Jumeirah Mina A'Salam at Madinat Jumeirah

"Set the scene for us. What's this place like? The Dubai insider’s hotel—cooler and more understated than most of its competitors. It’s contemporary and comfortable, but still has an old, authentically Arabic head on its shoulders. The pool is the lobby showstopper. The hotel stands at the gateway to the entire Madinat Jumeirah resort, where everything is linked by canals. So what is the story behind the hotel? With nine hotels within Dubai itself, Jumeirah is known for being a heavyweight on the city’s scene, the name behind many of its most well-respected restaurants and residences. Mina A’Salam itself opened in 2003, the first of three hotels in Jumeirah City, a 40-hectare project designed to look like a traditional Arabian hub, which also includes Dar Al Masyaf, a cluster of summerhouses that have been rented by Denzel Washington, Tom Cruise and Stranger Things’ David Harbour. Many a Dubai International Film Festival opening party has been held on Mina A’Salam’s private beach. The real reason we're here: The rooms. What are they like?Everything in the room is generally… big, which tends to leave you feeling rather petite and cozy. The double-window-fronted Arabian Rooms are showered in sunshine, with oversized wooden furniture and archways looping through them. The bed itself is vast—or rather, it’s actually two wide beds pushed together—plus there’s a small living space too. The tech is extremely simple to use, while the huge balcony has enough space for you to take tea and photographs in front of the Burj Al Arab (pictures of the tower can also be taken, Negroni in hand, from the hotel’s beautiful Bahri Bar). Oh, the bar! That brings us to our next questions—what are the dining options on the premises? You reach the extensive breakfast buffet via a short morning voyage along the canal, served on the sun deck of the smart Pai Thai restaurant. And every experienced bruncher in town knows that, come Friday, Mina A’Salam sets the bar. Our top pick for creative, modern grub is Folly by Nick & Scott, the latter a Gordon Ramsay protégé who worked at Claridge’s. With its tasting menus and organic and biodynamic wines, it is probably the city’s most forward-thinking restaurant. How do the staff treat you? While staff at other Dubai hotels can veer into bungling subservience, Mina A’Salam staff are accommodating and efficient – the beach crew always a wave away no matter what the temperature. Who else are you likely to see here?International and eclectic, with film stars, families, couples and the just-randomly-ended-up-in-Dubai. Visualize the tribe you’d find in an Emirates business lounge and you’re halfway there. What is the surrounding area like?Set in one of the city’s oldest, bougainvillea-framed-white-villa districts, Umm Suqeim, Mina A’Salam is the gateway to the mighty Madinat Jumeirah souk, with its canals and wind towers. To put it in Dubai context: When a long-term city resident stays at the Mina A’Salam, they cannot wait to tell people. You could have stayed at the Burj Al Arab, but that’s a little more… obvious. Are there any other facilities at the hotel worth checking out?The Talise Fitness Centre and Spa is enormous and incredibly slick, with all the very latest classes and kit. Guests of the Mina A’Salam can also attend sunset yoga sessions on the beach, which are rather special. It all sounds pretty great, but is there anything you'd change? The decor could be slightly more pared-back. Although, that said, that would then dilute some of what makes the Mina A'Salam, the Mina A'Salam. Wrap it up for us: What's your pitch for staying at this hotel? The Mina A’Salam is a lavish hotel in exactly the right location. Stay here and spend every day watching the sun sink behind the Burj Al Arab from your lounger on the city’s finest private beach." - Becky Lucas

Mina A'Salam | Best places to stay in Dubai

"Part of the extraordinary Madinat Jumeirah complex, this sumptuous hotel plays heavily on the Arabian theme – musicians play soothing classical Arabic music, rose petals float in a tile-filled fountain – but the effect is enchanting. The views from the balconies of the building’s grand exterior, modelled on old Arabian cities, are stunning at night. Lavish rooms are strewn with lanterns and arabesque patterns, and the choice of surrounding bars, restaurants and spa and beach facilities is staggering. There’s a new family swimming pool built into the beach so you can easily jump from sea to pool and vice versa. Guests also get free access to the Wild Wadi water park next door. " - Nicola Chilton

We are currently staying at Mina Al Salam. The hotel is absolutely stunning — the beach is fantastic and most of the staff we’ve met so far have been very friendly and helpful. I can definitely see why couples would love it here.||As a family though, we’re finding it less suitable. Our ocean view room is nice, but very small for two adults and a 3-year-old. On top of that, it’s right outside a restaurant, and even at 10:45pm the music is still blaring, making it really difficult for our son to sleep.||We booked half board, but most of the restaurants either require a supplement of 180–200 AED per person or aren’t child-friendly. That leaves the buffet as the only realistic choice, which feels limiting at a hotel of this standard.||We also had issues with the pool. At first we were directed to the wrong one and told we couldn’t use it. When we finally got to the right pool, there were no beds available, so we paid 300 AED for an A/C cabana. We expected better service given the extra cost, but even then we had to ask four times just to get water for our son, who was visibly upset in the heat.||On a positive note, Alysa from guest relations has been wonderful, very kind and proactive. She even sent a lovely gesture to our room after we raised our concerns. That said, upgrading to a bigger room would cost £5,000 for six nights, which just isn’t something we can justify.||Overall, while Mina Al Salam is a stunning property and couples will probably have an amazing time, for us as a family it hasn’t been the best fit and we’re left feeling a little disappointed.

It was the combination of several outstanding factors that made our stay so memorable: The People: The level of service was the best we have ever experienced. Every single staff member was attentive, warm, and went above and beyond. We must give a special mention to Ishmael, the valet manager, whose professionalism and genuine kindness in welcoming us back to the hotel each day truly stood out. The Unique Atmosphere: The resort itself is breathtaking. The ability to travel around on the complimentary Abra boats through the beautiful waterways was a magical and unforgettable experience for our entire family. The World-Class Amenities: The quality of the facilities was exceptional. The spectacular private beach, the incredible (and seemingly endless) breakfast buffet, and especially the perfectly cooled swimming pools which provided a wonderful escape from the heat, all contributed to a perfect holiday. It was the seamless combination of exceptional service, a unique environment, and luxurious comfort that made our experience a true 10/10.

My Family and I recently stayed here and this hotel is one of the best in the world. The staff, the service, the facilities, access to Wild Wadi, everything was fantastic. The hotel was always clean, and every area smelt amazing. We really enjoyed every moment. My favorite part however was the French toast. They served at breakfast everyday and I miss it terribly. Genuinely the best thing I've ever eaten. If you are visiting Dubai, you have to try this hotel.

We stayed 4 nights bed and breakfast in Aug. Would I stay here again 100% it has everything beach, pool, shops, bars, supermarket, restaurants all within a 2min walk. Our room had everything and more for a very comfortable stay with all amenities provided. Breakfast was exceptional and we ate early 8am ish as it did get very busy with families from 9.30am. |We used the hotel pool @Cala Vista which was fantastic plenty of towels, super comfy beds, water, fruit sticks and even a suntan lotion station. MUKTA and the team are a credit to this hotel working extremely hard in the extreme heat, well done boys you did an exceptional job keeping everyone happy, serving food and drinks from the restaurant, we appreciated your friendly, respectful hospitality, which made our stay complete.

A beautiful hotel with excellent facilities. We stayed in club room and enjoyed the quiet breakfast along with afternoon tea and canapés and drinks. The service at the pool and beach was great especially the cool bags with bottles of water which were provided.||Lots of restaurants around the hotel to choose from and a nice souk market.||The gym was well equipped and the sauna, steam and ice room a real bonus. Would highly recommend

Another excellent stay in a Jumeirah hotel, 16-19 August. It was a short stay during a business trip.|The room was very comfortable, clean. Housekeeping was attentive and checked regularly that I was happy. The reception staff were polite. The restaurants very nice. The breakfast choices can only be described as vast. There is also a very convenient gym and pool (j-club). Overall, excellent experience. I will be back. NP.

Wow what a hotel from arriving and being greeted by Benjamin who is a gentleman and made sure we were escorted to the club lounge straight away, we were greeted by Fadma i think her name was she made us feel so welcome got us some drinks while she checked us in and told us all|About the hotel and HB package. The club lounge is lovely and bright with a fab balcony with amazing view of the madinet & don’t miss the sunset in the evenings with the burj in the background and the staff go above and beyond. Our room wasn’t ready upon check in so we headed to cala vista to the pool and wow the loungers were so luxurious & the big cushions, Monju and Agassi looked after us so well and throughout our stay making sure we had water towels clean glasses I have to say Monju goes above and beyond for the guests he is an big assist to the hotel and never complains in the heat so a big well done to Monju 🎉🎉🎉 the rooms are so luxurious you don’t hear any noise having the buggy and abras to travel within the madinet is such a good plus. Overall I’d give the hotel location and room 515 10/10 also a big shout out to Fatima at the concierge desk who was so helpful in booking Restaurants etc and also she was amazing when my mum was sick and required a doctor she arranged it all. ||The only small complaint which isn’t with the hotel but with the Jumeirah group as we split our time between the Zabeel saray and Mina a Salam on this visit and we found the HB not to be as good as it was previously, there are a lot and I mean a lot of supplements now on top of what you have already paid. We all know Dubai is expensive but we visit because we love it and we normally book HB as we know we have it covered after this year is book B&B club lounge and go to the Resturants you want as we always had to pay more and never had a 3 course meal each. ||Top tip book a club room high floor for fab views and you won’t be disappointed ||But I’d definitely return to this hotel
