Grab a few of your smartest friends for a trivia smackdown at this country bar & grill in Lombard!
My first experience at JT's was as a host for Sporcle, but since I was workin', I didn't order food or even a beer on that trip. A follow-up visit last night on 12/12/18 saw me flip the script with buddy Jason K and girlfriend Nichole C, as we competed for $$ off our bill.
Located on Roosevelt near I-355, this place really sells up the "saloon" ambiance with a pair of swinging wooden doors, similar to what you'd find in a Sergio Leone spaghetti western. There's a pool tables, darts, a jukebox LOADED with tones of twangy country songs and a centralized bar.
JT's has live music some nights, but the real fun gets going on Wednesdays beginning at 7pm. The crowd for trivia can definitely pack the place, to the point where it gets tough to hear what's being said over the mic (drunk townies don't help much with the noise level).
Over the course of 2+ hours, we pounded beer and ate various foodstuffs. Jason K's southwest burger ($11) came with bacon and BBQ sauce, opting for sides of coleslaw and tater tots (in lieu of chips, $3 extra). He gave it the thumbs-up.
The fried pickles (6 for $6) came with ranch, and despite being sort of pricey, the half dozen breaded spears were very good. Later on, we got an order of chips & salsa ($5) which were fairly standard. Nichole C thoroughly enjoyed their buffalo wings (10 for $12) with a side of ranch.
I hate messing around with chicken bones, so I chose a 1/2lb of their boneless wings ($10) in the tropical habanero variety. Even though the flavor was good, the heat was totally weaksauce. Blue cheese helped a little; some of the celery that accompanied it seemed well past its due date.

Apparently all it took was a few pints of beer to unlock our trivia team's full potential, since we began to dominate in Game 2. When it came down to the final question, I suggested a "smart wager" and wouldn't you know it, we finished in 2nd place, which nabbed us a $10 gift card! w00t!
Service started off fine and got progressively spottier as the night went on. Amy took pretty decent care of us and was able to sort out a minor snafu with running the gift card. We did get overcharged for a couple beers, though. Ah well.
* TL;DR *
It was refreshing being on the other side of the trivia host table for a change, and aided by the minds of a couple friends, "KIRBY'S REVENGE" took home the silver with a whopping 101 points. It was an *especially* sweet victory, since we were the smallest team by far. The table next to us began to brag that "look around y'all, d'ya really think you can win with only 3 people?" To that overcocky losing team, I proudly say S-U-C-K I-T.
They've got loads of daily features (1/2 price burgers on Tuesdays, 59¢ wings on Mondays, Fish Fry-Days, etc) in addition to a bunch of drink specials. The service might falter as the crowds get heavier, but the food is solid and the atmosphere is appropriately rowdy.
I'd definitely recommend JT's Porch Saloon for trivia nights. Other nights can be just dandy too, so stop in and see what's up!
