This is one of those places where you’re like THANK GOD there’s good food out here! I ate here ages ago and recently came back during a trip to Yosemite. Salmon with veggies and quinoa was delicious, as was the berry pie for dessert. We were a large group and everyone loves their food - steak, half chicken plate, mac n cheese, etc. Definitely worth the drive from El Portal!

Google
Great place to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner in Midpines. We host a Airbnb nearby and recommend our guests to stop on the way out to the park or on the way back for a quick bite to eat. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options as well!

Google
Really tasty heart food! Really BIG portions, you can probably share most things! It’s all self service after you order, but they do a lot of meals so it works really well. Recommend the chocolate cream pie 🤎 They have a spa and sauna downstairs too for $20 per day, so make a day of it!

Parking is difficult, but the food is well worth it!! We went twice while staying in a nearby Airbnb cabin. The restaurant was only 4 minutes from us. We went with a big group for dinner. The menu is small so we tried several different entries. We started out with a broccoli soup which was fantastic, it really tasted like homemade. I had the steak with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. Other guests had the salmon, trout, one of the sandwiches, and ribs. We loved everything! As far as desert, we all shared the chocolate peanut butter pie which is probably the best I've ever tasted. We ended up going back the next morning for breakfast, just the two of us. I ordered the huevos rancheros, and my fiancée got the American breakfast, and we also ordered the French toast to share. Everything was phenomenal. We also ordered some dessert to go. Another slice of the chocolate peanut butter pie, of course. We also got the lemon cheesecake and the Triple Berry pie. The cheesecake was insanely delicious, but neither of us were crazy about the Triple Berry pie, I'm sure it's fantastic but it's really not our thing. It looked good though! The prices are reasonable and the portions are great. Definitely give this place a try!

Google
Oddly gourmet for the average sit-down price. Wife and I were recommended this café by a vendor in downtown Mariposa... had we known sooner - we'd have chosen this over Fredricks of Savourys the night prior, and ate there again the next day. Had a pastrami sandwich there, never tasted one like it. There mashed potatoes are magic. Presentation looks like a high-end restaurant. Tasted even better. Will be returning next time we're in town.

Google
The food was delicious! The burger was cooked perfectly, the minestrone soup was really good, and everything was fresh. They had gluten free bread for the burger, but you have to ask, it wasn't on the menu.

Google
Bombay sandwich was deliciously fresh!! and packed with flavor !! loved it. only two minus points - the place could be cleaner. and there were some annoying bees and mosquitos outside of the cafe....

Google
Amazing food!! So fresh and tasty and delicious! We stayed at another accommodation closer to Yosemite but after the horrendous experience we had eating there, we went to June Bug Cafe and was so relieved and thrilled that we came back the following night for dinner. Cute vibe and the restaurant, very nice staff and amazing food! Highly highly recommend, and totally worth the additional drive time :)

Yelp
Handicapped accomodations. Delicious menu, great Staff Good, easy parking. Fun, comfy envirment. Los of guests to talk to and games you can play. I love the room rhay extends to trees. I call it the bird nest room.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
3 stars for staff and food being good. -2 stars for hardly any parking, reservation system that is of no use as you just walk up to the counter to order. You get a number and get bring you your food. Staff was so kind and friendly. Accommodated my allergies as well. Menu changes by day it's very limited. I did not want such a large dinner at the high price. Glad there were some options to choose from though. Fish had some bones in it but it tasted good. Soup was good. Chocolate pie was just ok. Crust was good. This place had the most creepy Hills Have Eyes Texas chainsaw vibe. The alien ant head on the wall really was out of place for a family restaurant but fit this creep place vibe perfectly. I def will not return if I don't have to. No one would even know it's there unless it were for Yelp. It's not on a main road. Only ended up here due to Awhannee in Yosemite being under construction and not having a regular menu.

Janiah S.

Yelp
Classic breakfast was good! Oatmeal was good! Service was good! Loved the decor and lots of windows all around. Country charm inside. We bought some desserts to go and the carrot cake and the chocolate peanut butter pie are made in house and we're seriously the best I've ever had! Cannot wait to go back and try other homemade goodies!

Heba A.

Yelp
The food was good I had French toast and pancakes both were good i went around 7 so not so crowded the place is a bit into the woods so alittle hard to find. Overall a good experience.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and make sure I stop in at minimum for a dessert. This weekend, we camped in Briceberg and opted to go out as a celebratory we made it dinner. Boy, was I glad we did! They served a sirloin steak with cajon shrimp sauce. Once again, they did not disappoint! Absolutely define!

Mona A.

Yelp
Super cute spot! Absolutely loved driving the mini road to get here; the selections are small, but the food is good for the area! They make giant pots of coffee that is self serve. You order up at the front and they call you to pick up the order. The interior is cute, cabin and rustic charm. Parking is plenty up front! Driving to the location is good - one road, it's small so be careful! Will be back in the future if I am in the area

Alexa H.

Yelp
I honestly cannot say enough great things about this place. Everything from the food to the service to the rustic charm...this place has my heart. Their desserts are out of this world, and their entrees are both hearty and wholesome and definitely hit the spot after an active, long day out in Yosemite Park. I am so glad that this place exists and I make a point to come here every time I am in the area. Thank you June Bug Cafe!

Erica A.

Yelp
The food was really tasty, good size portions and affordable. I also got there early enough to order the to go lunch and didn't need to worry about eating in the village.

Daron C.

Yelp
Simply the best food not just in the valley but anywhere! Really delicious home cooked meals... The day we went they had ribs that were like a full rack for only $24. Enough for two or three people. Really tender really delicious every single meal here was awesome really friendly people too and a really cool vibe.... We would stay at the Yosemite bug resort again just for the food here! The food in the valley sucks!

Zohabe B.

Yelp
I stayed at the camp that this restaurant is located in and ate breakfast here everyday. It was always well made and had solid portions. The weekend special veggie omelette was very good. Besides that, the prices for dinner were very high, so I did not try it.

Julia B.

Yelp
Fantastic food in the middle of the woods. Limited but varied menu that changes daily, though we only had the pleasure of eating there once. Order at the counter in front of the kitchen and seat yourself, food is brought to you.

Nina D.

Yelp
The place is cozy and spacious and its fun to sit there The food is excellent. Both lunches we ordered were great.

Greg C.

Yelp
For a mountain town restaurant this place rocks. I had the salmon dinner and my son had the wagyu burger. Both were delicious. Ambience is what you'd expect for a mountain town eatery. Give it a try!

Frank S.

Yelp
Kind of a different place... cafeteria style? Food was really delicious... but the prices seemed a bit high for the type of atmosphere provided...

Monica H.

Yelp
Staff was really sweet & provided good recommendations. It wasn't really family style seating when we were there; mostly normal sized table with just a couple big ones. It was off-season so there were very few other patrons. It's kind of a fun lodgy vibe, & it would be really nice to sit outside in the summer. The food was mostly good. We had an eggplant dish & barbecue pork. Those were both really good. We had a side cup of soup, which was some sort of chili, & it wasn't so good - just tasted like they dumped the jar of chili powder in. Desserts sounded delicious, but we were too full. It's a fast-food service model - order at the counter & they call your # when it's ready. I don't love that for tourist prices, but we realized on the rest of our vacation that it's becoming the norm. Nobody can find enough staff!

Alice R.

Yelp
The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. We visit June Bug Cafe every time we're in the area. And we loved the choice reserved parking for "the elderly "!

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Hidden GEM!!! I hesitate to write this review because this will now become everyone's go to when visiting Yosemite. The food is unbelievably great and the setting is so rustic! I had the St Louis Ribs and my sons had the New York Steak. The meat was so tender and the ribs fell off of the bone. Everything was well cooked, flavorful and delicious. Don't forget to try the deserts, we had the apple and berry pies, a great way to round out the meal. This will definitely be the place to go when we visit Yosemite or anywhere close next time.

Joey B.

Yelp
Had dinner at June Bug Cafe tonight. Was a little hard to find - it's part of the Yosemite Bug Lodge and isn't right on the main roadway. You turn onto the road and it winds around a bit. Parking is limited. Order at the counter and take your tray with drinks/starters to your table. They bring the food out to you when ready. Had the New York Strip with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Asked for steak medium and it seemed as expected - juicy and with good flavor. Pricing is typical for what we've seen elsewhere. You bus the table yourself - take plates back up front to a window. Dining area includes inside and outside - rustic "camp" feel to it.

Caroline H.

Yelp
So I am sad I didn't get any photos of the food, but I just could not wait to eat. The food was absolute banging here. Perfectly cooked salmon. Solid American Breakfast, fresh ingredients. Attention to detail is apparent, my complements to the chefs and every lovely person that made it possible.

Jessie P.

Yelp
Stopped by June Bug Cafe after a day trip in Yosemite. This place is adorable. So comfy and clean. The cooks were busy and working hard. The food was all delicious. And for dessert some of the biggest cookies I have ever seen. I can't wait to stay here one day in their cute cabins. All in all an excellent experience.

Antonio D.

Yelp
June Big came well recommended. So while visiting Yosemite we went because it was very close to our rental. The sign is big and the place is easy to find. The parking lot is very small. June Bug is counter service- so we went to the counter and ordered our food and drinks. When the food was ready they brought it to our table. Everything was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We tried eating outside but there were too many yellow jackets. The interior is very eclectic. None of the chairs or tables match. The vibe struck me as very local even though it is located very close to a major tourist attraction. Pricing is reasonable California. So expect about $25 per person. But everything was freshly made. June Bug also sells bag lunches if you are headed into the park- we didn't get any but it seems like a good idea. An easy way to pack a lunch for your Yosemite adventure.

Lucy D.

Yelp
We visited June Bug Cafe on our trip to Yosemite last month. There was no parking on the lower levels so we had to park at hill top. A tedious hike, but beautiful sunset scenery. The cafe was bustling and lively when we arrived. Staff was very friendly. We ordered the steak dinner, breaded cod dinner and Tri Tip burger. Food portion was generous and everything was delicious.

Deb P.

Yelp
Can I give them 12 stars? The food is fresh, different and delicious. The menu changes with the season. I love the family style seating. You often get to make new friends and then exchange stories of the adventures in Yosemite. I've been going to the June Bug most every visit to the area and it is always a highlight. This visit I tried the wild boar. It came with lots of tasty sides and a delicious dessert of sticky toffee pudding. There were other choices but this was an epicurean delight. I'll be back.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
We are locals living in Ahwahnee and have seen this place on the way to Yosemite multiple times. We decided to stop for lunch and we were not disappointed! The portions are big so we had to take the rest of our sandwich's home but definitely didn't want to leave them behind. Best Philly Cheesesteak I have ever had! Yum!

Yelp
10/13/2021-10/15/2021 Recommend? Yes. I stayed at the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort for a few days and I was honestly nervous at what I would be eating. I knew it was going to be in the middle of almost no where so I was prepared to eat apples and bananas for my entire stay. I was very much pleasantly surprised when I learned they offer actual vegan food and they even change out the offerings daily! I've had their breakfast burrito, cauliflower samosa, lasagna, pie, and trail lunch. Their portion sizes are HUGE, for me the food were easily two meals. My favorite was their lasagna. I don't even like lasagna that much and this was just so cheesy and loaded with all the good stuff. The garlic bread that accompanied the lasagna was perfection as well. You know how sometimes garlic bread is more of just butter and maybe some herbs, but this was LOADED with garlic. The trail lunch I wouldn't get again because you have to assemble it yourself which was a bit inconvenient for me while I was hiking. They also offer vegan sausage as a side which I take advantage of by getting it in the morning as a side to my leftover pie.

Mazry O.

Yelp
Perfect burger in the middle of nowhere. Clean, friendly, tasty, decent price. For sure drop by here if you're coming back from Yosemite

Kathleen S.

Yelp
This was an unexpected surprise when my boyfriend and I spent a night at Yosemite Bug. One of his family members suggested we eat a couple meals here (breakfast and dinner) during our stay, so we decided to check it out. This place is a bit pricey for dinner as an entree costs close to $20, however their breakfast is about $10. They do have a variety of options to accommodate for some dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, meat lovers, and i want to say gluten free?), and kids meals for those who don't eat much. For dinner I had their pork chop with mashed potatoes and my boyfriend had their vegetarian mac and cheese. We shared a slice of their cheesecake which was pretty good. For breakfast the next morning, I had their eggs/bacon/toast (I think it was called the farmer's breakfast) and the boyfriend had their 7 grain pancakes which he really liked. I did feel the dinner hour was a lot more busy than the breakfast hour, with people traveling from who knows where to have a meal here. The staff here is very friendly too. They also serve beer / wine and once you are done eating, don't forget to bus your own tables!

Alex C.

Yelp
Went here lunch with high expectations, 4.5 out of 5 stars, how can you miss the mark by so much? Philly Cheesesteak meat should be thinly sliced, but thick cut beef definitely gives your jaw and aerobic workout, chewy bacon that presents as cardboard, I dont know about the dinner or breakfast service, but lunch is a definite no-no

Michelle V.

Yelp
We stayed at the yosemite bug resort for two nights and loved eating at the june bug cafe! It was delicious for breakfast and dinner! We got the steak with veggies and chipotle butter for dinner both nights and loved it (wish I would've taken a photo) but dinner was incredible. Really appreciated the healthy and filling options for dinner. The salad / soup were so good too!! The breakfast buffet has everything you need for breakfast too! We got it every morning before heading to the park. HIGHLY RECOMMEND EATING HERE

Rosemary M.

Yelp
Really good food, fresh, comfortable space. Great pie. Everything looks great. Food is whole and fresh. No processed food.

Rachel S.

Yelp
This was the very first restaurant that I tried when visiting Yosemite, and we enjoyed the food although it was a bit heavy on the salt. The place has a relaxing casual atmosphere and is very spacious with plenty of tables both inside and outside. Parking was tight and limited, but I guess that's how it is for most places tucked in the mountains. We tried the vegan stuffed portabello mushroom ($19) and the trout ($22) which were both very savory and had a variety of textures (soft quinoa and crunch from snap peas), but it was just too salty for our liking. We compensated by drinking a ton of water. The dinner portions all come with a choice of a vegan salad or spicy creamy vegetable soup. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had a vegan Greek dressing available! Overall, we appreciated the service, the ambiance, and the many plant based options on the menu.

Sabrina G.

Yelp
Wow, wow, is all, I can say! We went here today with 4 vegans and 5 carnivores! They actually put together three specials for us vegans and it was the bomb! The soup today was a vegan Moroccan stew and everyone, including the carnivores said it was fabulous! What a great restaurant and terrific staff

Alan C.

Yelp
Was scrambling to find a dinner location and our camp site recommended this place! It's a bit off the beat path but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food. We ended up ordering the terrific salmon and got a side of mashed potatoes and the salmon was cooked PERFECTLY - not too dry and perfectly moist. Needless to say, I would have immense difficulty trying to replicate this on my own! It came with a generous portion of sides and the side of mashed potatoes was excellent for my daughter who ended up stuffing her face. The staff was also excellent in providing recommendations as I was looking for a nice beer to go along with dinner. Highly recommend visitors to venture to this dinner spot and you won't be disappointed!

Finney M.

Yelp
Very good fresh meals. My husband had the steak and I had the watermelon salad. The broccoli that came with steak wasn't cooked nor had any flavor but everything else delicious . The watermelon salad is huge. I had to get a to go box. The ginger molasses cookie was yummy and my husband loved his cheesecake. This restaurant is way off the road in the middle of some cabin type places. It's called Yosemite bug rustic resort I think.

Jen M.

Yelp
Came here upon recommendation and made a reservation for an outside table via their website on Open Table to celebrate a birthday dinner pre half dome. When we came, we were surprised and confused to see there was no hostess, the menu was not as it is listed online, and that it was more like a cafeteria. No reservation was allowed or needed. Luckily there was ample choice of seating. The food choices for the day were not great the day we were there tho other food choices per other days/reviews looked amazing. I hear the menu changes daily so guess its hit or miss. We opted for the clam chowder (this was good!), thai noodle dish w peanut sauce (this was so heavy - not edible for either of my friends) and a flatbread pizza. This pizza was good for a bite, but sooooooo oily with so much brie and not much other toppings, I also had to discard the majority of it. Sad to not be able to taste what I saw on the listed menu but maybe will be able to try again another time.

Mary C.

Yelp
Love the June Bug Cafe. Cool ambiance, good food and super nice staff. Love this place!

Carrie H.

Yelp
Food here is really great. Off the beaten path but worth it. Wish there was table service. I had a Philly cheesesteak and although it wasn't chopped like a regular cheesesteak, the meat was tasty and tender. Servings are good size.

Maureen M.

Yelp
Consistently excellent food, generous portions, casual vibe. Really one of the best restaurants in the Mariposa area! Highly recommend.

Richard H.

Yelp
If you are planning to visit Yosemite park, this cabin resort features one of the best dining experiences! Initially, we were concerned about having restaurants close to the resort, especially after a long day of hiking. Our dining experience at the June Bug Cafe was impressive, as we enjoyed the fresh, home cooking! Be sure to try their homemade soups! My steak was exceptionally seasoned and perfectly cooked! We also enjoyed their breakfast menu. I would definitely stay here again, just for the food!

Kenji H.

Yelp
A great place to stop for a good meal on your way home from Yosemite. Service is super fast and friendly. The ambiance is relaxing, the parking is a little tight but manageable.

Karla G.

Yelp
This is definitely a cute cafe/resto! We stayed at the resort thus was able to try one of their dishes. I ordered the grilled pork belly with a side of soup. Portion was big and tasted delicious; though a lil bit hard. They also have breakfast buffet, then lunch and dinner menus. They also have desserts- cupcakes and cakes. Food prices around 17-30. They also have kids meal around 9 dollars that includes pizza or pasta, etc. Overall, I recommend this resto if you are looking for a nearby place to eat when you travel to Yosemite.

Wendi K.

Yelp
We ate here everyday we stayed here. The food is on the pricey side (especially for dinner), but of gourmet quality. The menu changes daily. The dinner entrees range from $17-24. I had the richest, most decadent, juiciest, cheesiest patty melt I have ever had here. I also tried a yummy tempeh dish and a filling tofu breakfast burrito. It really seems like they don't salt anything but I sort of appreciated that, since restaurants tend to dump salt on their food sometimes. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options and huge portions.

Bessie C.

Yelp
Love the vibe of the place that I'm for everybody so friendly and the food is very good. You won't regret going then you'll be back again and again.

Annie S.

Yelp
This place is so overpriced and the food was not it. I had the roasted chicken which was so insanely dry. The salad it came with was brown and wilted. The streak my husband ordered medium came out well done and dry. The flavoring wasn't great. I really wouldn't recommend this place. Our bill was $80 for these items and two drinks. I went home hungry.

Ed G.

Yelp
Poor experience. Visited for dinner on 5-17-24. Missing wallet that night. In it were driver's license, $160 in cash, and 5 credit cards. Went back in the morning. Employee who opened the restaurant that morning said wallet wasn't found, but he found a credit card on kitchen floor behind the service counter. It was mine. He didn't know how it got there. Knowing that my credit cards sometimes fell out of the wallet, I suspected that my wallet found its way into the kitchen. I asked the owner to tell his employees that whoever had the wallet could keep the cash and receive a $200 reward for return of the wallet with all other contents - no questions asked. I needed the license for airport security. Owner rebuffed the idea of a reward stating that his employees are honest and would be offended by the offer of a reward. My wallet has not been returned.

Dianna H.

Yelp
Phenomenal food, and for a great price too. Such an unexpected find near Yosemite! We would've never known about this place, except for a stranger on the Yosemite shuttle who happened to overhear that we were driving back to Mariposa for dinner. He recommended this spot to us and was so effusive in his praise that we couldn't help but be intrigued. I am quite grateful to him; this was by far the best meal we had throughout the whole trip! The cafe is located at the Yosemite Bug Resort, maybe a half mile off 140. Because the sun had already set when we turned off the main road towards the resort, it was completely dark driving there and we had no idea what to expect. Dinner at the cafe is served 6-9. We arrived a couple minutes before dinner started and watched them put up a white board with the dinner menu written on. The guy who told us about it mentioned that the menu changes everyday, and I can believe it based on the handwritten menu! The ambiance is super casual and homey. There are couches, some in front of a fireplace, as well as plenty of table seating. There are some basic boardgames like Sorry and Cards Against Humanity as well. The food options just aren't something I'd normally expect to find in a remote cafe an hour outside of Yosemite. Some of the options on the day we went were pan seared ahi tuna, curry rubbed roasted pork loin, curry rubbed roasted crispy tofu, smoked chicken burrito, etc. And the best part? None of it was too pricey either! Most of the entree options ranged from $13-19, with the priciest option being the grilled flat iron steak at $23. They offer vegetarian and vegan options as well...3 out of the 7 entree options didn't have meat. Each entree comes with either a soup or salad. The soups of the day were minestrone and chicken + wild rice. I went with a medium-rare grilled flat iron steak ($23), which is served with roasted garlic sage butter, mashed potatoes, and roasted root vegetables. Whether the steak turned out rare or medium-rare is debatable, but since I enjoy a good rare steak as well, I certainly wasn't complaining! It was honestly the best steak I've had in a while, and I'm not even a big steak person. The bed of mashed potatoes it was served on was perfect too, buttery but not too much so. There was so much food that I couldn't finish all of the roasted root vegetables. I can't rave enough about this meal. My friends all loved their food as well. Please do yourself a favor of eating here!

Shru M.

Yelp
On our way to Yosemite I was absolutely not expecting any good places of food for us vegetarian/vegan diet folks and when I came across this place I was very pleasantly surprised. We came in at 7am on a Sunday morning before entering the park for breakfast. The buffet was fully stocked and ready to go! The best part is that they serve Scrambled Tofu and vegan sausages as options if you don't eat eggs and meat. They had so many great options for fruit Juices, coffee, fresh fruit, homemade granola and bread spreads with Jams etc for the buffet. Definitely worth the $15 we paid. The location is also super pretty and gives you rustic cabin feels all the way! Shoutout to the staff for being super kind and cheerful that morning too. Will return!

Mike S.

Yelp
Disappointed to not see the vegan sausage or tofu scramble like in the pics. I guess call ahead as the menu is written in dry erase marker

Mugdha D.

Yelp
Bombay grill sandwich?! Gimme now!! We stumbled upon this place after deciding that we wanted something different than regular Yosemite valley dining options. This place was quaint and cute with a lot of bug-gy decor and we found outdoor seating ti feel safe and take Covid precautions. The menu was great and the food was amazing! We were in time for the lunch menu and I got myself a Bombay Grill sandwich and the boy got a lunch pack of avocado n cheese. Both the sandwiches were delicious and came with chips or trail mixes, etc. The Bombay sandwich had the perfect ginger mint chutney and pretty much was as we ate back home! We packed some beer too and the server was gracious to keep it int he fridge till we were ready to leave. I'd come back here in a heartbeat if in the area and would love to try out other veg menu options!
