Jubala is hands down my favorite coffee shop for so many reasons. First, the quality of both the coffee and food are consistently excellent. The North Hills location of Jubala is the last to open, and is one of three. What is amazing about Jubala is that despite the fact that there are three locations, and that the first one was opened more than a decade ago, both food and coffee have continued to be remarkable. This is due to the owner's single minded dedication to the stores and its employees. During a time when restaurants are losing servers and continue to be short staffed, Jubala distinguishes itself in having retained its employees. The result is a well seasoned staff that feels a strong sense of ownership. The coffee bean they use is excellent, and the coffee is made well by those seasoned baristas. The bread for the sandwiches is made by Raleigh's Boulted bread, and the biscuits and waffles are made in-house. The ingredients for the whole menu are locally sourced and have been vetted repeated by the owner himself. Even the potato chips and/or salad that come with the sandwiches are excellent.
My favorite thing to order for breakfast is a biscuit with egg and country ham. These biscuits are not your classic southern biscuits, rather they're "drop" biscuits so they have more of a bread consistency. You can order the eggs however way you like them, but I prefer mine over easy so that when I take my first wonderful bite, the yoke runs through the biscuit. It's delicious.
For my coffee, I order a cappuccino which I almost never do in other coffee shops. For those of you cappuccino lovers out there, it's a struggle to find a coffee shop that delivers the correct ratio of coffee to milk. Many coffee shops will increase the size of your cappuccino order by adding milk but no extra shots of espresso, thereby diluting the cappuccino to something closer to a cafe au lait. I never have to worry about that at Jubala. My cappuccino is perfect every time.
If I'm not in the mood for a full heavy breakfast, I order the Belgian waffles. They are wonderful (sense a theme here?). You can order a plain waffle, or have things added to it such as Nutella, or apple compote, etc. Some of these additions are seasonal so don't be surprised if they disappear. You honestly can't go wrong whatever you choose.
For lunch, my favorite sandwich is the the turkey with Avocado. It's served warm with crispy bread, and just the right amount of condiments. Yummm!
Finally, it's worth mentioning that Jubala is locally owned and run. The owner grew up right here in Raleigh, and so any profits made from Jubala go right back into our local community rather than a corporate headquarter somewhere else.
