"On Downtown’s Boulevard, Jun’s injects fresh energy into the district with eclectic plates reflecting Kelvin Cheng’s third-culture background—Chinese roots, North American upbringing and global travels. The heirloom carrots convert skeptics and the beef tartare ranks among the city’s best, while the constantly changing small plates keep the menu exciting." - Claudia de Brito, Sophie Prideaux
"Chef and restaurateur Kelvin Cheung’s larger-than-life personality has found the perfect outlet here in Downtown Dubai. His Chinese heritage, Canadian/American upbringing and international peregrinations all inform his cuisine. Rainbow heirloom carrots; scallops and corn; and char siu short ribs – these are just some of the dishes that are busting with flavour and will have you licking your lips for long after. It’s contagiously fun." - Michelin Inspector
"Helmed by a third-generation chef with roots in North American Cantonese family kitchens, this Downtown Dubai restaurant channels North American Asian food by using familiar ingredients in nontraditional pairings. Standouts include heirloom carrots with smoked labneh—a vegetarian nod to smoked-salmon-and-cream-cheese bagels—and lobster pani puri dressed with fragrant Macanese curry; regulars may even receive personalized messages tucked into their fortune cookies." - Nicola Chilton
"A fusion restaurant notable for pairing inventive cuisine with striking views of the city's skyline; chef Kelvin Cheung is described as aiming 'to introduce himself to each table.' Cheung also reflects on the local food scene: 'Because the Dubai food scene offers top-quality food and service in every corner of the city, my team and I stay motivated to deliver excellence with every experience. There are very few places in the world that cater to such a diverse set of people.'" - Latifah Al-Hazza Latifah Al-Hazza Latifah Al-Hazza is a Chicago-based travel journalist, documentary filmmaker, and co-founder of Femscape Sojourns, a boutique women's travel company. "Kelvin Cheung is an award-winning Canadian chef and launched his restaurant, Jun’s, in downtown Dubai in 2019. After opening two successful cocktail bars in India, he knew that Dubai was the best next step. "All the big players [in food and cocktails] are here now,” he tells me as he presents a new and colorful drink. “There is a dense multicultural diaspora in Dubai and things that get started here go international. If you want things to happen, they will happen here.” Cheung’s unique cocktail menu reflects his multicultural past, the child of Asian immigrants growing up in Toronto, living in India, and traveling the world. Both the food and cocktail menus are very personal and flavor forward. He even has a drink called PB&J, an homage to his time as a latch-key kid in the '90s. He gestures to downtown Dubai, sparkling lights in palm trees line the spotless streets and luxury cars are parked along the curb. Everything here is glitz and glamour, distinctiveness, and exceptionality. Cheung attributes the rise in distinctive and delectable cocktails to the ease and accessibility of fresh and exclusive ingredients. “We can get anything imported,” he says. “Literally anything we want. And it’s not crazy expensive. The rate of consumption is so high that we can have premium products at a good price.”" - Travel + Leisure Editors
