Great stay! The room was a little smaller than I had anticipated but it worked just fine. Bed was super comfy. We stayed just overnight for my husband’s birthday before heading back home to DC. The surrounding area is nice and walkable. We sat outside for breakfast, which was really outstanding. The main cook is a character! Had a lovely time and would stay again if we were flying out of Grand Rapids again!

This property keeps an active change adding touches of art elements that catch your attention. |When it comes to comfort the rooms that have been upgraded are focused on functionality and quality. The absolute best thing is the linens and pillows. |Food quality could be improved with more creativity, design and quality.

I can't say enough about the top notch customer service at the hotel!! The receptionist and supervisor, Molly and Bella are the most kind and patient humans. I made an error with my reservation and they took the time to assist me and correct my issue with patience and kindness. I am so grateful for these two turning my bad day around. I love staying at this hotel and I will be back again! A beautiful hotel with the best staff! My room is amazing with river views and updated decor. I couldn't be happier.

This is a lovely hotel. The rooms and decor are exquisite. The views of the city and river are beautiful. There is an on-site spa, indoor pool, work out room and other amenities. I enjoyed dinner at the on-site restaurant overlooking the river with live music. The staff is exceptional. Elvis made me an excellent omelet at the breakfast station! He was a delight.

My wife and I recently stayed at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids for a much-needed getaway to reconnect and rekindle our marriage, and I cannot express how perfect this experience was. This place has no shortcomings — every single detail exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The valet greeted us with a genuine smile and offered fantastic advice on the local scene. I wish I remembered his name, but I suspect every member of their team is just as friendly and professional. One highlight of our stay was dinner in one of their outdoor domes. What an incredible experience! The setting was intimate and private, creating the perfect environment to enjoy a special meal with someone you love. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful — attentive, kind, and accommodating in every way. When one dish wasn’t to our taste (even though it was made exactly as intended), she noticed without us saying a word and graciously took it off our bill. That level of attentiveness and care blew us away. Our room was another standout — newly renovated, modern, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. We also had the privilege of enjoying the club lounge, which offered delicious food, great drinks, and stunning views, all accompanied by equally amazing staff. Finally, we indulged in the spa, and let me tell you, as someone who’s never been one to pamper myself, I’m now a believer! The experience was relaxing, rejuvenating, and something I plan to do more often. To sum it up, JW Marriott Grand Rapids may very well have saved my marriage. It has always been on my bucket list to stay here, and I got to come and stay here this past weekend for my 30th birthday (December 20-22), and I just want to leave this review because it was probably the best service and experience I have ever had at any hotel. First, upon arrival, we valeted our car. The valet staff were exceptional. If I could rate them 100 stars I would, (as well as the hotel and staff all together). They were so helpful, friendly, and very trustworthy. They unloaded our car, and brought our cart of luggage upstairs for us, and when we checked out they even loaded up our car as well. Check in was such a great experience. Very informative, communication was wonderful, and staff was extremely friendly. They also explained where everything was, what we were welcome to check out, etc. We were on the 18th floor, in a newly renovated room, with a city view. The view was stunning, and we loved that we could even see Rosa Parks circle at night. With the Christmas lights and watching the ice rink. So beautiful this time of year. I love the style/interior design of the room. Very modern but also aesthetic. The bathroom was absolutely beautiful and very luxury feeling. We loved the beds, so comfortable. Very clean also. We also enjoyed the pool which one thing I love out of every pool at every other hotel I have been too is that the water feels so smooth, natural and clean. It does not taste or feel like there's chemicals in it, and didn't leave our skin feeling dry and wrinkled. We noticed the water in the tub and shower in our bathroom also felt that way. I was very impressed!! So I pray that never changes. I LOVE that the hotel has steam rooms!! an unscented one and a Eucalyptus scented one. So so relaxing. Only thing that bothered me is there was I believe a couple staying a few rooms down who were slamming doors and arguing/yelling at each other. I understand relationships have their disagreements, but I feel people need to be a bit more considerate that they aren't the only ones there, and hotel room walls are not the thickest... only advice is people should keep the volume of their voices down during moments like that or take the problems back home and settle... But this is not the hotel's fault so don't use this part as a reason to not stay here! So shoutout to all the staff for the help, kindness, excellent customer service, cleanliness, and everything they did to make this experience the best I ever had anywhere. We will definitely stay many more times!! :) Keep up the good work everyone!!

Stylish place. This hotel feels sleek and modern, has very beautiful common areas and bars, a beautiful river view, and clean spacious rooms. I stayed here for a business conference and can confirm the event staff / catering team / service staff are phenomenal. I was surprised at how good the catering was, even though we were feeding a large group for multiple nights. Great spot to stay if you have business in downtown Grand Rapids. This place is also nice enough for weddings, date nights, and similar events.

This hotel is located in busy area in Grand Rapids. Overall, it was a good stay. It was well kept and clean. It has a Starbucks inside the building. The hallways are a little bit on the dark side and kind of difficult to see at some point. Parking was easy and convenient attached to the hotel. Walking distance to many convenient locations.

Great room, great service and super convenient if you are coming to Grand Rapids to see an event at Van Andel. They have a sky bridge that takes you directly to the arena without being impacted by bad weather. We stay here every time we come back to GR. Love this place.

I hate to write a negative review because the front desk staff is very sweet, but this is not a 4-5 star property and not worth $600 for one night. Here is what went wrong for the little staycation we had this past Saturday: 1. (Not the fault of the hotel, but still did not help The experience) we ended up opting for a stay the same weekend as prom and a wedding. We could hear noise up and down the hallways through about 2:30 in the morning. Terrible experience. 2. The AC would not work for us until about 3 am. We were sweating like pigs the entire night. We tried to get it to come on but it just wouldn't work for us. And when it did kick over and turn on, the power/output is very very low. If we had gone just a week prior no problem, but the temps are starting to get warmer outside, so wrong time for the AC to not kick on. 3. The bed. Oh...my...goodness. We have stayed at 200 hotels in our life and this had to be the worse bed we have ever slept on. It was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. 4. (Again...not the fault of the hotel, but it didn't help).... We purchased a voucher to the French bistro for breakfast. One little problem... staying at the hotel does not necessarily guarantee you a spot in the restaurant, especially while a private birthday event is taking place. We tried to get seating at 10:50 and the earliest spot they had was 12:20. By that time we were gone.the staff did give us a credit though. Just not good. barely worth $250 a night let alone $603.

Come here for one night stay, just to get out of the house and get to see some Christmas decoration. Love the hotel and its location, especially during Christmas. We were checked in to room on 18th floor, love high floor as always! The room is nice, the front desk agent checked in us very efficiently too. He also offered to take photo for three of us in front of the Christmas tree which I really appreciate. Some minor things that I see in the room which need a bit more attention: 2 pieces of tape on the wall?!, a hair strand in the sink. Wish window is a bit cleaner because the view is so beautiful but with winter is here, that one is understandable. We have a lovely stay and can't wait to be back.

Don't be misled by the shiny aesthetics. The service at this hotel is terrible. Room cleaning happens at random times throughout the day. It could be 8am or 2pm or 5:30pm. There are 4 elevators, but during my 8 day stay only 1 was working at a time. When asked why that was, the maintenance team said "oh yeah I'm not sure why they aren't working". The hotel wifi is somehow even more unreliable. If a hotel wants to charge what they are charging, I expect these simple and routine things to be reliable. I'll be looking for another option next time.

We ended our road trip around Lake Michigan and enjoyed our time at the JW Marriott. As a platinum member, we were greeted with 1k bonus Bonvoy points, waived parking fees, access to the lounge, early check-in and upgraded room to a river view. If you are a Bonvoy member, call ahead and see if they have any upgrades available. Breakfast buffet at the restaurant was delicious and accommodating to our family's needs. Unlimited refreshments, coffee beverages, appetizers, desserts in the lounge during schedules times. Main lobby has plenty of lounge space and the design and architecture of the room makes you feel like you are truly in unique boutique hotel. Lounge is spacious and allows for a quiet workspace or a cocktail with a gorgeous view. Staff were extremely friendly and felt like we were accommodated in every way. Highly recommend this hotel for work or leisure if you want to experience this small city.

Overall: A decent JW that is showing its age definitely needs a renovation. And service was hit and miss. Arrival: arrived by taxi from the airport. Doormen ignored us completely. Check in: Younger Asian woman who was just doing the minimum. Struggled to pull up our reservation and then claimed the reservation was only for 1 night. I had to show her the printed confirmation showing 4 nights before she "found" the remaining nights in the system. Also, no concept of acknowledging status and no offer of bonus points or gift... Room: We had tried to use suite night upgrades but our request was not accepted. We asked for an upgraded room, and received a nice corner room 2204. Large, panoramic windows overlooking the Grand River. Carpet was stained, some walls had stains, furniture was old. Standard items in room- king size bed, mini-refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker, mid-sized LG TV, side chair, chaise lounge. In room safe was malfunctioning, constantly beeping. Had to call maintenance, and all he could do was silence the safe by taking out the internal batteries. Bed: Mediocre worn bed, flattened pillows, middle of the road linens. Bathroom: Horrible lighting but nice soaking tub with separate shower. Concierge lounge: Amazingly even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the lounge was serving evening hors d'oeuvres but wit zero social distancing and crowded. Was too dangerous from a COVID-19 perspective for us to take advantage of the evening snacks. Lounge provided free water and sodas. In the mornings, we visited the lounge for coffee, and we noticed it was not well cared for. Leftovers from the night before were strewn about, trash not emptied, coffee machine out of milk... Restaurants on site: (1) Little French place in the lobby (see separate review of Margaux). $20 voucher for breakfast if you have status. Nearly all breakfast items are at $20 on the menu. (2) Starbucks. Overall service: appeared short-staffed and personnel were a bit stressed and not providing normal levels of service for a JW Marriott. Gym and pool: Very small gym and pool. Steam room is broken and being eliminated. Tips and other info: This JW is located centrally in downtown Grand Rapids. (1) Uber/Taxi from the airport runs $40-55. (2) There's a little basement liquor store across the street (cash only). (3) Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. (4) DeVoss concert hall is an easy walk if you want to take in a performance. If you do, go to the will call window to purchase tickets without Ticketmaster processing fees. We enjoyed a nice symphony and tickets were only $18 per person purchased directly at the window. About my review: I base my reviews on actual experience not what could be. And I base my reviews on having travelled extensively having seen the spectrum from superb to dismal.

This location is fantastic!!! We booked 2 rooms last month for 3 days for a special event in the downtown area. The rooms were GORGEOUS. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Let me just say the valet attendants were so fun to watch from our room as they darted back and forth getting guest cars from the parking area. These gents are hard workers and so sweet. Check in and check out went very smoothly and our only complaint was that there were too many in our group to be able to book one of the adorable igloos with heaters inside for cocktail hour. Next time...next time. Great location, great staff, comfortable beds, prompt service across the board. Stay here!

Arrived Saturday midafternoon to check in and were sent to a trashed room that hadn't been cleaned yet ( hope those people tipped the poor housekeepers) went back down and the manager changed our rooms, up we went - to a room with an obstructed view of a brick wall, we had paid for a river view, so down we went. Same manager, zero customer service skills, she started huffing and puffing, because somehow filthy rooms and obstructed views must be our fault We came here because we always stay here, but several new hotels including some pretty boutique ones have recently been built in this area, time to branch out.

We have stayed in the JW in the past and had good experiences. However, I cannot that was the case on this trip. I made reservations in advance for a suite and a connecting room as our handicapped daughter cannot sleep on a couch or fold away bed due to back issue. Unfortunately there are no suites at the JW that have connecting rooms. We ended up with our daughter sleeping with us. The bed was terrible as well too firm and you could feel the individual springs. Needless to say, we have several nights of very poor sleep. The refrigerator in our room did not work nor did the sliding door to our bedroom. The menu options are limited in the main restaurant and we could only get our daughter a hamburger from room service. Also, my wife is a diabetic and there were no low carb options. Low carb/keto bread is very common these days and they could at least offer that option. Keto options work for diabetics. Having stayed at the Grand Bohemian in Greenville SC a few months ago (another Marriott property), I can tell you that the JW was nowhere near their quality of service. I was very disappointed this trip and we may even cut our trip short due to these issues.

As good as you can get for a hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nice Margaux French restaurant down in the lobby too. They got a nice gym as well. It's a good hotel for hosting a corporate event or special occasion.

Tagged along with my husband on a business trip. Loved the location next to the river and conveniently located downtown (while he works, I walk and adventure and this location was PERFECT for that). This might have been the nicest hotel bathroom I've had-deep tub-pretty artwork over the tub, separate shower, etc... We wanted/tried to sit out on the patio and have a drink, but the little black bugs were so bad we had to move inside (which was great, lovely bar area). Wish they had those little tabletop fans for that. Right across the river from the Ford Museum. A great place to stay and be able to walk everywhere.

I am sitting in my room on the ninth floor at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids. For the last three hours I am sitting in my room and all I can hear is the music being played from the lobby. Why the hell would they have an open atrium where you can hear music in your room from the lobby. If I wanted to hear the music in the lobby, I would go downstairs. It is the most annoying thing to be sitting in a room on the 9th floor listening to hotel lobby music that I find annoying. Whose bright idea is this! I won't be coming back!

The hotel is in a great location in downtown Grand Rapids. Appears to be "the hotel." It is starting to show its age. We did not realize out hotel stays was during Art Prize. This made the hotel overcrowded and staff were running. No room servicing was provided. If you needed supplies, you needed to call down for towles, toilet papers, and other things. Front Staff: It is hit and miss with who is working the front counter. Some are nicer than others. Occasionally, you could tell the stress of the staff. We had a nice young Asian lady that probably needs some days off. She was friendly, but she could be a bit short. Room: This is for Room 2204. This is a nice corner room with panoramic view with nice large windows. The windows were filthy, but at level 22, I can understand that. The view is very pretty of the water and you can see the Presidential Library. Having the windows makes up for the bad lighting in the room. The carpet is worn with spots. The bed was okay, but not as comfortable as other JW Marriott level. The pillows were so flat and needed to be thrown out. The in-room safe is motion sensing and was making all kinds of beeping noises when I walked by or when I touched it to see what was wrong. Only with it completely opened, did the irritating noise stop, but then completely opened it blocked the hallway. So we called maintenance, he was baffled. He ended up taking out the batteries which made the safe unusable. But at least, I did not have the horrible sound and beeping and flashing red light to endure. The in-room coffee is Mosaic. It was good. Room bathroom: nice soaking tub and nice large shower with an interesting double head. Decent Amway shampoo/conditioner provided to guests. The sink area is tiny. Pull out mirror with magnifying glass for applying your makeup, but the bathroom lighing is so BAD! Horrible shadows, too dark in general for applying makeup. I recommend to open the curtains and sit in front of the windows. Concierge Lounge: Surprising it was opened during COVID. It was a nice perk being able to get espresso coffee. The cappuccino portion did not work, but that was okay. Fridges were always stocked with water and other refreshments. The evening snacks were provided, but I did not feel comfortable eating anything that was left open with people walking around and talking with no masks on. The ladies that worked the lounge were very nice and provided great service. The mornings when I went for coffee, some of the tables were uncleaned from the night before. I was able to get a to-go snack in a pre-sealed bag of Ferris Nut trail mix... very delicious. On-site restaurants: Starbucks and a French restaurant named Margaux. Margaux gets crowded quickly and I highly recommend to make breakfast reservations if you want to be guaranteed a seat. We received free breakfast vouchers and still the last day we struggled to get a table. We had to order to go. Food rating will be in separate review. Gym, Pool, Jacuzzi : very small, but there was a treadmill. The second day, another treadmill was added to help with the number of people wanting the treadmill. There are free weights. Some weight machines. Just enough to get a decent workout. Nice small lap pool, but very shallow. The Jacuzzi was a bit shallow, if you are short it will be okay. The good thing is there are nice running trails outside the hotel if you prefer to go outside. The temperature was great in the morning. Tip: This hotel is a great location in downtown Grand Rapids, but the cost of Ubers are high to/from this location. For example, the rate for Uber versus local taxi from airport to be is different. The taxis from the airport charge $40. Uber was like $15 more than local taxi. Most points of interest, but the airport are within walking distance. Walk if you want to save money. THere are also rental scooters all over downtown, but I did not use these travel options.

I love this hotel it's super classy. The restaurant inside is yummy and has a great breakfast bar in the morning. Love the ambiance. I also really like the executive lounge was lovely to work remotely in it. Had access to snacks, appetizers, desserts etc. Great experience overall and beautiful views.

Awesome location, now for the rest. Rooms are outdated and in major need of updating. In room bathrooms were ok and updated enough. Marriott lounge was probably the second worst I have been at during my travels. It had poor food offerings or minimal at all. Their breakfast was danish toast and the coffee maker or drinks. This is unheard of at a Marriott member lounge for a breakfast. Honestly this hotel is not worth anywhere near the room price for the quality of the rooms and services. Valet and bellman. A conference, a homecoming and a city art fair and you have valet covering for you bellman because there weren't any and the valet was disorganized being nice. Just a three ring circus and not worth the money at any level. Wont return. Marriott titanium member

We ate at the Sunday Brunch buffet at the Margaux restaurant in the Marriot. We ordered off of the menu and had the buffet. They had a little trouble at first with the server doing more than possible but once that was settled somehow everything was fantastic. The service from then on was amazing, the food was awesome, especially the eggs. The omelet chef was truly great and there was not a thing on the buffet that was just average. It was all great. Eating out has gotten pretty expensive lately, and this was not worse than most places but when you get great food and service I will happily pay the price.

Excellent stay. We were impressed with the comfort of the accommodations and the friendliness and helpfulness of every staff member we encountered (valet & restaurant personnel get 5 stars). The room was fairly spacious and bed was comfortable. We had no issues with cleaning staff - they arrived when we were out with the exception of one day when we overslept but it was no problem as they returned later. The lounge is great with a variety of food selections. The highlight was the live musicians who performed Friday & Saturday. They really created a relaxing and fun atmosphere. Our waitress, Hannah, provided great and personable service. As for wheelchair accessibility, the height of the bed is somewhat high at 26 inches and is situated on a box instead of a frame which prevents the use of a patient lift. A beautiful roll in shower could have been made more accessible by widening of 1 or 2 feet which they had the room to do. The toilet can be approached from the front but only has 2 foot access from one side. These things did not present a problem for me but may present issues for others. We valet parked and found there was no ADA compliant curb cut leading to the hotel doors. These are some insights to be considered in terms of accessibility but would not prevent us from returning as it was a great stay.

I really like staying at this hotel. This is my second trip to Grand Rapids in which I've been able to stay at the JWM, and I look forward to doing so again. First of all, the hotel is in a great location surrounded by riverside walking paths and many great restaurant choices. The hotel staff is very professional and I've never experienced such a quick check-in process. Once in your room, you immediately realize that this Marriott is a step above. My room was spotless, the linens freshly pressed, and the amenities were impressive. First off, let's talk about the bathroom--no evidence of any water damage anywhere, which is exceedingly rare these days. The separate tub/shower were classily done, and the adjustable shower faucet gives you anything from a downpour waterfall to a pulsating lower back massage option. The water pressure is also impressive to say the least! I also appreciated the more adult-size soap bars as opposed to the ultra-mini soaps that are so common elsewhere. Finally, desk/business area has all of the plugs, USB, and any other types of computer hook ups you could want in a hotel room, and the TV was newer with a crisp HD picture. All in all, this is a great upscale hotel experience.

dangerous neighborhood. I will never step foot in this building again. The rooms furniture & decor were dated by at least 20 years. Ugly wood veneer. Weird pictures of Mexico. I overheard they will be redoing the hotel in the spring. All that has me thinking is 'how much are they going to charge for those renovated rooms?' We were upgraded to a river view, but couldn't really get a good look from the filthy windows. The remote barely worked, but who wants to watch a tv that makes you crane your neck sideways. The no name brand shampoo & conditioner fried my wife's hair into a crispy frizz. I physically went down to the front desk with our towels to get new ones. The woman told me they didn't have any? That same front desk woman said they would 'bring' the towels to the room. Housekeeping never brought the towels. But, housekeeping had time to knock on the door to see if I checked out? I think a robot would give better customer service. the coupon for starbucks breakfast was a relief, because at this point it was clear I didn't want anything to do with this place. Cody Dahlquist, a young man in his twenties, was beaten to death nearby recently. After our night out I thought of his death. There was no security. No police. But there were an abundant of scary looking people. As I made my way back after a night out, I was yelled at by a group of rough looking people. They were right across the street from the hotel! I have stayed at Marriott's all over the world and have never paid $320 (after $20 self parking fee) for such a lousy experience. Marriott needs to rethink allowing them to keep their JW moniker. The Marriott Fairfield Inn located just north in Walker, Michigan is brand new. For a lot less you can get a suite at the top and look down at the beautiful skyline of downtown GR.

I would leave 0 stars if I could. I lost my room keys and I asked front desk to give me a new key, which they did BUT NEVER DISABLED THE OLD KEYS. These same old keys were used to enter my room and my iPad was stolen from inside my bag. I don't know if the front desk agent is involved in some sort of theft ring, but the hotel showed no remorse or accountability nor was there any follow ups from Marriott or even a room change offered for my safety. I'm a Titanium Elite Bonvoy member and have never had such poor customer service from this brand. This hotel outsources their security to third party, AHC Hospitality (who also provide security to the Amway Hotel). I highly recommend staying elsewhere but if you MUST stay at least bringing portable travel door locks for your own safety since no else seems to care.

This is one of the nicer JW Marriott's I have had the pleasure to stay at. This modern hotel is located in Downtown Grand Rapids and situated right off the river. There is both valet and self parking and it is easily accessible from the expressway. The hotel has a very lively lobby and hopping bar. The restaurant, Six One Six, offers both fine dining and great takeout. The smaller bar is pretty cramped so you may need to get there early to claim your seat. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make my stay pleasurable. The executive lounge was very nice and offered some excellent desserts. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The views of the river are very nice and you can really get some work done at the desks. The bed and pillow were very comfortable and the room temp was perfect. The bathroom is also well sized and had a wonderful shower with a few heads on it. I got a great nights sleep here. Check out the JW Grand Rapids if you are in town and looking for an excellent place to stay the night!

Beautiful hotel. Best hotel in Grand Rapids if not the entire state. The Amway Grand Plaza has great restaurants and bars but its rooms are as nice, particularly the bathrooms. Super comfortable beds and nice amenities. Friendly staff. Great views. I will say that the Amway us a better fitness center. JW pool looked very nice, with a nice view as well.

This is a gorgeous hotel with great views of the river and nighttime city lights. There was nightly live music in the lobby. The lobby and housekeeping staff were superb. Although it was under repair while we were there, the bike path runs right past the hotel and can be taken to small towns north for a day trip. We had no difficulty connecting up with the path after a short jaunt through the city streets. Plenty of really good farm to table restaurants were within walking distance. The room was very clean with nightly turndown service. The decor was peaceful and fresh. The water pressure was good and it was quiet. A few things about the room that were disappointing, the bathroom scale didn't work, probably just needed a battery. The bathroom sink drained very slowly. There was a knob in the bathroom that didn't seem to operate anything, makes me wonder if it was broke. There was a room safe. Then there was the concierge lounge. It was a major disappointment for a JW. Cold breakfast only on Saturday morning. Then Sunday was supposed to be their special breakfast until 10:00. We got there at 9:45 and two of the three hot pans were empty and taken away. At 9:50, the employees started tearing everything down. Several others showed up after us and also had slim choices. The specialty coffee machine was placed in a corner of the U shaped service area. This was a popular option so those waiting to use it clogged the flow of the other beverages for the rest of us. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here, but next time we will seek out local restaurants for breakfast cuz there are SO many good ones.

I had a good stay at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids. This hotel like most in the downtown area was connected to other hotels which was cool. I wish there was a 24 hour mini market in the hotel, however, there was a convenience store across the street that stayed open past midnight. I would also note upon your arrival you'll be charged the cost of your stay plus incidental costs. Most hotels, I've stayed at have charged me the last day of my stay, so this did catch me off guard. I now know that this is a common practice for some hotels. All in all, a good stay!

First time my wife and I stayed here, and likely the last. Arrived around 3:30pm and tried to check in. Was told that they couldn't "pull up" our reservation after about 30 minutes of waiting, and eventually they just created a new reservation for us. A little annoying, but we figured it happens. We get to our room which has a beautiful view of the parking garage. Didn't we pay for a water view? I call to guest services and am greeted by a women who informs we that I can come down to the front desk, wait and that she'll "look for a room for us." She explicitly makes no guarantees about a room, even though we paid for the water view. I'm confused at this point. We head down to the front desk, where they inform us that we will actually get a water view, but the room isn't ready. At this point it's about 5pm. We wait for about 30-45 minutes for our room to be ready, and then finally they give us the correct room. At this point, we've lost about 3 hours of a 3 day trip and I'm dropping $300 a night to sit in the lobby waiting for a room. Not impressed. Interestingly, while sitting in the lobby, someone else complains that they were not given a water view. Seems to be a pattern. After a 3 hour flight (that was delayed a few hours, 2 hours driving from Detroit to Grand Rapids and then losing a few hours to this mess, we get dinner and go to bed. The next morning we get up and leave around 10am and return around 5pm to find that our room isn't cleaned and our trash wasn't taken. We have no new towels. We figure they'll take care of it the next morning. The following day we wake up around 10am and head out, and come back around 2pm. Room still isn't clean. Trash still isn't taken. We come downstairs on our way out and specifically ask that they clean our room. We return later in the evening (maybe 6pm) and the room still isn't clean, the trash is still there and we have no towels. Finally, we come down again and just ask for clean towels and them to take the trash. At this point, we've been here 3 days so eventually we'll need them to do something. When we return, there are new towels on the counter in the bathroom and trash has been taken, finally. I'm giving the hotel 3 stars because it's a pandemic and I'm sure staffing is difficult, but for the most expensive stay in Grand Rapids, I was left unimpressed. We'll definitely be staying down the street at the Amway next time.

I'm not sure if four stars is accurate. The hotel is conveniently located. Easy to find. We got off on the wrong foot with the valet parking. I have never had this much trouble finding a valet anywhere as I did here. I had to go inside the hotel looking for the valet service. I found no one. So I go back out, and have to ask a valet that did not appear to be busy at the moment. I was met with snark, and a comment about being really busy. I was told by the valet that my vehicle would be parked "right up front". I didn't ask for that. However, the manner in which it was said was a bit condescending. The room was clean and ample in size. Plenty of elbow room. A comfortable bed. A nice settee. Pleasant. Outstanding freaking shower. Instant hot water. Great water pressure. And a shower system to envy. Little to no counter space in the bathroom though. For my wife (and most ladies I'm sure) this was not ideal. We'd stay here again, certainly. Although I will self park and save the valet fee.

Great location downtown! From the valet to the concierge, the staff were friendly and ready to help us in anyway we needed. The rooms were nice and clean! If you are looking for a place to eat while visiting, try the butchers union! The front desk recommended it and we had the best dinner experience there. There is also a Starbucks on the first floor which was amazing when we needed to run out of the door early in the morning! We will be staying here again for sure!

My husband surprised me with a one night "staycation" at the JW this weekend. It was my first time staying here and I was VERY pleasantly surprised. First off, right when I walked in, the aroma of the lobby (and the entire hotel) was warm, sweet, and comforting! I don't know what kind of cleaners or scents/aromas they use there but it seriously smells amazing! Whatever the scent is, I want it bottled up so I can use it at my own home! The service was great- the front desk attendants were very kind and seemed to truly value our comfort. When we checked in, the woman who helped us told us that there was a corner room available that she upgraded us to at no extra charge, which was seriously an AMAZING upgrade- the water views were remarkable, and it was so cool to see the city from that perspective!) The bed and the sheets/comforter were so so cozy! I had such a great nights sleep! In the morning, I made my way to the eucalyptus steam room, which left me feeling refreshed and ready for the day! The pool/steam room area did have some issues unlocking at the correct time in the morning, but the front desk sent up security very quickly to unlock the door and correct the issue. Oh, and fun fact- the breakfast buffet at Margaux is a MUST! Such a great way to end a great stay at the JW.

This is quite the property for Grand Rapids. The moment you pull up you can tell. The lobby is oddly narrow but nice with the a massive bank of windows. Check in was fairly quick and easy even though it was buys with a few weddings clearly taking place that weekend. The room was quite nice. It was average in size, maybe slightly larger. The bed was quite comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and large. I did not spend a lot of time in the room, but it would be easy to do so. The staff was great whether it was the front desk or valet. The restaurant is under renovations so I did not get a chance to try it. I also did not make it up to the lounge. It is always a big plus to have one available though. They offer some nice cabanas out by the river. I did not have time to check them out but on a summer day I am sure they are great.

First time staying at this location. This hotel is located downtown. Close proximity to restaurants and lounges. For family activists it's a short walk to the museum. The view from the room is beautiful. With floor to ceiling glass windows looking over the river. Check-in was easy as I m a Marriott Rewards Member. The gym is a normal size hotel gym and not that crowded at (5:00pm).The reason for three stars is because I found left- over food underneath the nightstand. House keeping should do a better job at cleaning those hidden spaces.

I would have given this a 5 star rating but it seems like when I visit, more often things are broken in the room. I now make it a habit to test the Keurig when I get in the room. Nothing worse than trying to make coffee and you find the coffee maker broken. This has happened on multiple occasions. Then you wait for room service for your coffee and it takes more than 30 minutes (I'm still waiting for my coffee so I really can't tell you the exact time it takes). I'm sorry for a 4 star hotel, you really shouldn't have these issues. What has happened? Addendum. Staff was very nice and apologetic, however I doubt that this problem will get addressed on the local level. I'm sure they are given the orders from higher up whether or not they have the funds to replace all defective devices. Probably just easier and more economic to apologize and give free pot of coffee each time this happens. I've been a loyal Marriott customer, but I may have to branch out and try other hotels.

Pros: lovely views, great location, attentive and friendly staff, excellent lobby bar, bathrooms are very nice especially the shower. Dang. I had one plush stay here. From the valet guys at the door to the front desk staff that checked me in/out and everything in between the service was top notch. The hotel itself is pretty huge. I believe it's about 22/23 floors high and beautiful. I stayed in a corner room on the 5th floor and it was massive. Huge floor to ceiling windows gave me mostly a view of the parking garage (I didn't splurge for a room with a view) but the right side of the room and the side window gave me a lovely view of the river and the bridge. My room had an incredibly comfy king sized bed, a chaise lounge in the corner, a desk with plenty of plugins and hook ups, a TV, a mini fridge, and a beautiful bathroom with a huge tub and separate shower. It was very snazzy and I was incredibly comfortable the entire time. Standard wifi is free but if you need a lot of data/speed you can upgrade for a cost. I found the standard to be perfect for my needs--surfing, emailing, watching the occasional youtube clip, etc. I got in early for the evening and decided to check out the fitness center and pool area. Also very nice! The fitness area had a number of machines, including weight machines. Most hotels I visit have only a few machines and free weights. This one was super stacked. Plus complimentary fruit, water, headphones, and jogging maps of the area. The pool was gorgeous. I was the only one in there and the water looked like glass. Very clean. I spent most of my time in the hot tub which was more like a whirlpool bath, really. The heat was there but the jets were a bit weak for these chronically stiff/sore muscles. Still nice for a soak though! There were also two steam rooms--one with eucalyptus and one without. I tried the former first and it was intense scent wise (although it did clear up my sinuses!) and moved to the latter after. Location is fantastic, walking distance to a lot of great places downtown like the arena and art museum. Valet is available as well as self park if you need to go out a bit further. Prices can run a bit higher but you get what you pay for and can find a deal occasionally. Hoping I get to visit again on my next stay in Grand Rapids!

We love this elegant hotel in the heart of Grand Rapids. With two of our kids living here, we visit this town quite often and love to stay here when we do. Grand Rapids is a fun walking city and the JW is in the heart of it. Service is top notch and all of the facilities are always clean and in tip top shape. The only downside is no pets (which is not surprising considering the high end facilities), and the only reason we would stay any place else.

Booked a fantastic room here for NYE and received complimentary parking and tickets to the New Years ball. We had a great time and no issues with the room and amenities. The room had a beautiful view of the city from the 15th floor. You could see the entire city of Grand Rapids from here. My only complain would be the receptionists, when we came up to the counter I found them to be generally rude and odd to interact with. Asking unrelated questions to getting checked in. I suppose I would expect more from people working in the hospitality industry as well as more from this hotel. The valet guys were great, and more helpful than the front desk, oddly enough.

My friend Michele D. had previously recommended the JW Marriott to me - so I was interested to see what the experience would be like. I stayed for two nights for some business meetings. My room overlooked the Grand River on the 13th floor. I had a spacious room, with free internet access, flat panel HD TV, a clean, comfortable room, work desk, reading chair, refrigerator, coffee maker, and a very cool bathroom with separate bathtub and shower. The hotel staff was friendly and responsive. I will ding the hotel for three items - however, these are not enough to dilute the 5 star rating I am giving them: (1) The outsides of the windows of my room facing the Grand River - were incredibly filthy. There were a lot of insect bodies and web/cobweb debris on the windows. As a fly fisherman, I suspect the close proximity to the Grand River may expose the hotel windows to some insect hatches; (2) Very few HD channels available on the HD TV. Standard def programming looks like ass on an HD TV; (3) The elevator lobby of each floor is open to a space that goes all the way down to the lobby level. On a Wednesday evening their was some sort of Jazz artists singing and playing in the Lobby Lounge. The acoustics of the elevator lobby allow that music to rise all the way up to the upper levels of the hotel. On the 13th floor, down the hall, I was hearing this music - that sounded like it was like a party in someone's room down the hall. I ended up going down to the bar for a beer, and asked the bartender when the noise was going to end. He did not know, but checked. Fortunately they were ending the music at 10:00 pm. Apparently a number of other hotel customers had also complained about the noise making it up to their rooms. The hotel has a nice bar and lounge named "Mixology," a restaurant named "Six to Six," a hotel convenience store named "JW Marketplace," and a Starbucks. I'd definitely stay here again!

This place never ceases to amaze. We have stayed here many times. The room is always clean. The beds are so comfortable. I love the shower and the tub. The soaps smell great too- love that citrus scent! There is a movie channel if you want to watch the latest movies , and the views are wonderful. I usually get the riverside view. So nice to see the cityscape at night! The food is great, and room service is quick! This is also a great place celebrate New Years! Of course, being on the top floor and looking over the glass railing down into the lobby scares the bejesus out of me, but you must do it- it's there specifically for that reason :) I'm torn about the music is the lobby....it's an upbeat, sexy techno clubish style groove....sometimes it makes me feel sexy and cool, and sometimes I feel like I'm too old to be there....hmmm... I guess I am middle aged (41), so that's probably normal? Lol... Oh! The spa is awesome! My daughter and I stayed here after a Michael Buble concert, and treated ourselves to a massage. Looooooved it. Get one! You will love it too. The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing massage, and the rates aren't crazy.

Great stay. One of the better JW Marriotts. Staff was awesome (I believe I had Chanel) and worked to get everyone situated while still being very friendly and attentive. Room was cleaned very well, and when I got back from dinner I had a tray full of chocolates and the next day's forecast. Room had a coffee machine, and bathroom was very spacious. Only wish the room had a minibar. As a titanium member, I had access to the concierge lounge. I wouldn't say it is worth to add it on if you don't have it, however there were some nice drinks and small desserts. Great stay, great staff, would recommend.
