14 Places to Walk in the Footsteps of Dinosaurs

"The past is vast on the Isle of Skye. Ruined castles that are hundreds of years old stand atop an unusual topography shaped by glaciers during the last Ice Age. But the land holds traces of an even more ancient past as well. Before the dinosaurs died out, they roamed this breathtaking stretch of land. Fortunately, you can still find marks of their presence in a few places on the island. Sometimes the footprints are hard to find because the tide covers them with seaweed or sand, so you may have to scour about a little. Once you find one, you will soon see the others and be able to connect with these amazing, lost creatures. There are a few places to find the dinosaur prints on the Isle of Skye. On An Corran, you can see prints on rocks not far from the ramp. These three-toed prints belonged to a family of ornithopods, which were two-legged herbivores. You can also visit Score Bay to see prints from sauropods, which are from the same family as brontosaurus and diplodocus. These tracks are about 170 million years old. Some of these footprints are quite big, and it’s believed to be the largest dinosaur trackway in Scotland." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

This was SO freaking cool! We found several footprints and the fishing camp island across was interesting to learn about. The beach was clean with plenty of space to enjoy.

Any chance that I get to explore a shore is worth my time. And when you do, be sure to wear good footwear and to be cautious if it is wet and where you walk. There is seaweed, after all. Anyone would love to be the first to observe the footprint of dinosaurs, but getting a chance to find a few of the 10 or so embedded in the rock is quite exciting. Just be patient. Consult the pictures shared on Google Maps. And don't be afraid to ask others to guide you, if you think that they have found some. It's exciting. When there has been rain, they are a little easier to identify. Some of the big rocks have shell inclusions. A family drew their own dinosaurs prints in the sand...

Beautiful. Footprints were pretty cool to see- thinking about the size of "animal" that walked there millions of years ago. Just wild. Some great pics at the shoreline. Just off the main road and good parking selections.

Try to get there when the tide is low. The prints were covered by lots of green algae and seaweed, but we were able to see them. Parking in minimal and drive slowly going in and out. There is a nice cafe when you head south from there, and don't miss the water fall on the left when leaving either, there are at least two places with waterfalls.

I spent hours just wondering around looking for footprints like an excited 10 year old at Christmas. It was great fun and a lovely place too. The scenery around this area is magnificent.

I’m sure the footprints are there somewhere but we couldn’t find them, nor it seems could anyone else from the look of things. Must have been under sand or seaweed lol. But a nice sandy beach with shallow levels for splashing and paddling. Lovely clear water and stunning scenery. Parking is limited and no doubt is very hectic in high season.

It was really fun to explore for the footprints, which I think we found a couple. The views are breathtaking, my children, who are now adults would have loved to have experienced this.

Such a fun little walk. We climbed the rocks along the beach and spotted a few footprints. Great photo opportunities.
