Jumeirah Mina A'Salam at Madinat Jumeirah

"Set the scene for us. What's this place like? The Dubai insider’s hotel—cooler and more understated than most of its competitors. It’s contemporary and comfortable, but still has an old, authentically Arabic head on its shoulders. The pool is the lobby showstopper. The hotel stands at the gateway to the entire Madinat Jumeirah resort, where everything is linked by canals. So what is the story behind the hotel? With nine hotels within Dubai itself, Jumeirah is known for being a heavyweight on the city’s scene, the name behind many of its most well-respected restaurants and residences. Mina A’Salam itself opened in 2003, the first of three hotels in Jumeirah City, a 40-hectare project designed to look like a traditional Arabian hub, which also includes Dar Al Masyaf, a cluster of summerhouses that have been rented by Denzel Washington, Tom Cruise and Stranger Things’ David Harbour. Many a Dubai International Film Festival opening party has been held on Mina A’Salam’s private beach. The real reason we're here: The rooms. What are they like?Everything in the room is generally… big, which tends to leave you feeling rather petite and cozy. The double-window-fronted Arabian Rooms are showered in sunshine, with oversized wooden furniture and archways looping through them. The bed itself is vast—or rather, it’s actually two wide beds pushed together—plus there’s a small living space too. The tech is extremely simple to use, while the huge balcony has enough space for you to take tea and photographs in front of the Burj Al Arab (pictures of the tower can also be taken, Negroni in hand, from the hotel’s beautiful Bahri Bar). Oh, the bar! That brings us to our next questions—what are the dining options on the premises? You reach the extensive breakfast buffet via a short morning voyage along the canal, served on the sun deck of the smart Pai Thai restaurant. And every experienced bruncher in town knows that, come Friday, Mina A’Salam sets the bar. Our top pick for creative, modern grub is Folly by Nick & Scott, the latter a Gordon Ramsay protégé who worked at Claridge’s. With its tasting menus and organic and biodynamic wines, it is probably the city’s most forward-thinking restaurant. How do the staff treat you? While staff at other Dubai hotels can veer into bungling subservience, Mina A’Salam staff are accommodating and efficient – the beach crew always a wave away no matter what the temperature. Who else are you likely to see here?International and eclectic, with film stars, families, couples and the just-randomly-ended-up-in-Dubai. Visualize the tribe you’d find in an Emirates business lounge and you’re halfway there. What is the surrounding area like?Set in one of the city’s oldest, bougainvillea-framed-white-villa districts, Umm Suqeim, Mina A’Salam is the gateway to the mighty Madinat Jumeirah souk, with its canals and wind towers. To put it in Dubai context: When a long-term city resident stays at the Mina A’Salam, they cannot wait to tell people. You could have stayed at the Burj Al Arab, but that’s a little more… obvious. Are there any other facilities at the hotel worth checking out?The Talise Fitness Centre and Spa is enormous and incredibly slick, with all the very latest classes and kit. Guests of the Mina A’Salam can also attend sunset yoga sessions on the beach, which are rather special. It all sounds pretty great, but is there anything you'd change? The decor could be slightly more pared-back. Although, that said, that would then dilute some of what makes the Mina A'Salam, the Mina A'Salam. Wrap it up for us: What's your pitch for staying at this hotel? The Mina A’Salam is a lavish hotel in exactly the right location. Stay here and spend every day watching the sun sink behind the Burj Al Arab from your lounger on the city’s finest private beach." - Becky Lucas

Fantastic hotel. Great views. Spacious room.|Has the potential to be 5 star. The room was huge, comfortable bed but the dressing table area and the wardrobe space were small, we had to live out of our cases -as there wasn’t room to store everything. Toiletries are replaced every day as is the drinking water in the room. Cala Vista pool was lovely, perhaps the hotel should consider making this an adults only pool. The staff there work there so is off. Amal lounge was excellent, the staff all really friendly and attentive. I would recommend upgrading to club room, breakfast and sundowners both excellent, afternoon tea was ok. The hotel is huge and there are still a lot of guests even in the heat of summer but I had an issue with the lobby area, we were constantly asked if we were guests and our room number requested. There is no familiarity except in the Amal lounge. We also celebrated our wedding anniversary and made the hotel aware of this during the booking but nothing was done in way of celebrating. Little touches and extras go along way.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The food was excellent and the staff friendly.|We used the Amal lounge which was great and the staff there very attentive and pleasant. At the pool Monju attended to us every day with others but he made us very welcome and is a great asset to the hotel. All the staff at the hotel were very nice and friendly and any complaint (one, only minor) was dealt with quickly. We used the very large beach only once but there is loads of room and plenty loungers available. We usually ended up in the bar which is really comfortable and again has very attentive and pleasant staff. We thought the whole holiday was so good we are organising a trip back and should be there next year. A great hotel with lovely staff even at the front desk where any advice asked was given. From the domestic staff to front desk, everyone was just so nice and looked as if they were pleased that we were enjoying our holiday. Thank you Mina A'Salam for giving us a great holiday. I could mention one otwo who were outstanding but the whole Amal Lounge staff and Pool and Bar staff were just so pleasant.

We chose to stay at Jumeirah Mina A’ Salam for a 3 day stopover. Being our first trip to Dubai we were not sure what to expect, however we were pleasantly surprised by our experience here and will certainly return. We had a Club Lounge access room and were very impressed with the friendly staff and efficient service we were fortunate enough to experience. Fatima and Leesa at breakfast and William and Bernard at the afternoon drinks were outstanding! We also indulged at the Amal Lounge with amazing service there too. In saving the best for last we were fortunate to meet our Concierge, Fatima. She was amazing with her knowledge and advice and a willingness to help us during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and everything came with a smile, we were so impressed. Thank you again to all at Jumeirah Mina A’ Salam for making our stay so enjoyable. We look forward to returning at a later date.

Our second visit to this hotel. The premises, location, service and staff are all fantastic. Food is great with lots of restaurants to choose from. Particularly liked the breakfast. Was a bit disappointing you now have to upgrade to use the Cala Vista pool but have to say Monju the attendant there looked after us so well once again. Towels, water and help with sunbeds with a big smile whilst working in the heat, great with our two sons. He was off one day during our stay, let’s just say there was a noticeable drop in service. That’s a credit to him, not a complaint to the hotel. Thanks Monju.

The room felt quite small for a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids), which made our stay a bit cramped. Navigating the long hallways was tiring, especially with young children. The breakfast was average—considering the price, I expected a better variety of options. The swimming pools were decent, and we appreciated having access to them. However, the lack of readily available buggies and the long waiting times for the abra (boat service) made getting around frustrating. On a positive note, the in-room treats were a nice touch—fresh fruits, dates, and plenty of bottled water were much appreciated. Still, overall, nothing stood out as exceptional, and the experience didn’t quite meet my expectations.

While the hotel itself is absolutely stunning — from the luxurious rooms to the world-class amenities and beautiful surroundings — I was extremely disappointed with the front desk staff at Mina A’Salam. Despite the high standards set by the rest of the hotel, the front desk was shockingly cold, unwelcoming, and lacked even the most basic sense of hospitality. I have traveled extensively, and I’ve never experienced such a lack of empathy and professionalism at a hotel of this caliber. Simple interactions felt transactional and dismissive, with no warmth or effort to make guests feel cared for. It was a disappointing contrast to the otherwise exceptional experience at the property. It’s a shame that such a beautiful hotel is represented so poorly at the front line. I truly hope management takes this seriously — because first impressions matter, and this one left a bad taste.

I had a wonderful experience at Jumeirah Mina A’Salam. The hotel is beautifully designed with stunning views, spacious rooms, and excellent service. The staff were welcoming, professional, and always ready to help. The beach, restaurants, and facilities are all world-class. Perfect place for a relaxing getaway in Dubai. Highly recommended!

It might have a five star badge at the front door, but my gosh standards have slipped and the new staff operate like cold machines. It’s almost like the Mina Salam is like the training centre for the Jameirah range of Hotels. It’s now become a hotel whereby, you check yourself in, use the facilities, pay your bill and checkout. As a family we have been visiting the Jameirah hotels on the Madinat for the last 10 years and always book direct. This year was the worst experience from the group I’ve ever had. The main thing was the frostiness/coldness of staff, normally, the staff are very engaging, willing to help, make you feel like “a guest”, make you and your family feel “welcome”. The attention to detail was lacking when they presented me with a cake on the wrong date and a card written by a 5 year old. Room - Very nice as expected. House keeping was on point and I give thanks and credit, where credit is due. Facilities - You’d expect two pools (at least they did the last time we were there) but you get one tiny pool which is over crowded and in the sand. You then have to get on a buggy each day to use one of the other pools on the complex?? What’s the point in making half the hotel pools exclusive when you have paying guests staying at the hotel? Are the paying guests not exclusive guests? Are those that visit year-on-year not valued enough to use the services of two pools?……It makes a difference to have a pool near the room as guests like to go up to the room if they forget something. Instead the paying guest has to catch a buggy, then walk 1/4 mile to get to the room (they only have one lift core). If I’d known it would be this much of an aggravation, I would have booked one of the other hotels with pool closer to the hotel room. They did try to make things better in the last two days and a real effort was noticed, the staff seemed more alert and ‘engaged’. They even got my birthday correct with a beautifully hand written card. Big shout out to Moshin and Lucky who made my day very special at breakfast and by the Al Qusar pool (even though I was staying at the mina). I did notice that 75% of guests were Russian. Maybe they only want Russian clients now? Maybe the Russian clients need not for a warm greeting or a genuine “how are you this morning?” After 10 years of being loyal to the Jumeirah brand, it looks like we’re going to have to look elsewhere for our Easter break as I) it's a shame that Jumeirah Hotel hospitality is no longer what it used to be, ii) neither do they value guests who book direct and visit year-on-year. ***despite Jamie commenting below. No one from the team reached out. LOOKS LIKE TALK IS CHEAP.
