The 12 Best Tapas Spots In Madrid

"This family-run place focusing on pintxos has been on the scene since 1962, and it shows—the straightforward tapas bar is standing-room-only and usually crowded with retirees from upscale Salamanca. The tapas are as traditional as they come: crusty bread topped with salmon, ensaladilla Rusa, and more. The food is never precooked, and they use only fresh ingredients from Mercado de La Paz across the street. While there's outdoor seating, we like to stand at the long indoor bar (get there early if you wanna grab a stool), which is lined with glass cases full of their more original tapas: creamy spinach with quail egg, just-stinky-enough goat cheese with pear, or shrimp and filling hake gratin." - lori zaino

Jurucha - Review - Salamanca - Madrid - The Infatuation

"This family-run tapas bar has been on the scene since 1962, and it shows—the straightforward tapas bar is standing-room-only and usually crowded with retirees from upscale Salamanca. But that's exactly why we love it. The tapas are as traditional as they come: crusty bread topped with salmon, ensaladilla Rusa, and more. Uhm wow. There was space at that counter, so I decided to have a snack and try a few tapas. Everything was delicious! My favorite, surprisingly was the smoked sardine and tomato spread toast. Not at all salty, and was actually refreshing. My second favorite was the fresh cod that was then toasted to perfection. Super juicy and tasty pairing. The last one I tried was caramelized onion on a slice of pork. This one I could skip, because it was a little too sweet. The staff was super friendly and never rushed me, while I was looking at their selection. Everything was so good, but had no signs whatsoever. I would recommend relying on your visual senses and just choose what you think you might like—that’s half the surprise!

This is one of those proper Spanish tapas bars where you just walk in, grab a drink, and order whatever looks good. It’s not fancy, not modern — just simple, local, and really good. Come as you are, no pressure. It’s the kind of place you go when you don’t want to overthink anything — just good food and a relaxed vibe. Definitely try the 3 cheeses , the lomo with caramelised onion, spinach with mushrooms and the tortilla — all so good. And honestly? Be open to trying a few tapas you wouldn’t normally go for. I did that here and didn’t regret it at all — it’s part of the fun. If you want something casual and properly Spanish, this is it.

If you want to seat outside there is a line, the prices are most expensive than inside. The service is slow and the food is ok but not great, a lot of things on the menu they are out of, so be sure to ask if they have what you wish to eat before you wait in line. Pet friendly.

Long lines of posh people but the pinchos here are good indeed. I highly recommend the huevos langostinos, Russian salad, crep salmon, croqueta jamón and the black pudding pincho. I’m not so much of a pincho person as too much carbs are involved, but I kinda like this one. Try to arrive early and if you see a long line, just queue in but inform the waitress that you want to sit either indoor or outdoor. This is because sometime they have spaces available inside while people are queuing for the outdoor space. Be patient as the waitress are overloaded. Overall, one of my favorite tapas place in Salamanca neighborhood.

Google
A classic Spanish tapas bar offering a nice tortilla de patatas on the runny side that’s served nice and warm. Very comforting

One of the best price-quality spots in Madrid! - The food is delicious and traditionally Spanish. - The service is fast and professional. - The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. Please note that: It can be hard to find a seat, so arriving early is highly recommended.

If you asked me to draw how I imagine an authentic tapas bar I would have probably drawn something very very similar to Jurucha. A narrow space developed around a long table that displays a huge variety of ready-to-be-eaten tapas, buzzing with people who chat and have a quick bite. Located immediately outside of a lovely food market where people go to do their grocery shopping. I regret arriving there after having had a big meal or I would have tried many more things. The beer and tapas I got were delicious. Wish I could go back!

Google
A must try in Madrid. Jurucha is one of the most classic tapa spots. You don't need to do the line for eating in "la Barra". Favorite tapas: La de pechugas (chicken and bechamel croqueta) La de huevo (egg and bechamel croqueta)

Yelp
Amazing! Was looking for a bit to eat around and came across this place. Didn't want to sit outside with my baby so I asked one of them if there's an available table inside and he said 10 mins. Perfect, 10 mins later and there was a table. Food was incredible! Meatballs are good, not used to this type of sauce for the meatballs but tried something new and it was delicious! I feel like everything on the menu are so good!

Yelp
Due to its proximity to our hotel and the high reviews, my wife and I decided to have our inaugural tapas experience, and honestly, it did not disappoint. In Spain, I still get confused about seating. "Is this place a seat-yourself place or a wait-to-be-seated place?" Sometimes it is hard to tell; therefore, to avoid an awkward encounter by making a command decision, I stand in one central place awkwardly blocking the waitress/waiter until they tell me what to do. Thank God for my wife, though, who makes the decision and just sits. Luckily, she was right. This is one of those just-sit-and-wait-for-the-waitress places. Now, before you order know that you are welcome to take a look inside at the food. Also, know that some items on the menu are not available at certain times of the day (I'm sorry but I'm still in the dark as to what those items are). Nevertheless, they have a great selection of tapas (midday snacks, translation curiosity of me). The great thing about this place is that there are zero tapas and drinks that breach the €6 mark. In fact, everything we got was under €3.75. Our most expensive item was the tortilla de patata, which was deliciously proportioned (a great ratio of runny to solid). Not only was the food and drink very cheap but it was also delicious. We tried a smorgasbord of tapas. I did not necessarily delight in all the tapas, some were just not my bag baby. However, others were definitely my bag (see pictures for details). In total, we got 6 tapas and five drinks and only paid €27. Overall, this is definitely a great spot for tapas. Whether you're out with your date or you're bringing the kids along for the ride, this little place off Calle de Serrano is perfect to break the seal on your first tapas experience. Enjoy!

Yelp
Decent sidewalk terrace to have drinks and tapas. Tried small sandwiches de jamón , canapé with fish and shrimp, as well as a canapé with brie. All were good. Service is ok. I understand that at a certain time food selection is limited. However, it's confusing when a waitress doesn't know what is available and tells you to look at tapas on bar counter inside. Overall good for a cheap bite and drink in this neighborhood

Yelp
Limited seating! Definitely a place where locals hang out. You can order drinks from the patio table, but there is no actual menu -- you go in and see what's available on small plates, ask what's in it (or not), and then pick a few out and they bring it out to you. I have no idea what the names of the dishes are, but we had meatballs, mushroom diced on toast, pork loin with onion and sweet aoili on toast, jamon sandwich. All delicious, and friendly + accommodating service even though we clearly weren't from around here (and tried broken but valiant Spanish).

Yelp
When I travel, I try my best to walk around and discover some hidden local food venues. This place definitely falls into my category. Thanks to yelp reviews and navigation, I found this place in Madrid version of "soho". It feels so local and is away from tourists. Amazing tapas! So delicious! Highly recommend to people who wants to eat cheap in a local atmosphere.

Yelp
Located in an upscale shopping area, Jurucha is a perfect Tapas stop. Order a Mahou and allow their staff to deliver a sampling of "los mejores". Psst - There is a seating area in the back in you don't want to stand at Tapas bar.

Yelp
Great tapas. Definitely not a touristic place. You don't see any foreigner in the bar. Amazing food and fun staff.

Yelp
Un clásico que nunca falla, yo he llevado a muchos extranjeros y les encanta. Lo malo, cada año que hacen una reforma en el local pierde encanto, van a peor. Afortunadamente los pinchos siguen siendo los mismos
