over to greet us. The counter is not close to the front door so we have to walk past diners and tables everytime to go over to the counter to get their attention which feels awkward... Would also be nice if they had a bell or ring at the door when folks walked in so that they can hear and see us when we come in without us having to walk over to get their attention. The ambiance is casual. Seems to have a diverse clientele due to the location of the area which is a good thing... when they do provide direct attention and service, it is sufficient. But they can still improve as I mentioned. Probably wouldn't come here to dine-in again but wouldn't mind this place for take out or pick up if I'm craving my fav dish... otherwise back to SGV for (relatively) better dine in experience and wine, etc.

Items Ordered: Hot Spicy Green Beans, Mapo Tofu (spicey), & Orange Chicken. This placed has been open for about 2 months & it was just after Thanksgiving so we didnt expect it to be poppin. The two servers that night were very nice and attentive (though it was just us at one point). Nonetheless, very nice people. Grew up in Alhambra my whole life so when I moved to Pasadena, I wanted to find a spot closer to us so we could get our chinese fix that comes by pretty often . This place is very clean & spacious so nothing like your typical Chinese restaurant, which was a nice change. Green Beans (spicy) was probably our favorite. We asked for mild so it wasnt as spicy. Their added pickle thing (forgot the name) was a good touch. Mapo Tofu (spicy), again asked for mild was a bit oily but also pretty good. The spice was a bit too much for me & imo used to mapo tofu with a bit of minced beef (but thats just a different style). Orange chicken was really good! The sauce & crunch made it. I know we all compare it to Panda, but its not the same as pandas . So you will get a bit different taste, but would def get again. Hope this place sticks around! Prices weren't too bad either.

Highly recommend this excellent Chinese restaurant!!! My wife and I take our daughter and friend for special occasions and we have never been disappointed! Food is consistently excellent, service is friendly and quick! Since we're semi regulars we always get a warm greeting from the owner! Portions are generous and delicious! Only a few weeks old and still in their soft opening, J's Chinese Cuisine is a true, authentic Chinese food gem. Mainly focusing right now on Szechuan, this truly turned out to be a tremendously tasty experience. The owner is incredibly friendly, as was the other waitress/server. And the owner's husband is the chef working the magic. I guess this was a fairly popular Chinese restaurant in northern Pasadena known as Ming's Tasty until about a month ago, when it was sold to the new owners. I really hope they do well, because this is one of those Szechuan restaurants you want to see succeed and flourish. Just for the record, there is free parking in a small parking garage in back of the corner building they are located in, as well as street parking. The place is not huge in size, but is decorated nicely and has two large tables for bigger parties. Most refreshing was that the owner and chef's wife was actually eager to discuss the food and what we thought of each dish, looking for any constructive criticism we could offer. We didn't have much to say. Right now, because it is a soft opening, the choices on the menu are limited, but they will be adding more and more dishes as business picks up and they get a sense of what locals like and don't like. I suggest you stop on the way in to look at the large menu picture on one of the windows, because there were many dishes listed on it that were not on the menu handed out. However, if you ask, they will take requests or make dishes they are prepared to make but haven't listed yet. For instance, we got the Farmer's Style Pork (belly), which is not on the menu yet. We've had this dish at many places around the SGV, and to be honest we wish the dish was made with something other than pork belly because pork belly is so fatty. However, every place uses pork belly. The taste though was terrific, and it was one of the best versions I've had in the SGV. Also fantastic was the Chong Qi chicken. This dish is a must order, but if you order it at it's top spice level, prepare for spicy. We love spicy, so we were stoked. The taste is also much better than some places in the SGV and not greasy or oily at all for fried chicken. The kung pao prawns were great as far as taste and also had a kick, but it could be spicier. They said they would make it spicier for us next time. I also wish there were more peanuts and a few more shrimps. The dish didn't have enough shrimp and was over packed with large chunks of onions. Still, it tasted great. We were given some complimentary veggie spring rolls which were very good, the sweet and sour dipping sauce being a stand out. The only dish that maybe wasn't as up to par with the others was the pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings. They could use more filling. Also, the side that was not pan fried seemed oddly wet or oily in texture. And, while we were assured it was pork, it had that sort of bland flavor of chicken dumplings. The dipping sauce was a knock out, though. They're not bad at all, but could use some work. Anyway, obviously we really enjoyed the restaurant and our pleasurable time spent chatting with the owner/chef's wife and the other server, who is maybe family, as well. Please do yourself a favor and give them a try ASAP! You won't regret it!
