Google
They offer a variety of next-level Japanese desserts directly imported from Japan. The Hattendo cream bun is great with four different flavors: Custard, Matcha, Chocolate and Red Bean. (Unfortunately the red bean flavor is out of stock and might need much time to be imported from Japan) The chocolate one is my favorite with the soft bun outside and creamy and not-so-short chocolate cream inside. Somewhat like a chocolate ice-cream! Glad to find the chocolate chips here from Hokkaido!

Google
I needed a gift for a friend who used to live in Japan. The ladies working were very helpful. When I told them I was looking for a gift they recommended creating my own box of treats. I picked out nine pretty ones, then they boxed and gift wrapped everything. It made for a very pretty present.

Alex K.

Google
Lots of great Japanese treats that I used to have to drive up to Irvine (or fly to Japan) to get. Royce chocolate, fresh mochi daifuku, and now some pretty good matcha is served there.

Zachary C.

Google
The mochi here is awesome. I haven't had anything like it since I was last in Japan. The whole experience was actually like being in Japan, including the excellent service.

Joe S.

Google
Normally, I have to wait until Xmas to get Royce chocolates but now that the store offers year around I have access to really nice treats anytime. They make great presents. The mochi is also really tasty. High quality stuff!

Jason V.

Google
Their cream filled mochi is amazing. I had the matcha flavor, and the double mango flavor. Highly recommend! Most American made matcha sweets don’t have enough matcha, but these are imported from Japan and the matcha flavor is on point!

Google
I’ve been on a mochi kick and wanted to try a place I hadn’t yet. I was almost dissuaded to try by a review here about the customer service. I don’t speak Japanese so it had me worried I wouldn’t be able to order or be met with bad attitudes but I had a great experience! The women working were so friendly, kind and helpful! The mochi was so so good! I’m definitely planning on going back for more soon and hoping the experience is just as good.

Great staff! Love the matcha drinks.

Yelp
This is a great spot to pick up your favorite Japanese mochi sweets. Inside of Mitsuwa. They come frozen but melt pretty quickly so you can enjoy in no time. Lots of yummy options. And if you're gifting they have special boxes you can purchase for an additional charge.

Yelp
I checked out the reviews and photos for this place as I didn't know about this place but then I learned that this is a Japanese mochi shop and was very much looking forward to visiting it. A well made mochi is the way to Vivian's heart haha! I grew up eating Taiwanese mochis and love this slightly sweet dessert from my childhood. This place carries so many flavors of well made mochis and if you like mochi, you're gonna love this spot! Not to be mistaken for mochi ice cream, the mochis they have are frozen but you defrost them and then they are like regular mochis and so delicious! I bought 2 Sakura mochi (my favorite flavor), 1 green tea and 1 sweet potato. I also bought a matcha cream bun too. This was fantastic, the cream inside is really smooth and the outside bun is super soft and slightly sweet. I don't really like sweet pastries and this made me want to eat more of them! They also have many cookie boxes available too and since the Lunar New Year is coming, I have also purchased some special edition 2026 Horse gift cookie boxes! Service was excellent here and reminded me of my time in Japan and Asia. I would gladly come back here anytime! I love their dessert items! Arigato!

Yelp
Love the variety of sweets offered. It is not often when you step into a store and they provide you with an international experience. It helped that I was looking for something specific. Chocolate bar, cookie, or both. Japan thrives on all things cute. And I loved seeing the enjoyable concoctions from the crepes, to mochi to unique candy wrappings including freshly made mochi that is meant to defrost over several hours then enjoy. The gift receiver was delighted and so was I! One thing that is hard to replicate is yummy popular cookies from Japan. My recipient kept that box near her, enjoying the love.

Yelp
Lmao I accidentally wrote this review for j sweets when I meant it for j crepes! Anyways this place is pretty cool. They have beautiful little gift baskets that are super expensive! All their stuff looks too pretty to be eaten! I got a custard pudding mochi for my husband. It comes frozen so you have to wait 15m for it to soften. Its ok. Not sweet at all and not very flavorful. It was 2.90 for a VERY small mochi, but everything else looks fabulous!

Yelp
J.sweets, located in Mitsuwa Market, is selling a variety of Japanese sweet treats. While some of the products can be commonly found at the other Asian markets, they do have a great collection of specialty items from Japan that can only be found here in San Diego. When you first enter into J.sweets, you'll encounter the Royce Chocolate counter. Royce Chocolate is something special. I first tried it in Las Vegas and was impressed with how melt in your mouth it is. It's creamy chocolate that is fresh and needs to be refrigerated. It lasts about a month depending on the batch. There are different varieties including whites, milks and darks. They also often have limited edition flavors like a Sakura. As you explore further, you can find Minamoto products and my favorite Yoku Mokus. There are a lot of great gift items to chose from. In the back, they have a section with cream filled mochi shipped from Japan. I tried a variety of flavors and thought they were very good. These are not like Bubbies mochi ice cream, but filled with a soft cream instead. The staff is very knowledgeable and eager to share about the incredible products they carry.

Yelp
We were trying to get some sushi from MItsuwa but it was all sold out. So we figured we would at least get our dessert inside. Went to J-Sweets and picked up a bunch of mochi. Mine were Raspberry mille-feuille, choco banana, and sweet potato I believe. I liked the sweet potato one the best out of the 3 but all of them were good. They are 3 dollars each, a reasonable price in this day and age. I don't particularly crave mochi so wouldn't come by just for this, but definitely would pick some up if in the area. BB loves mochi and she enjoyed them and would get them again as well.

Yelp
J Sweets is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace and has a variety of Japanese snacks and sweets! Prices will obviously be steeper than getting things straight from the source, but it's nice to have a local option when the cravings hit, or when looking for specific things to gift without having to fly all the way to Japan. I've already been back multiple times to pick up gifts for people. Staff is always super helpful and friendly, and willing to answer any questions I have. Overall, great spot to stock up on Japanese goodies for yourself or others! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
So many cute and delicious sweets to choose from! Staff are all so friendly and attentive as well

Yelp
SOPHISTICATED SWEETS - DESSERTS: delicious - PRICE: pricy - SERVICE: very attentive - AMBIANCE: small counter area Finally, upscale Japanese desserts. I tend to bypass shops outside in the lobby of a supermarket and have been missing out. J Sweets offers a lot of quality highend more expensive desserts from Japan. I left with more than I was expected. MOCHI CREAM ($2.90) - Raspberry mille-feuille. I picked this flavor because when it comes to mochi flavor I like berry flavors. There are instructions how to eat based on how soft you want it to get. My office is just over the overpass by the time I got to the office and settle back in this was ready to eat. This is one of the better mochi ice creams I've had, mochi has good flavor and very gooey soft, the ice cream doesn't taste old. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ROYCE BAR CHOCOLATE "PISTACHIO" ($15.99) - milk chocolate bars, filled with a mix of pistachios, dried cranberries, freeze-dried strawberries, cookie crunch, and almond puffs. GOODYBAG ROYCE ISHIGAKIJIMA NAMA CHOCOLATE "KOKUTOH" ($19.99 worth per box) - soft blocks of milk chocolate with Okinawa kokutoh sugar and COR COR Agricola, a rare rum from Okinawa, Japan. Contains liquor. Had to get this because it was the seasonal one. I have to give it up for Japanese chocolates... you can taste the quality. Rich in chocolateness but not the overkill sweetness like American chocolate. It was very delicate and melted on your palate - one to pieces was plenty enough to fulfill any sweet or chocolate cravings. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HATTENDO Cream Buns ($4.50 worth/each) - the buns were SO soft and pillow-y!!! It was like biting into clouds with a cool custardy middle. ALL were food but one ordered them by favorite. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Cream Bun Chocolate - favorite Cream Bun Matcha - second favorite Cream Bun Custard - third favorite Cream Bun Ogura - red bean paste. Forth favorite I can't wait to come back and try some other sweets at this store.

Yelp
As much as I love Japan, it's absolutely amazing that I can just drive up the road to get my favorite Japanese sweet treats. At first, I wasn't sure what all the hype was about with Royce chocolates (since I'm not a huge chocolate lover), but one bite and I was hooked. Their rich, dark chocolate truffles are irresistible so much so that it's probably for the best they require refrigeration, otherwise I'd never be able to bring them home for anyone else. The cream buns were another delightful surprise: the perfect balance of soft, chewy mochi and creamy filling. Fresh, they're completely different and absolutely unforgettable. Needless to say, my "quick trip" to the shop turned into me leaving with far more than I planned. What makes this place even more special is its location inside a shopping center with a Japanese grocery store and other unique shops. Parking can look busy, but there's a steady flow, so the wait isn't long. The staff make the experience unforgettable. The two women working during my visit divided the shop and explained each sweet and the region it came from, giving me a genuine taste of Japanese hospitality. Their attentiveness, paired with treats that aren't overly sweet but instead luxuriously rich, is why this place leaves such a lasting impression. I've already returned multiple times for gifts and for my own sweet tooth cravings. Truly a gem!

Yelp
I was excited to discover J Sweets when I went to the Mitsui marketplace in Kearny Mesa today. I bought six different types of mochi and I love all of them! My favorite is the black sesame but I love the mango and sweet potato mochi. They have eight locations and I've been to the one in San Jose as well! It's really delicious and healthy for dessert! I took mine to go and just put them in the freezer when I got home.

Yelp
Today, I got the ROYCE Nama Chocolate "Strawberry Champagne". The kind lady recommended it to me and told me she liked it--I thought why not get it! It was so delicious, soft, and smooth when I took a bite into it. J Sweets has this welcoming and homey feeling, especially with all the staff members being friendly and kind when it comes to assistance. Another seasonal ROYCE Nama Chocolate that's really good and would recommend is the "Roasted Sweet Potato". Besides the chocolate, they do have other sweets such as mochi and custard buns. They are all definitely worth its price!
google avatar

Carolyn F.

Yelp
TIP: The J Sweets is located inside the Japanese supermarket. It's pricey, but the quality is very good. You'll get a bit of an experience you might have in Japan. I'll be at higher prices. The mochi is very good quality and presented well for gifting. The service is four star. Not as over-the-top as you would find in Japan, but hey, this is America after all. I like the ambience of the shop. It's small but well presented items and gifts. If you want four star mochi, and a lot less money, head back out to the supermarket and check out the bins. Remember, you can store mochi in the freezer for future use so it's worth stocking up.

Yelp
Excellent dessert shop located inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace in San Diego, right off the 163. I stopped in after seeing a post about their fresh mochi. I love mochi and made it once or twice back home in Hawaii. I got a few flavors to try, and Yoyuri (I hope I spelled that correctly!) was really sweet and helpful. She explained that they are frozen, and you have to thaw them at room temp for about 15 minutes before eating them. They'll go bad after that. I got Blueberry Yoghurt, Peach Yoghurt, Double Mango, Apple Pie and Caramel Pudding. I loved them all, but Blueberry took the cake for me!! I'll be coming back for more mochi! I also got a box of cookies that were on clearance. I have yet to taste them, but I already know they're gonna be good! Can't wait to get more!

Yelp
I personally love mochi and I've been wanting to try this place since forever, I finally went today it is located inside the market but it's easy to find. I got sweet potato and green tea neither disappointed they were so yummy and fresh the flavors are so well pronounced and there is a perfect balance of sweet and nutty in both, my personal favorite was the sweet potato for its unique flavor profile and spot on flavor it had the right amount of sweet potato and cream. The green tea one should not be sold short though it was just as delicious perfect balance of bitter and sweet and it is very green tea forward which I love. If you haven't visited yet you definitely should they truly won't disappoint, I cannot wait to be back and try more!

Yelp
My husband loves Mochi and this place has some delicious ones. I was excited to try their Choco cream in different flavors. Their Strawberry shortcake delicious, the red bean one yummm. We got around 8 of them. They have different flavors to try. Totally worth!! My husband was excited.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed Japanese culture and cuisine, I've to Japan twice so far and I try a lot of food, cookies and many little treats in here, but those treats are not as authentic as these ones here in this store. Also not to mention people who serve here are very very polite and respectful, they will explain the difference between one product or another. Not to mention about the vibes here really takes me back in Japan I went recently in last April and last summer 2018. Overall I have very pleasant experience here and they also have drinks, that you can try with the reasonable prices, good to go here with friends and family.

Yelp
The store is amazingly stocked with the best of Japan! The sales associates are friendly and suggest the best stuff depending on your mood and tastes.

Yelp
Love their NAMA chocolate! Definitely try a a sample. I will be sure to return for some of the other bars I was looking at. The lady working there is so sweet!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try J Sweets and so my last grocery trip I had a treat myself moment and purchased a couple pieces of mochi. The sweets store is located right at the entrance of Mitsua and always a little tempting spot to to check before leaving. They have a lot of delicious pastries and chocolates from Japan so definitely have to splurge one day. I ended up getting 4 pieces of mochi - green tea, red sweet potato, Sakura and red bean. They're frozen so the drive home had them ready for consumption. One thing its so chewy and the cream is so light and not too sweet. The red sweet potato and Sakura were my favorite, subtle flavors nothing to empowering. So delicious, definitely want to try other flavors, the team here is super friendly and sweet so I would high suggest checking them out!

Yelp
This upscale Japanese confectioner has opened a store inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace in Kearny Mesa across from a crepe vendor. Various packages of sweets were on display, but the featured item was the fresh assortment of mochi cream. Twenty different flavors were arranged on two shelves in a display case. Prices ranged between $2 and $3 apiece. There were specific instructions on how to best eat and store the mochi cream. I chose the following four flavors for my order... * Caramel Pudding * Double Mango * Rum Raisin * Strawberry Shortcake What I noticed was how soft and smooth the mochi cream was compared to traditional mochi which is more chewy. The cream used to make the mochi did not make them overly sweet which was a good thing. The rum raisin was my favorite of the bunch as the rum flavor added a zing that the others didn't. Wafer cookies, butter cookies, cookies with white chocolate or milk chocolate, jellies, Royce' Chocolate, and matcha tea were some of the other high-end products you could purchase at J Sweets.

Yelp
J.Sweets is a chain that serves mochi and other sweets. They have locations in Costa Mesa, Irvine, Torrance, and more! The worker there stated they opened around early November (2023). It is located inside of Mitsuwa, near the entrance. It's a beautiful store with a wide selection of mochi and other sweets / desserts. I stopped by after shopping at Mitsuwa today. I didn't have a lot of time to look at everything they had, and the mochi really caught my eye, so that is what I ordered. I ordered one of each of the following: Apple Pie, Blueberry Yogurt, Caramel Macchiato, Azuki (Red Bean), Sakura (Cherry Blossom), and Strawberry Shortcake. All of the mochi was delicious! Everything tasted fresh and high quality. The apple pie mochi had apple and pie crust... basically tasted exactly like apple pie and the blueberry yogurt mochi had actually blueberry pieces inside! The employee said it was best to allow the mochi 10-15 minutes to sit before eating. He also told me that it should all be consumed in 24 hours and to refrigerate the mochi if not eating. Yiko Yiko is no longer the king. The mochi was so good... it was the best mochi I've ever had! I bought enough to share with the family. One drawback is that it is pricey. Each mochi was two dollars and change, and the total ended up being $15.00 for 6 pieces. It is actually cheaper than Yiko Yiko ($5 per piece) and the mochi is just as good, if not better. So basically, you almost get two pieces for the price of one, compared to Yiko Yiko and more choices of flavors. The place is clean, the store is brand new. Service is excellent, they are friendly and patient and will answer any questions you have. You can usually find parking in this shopping center. We are fans of their mochi and look forward to trying other flavors and other sweets. Give this place a try if you like mochi or other Japanese desserts. 5 / 5: Mochi 5 / 5: Service 5 / 5: Cleanliness 5 / 5: Overall

Yelp
The wife wants soup from SANTOUKA located inside the MITSUWA MARKET. But across where we were eating my wife noticed a new store. Went to stop by this store " J. SWEETS " Plenty of sweets already packed in Boxes most look like it's good for a gift. We just tried their Mochi since we already have a couple of desserts bought from the other stores. We bought MOCHI STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, RASPBERRY, and DOUBLE MANGO. We weren't able to eat them right away coz the lady said to wait 15 minutes coz they were still frozen. Tried them in after 15 minutes and so far all were good but the DOUBLE MANGO is our favorite and for $2.50 each not bad at all for a good Mochi and quality. But the rest in the store are almost all pricey . And theres a Crepe store that they are sharing the place so its sure going to be crowded when both place are busy .

Yelp
This is a small side shop in The Mitsuwa Japanese Market. They have some of the most delicious Moche I've ever had. The gooey soft outside, with the creamy, fruity, sweet inside... The textures are a combination of soft, creamy and crunchy. The crunchy comes from a thin caramelized sugar sliver laid in the middle... you really have to try this place out to fully understand. Service is very streamlined. If you've ever been to a sushi bar, then you'll love how easy it is to order. They have little slips of paper with the title of each flavor for sale. Mark your paper with the number of Moche you'd like, hand it over to the host/hostess, and then you're ready to pay. Each Moche is between $2-$3. They come to you frozen. This might be hard for some to understand. You see these delicious little things and then they hand you frozen rocks to thaw out... It's all part of it. I wait about 20 minutes, equivalent of my drive home, before I check on them. I like mine cold, so it's just as the Moche has thawed that I like to enjoy mine. Pro-tip: Don't get the gift box... unless you're getting them as a present. It's a beautiful box, but you're paying $$$ for it. Order yourself a dozen, but ask for them in a bag. Five stars for the BEST MOCHE EVER!

Yelp
Best place to get fancy Japanese desserts in San Diego. Wonderful ladies offering to help and gift wrap is beautiful. The experience is always pleasant.

Yelp
J sweets is a japanese confectionary store located at the entrance of Mitsuwa. there are a lot of packaged sweets you can buy at a hefty price for gifts. i came only for the mochi and they did not disappoint. they give it to you froze and instruct you to wait 20 minutes for it to defrost. they have so many flavors, you gotta try them all! each one is $2.60, which isn't bad but they are quite small. i got the mango, strawberry, black sesame, green tea, and sakura. the fruit flavors are all very fresh. i didn't enjoy the green tea one as it was very bitter. black sesame was my favorite. i will definitely be back to try more flavors! will update my review when i come back

Yelp
This little jewel, inside the Mitsuwa Market is a marvelous mix of magical edible works of art! Brilliant imports from Japan to delight the sweet tooth and tickle the heart! A knowledgeable staff blessed with a passion for their product and their store, they make even the most awkward of customers feel right at home.

Yelp
Ummm freaking heaven in your mouth!! The cream custard buns are phenomenally delicious. They melt in your mouth like butter and are light and fluffy. WOW! Love the service reminded me of being back in Japan. PLEASE do yourself a favor and have one when in San Diego!!! You won't be disappointed!!

Yelp
Located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, on the right side immediately past the front door. Parking lot can be hectic. Ordered 6 mochi creams. Strawberry shortcake (the cream inside was light and fluffy but resembled cool whip), red bean (creamy and sweet), double mango (similar to cream in the strawberry shortcake but with a mango hint with mango bits), caramel pudding (the pudding was delicious, reminded me of crème brûlée), honey cranberry (similar to strawberry shortcake but in my opinion a little better), and raspberry mille-feuille (like honey cranberry). The mochi tastes so fresh! They come a little frozen and you have to wait 15-20 mins before they reach the right temp to eat, delicious and fresh! Less than 3$ a piece
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
This mochi is tasty, though not as fresh as I'd like. The texture is similar to the mochi around mochi ice cream (a bit firm and chewy) with a fresh filling such as fruit or red bean with whipped cream. The treats are given to you frozen with the advice that you wait at least 10-15 minutes for them to thaw, keep them refrigerated otherwise, and consume within 24 hours. For $2.30 to $2.80 a piece, the mochi is great for a small sweet snack, but I wouldn't recommend stocking up. We tried the mango, red sweet potato, and choco banana. The sweet potato was my favorite as it was the most unique. The mango was very tasty but could've used more mango inside. The cocoa powder outside the choco banana overpowered the delicious fresh banana filling. I had hoped the mochi would be softer like fresh mochi, but the freezer storage leads it to be more firm. It's a nice small treat and there is a good variety of flavors. The store is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace on the far right once you enter.

Yelp
Came across this little shop when we were grocery shopping in Mitsuwa. Their desserts and snacks look like they are packaged yo be gifts. Behind the glass near the counter they do sell MochiCream. Near heard of it until I came across it here. There is no ice cream, instead the filling is a cream. My mom loves mochi and she was hesitant to buy any because of the price, but after trying one she kept saying the mochi was much better than other mochi desserts she has tried. I'm definitely going to bring her back! Women behind the counter was so nice. She packaged our mochi so elegantly though we were going to eat it as soon as they softened enough. No seating inside. You will have to take your desserts to-go.
google avatar

Nguyen T.

Yelp
Nice gift selection to choose from. We loved all the mochi. We also tried the Monte Blanc cheese tart and sweet potato. I would prefer the sweet potato. They have brands like Royce of course and Yoku Moku. I will have to try the Jelly set next time.
google avatar

Ariele L.

Yelp
I've been to another J sweets location and so I have my regular favorite options. The raspberry mille-feuille is my #1. Quality is the same as always- exceptional and perfect for bringing to dinner parties. They also label each one with is perfect when bringing to gatherings.
google avatar

Liz J.

Yelp
I've been to Mitsuwa numerous times but this was the first time I stopped by J. Sweets. We got the momowakahime (green peach) and benihougyoku (cherry). The green peach was $6.50 and the cherry one was $5.90. I wasn't a huge fan of the green peach, but I think that just might be my personal preference and not being used to green peach. I liked the cherry one a lot more. Both mochis were a bit on the sweet side, very soft, and fresh. Staff here is also very friendly and were there to help us if we had any questions. I'll come back to try their mochi creams next time since those looked pretty good. This is a great place to get gifts as well since they had lots of other sweets and the Royce chocolate (though more expensive than at the airport in Japan).
google avatar

Nah ..

Yelp
Best ice cream mochi in town. Do not buy the $40 surprise bag - it's full of stuff they couldn't sell.

Sarah E.

Yelp
The best sweets shop in San Diego. At least among my friends, we're all a bit exhausted with messy overly-sugary sweets. It's hard to find sweets with just the right amount of sugar and good presentation to boot. Anyone who's been to Japan and liked the sweets there may recognize what I'm talking about. That's why I was happy to discover J Sweets. I hope their success inspires other sweet shops.

Yelp
Finally I don't have to go to the Costa Mesa location anymore to pick up my Royce and Frozen Mochi dessert. I am so happy they open one in San Diego. Yummy and a guilty pleasure for my family. The Staff is great and the selection is on par from the other stores.

Kyla K.

Yelp
I should probably wait until I try more things before rating, but the mochi cream was just so good. I ordered white chocolate, double mango, strawberry cheesecake, and caramel pudding. I waited about 25 minutes before eating them and every single one was delicious. Can't wait to try all the flavors.
