The Best Restaurants and Dishes to Try on South Korea’s Jeju Island | Eater

"A coastal seafood house known for galchi served two ways: a fiery braised jorim in a big stainless steel box simmered over a camping stove with whole abalones, chopped octopus, radish rounds, rice cakes, shrimp, and onions until the sauce reduces to a thick, sweet-spicy glaze, and a whole-grilled version with a Dover-sole–like flakiness that’s easier to eat; eating the belt fish requires careful picking of many small bones, and the spicy/charred mains are balanced by well-fermented kimchi, tiny anchovies, and even ganjang gaejang on the side." - Matthew Kang

Came here on a Monday about 215pm, place was pretty empty. We were given a seat very quickly after we arrived. Dishes were served pretty fast and food was well cooked and heated. This inc piping hot fish, crispy kimchi pancake, hot soup and warm rice.

Had a set meal with a whole cutlass fish which was great! Meal came with a grilled fish and marinated raw crab. Was our 1st time eating raw crab. The flesh was super sweet. Recommended to give it a try if you've never before.

Friendly staff, free parking at the back. Great service, they'll help you to fillet the fish. They also have an English menu. Got the couple set for 2, it's enough. But there's only the grilled version in the couple set. 50k won.

We had the couple lunch set. It was really delicious the staff was also really helpful and friendly and even put everything nice on the table for us to take a photo before deboning the fish.

So, after watching every Youtuber losing their mind over eating galchi-gui in Jeju, we were determined to try it ourselves. This place had good reviews so we stopped by. While the novelty side of this meal was definitely Instagram-worthy, the fish itself was bland and unmemorable to say the least. There were plenty of side dishes, none of them was special and from what I'm reading, the variety and quality of side dishes are diminishing. This whole experience was a major let down. I'm not sure if it's just the food itself that's overhyped or it's the restaurant's fault but we weren't certainly going to spend another $100+ just to find out. It's a shame. So much for the Youtube hype. Won't be fooled again.

Best fish meal we had for family of 4. Ordered the Saekdal Special for 4 (KRW170k). 2 grilled fishes and 1 braised fish pot. Awesome taste and fish texture. 👍👍

A great place to have the famous Jeju Belt fish dish. Try the grilled one. They also give you a lot of great side dishes like marinated soy crabs. Recommend it!
