I dined at Jula's on the Potomac with a friend for the first time since the name changed. The restaurant is in a small office complex, so parking is not really a problem. In the evening and weekends, the cost is $5. The building entrance is ease to locate and upon arriving on the 4th floor, the front desk staff are inviting. With a reservation, we were seated quickly by a bay of windows overlooking the water and park.
Soon after being seated, we were greeted by our waiter, Sam; who was attentive and accommodating. We ordered beverages, made inquiries about the menu, and asked questions of the kitchen. Once that was taken care of, we both ordered Pepperoni Flatbread for an appetizer. I enjoyed the taste, but it was too small.
We placed our entrée orders, she jumbo crab cakes with roasted potatoes, and me creole shrimp. Both entrees were well seasoned, and prepared as requested. We enjoyed our meals. I ordered the unconventional carrot cake for us to share, when it arrived, I was immediately deflated. It was small cupcake size, smoothed with icing on an ice-cold saucer. It was not worth $12, I sent it back, and requested for it to be removed from the check.
We received the itemized check, after seeing the hot tea I ordered was $7, I was peeved. It was not how I wanted to end the evening. Despite the dessert and beverage incidents, I gave a 4- star rating.
