The Best Food Trucks In Seattle

"The Speed-E Mart along Renton Ave South has a green-and-yellow-painted food cart in the parking lot serving terrific Jamaican food. The menu varies daily (check out their Instagram for updates). But it doesn't matter if you end up with a spicy jerk chicken plate, a handful of beef patties, or oxtails smothered in a rich brown gravy—the food here is worth stacking to-go containers in your car and risking curry spills. " - kayla sager riley, aimee rizzo, gabe guarente

This is my new favorite Caribbean restaurant in the city and the only one I can recommend. Authentic ingredients, delicious food as well as a small grocery store so you can take some Jamaican staples home.

I live in Tacoma and had a studio session in Seattle so I stopped here and she was so friendly! The food was a nice portion it cost about $24 with tax included! Tasty food, great customer service! I had no trouble parking!

This review breaks my heart because I want to support them but I have to be honest and I hope they take this as it is intended, as feedback with the hope they can make adjustments. - Jerk Pork: Pork was really dry but the worst part of this is that they don't cook the pork like jerk pork, it's pork that they then put jerk sauce over. That's just not the same thing and it's lacking in the taste. - Beef patty and coco bread: The patty filling was really delicious but so little of it, really thin. The patty pastry was dry and hard on the edges, like it was old. The coco bread was frozen and once served it was rock hard. I considered not even leaving a review because I didn't want it to be negative, but then I thought "how can they get better if they don't know?" So please, consider this feedback and I hope to visit again.

🔥 I tore this plate up! Definitely will return. Oxtail was seasoned and tender, falling off the bone yall. Idk about these other reviews but food was excellent, service was good, plantain was made fresh.

I finally got some goat curry and they give you mostly rice. I come usually late in the afternoon and they are usually out of everything. They really need to plan better. They were out of goat curry and everything else for they matter except for some steak dish. At least 4 people came and were disappointed. They also need to tell that guy serving the food he should not be eating it on the line while he is working. It was tacky and unsanitary. The beef patties were not that good. The chicken patties were good. Customer service could be better.

Google
I was hesitant to try the food with all the mixed reviews, but I'm definitely glad I did. I arrived at the truck, had to call the number, and go to another location for order/ pickup. There were some sides I wanted to try but they will not be available until the food truck is done with renovations so I look forward to going back for those. I wanted to try the vegetarian ackee with plantains but received ackee/ salt fish. I did not want to wait for a new dish and never had the Jamaican national dish so I took the meal. It was succulent and kept me full for over 4+ hours. Looking forward to the good truck being open.

I’ve been this place a few times over the past year and it had been hit or miss. My most recent experience was completely pathetic. I walked in and saw all the food uncovered. The server was eating at the register and I had to ask the server a couple times what she had on the menu for the day and what the cost of the entree’s were. She said I can look on line if I needed to know the prices. She had no idea what the costs were. I then asked her about a promotion that was posted in a sign on the counter, but she exclaimed that “oh, I forgot about this promotion and what the details are. I don’t much about it”. In the middle of our conversation , another customer came up and asked to be helped. The server told me that she will need to help this new customer first then she will get back to me. I was so turned off by the presentation, lack of awareness, or customer service, I left without ordering. As a fellow Jamaican, I felt so embarrassed that this place says they are representing Jamaican food and culture. This is NOT it. Please get it together.

Google
The food was good. The Jerk Pork was a little dry. The flavors blend very well, the rice has good flavor and the whole meal was overall great. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
On a Saturday afternoon after running a heap of errands in south Seattle I was famished! I needed sustenance of a homey sort nothing fast or fried would suffice. The thing that was on my mind and heart was OXTAIL! I'd been craving the succulent meat for a while with no hope of ever finding a restaurant near me with the option. I searched Jamaican and this restaurant came to the top of the list. Within a close proximity too! I scurried as fast as I could to the location. When I pulled into the parking lot I noticed a small mart and across from it was a modest food truck wrapped in the colors of the Caribbean and I KNEW I was in the right place. The single operator was outside of the truck erasing something from the board and my heart sank. I knew what was being removed in my soul I knew... I approached the truck and saw with a heavy heart the oxtail had been sold out. That didn't stop me I bantered with the kind lady that was attending and I ordered a plate of curry chicken with a side of Sorrel. OUTSTANDING! The flavors were rich the meat delicate and of course cooked to perfection. The fresh thyme sprigs weren't just there for show they did their job too! I know exactly where to go when I'm craving a good authentic Jamaican meal and they serve breakfast too! I'd advise to check the hours before arriving as well as maybe giving her a call. You won't regret the meal nor the sleep after it's been consumed. I will be making a steady appearance to this place albeit the price is reasonable the satisfaction is priceless. Thank you Just Like Home!

Yelp
I don't have a Jamaican mama but I feel like the oxtail at Just Like Home would be exactly what I would want her to make! It is so tender, flavorful, not greasy, and the portion is very generous. The rice and peas is some of the best I've ever had and the side salad has the perfect Italian style dressing to cut through the richness of the oxtail. I highly recommend getting the pine and ginger juice as a thirst quencher. I loved it so much that I got another order of oxtail and a curry chicken to take home.

Pauline C.

Yelp
Amazing! I used to order before and rhe portions were small. Now wow I have ordered twice and the portion and flavor are so delicious! Will keep ordering.
google avatar

MiYong E.

Yelp
Oxtail and goat curry were both tender and flavorful. Meat was well prepped and not gamey or fatty. She put some stew on the rice - not enough to be wet wet, but enough to make ya happy. Salad was fresh and well dressed. Very filling portions and a good amount of meat. Utensils and napkins are available. Truck looked very clean inside. We took our food around the corner to Kubota Garden to eat at the picnic tables.

Yelp
I Continue to get disappointed every time I go here. Yes, I did say every time because I've gone here on multiple occasions with the hope of my experience being better than the last and unfortunately it hasn't changed. The food is overpriced in relation to amount of food given. The curry flavor is good but the jerk chicken taste more like barbecue chicken with a bunch of sauce smothered over. There's very little jerk flavor in the chicken but that wasn't enough as you can see in the picture they give you a half a pound of rice and a small handful of chicken with majority of bones in it. I wish I could give a better review as a whole attempt to support black business in the south end, but this food truck needs to get better .
google avatar

Yelp
Crazy good Jamaican grub, you better ask somebody! The first time there, I got Curry Goat . Very tender with lots of flavors going on and the right amount of heat.

Yelp
Food was awesome and the young lady who served us was equally as polite and served us an authentic Jamaican plate. I can't wait to return. It was the most authentic Jamaican food I've had since I last ate the real deal! I'm so impressed by this 'food truck'! They should have a restaurant. It would stay full of patrons!!

Ken R.

Yelp
The food was okay, the oxtail dinner was very small considering the price & compared to other jamaican restaurants. I asked for extra gravy for the rice but she didn't apply it to the rice. The rice still had flavor so that's good but the oxtails were very small & didn't really have much meat, so definitely a waste on money on that. I also grab a beef patty now that was actually good and had some spice to it which i loved. I would only come back to grab a beef patty!

Keke B.

Yelp
I had looked up jerk chicken near me an this is the first place that pops up so I go an order the jerk chicken meal an the curry chicken meal had such high hopes because ironically on the front of there truck it says "just like your in Jamaica" or something of that nature usually I look at my food before I leave but the one time I just drove off right after I got the food it was horrible the jerk chicken tasted like regular bbq sauce an was dry on the inside the curry chicken was bland had no flavor on top of that there was a hair in the rice

Yelp
Just picked up my food and it's amazing. I've had authentic Jamaican food for aa long as I can remember and this does not disappoint. No idea what the entitled poster Yen A. is talking about below with the 2 stars. It's their business and they have the right to have specials or certain items offered on certain days. Plenty of restaurants do that. Their portions are NOT lacking, and often certain meats DO have a lot of bones. Sounds like to me they've never had food with seasoning and culture . Will definitely be returning this hit my pregnancy craving, so glad I stumbled on it!
google avatar

Yan L.

Yelp
A must try! The food is seasoned well and yummy. I didn't have to wait too long for the food after ordering. Jerk chicken is a must; a little spicy but it's good. I do have to admit there was a lot of bones in both my orders. Love me some rice and peas though. The con was thatI wasn't able to pick up my order after calling on the phone. I had to physically be there.

Yelp
Passed this small street side food wagon on my way to Kubota Gardens. Returned after our enjoyable stroll through the gardens. What a great spot! Friendly folks and delicious food. My wife and I split a jerk chicken with beans and rice. Really yummy! And, they do a variety of fresh juices. We had ginger-pineapple and mango. Both were good but the ginger-pineapple was REALLY good! Beautiful gardens and great food! A perfect fall outing!

Yelp
Just had this today. My partner has been absolutely dying to find this kind of food in the PNW. The truck was being worked on I think so we had to stop by their home instead. Partner and I both got jerk chicken. I also meant to ask about beef patties, but forgot. Oh well, next time I will remember! Anyway it was very delicious! I initially expected something very spicy, it was definitely more sweet w/ a kick instead but oh so flavorful. Also since other reviews keep mentioning getting it delivered cold: it was all piping hot when we got it, and we just drove to a spot nearby to park and eat. My partner remarked that it tasted very much like what she remembered :) (also: yes, it has bones. it's supposed to)

Yelp
And anytime I have a taste for Jamaican food. This place is the first that pops in my mind. every single dish I had was packed with flavor. Also, the fresh juices are yummy as well. I love patties and their patties are so delicious from jerk chicken to oxtails. You cannot go wrong with coming here. At my previous job I would literally drive across town just to pick this up for me and my coworker. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Authentic cooked with love! Flavorful family atmosphere! I was in search for beef patties and found a gem! Everything we ate absolutely delicious! The service was very hospitable and made you feel like family!

Yelp
Just Like Home is just a minute up the street from us and I happened to stop by to see what this place was about. Having recently come back from a trip to Jamaica, I was ready for more Jamaican food. JLH did not disappoint! I bought the goat curry and jerk chicken to try and sample a bit of each and they were both really well made. The food truck was clean and Sophia got the food together very quickly. I've already told multiple friends to check it out and support this local food truck! I plan to go back more frequently for my jamaican food fix.
google avatar

Ro B.

Yelp
Miss Sophia!!! DI REAL TING!!!! This really does taste like home!! Can't wait to try the soup!!!
google avatar

Jade E.

Yelp
first time trying the oxtails. rice is a little undercooked, delicious though. oxtails could have allot more sauce, it's great otherwise. salad is delicious
google avatar

Gabe B.

Yelp
Only authentic Jamaican food in Seattle. All di food is tender and have flava. Been here 3 times and they are consistent
google avatar

Suntruth G.

Yelp
Everything was amazing!!! Skip all of those negative reviews. It's not a restaurant it's a truck. First bite will have you feeling like you're standing outside in Jamaican.

Olando B.

Yelp
# 1 food truck in Seattle (authentic Jamaican cuisine )won't be disappointed love the food and customer service

Yelp
Amazing pop-up spot that just opened up in Rainier Beach on Thurs, Fr, Sat. Everything i have had so far has been bomb - the jerk chicken, stew pork, curry chicken, oxtail. I look forward to going there every weekend now.
google avatar

A V.

Yelp
Delicious Jamaican food. She even sells fresh juices. My only wish is that there was more food. I ate it all , but that's a reason to return.

Tiara T.

Yelp
This is Authentic Jamaican food. Everything is so fresh & flavorful. The jerk chicken is my favorite and go to.. I will not go anywhere else for Jamaican food. I wish I can give 10 stars.
google avatar

Fresh R.

Yelp
The food was ok but the customer service is terrible. This is the reason for the one star!

Gage B.

Yelp
was good, enjoyed the food. wouldve liked it if the prices were a little lower, but same goes for anywhere in the seattle area.
google avatar

Marcus K.

Yelp
Authentic Jamaican food. I got the Oxtails and they were bomb! A lil pricey tho but its coo for something every once in a while
google avatar

Boujie N.

Yelp
Just had this delivered by doordash and both entrees were cold. Oxtail was not tender and cold. Goat was not tender and was cold. The sauces were still gelatin as if they scooped it out of the fridge and not cooked/heated. The plantain was hard and cold. I've had plenty of Jamaican places around the world to know this was not it.

Yelp
Bro I'm so devastatingly sad about having to give this place only one star. It's right by our house and we've been wanting to try it. We ordered through the door dash app last night, Was given a time and I drove down there and waited at least 15 minutes before going up to the window to ask if our food was ready. The gentleman working that night threw me the side eye and said the food wasn't ready yet, didn't give me an estimate so I had to ask. Another 25 minutes. Cool fine whatever, I don't mind waiting especially after all the raving reviews. Y'all. I gave this gentleman even more time just to be nice. I watched as other ppl ordered their food, was told they had to wait too. In my head I'm like ha, good luck. It had been an hour now since we put in our order. If we had gotten tacos like our original plan we would've been home stuffed by then. Instead the gentleman was confused which one was our order, proceeded to tell me the oxtails I ordered an hour ago had ran out. He subbed the curry shrimp with rice instead. It smelled delicious but that was it. That's where the good stuff ends. Shrimp was over cooked, had no flavor and I only got 5 pieces of small shrimp. The rice portion was wayyyyyy to much for 5 lil pieces of shrimp. And the salad that came with it was dry. Who gives salad with no dressing?!? I'm done with this place y'all. Waited over an hour just to be told my food was out and subbed me something else that had absolutely no flavor. Way too overpriced for shit food. It's too bad because I want to support small Black businesses but not at my hard earned money's expense. I'm good y'all. Idk how long this place will last honestly. We need better Caribbean food in the southend of Seattle and this place is not it.

Avery F.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious Real yard food. All the drinks are 10/10 Jerk tastes proper with enough sauce.
google avatar

Abe T.

Yelp
Best Jamaican spot in town and I've tried them! The rice and peas was flavorful, the jerk chicken was so good it took me back to Jamaica for a sec. Excited to try the oxtail soon!
google avatar

Julia B.

Yelp
When driving to a friends house we saw a little banner ad for Just Like Home & boy am I glad that we did. When you pull up it is a little trailer in a liquor store parking lot (we almost missed it)! This food literally tasted just like home for me. Being Jamaican I am hard to please when I see signs claiming to be Jamaican food. This food was legit! The oxtail was tender & the flavor was amazing! The jerk had just the right amount of kick! And the curry was great had my kiddos asking for more! I would love to go back & try more of the items!
google avatar

T. T.

Yelp
SOOOOO GOOD. Tastiest jerk chicken I've ever had. Oxtail was on point too. Can't wait to get it again.

Yen A.

Yelp
It was a disappointment! Fairly new restaurant and already try to cut corners in food description and quality. In Yelp, they described their dishes serve with rice and pea, salad and plaintain. The rice was just steam rice and they charge for plantain if you want it. I showed the Yelp description to the owner and he said it was 'old" information. They was about to charge us $6 for 5 pieces of platain. The taste of food was just decent, notthing special in jamaican spices. They charged $16 for about 5=6 pieces of stew chicken with portion of steam rice and small amt of slaw mix vegetables. My husband ordered the goat curry and the meat was gamey and old. It had no protein sweetness in it and lot of bones. That is more expensive than eating in restaurant. They didn't even put utensil or napkin when we finally sit down to eat the food. The menu in Yelp had prices with the items. At the food truck, the menu didn't have prices next to the items. They get to choose what to serve for the day at the price that they decided. I guess according to "market price". I felt totally cheated with price and quality.

Tavar C.

Yelp
Best Jamaican food you will have in seattle!! Great customer service amazing food, people, atmosphere. I would go there everyday if could! You won't be disappointed!

Jessica B.

Yelp
Stopped by to get takeout lunch with friends after a trip to Kubota gardens. We got the oxtail and the jerk chicken, both of which were absolutely delicious. They came with sweet plantains as well. The actual menu was a daily menu that was a subset (maybe six?) of the items we saw online, and aside from the plantains they didn't have any sides available. The servings were generous so mostly the lack of side options was a bummer only because we were excited to give them a try. Would definitely go back.

Donniqua W.

Yelp
The rice and peas was super good and chicken with the jerk sauce but my chicken was super cold and I also got the oxtails and they just didn't have any flavor to me I would try it again

Felecia M.

Yelp
I ordered the Curry Chicken and the Jerk Pork entrees. Both were amazingly delicious. So happy to have a spot to get good Jamaican food now. They give large portions of food at a reasonable prices. I received the food quickly and it was the perfect temperature. This will be my go-to spot for curry and jerk dishes!
