"Julius’ Castle, a 1920s-era restaurant that closed in 2007, is set to reopen by the end of 2020. The restaurant has a remarkable history, having operated as a speakeasy and later hosting celebrities like Robert Redford, Cary Grant, and Sean Connery. It is a significant landmark in San Francisco, known for being the setting of many major life events. The reopening faced opposition from neighbors, but the project was eventually approved after a lawsuit was resolved. Current owner Paul Scott is in the process of finding someone to manage and help remodel the venue." - Eve Batey
Telegraph Hill Restaurant Julius’ Castle Defeats NIMBY Legal Challenge to Reopen - Eater SF
"The 1923-founded, now long-vacant SF restaurant Julius’ Castle can move forward after a judge threw out a legal challenge to the business. A group of neighbors concerned about noise and traffic launched the complaint after current owner Paul Scott received Planning Commission approval in 2017 to reopen the business, which he bought in 2012. It’s clearly been a long road, but “we’re very happy to have this chapter of the saga behind us,” Scott tells Eater SF. “Now we can finally get on selecting an operator and doing the final renovations to restore the Castle to its former glory.”" - Caleb Pershan
I was lucky enough to dine here while it was still open about 15 years ago, and it was a sight to be seen. Great tasting food, impeccable service, and immaculately clean inside and out with astounding views. This was my first fine dining experience and still remains one of the very best memories.
