The 36 Best Restaurants in Lisbon, Portugal | Eater

"In a country known for sweets rich in egg yolks and sugar, Brazilian pastry chef Juliana Penteado dared to innovate. Her small, charming pastry shop on Calçada da Estrela seamlessly blends precise French patisserie techniques, local ingredients, and global flavors. Penteado, a judge on Masterchef Portugal, studied at Le Cordon Bleu and lived in Paris before deciding to open her own business in Lisbon. Using organic culinary essential oils, she crafts pineapple choux with kaffir lime, caramel millefeuille with tangerines, and raspberry cheesecake with verbena. Must-try dish: Penteado’s buttery cookies in flavors like lemongrass or tangerine, are perfect for pairing with coffee or tea. They are one of many reasons people line up outside her shop on weekends." - Rafael Tonon

Probably the best pastries I had in Lisbon!!! The balance between the flavours are very well thought out - if you feel like having a sugar rush, don’t bother because they are less sweet and much more delicate than they look and for me that’s a very good thing because they still taste delicious without relaying too much on the sugary side. Apart from that the place is gorgeous and the pastries are sublime. Top notch design all around.

i’m obsessed with desserts and always travel looking for iconic sweets, so i was very excited to try juliana penteado’s pastries. the shop is charming and the service was friendly. the desserts are beautiful and definitely instagram-worthy. however, the matcha and lime tart i had was disappointing. the ingredients and technique are clearly high quality, the tart shell was excellent but the flavor fell flat. everything tasted the same, and i could barely taste the lime. it felt like it lacked nuance and personality. i actually planned to try more, but after the first one, i didn’t feel like ordering another :((( ps: i decided to update this review because after receiving a reply saying there was no lime in the sweet, i went back and added one of the photos i took inside the store. i had actually returned specifically to take this photo, and it clearly shows that the sweet contained matcha, kiwi, lime, and ginger. despite all that, it tasted of absolutely nothing. i sincerely hope people are open to receiving constructive feedback and use it as an opportunity to improve.

It is simply THE best pastries I had. Everything it’s so good. The ingredients, the freshness, the mixing, even the little edible flowers. Excellent service and the prices were lower than I expected.

Gorgeous little hole-in-the-wall French pastry shop serving up delicious, essential oil-infused pastries! I happened upon Juliana Penteado after missing the door to The Folks, but it was such a happy little accident! Juliana Penteado makes the most gorgeous French pastries, all of which are infused with essential oils to give them a fun and unique flavor. She comes up with a new set of 5-10 little cakes / sandwich cookies each week, so the menu is constantly changing, seasonal, and fun! I tried out her coconut ginger guava macaron at her recommendation, and it was delightful! The pastry cream was rich and smooth, and it has a great hit of coconut flavor. It went wonderfully with the guava paste in the center, and she had a bit of a cookie crumble on the outside to give the whole pastry a bit more texture. It's a smidge pricey, but the unique flavor combos, friendly service, and cute space make it all worth it!

♥️♥️The cakes were delicious and beautifully packaged, but I was extremely disappointed when I arrived home and discovered a pear cake instead of the chocolate cake I had chosen. It was a regrettable confusion that greatly tarnished my experience. I would have appreciated better attention to detail! Dear Juliana, I just wanted to thank you for your kind offer to come and pick up the cake I wasn't able to enjoy. The cake I received was delicious, and I really enjoyed the warm atmosphere of your shop. Thank you again, and see you soon!
