21 Best Family Resorts in Florida, According to Locals
View Postcard for JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa
@cntraveler

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? Though you’re just 12 miles north of Miami and a less than 10-minute walk from the popular Aventura Mall, pulling into this resort feels like you’ve landed on a tropical island (albeit one without a beach). Spread out over 300 lush acres, with a century-old banyan tree at its center, the resort basically is an island oasis unto itself, complete with golf courses, a water park, extensive gardens, and Mediterranean-inspired architecture. The main thing that reminds you that you’re still in an urban hub, though, are the crowds; given that the facilities are also open to non-hotel guests, sometimes there can even be a traffic jam at the resort’s entrance. What's the backstory? As the story goes, the resort’s roots go back to 1967, when real estate developer Donald Soffer drew his vision for an upscale residential enclave on the back of a cocktail napkin. Starting first with a country club and then adding more planned developments, Soffer and his partners then transformed nearly 800 acres of swampland into what’s now Aventura. These days, the resort is also an integral part of the development, which Donald’s son now helps manage. Tell us about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The 685 accommodations are spread out over four towers, and range from standard rooms to 2,400-square-foot suites. All have furnished balconies or terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows, that have views of the ocean, the pools, the golf courses, or the Aventura skyline. The muted, uncluttered décor isn’t bursting with personality, but marble bathrooms add a touch of glamour (some even have jetted or whirlpool tubs), and things like internet-connected TVs, sofa beds (available in most of the categories), and kitchens complete with ovens and dishwashers (found in some suites) are useful for families. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? WiFi is complimentary both in the rooms and throughout the resort (but then again, you are paying a resort fee). Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? Grab breakfasts and lunches crafted with regionally sourced products at Corsair Kitchen & Bar (try to snag a table on the terrace), or dig into steak, seafood, and the 1,000 bottle-strong wine list at Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina. There are also a couple of casual, al fresco dining options around the pool and cabanas, a market-style spot for grab-and-go and deli-style options, a Starbucks, and a cocktail-forward lobby bar. And the service? Given the number of rooms, the extensive facilities, and the fact that non-hotel guests can access the restaurants, golf courses, and pools (the latter with day passes), service can be inconsistent and the crowds large, depending on the time of year. What type of travelers will you find here? Families, golfers, and Marriott loyalty points users. The resort is also a popular staycation spot for South Florida residents. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? The shops and restaurants of the Aventura Mall are just a seven-minute walk away. Miami is a dozen miles down the road, you're not far from spots like Marlins Park Stadium and Zoo Miami. Activities like boating, jet-skiing, snorkeling, kayaking, and mountain biking can all be enjoyed within a five-mile radius. But most guests tend to stay put at the resort, as they’ve come for the on-site attractions. Is there anything you'd change? Jostling for a poolside lounger can be an issue in the best of circumstances, but with the resort’s pools and on-site water park also open to day-pass guests (and no priorities given to hotel guests), it can be a particular issue here. Best to book a cabana—available for an extra fee—to ensure you’ve got a private spot. Any other hotel features worth noting? Room rates include admission to the Tidal Cove Waterpark, which features aquatic fun like a lazy river, kids cove, seven water slides, and an area for FlowRider lessons. The resort does have an adults-only pool, too; it’s not all that less crowded, but you can find some quiet in one of the 25 cabanas available to book (for an additional fee). Golfers come for the two renowned 18-hole championship courses, both originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and the site of numerous PGA tournaments, while the three-story wellness area features a huge gym, a center for integrative and holistic medicine, fitness programs, and a spa offering Babor treatments and Himalayan salt rooms. Shuttles ferry guests to the beach about two miles away. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? A convenient getaway that keeps kids, adults, and golfers entertained. Particularly worth it if you’ve got Marriott points to spend, as all the extras, from resort fees to activity charges, can add up." - Sandra Ramani

10/10 experience staff was lovely and very helpful when we needed it. The grounds are stunning felt like saw something new each day. Even was the bartender by the adult pool he made our time so fun and enjoyable!!! The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. the views out of the room were stunning as well!! Conference rooms were large and stunning. We went to the steak house and we felt so special and food was delicious

I have mixed feelings about our stay. For the price of almost $1000 for two nights I feel like the hotel is still trying to make a quick buck once you’re there. I really hated the mini fridge sensor situation… the mini fridge is stocked, with as you can expect very over-priced options, with absolutely no room for even a bottle of water and a policy of if you move anything for more than 20 seconds you will be charged for it. We checked in online as Bonvoy members and got access to our room key through the app. Luckily a staff member saw us looking for our room and informed us we still needed to go to the desk for our water park passes. We did, the girl gave us a map, a water park ticket and we thought all was good. Come check out day and our friends had checked out the day before trying to use their room key to exit their self parking only to find out that they owed $75 instead of the $45 the website and reservation listed as the fee for self parking. They were told it was because they checked out in the app and their room key was no longer valid. To avoid the same situation after we stayed an extra night I waited in the long line to make sure I checked out in person and still had access to the nightly rate promised in my reservation. I was informed that because I didn’t specify that I self parked when I checked in, I would need to pay the hourly rate and they would not honor the nightly rate because she “couldn’t tell” what I “had done with my car since you parked it” and that it was too late to add it at that point. Thankfully I found the parking manager and explained the situation, she went to the desk and lo and behold they were able to add it to my reservation as a nightly rate 😑 On the other side Tidal cover staff was outstanding, very friendly and approachable. Restaurant staff in the actual hotel was nice if not spread thin.

We stayed at the JW Marriott Turnberry for a quick two-night stay before our cruise out of Miami. Our visit happened to fall during what some refer to as the “Jewish Takeover” week. While that didn’t bother us, it did lead to some noticeable changes at the property—electronic doors were propped open, elevator operators were present, and other accommodations were made for the group. It was a bit quirky, but not a major issue for us.||The main reason we chose this resort was for the waterpark, hoping our kids would have a blast. While they enjoyed it, the water was incredibly cold—too cold for me to join in, which was disappointing. I typically love a lazy river, but I couldn’t enjoy it at all.||We visited the waterpark on our first day, and unfortunately, we had a frustrating encounter with a security guard who insisted we had to pay for access. I showed him documentation stating that wristbands were included with our stay, but he continued to argue. Thankfully, another staff member eventually stepped in and confirmed it was included in the resort fee. Still, the situation could’ve been handled more professionally.||The food at the waterpark’s Freestyle restaurant was extremely poor—honestly not edible. I wouldn’t recommend it.||On the bright side, we had two great dinners at Corsair, the sit-down restaurant off the lobby. We sat outside both nights and enjoyed lovely meals in a beautiful setting. We also had breakfast there one morning. Oddly, while a sign outside advertised a high-end breakfast buffet, there was no buffet available during our visit.||Overall:|We had a decent experience and appreciated many aspects of the resort, but the waterpark—the main reason for our visit—was a letdown. I would have rated our stay higher if the water had been heated and the food at Freestyle was better.||Suggestions for the Resort:|Offer early access to the waterpark for resort guests|Improve the food quality at Freestyle|Consider heating the water at the waterpark for year-round enjoyment

Stayed for 2 nights. First thing is they charge parking fee of 45 a night (unless you have handicap place card) plus resort fees. They also have incidental fee of $200 a night as well. The water park tickets are included with your booking however if the water park is closed for a private event you won’t know till you get to it. At the park says it closes at 7 however by 630 the only thing you can do is get in the big pool everything else is shutoff. The pool in the hotel itself also closes at 7. Its overall cleanliness was great. The room has oh boy apparently they have issues with the ac system all the time as said to me by 3 different maintenance people. I had to call front desk around 12am to let them know it was hot in the room despite the temp being at the lowest the thermostat went 65. They sent someone to check I was correct temp stated 72. “They fixed it” but then again at 3 am I woke up out of my sleep sweating they sent someone again and turn it off and on again and told me they couldn’t even switch my room because of how late in the night it was. I was reimbursed resort fees but I definitely will not be booking again.

Couples weekend last week, end of May, my wife was at an event held for 3 days in the ballroom. Overall, the place is really nice, I woud not say it was luxurious but definitly on the upscale side of things.||Before I talk about the golf course, I will say that the room was spacious and clean. There is a water park attached to the property that attracts a whole lot of families with kids so be warned. I did not use the spa, but the gym at the spa (which is a walk outside BTW) is big and well appointed if a bit cluttered. Hotel has an adult pool, tho no hot tub.||My one glaring negative about the hotel, although overall service was good, we called for a bellhop to come get our bags twice at checkout and they never came. When I got down to the lobby I could see why ... the place is a zoo around checkout time. Mind you this was Memorial weekend, so a busy weekend, but there was no service to be had, the valets and the bellfolk were running around. In the end we hauled our own bags after waiting over an hour.||The golf course consists of two courses, the Miller and the Soffer courses. The pro shop recommended the Soffer course saying that that Miller course was in rough shape and from what I could see it looked really bad ... dead and bare. The driving range looked bad too, but it was off of mats anyway. Chipping area minimal. Nice putting green. The Soffer course was overall nice, layout good, condition was OK, some fairway damage but overall not bad, nice water feature on first hole, we played in under 4 hours, greens ran well, average speed. Still, someone in the golf department should have to answer for the overall running of the operation: improve course conditions, up the practice area and improve service. Service in the golf area was OK, but not like a private club where someone sees you carrying your bag to the carts and offers to take it for you if you get my drift... my guess, they are a little short staffed or at least I will give the staff the benefit of the doubt. PS here, I needed to buy a hat ... price for the logo hat was $90, I kid you not.||Anyway, there is a lot here at the resort. It definitely has a lot of potential and it is not bad. But ... like most things, expectations are high when you carry the "JW" brand. Maybe if they just called it a Marriott it would have met my expectations.

The JW Marriott Turnberry Resort is truly a gem—elegant, relaxing, and surprisingly family-friendly. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted with top-tier service and beautiful surroundings. The spacious and refined rooms offer a perfect retreat after a fun-filled day. But what sets this resort apart is Tidal Cove, the on-site water park. It’s not just for kids—this place is a hit for all ages. With everything from thrilling water slides to a lazy river and surf simulator, it strikes the perfect balance of excitement and relaxation. It’s rare to find a high-end resort that goes out of its way to make families feel just as pampered as couples or business travelers, but Turnberry nails it. We loved the poolside service, lush landscaping, and how seamlessly the resort blends five-star comfort with playful energy. Whether you’re here for a romantic escape or a family getaway, this resort delivers in every way.

The water slides were thrilling. Jeff was constantly checking on us to ensure we had a great time. Our Drinks were always full. My baby loved this place and especially the giant ice cream cone of water. Great pizza . Can’t wait to come back. 5 star service .

Overall we really enjoyed our stay but there were a couple things that could have gone better. I was nervous about the bad reviews, but overall am happy we stayed there! I would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. The good - The water park was fantastic for our 2 kids (3 and 6) and they had a great time in the pools and on the slides. They want to go back and we just left! The water was warm and the options that suit all different ages of kids were great! The rooms are very very spacious and luxurious. The beds are really comfortable. Housekeeping did a great job. Room service and food in general was delicious and really good! The OK - Service was mixed - some was fantastic and some was just ok. At the pool side restaurant I was annoyed that I was handed a non-itemized bill without the service charge listed out with a gratuity line item - I asked and they confirmed but that’s kind of sketchy. Weren’t great about answering the phones. We had a couple odd maintenance issues (the door handle fell off our door and the toilet didn’t work at first). Both things were fixed relatively quickly and all was fine.

Yelp
Such a great sunny, Saturday spent at Tidal Cove! My family and I enjoyed our day at the water park. Thanks to Cesar, Fonzi and Jeff, that made our visit even more pleasant. All very energetic and genuinely wanting to assist.

Yelp
Ok after finally getting the room, a presidential suite it's an absolutely awesome room with 4 balconies and even a high end kitchen. So I am giving the room an excellent rating. The breakfast for Titanium Elite is fantastic. The pastry chief knows how to create excellent tasting pastries. The view from the highest floor is amazing. So the only issue I had and I had forgotten this was memorial day weekend was it took a while to get a room.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE! Wow, I thought I was being smart by booking a room here for 2 nights prior to leaving for a cruise. Lesson learned, NEVER stay here! Do not give any money to Florida either! First, I will start with the positives...the room was very nice! I cannot say anything bad about it. The food at the Corsair restaurant was also very good! That wraps up positives. Negatives: STAFF! Other guests! I had pre-paid for my room. When I checked in, they saw that and asked for a CC for anything extra I might charge, no problem! Once I checked out and boarded my cruise, I saw that they charged me again for my room. Annoying, but that happens right? So I called them and spoke to a VERY RUDE woman named Donna. Told her what happened and she gave me the company line "Let me find my boss and see what happened?" Sure Donna. So I told her no, I will wait, I don't trust you guys. No response, just on hold. Waiting 10 minutes on hold, she came back on, located her boss but he is busy with another client...great, I will wait. "Whatever" on hold again. Long story short, the did remove the charge. No apology, no "im so sorry sir, we will make this right". It was annoyed Donna and her crap attitude. If I was her boss, she would be looking for a new job! Other guests. Never been around any cubans before but was warned before I arrived that not only are the cubans pretentious pricks, but Florida as a whole is quite rude. That was 100% on the money! Never met so many uptight, FAKE, credit card maxed out morons on my life. Fortunately for me, I don't get intimidated, so was happy to engage face to face with some of these scum bags. Felt gooooooood! In the end, will never go to this hotel and NEVER Florida either. All the rumors are true. You can keep that dump all to yourselves!

Yelp
This resort is excellent for any kind of event ,wedding or conference that you may be previewing. The resort is beautiful and very large. Very clean and great service.

Daniella S.

Yelp
Staying at the JW Marriott Turnberry, I asked for ice at the pool because the heat was unbearable, and he didn't hesitate to bring it! Thanks, Steven, for going the extra mile with me.

Apple S.

Yelp
You'd think this is a 5 star resort. However, if you can't have your AC working decently that will affect your rating a lot being in south Florida. So before I get in to the rest: the AC was not good! It was insanely cold like a freezer then it would get really hot and then cold again. Even the AC wouldn't be touched and kept at the same temperature that's just what it did, h. I slept very bad because of this. What also affected my sleep was the bed but that's personal: very soft mattress. I'm a stomach sleeper and I like it firm. Large selection of pillows I did appreciate. Also the black out curtains made it super dark which I need, The resort was gorgeous. It's very large and a lot of it is convention center space. The pool is beautiful!!Parking is convenient and costs $45 overnight. The rooms are super spacious!! With a beautiful balcony with seating. The bathroom has marble and all the things you expect in a JW including bidet. I was very happy to wear the soft luxury robe available to use because the AC issues. There's a las vegas style minibar. Love! The room service was excellent!! Fast and delicious! The greek salad was yummmm, side of fries so big I could never finish that and there was complimentary bread buns with butter. Drinks were made so well with nice garnish! It was very quiet! I did not hear a thing here! Favorite part about staying here was waterpark Tidal Cove!!!!!!

Yelp
This review is only for the conference portion of the hotel - I was here for the last two days for a conference, but unfortunately wasn't staying at the hotel. The conference area is huge but everything was nice. Breakfast and lunch were provided, and varied greatly each day (a good thing; I often go to conferences where the food is the same at every meal). Yesterday we had an Asian buffet for lunch and today it was hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken. There were bathrooms throughout the conference area and they usually were clean. I would have loved to have stayed at the resort as well because it looked really nice, our closing party today was in the second pool area (Tidal Cove) but perhaps next year. I believe it's pretty expensive though, I think our conference rate was $350 per night.

Theodore N.

Yelp
-Room was ok but overpriced. - breakfast buffet good but expensive. - tidal cove was cool but too much security hassle just to get in - soffer golf course was in good condition but very expensive. It was empty and there was no other golfers playing. The miller course was in terrible condition so we played soffer twice.

Yelp
One of our favourite hotels to stay at. Our room was always clean, fresh towels and fresh amenities. The hotel has nice breakfast area with large buffet, lots of options and fresh made omelettes. You can enjoy your breakfast, sit in the outside patio and enjoy the beautiful view. They have few pools right downstairs including the Tide Cave with lots of slides for big and small ones. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. The only minus was trying to reach someone at the front desk. It always took as long time for someone to pick up the phone, easier go downstairs and ask yourself. The parking is expensive - 40$ per night. But it's such a great location, steps away from Aventura mall, grocery stores and even Total Wine.

Yogi R.

Yelp
The grounds are immaculate. We came for our corporate Sales Conference. The buffet style food quality all weekend was sub par. The food was very bland and had not taste to it. The meats were mostly dry and hard to chew. The hotel is built on very basic construction. Jasmine Room 1607 is where we stayed. I could hear my neighbors on the phone every morning and when someone with a deep voice is speaking in the next room's bathroom, it echoes into my bathroom and it sounds like we have a stranger in our room. I can hear the folks upstairs walking on their floor and the floor squeaking at times. I could hardly sleep at night! The bathroom right side sink clogs easily and takes a long time to drain. Check it out. The sill of the shower is slanted the wrong way. The seal of the glass door does not meet the sill so when you shower, the water goes onto the sill and onto the floor. Since the floor is uneven, the water starts to move further from the shower which causes a slipping hazard. Go check it out. We had to use our bath towels after use, to place on the floor so it soaked up the water and so we didn't slip. The staff is very nice, but I suggest your maintenance person take charge and fix these issues and also train your housekeepers to check certain things when they clean the rooms. Definitely the worst JW Marriott I stayed at when it comes to the room quality. But the property itself is gorgeous offering a very colonial yet tropical feel to it. I can see why this hotel is mainly rated 3 Stars!

Dorothea P.

Yelp
This hotel is the ideal place for a work conference. This is my second time attending a conference on this property but I was able to actually spend 3 nights here from Sunday to Wednesday. I arrived close to 4:30 PM on Sunday and I was able to get a room and check in right away. There was a welcome party at Tidal cove the first night. The location was big and the decorations were nice. They set up three different bars and also had 3 differnt buffet stations and a dessert bar. The next couple of days we were in the conference rooms. The only thing that you have to account for is that it is a long walk to the conference room. I would safely give myself 10 mins to walk across the property. While at the conference the hotel provided the breakfast and the lunch. It was always fresh and delicious and they had different options every single day. The reason that I would give it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the housekeeping. The way that the conference worked was that we would have a full at day at the conference until 3:30 - 4:00PM. I would head up to my room and it was not made yet. We had to get ready and we would leave again at 6PM. That was the only downtime we had thoughout the day, what sucked was that houskeeping would come to clean the room during that time. Overall, I think this place is awesome for a family with young kids and it was great for a conference.

Sherman K.

Yelp
Very nice hotel. The room was spacious and clean; the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. There is a water park on site that was included with the stay; but I believe the prices was pretty high to use if you weren't staying there. The hotel bar was very nice too. There are two restaurants on property, but you'll need to travel off property if you want something different.

Matthew B.

Yelp
Fantastic resort! I came here for a work conference and can not say enough good things about the grounds, staff, and accommodations! The room was great and the view was gorgeous! There are multiple food and beverage outlets to wet your whistle. During downtown there is a beautiful golf course, amazing water park and multiple pool. I would 100% recommend this resort!

Naomi D.

Yelp
We are here now. We literally chose this resort for the flowrider feature of the water park. The want an extra $155 for 30 minutes for my two kids to do the stand up version. Unbelievable and was not in any of the fine print I read. The water park staff bicker over who has to attend to the clients- in front of us!! Also we are 8 people and they didn't have our second room available till after 9pm. They offered us a room on a different floor or a 1 bed room with a rollaway. Not what I had in mind for this family trip.

Mara B.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of visiting JW Marriott Turnberry Resort and Spa, and I can't say enough about the exceptional service I received from Norma. Her professionalism and attention to detail was absolutely great. Norma's exceptional customer service and dedication to making each guest feel special is truly remarkable. I would highly recommend her. On behalf of Sebastian Malo, Pines Ford Lincoln President

Laura C.

Yelp
Great hotel and property! Tidal Cove is also a lot of fun! The restaurant Corsair was great. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Roy B.

Yelp
An incredible resort that really shines with beautiful amenities and a stellar help staff. Gorgeous grounds surrounded by a world class golf course, this hotel resort is an absolute delight when visiting the area. The connected water park- is a hit with the kids and the service inside matches that of the hotel staff. Attentive and kind, these people know how to make you feel welcomed and thoughtfully check on your party to make sure that your stay is enjoyable. Restaurants are beautiful and the food is delicious. We had breakfast included with our stay and the breakfast options were perfect from custom omelets and fresh fruit, you can really start your day off properly. Rooms are gorgeous and spacious our had a double wide balcony overlooking the pool. Clean and bright by day with excellent blackout curtains by night- we rested completely each evening. I cannot recommend this resort highly enough.

Andrea R.

Yelp
They did a fabulous job with the renovation here since my last visit and it may just be the most perfect hotel for kids. Take your kids here and there's a good chance you won't see them for hours w/ all the fun at Tidal Cove - water slides, flow rider, lazy river, large pool and a splash pad for those like my youngest who aren't brave enough for the waterslides quite yet. My kids begged me to go on a "calm" waterslide with them, which they claimed was the green and white slide. I quickly realized seconds into the slide that they were liars and this was basically a roller coaster waterslide, but have to admit it was pretty fun. I later learned that the blue tube slide is more my speed, Those were the only 2 I tried, but the others looked fun too! It's quite a workout getting your tube up all those stairs to the top of the slides, but then you don't have to feel so bad about the pina colada after. The flow rider was also a big hit once my kids got the hang of it and the staff could not have been nicer and more patient. I had almost canceled my reservation because I heard the lines were insane here over the holidays. We were there at the very end of our break and the resort said it was calmer than it had been. While it was definitely crowded, the lines for the slides weren't long and we were able to find lounge chairs easily...and we moved from area to area with no problem. Food and drinks also came out relatively fast and my kids loved the snack shop filled with cereal donuts and other crap. We had at Corsair for dinner and breakfast. Dinner was fine- the food was ok and the service was very slow. Breakfast was better and my kids really enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There was a line to be seated so get there early for breakfast. And an even longer line for Starbucks, which unfortunately doesn't offer mobile ordering. I also enjoyed a lovely run around the resort (around 3 miles). We didn't get to explore Aventura much during our trip there, but the mall is conveniently located across the street which is a good activity for cold or rainy days. Fortunately for us we had perfect January weather (sunny and high 70s) so no need to be inside. Our rooms were lovely with a beautiful view of the golf course from the balconies. Connecting rooms were perfect for our family of 5. We had stayed in a suite at the Ritz Tiburon in Naples the week before and everyone agreed this set up was way better. You can hear everything from the rooms and there was. rowdy group outside, but fortunately the quieted down when it was time for my kids to go to bed. It was the perfect quick getaway from my parents house in Boca and something we may try to do during our annual trips there. A friend mentioned she had been there for 8 days, which felt too long. I personally think a long weekend here would be ideal

Yelp
Visited Turnberry Resort in Spring 2023 for a 5 day stay during Spring Break. Upon arrival there were lots of cars waiting. The resort valet staff efficiently coordinated the guests and vehicles. There's a paid parking garage within a short walking distance to the resort entrance. Always friendly doorman to daily open the entrance doors. It was expansive but it was never crowded in resort. There were lots of people at Tidal Cove. I've included a resort map. Aventura Mall is within 15 minutes. The luxury resort offers several restaurants, 2 championship golf courses, full service spa, lazy riser, private luxury cabanas, Tidal Cove water park with complimentary access for resort guests and a single day resort member access option, etc. I ordered room service a couple of nights and enjoyed the adventures in Miami. This is a well designed luxury resort.

Yelp
Beautiful Hotel, but RUDE bartender!! I am in town for the Orange Bowl and I came to the bar to have a drink. After exchanging, what I thought were, pleasantries, I was informed by the bartender, that "Women should not have opinions about sports"... As a sports fan, I am used to having people disagree with me and the love I have for certain teams, but I did not know that I had to spend over $400 a night and $25 on an overpriced and might I add poorly made cocktail to have sexism blatantly thrown in my face. So thanks to Evan the bartender for reminding me that misogyny is alive and well...

Yelp
Pretty close to perfect...mostly... but.. I just hate arbitrary rules for rules sake. The "adults only pool" with posted sign "no lifeguard" closes at sunset. Sunset? It's freaking beautiful at sunset and we are adults after all? We got hustled out before dark, they locked up all the towels so we had to drip dry. Really? The restaurants were great, the rooms lovely and quiet, the poolside bar had excellent service ( in the day ) and played perfect Latin jazz all afternoon. It was dreamy until the 9pm curfew. Lighten up already, it's a damn vacation spot.

Yelp
I have nothing nice to say about this place. Read the reviews and factor in the worst because it's all true. If you like nothing but apologies and no action, stay here. Staff will screw up your entire stay and management will apologize, swear to correct it, then allow more mistakes to follow. I booked a junior suite on my Amex Platinum through Amex travel. After reserving through Amex I called the hotel VIP services to discuss a very special birthday for my husband, a local doctor. I was assured that he would be treated very well upon his arrival and that we'd have a great room upgrade on a high floor. Lower floors are subject to the golf course lawn mowers at 6 am and then tee time at 7:30 am, which you hear everything in the lower floors. We were given the 4th floor. The welcome package of food, Prosecco, and happy birthday balloons was not in the room at check in and did not come until I called management 4 times. 6-7 hours after the scheduled delivery time the tray of food and Prosecco appeared. No balloons. No previously discussed fanfare for my husband bday as arranged. That night at dinner we were treated like a gay couple in a restaurant staffed by conservatives. Very unwelcoming. The hostess gave us much attitude. She sat us in the middle of the dining room where I was facing directly into the eyes of the heterosexual couple at the table 3 feet away. I asked for a manager. The manager came with a smirk on his face like a character from Batman, moved our table, and did ensure we had a great sever but the damage had already been done. My husband and I felt gross and like the staff were looking down on us the entire night. Dinner was almost $600 for two people. The food was good but we left feeling embarrassed. The next day (Sunday) we were awoken at 6 am by the golf course mowers. I was very upset because when I'm home I have to wake up early for our kids and I really needed a chance to sleep in. Then at 7:30 began the chipping of the golfers tee-ing off. I specifically arranged with VIP to not have this exposure as I had read the reviews online prior to booking. I was completely disregarded. We went down to our $100 breakfast buffet at Corsair, which was included in my room booking. Buyer beware- if you're booking the room with the free breakfast save yourself the money. I found comparable room rates for far less than Amex points booked me and I realize it's that bloody omelette station with dried bacon they push as a buffet. Cheesecake Factory is a block away and has a far superior weekend breakfast sampling for far less money. The AC vents in Corsair were leaking condensation all over the floor along the middle of the dining area and several seats, including one at our table, were stained with spots from this happening for longer than this day. I told the server who said thank you and did nothing about it. When we left there was still water puddled on the floor along the food service area. That day we did the water park. It was very nice. That night I found myself at Bourbon Steak at 9:25 asking for a spot at the bar to order a quick steak and lobster. The snotty girl at the hostess stand said they were about to stop serving and I could not enter. I said I am staying in the hotel and just want a steak. She said she was sorry and turned me away. I went to concierge to ask for a manager and was told that she could nothing about the restaurant. She suggested in-room dining. In-room dining where the menu is limited, costs a fortune, and takes hours to arrive only to find they have forgotten something from your order. I got to the room and called for a manager. I was given in-room dining where a gentleman said he would expedite my order. I ordered conch fritters, steak, asparagus. Moments later I received a call back that they were out of conch fritters. I cancelled the order and have vowed to never use a Marriott hotel again. Folks, one or two hiccups I understand but this stay has been a ****show from the moment we checked in. At every corner this hotel has a chance to put their best foot forward, they failed to do so. I suggest you read the reviews, value the input from seasoned travelers, and choose any other hotel in the area. We have plenty of 5 star hotel options in this very area, why settle for a 3 star where you pay 5 star prices? My room was a junior suite, golf course view at $550 per night. We spent $600 for dinner at Bourbon Steak (for 2 - dinner and 2 cocktails each), $100 for buffet breakfast for 2 the next morning after being woken up at 6 am on a Sunday, $500 at the pool for food and beverage the next day, and could not get dinner at 9:25 pm because the snotty girl was gatekeeping dinner for a patron staying at the hotel.

Yelp
Our welcome to the hotel was a 30 minute line to check in which according to the staff is a regular item. The breakfast buffet was so so and priced outrageously. The Hotel is dated and long overdue for a refresh. Pool area had no service waiters. This is an old hotel that is competing in the market on price and not quality. Definitely not J W Marriott quality.

Yelp
From the moment I arrived Friday night with my lady, I got to start off with my guy Matthew. Now unfortunately this is the only name I remember but it was a fantastic experience from top to bottom. Very attentive, very on point and very much. The reason I'll be back. Front desk was front desk, you can tell when people are about to get off work but still pleasant and polite for the most part. The room was amazing. I have told about 10 people already since I've been back and everybody likes my Facebook post. Check out was made easy. Valet was quick with the car on both days. Can't wait to come back. Thank you so much again for the most amazing service in my 42 years on Earth. Please make sure my man Matthew is there when I come back.

Yelp
Check in process was horrible. I waited for a half hour to find out my reservation wasn't being honored and they gave one of my rooms away. I was traveling as a family of six and needed connecting rooms. Wasn't given the option of upgrading or downgrading. Had to divide my small children , one of which has special needs into different rooms. They also charge you to have them remove the snacks from the room that automatically charge you when you lift them off the counter. At this point in my stay I will never return.

Yelp
gorgeous property well maintained near shops and restaurants (only one casual and one steak restaurant in site)

Yelp
The water park wasn't working correctly during our entire stay. The main pool, Flow Rider and slides were closed for two of the three days we were there and the one day they were open, the heater was broken. It's extremely frustrating to have this experience after spending almost $800 a night and ruined our Spring Break. The hotel only removed the $68 daily resort fee and offered a $100 credit.

Yelp
This place is a total nightmare. It was absolutely the worst check-in procedure I ever had. They didn't have my reservation. And I had to wait and miss out on most of my evening event because they didn't know how to book walk-ins. They had us wait for a manager that never showed up. The guy wasted hours of my time because he didn't know how to do his job properly. Already late, I had to go back and forth between my room and reception three times because either their key or the door or both was not coded properly. And then I had to wait for someone to fix it after I proved to them with multiple attempts that I really could not get in. And then of course my TV stops working and the remote is out of batteries. When I called the front desk about it, no one answered. There is no business center. I don't understand how they intend to support any travelers that might need to conduct business or handle any paperwork during their stay. This is a pretty essential part of hotel services. I'm giving one star to the housekeeping staff. They did great. My advice to the hotel: based on observations of performance, you should pay your housekeepers more and your mangers less. Unless management can get itself together, they're going to have a lot of disgruntled guests for the foreseeable future.

Yelp
I came down here because of the water park and heard it was really run by looking at other reviews. The AC is broken in the room and considering we're in Florida that's not good. No lines for water park rides even though lots of people swimming in the main pool. The water park rides were very fun. Sadly the lazy river was closed for maintenance my whole trip.

Yelp
Beautiful Resort and friendly staff. Everything was clean and staff was very attentive.

Yelp
We stayed here for a couple days while my partner spoke at a conference, would have been nice to utilize the pool and water park but it was raining the whole time (obviously not the resorts fault). I ordered lunch to the room and asked for a medium rare burger and got one that was overly well done. The drinks at the resort were 40 bucks each which to me seemed a bit excessive. At one point I set my room service tray in the hall and embarrassingly the door slammed shut behind me and my phone and key were left inside. I asked one of the maids to help but she told me I had to call security. I phoned them with the phone by the elevator and it took them almost a half an hour to let me back in my room. I was really looking forward to this place and for the money I figured I would have had a better experience. I will probably check out another resort next time we are looking.

Yelp
Stayed here recently and was pretty disappointed considering this is a JW property - typically very nice hotels. First of all, I was checking in early - and while my room was ready, which was a plus - the check in took forever (why, I am not sure) and the lobby was super chaotic. People were blatantly cutting in the line to the front desk..the 'concierge' desk was never staffed while I was there and there is no room so there were kids running around while adults wandered through in anything ranging from bathing suits (without coverups often) to business suits to golfers, etc. There is no line for Bonvoy members as is often the case even in less expensive Marriott properties. Upon check in, my room was clean, relatively spacious and nice, but the air conditioning was off...when it was 100 degrees out. This is much harder to cool down vs if they had just turned it up to 80-something first and takes a lot more energy to turn on and off. It took an entire day to get it basically livable. While my room was ok, the lack of a refrigerator (which is common even in lower end Marriott properties...) was irritating (especially with the room being so hot) and my ironing board didn't work at all - kept falling down - I would have had to iron on the floor. When the room was cleaned daily, the towels on the floor weren't taken so I had a plethora of towels (I reuse towels, but they took the ones hung up and not the ones I left to take - like the floor one for after showering). I visited both restaurants and the Starbucks. If you want Starbucks, go early - the line is long and slow - so, take your time there. The other restaurants as follows: - Bourbon Steak - good food, but exceptionally expensive - overly so in my opinion (having been to many expensive restaurants and high end steak houses). - Corsair - food was ok, but very very pricey for what it is. If I had had other options I wouldn't have visited this spot. For the price, this isn't what I'd expect from a JW. I was disappointed with the lobby, speed of assistance and the food options.

Yelp
Bath and shower did not work. Called to have it fixed and after 1.5 hours no one came. Upon check in I was charged twice and it took another 3 hours to prove it was a mistake. I was also surprised with a non refundable pet fee of $200. The entire stay for 2 nights came to over $1600 for the most un-relaxing experience. Also the walls are so thin I heard every word of the neighbors quietly talking. No bath or shower, careless staff, paper thin walls, crazy expensive for what you get.

Yelp
I stayed there December 2023, two rooms had bedbugs. The hotel front desk call two older men with a small can of bug spray engineers the two older men go in a room and spray with the small can. The front desk and the two men said that's all they can do since so many people were calling about the problem. Hotel staff blamed the bed bug problem on the weather. The rooms do not look like the picture they advertise, room need a desperate model.

Yelp
The saddest part of this review was we only stayed one night here after a cruise. It is about 25 mins from cruise port and 25 mins from airport. It is so beautiful as most JW hotels are. I was truly wowed. The room was huge, everything new and had the JW scent. Our room view was spectacular. The access to the waterpark is a huge plus. It was the classiest and chillest waterpark I've been to. The pools are heated, but lazy river was v cold. Still very nice tho. The waterpark also featured a mini one with multiple slides for kids I'd say 10 and under. We didn't venture out to eat bc we were tired but my husband picked up take out from the restaurant downstairs for dinner. Overall a great albeit short experience. As a platinum elite, I just wish there were robes to use.

Yelp
I'm here now. Unbelievable how horrible the service, customer service and experience is at this place. It has a water park which is the only reason to go, but even the staff there are lacking. Can't find anyone, you don't know where anyone is, the restaurant wait staff do not know what they are doing, we waited over an hour just to get someone to talk to us, and he just went to get wait staff. Do not waste your money. Everyone was complaining about the service. This place is a joke. Nice grounds. Horrible staff.

Yelp
I stayed one night at this JW Marriott in Miami during a recent business trip. I'll definitely plan to stay here with the family in the future, to take advantage of all the amenities. The hotel looks well maintained and very clean everywhere. I stayed in a King room, which was relatively spacious and also very clean and comfortable. I was told every room has a balcony, which is a nice bonus. My room had a view overlooking the pool, where there was live music at night. There is a water park and spa in the resort, but I didn't have a chance to use either of these. I did get to eat at Bourbon Steak, located off the main lobby. The food was very good and priced appropriately for the level of service and food/drink quality. I hope to stay at this hotel/resort again soon.

Yelp
I stayed here for a few nights for a conference, and I thought it was really nice. That said, I did get the conference rate, which was about 80% less than what a normal room is going for through Marriott. Unless I was taking advantage of every hole of golf 3 times over and hit the waterpark at least a few times, I don't know that it would be a price I'd be willing to pay. The suite I had was incredibly nice - couch, desk, balcony, huge bathroom, super comfortable bed. The water pressure was excellent and the A/C was not shy. No matter which room you get, I suspect it'll be a similar experience. The property itself is huge, when I wasn't in a conference I was able to hit the adults only pool, the waterpark, and several of the on-property restaurants, and there is definitely a great resort vibe no matter where you are. Be aware, as I write this there is a lot of construction going on; while I did not see it (it's well-hidden) I definitely heard it, and they were doing work at some really odd hours (like 1am). In any case, you can easily spend a few days here without ever having to leave. Great options for fun & food, comfortable rooms, and if you do want to leave, there's a nice mall across the street and the beach is just a short drive away.

Brian R.

Yelp
Too bad I couldn't select zero stars for this review. Huge disappointment in the service at this property. Delayed checkin past 5pm, lack of lack check out in compensation, waited 30 mins to check into the property despite trying to check in on line, waited 15 on hold to get to front desk and every hotel towel by the pool has a stain. If you want an underwhelming, overpriced hotel, check this out property. They don't do justice to the JW brand. Avoid at all costs.

Yelp
Event and catering food tasting at Turnberry. Chef Bill Gideon is a super star! Very knowledgeable and helpful.

Yelp
We would never stay at this Aventura JW Marriott again. When paying so much for a resort, you expect only the best. In this case, we we did not. We have never complained about the price, but if you're going to ask this much for a stay at a Marriott, you expect only the best, one would think. To start off: Elevator did not work When we valet parked our car, one of the valet parkers messed with the radio from our vehicle so we had to reset it all over. Iron in the room was not working properly at all and took forever to get us one that worked. AC was not properly working. Bartender at the main adult pool did not make drinks well at all. There is no excuses for this type of service. For all of the listed comments I give this a whopping 2.5 stars I hold management fully restore this.

Anay P.

Yelp
One of the best hotels I stayed while visiting Miami. Definitely kid friendly but still caters to adults. They have an adult only pool 24 hours which is a plus but pool service stops around 7pm just FYI. The water park on the property is pretty cool especially if you have children. Publix grocery store less than a mile away and you are literally walking distance to the mall Aventura A lot of eateries in the mall. Also they have a water slide in the park which is pretty cool for adults lol. I really enjoy myself when I visit this property. And yes I visit often

Angie L.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my weekend stay at the hotel, the staff was very nice and the hotel was super clean. I was given room 2415, which is a junior suite, equipped with a king bed, double sink, shower, plush robe, a sofa with a desk area and balcony overlooking the golf course. Parking: Valet is $45 daily and self parking is $30 daily Tidal Cove: It was amazing! It has a kiddie area (see pictures) for the smaller kids, It's also equipped with a lazy river, two (2) pools, several water slides and flowrider which cost extra. The chairs are on a first come first serve basis, so the earlier you arrive the better.

Yelp
Where to start? Well, we did check in before the room was ready...so we were told that we would be called on my cell. Standard check in time went by, and we were still waiting for a call. After waiting 4 hours, I went to the front desk to find out what the delay was. I was told that the room had been ready for hours, but they "forgot" to call us. Corsair Restaurant: bland food at extremely high prices. You're pretty much captive at the hotel, and your restaurant choice are as sparse as competent staff. They sat us down and we ordered immediately. After an hour of watching people who ordered well after we did get their food, we were told that we were "next". Next to what - a glacier melting? Food finally came and it was cold and the meat tasted like it sat out in the hot Florida sun for days. The bill came and we were given a 20% discount for the wait - but we were taxed on the entire amount (which, BTW, is illegal since they didn't collect the entire amount) but they also added a 25% tip to the bill...on the original amount plus the tax. When we complained that this was illegal, they refused to remove the overcharge. The hotel was only okay, but for what we paid for the room, the price for this location, the incompetent staff and the unethical practices, this is a place that I would tell people to steer well clear. Look - there are much better hotels that are a great value in Miami. This is not one of them. You'll thank yourself in the end if you don't give them any of your business.

Kari W.

Yelp
Overall the resort was very nice, the staff was very friendly and everything was clean! Getting the bonus of the water park with your stay was an amazing bargain, but besides that everything was a bit pricey. Breakfast buffet for a 6 year old was around $30, when she only had a muffin and valet parking was around $80. It was a great experience, but expect the extra cost because of the area.

Steph M.

Yelp
Minus a star for: valet not efficient or friendly and Lack of chairs at pool. Yet tons of green members only reserved chairs. ( no one in them). I watched so many families be restricted to just sitting on the pavement instead of being able to sit together in a couple lounge chairs because of the lack of chairs available. ( yet no one really tending to the chairs 45 minute policy) We went during Passover the the company that was employed to do the elevators was really unprofessional and actually one of the guys even implied we need to give him a tip in the elevator when my husband was searching in his pocket for our room Key as we were just checking in. It was really bad. We have stayed here several times over the years and this time although it was more stormy than the rest, it was lacking major service from pool and valet staff. It's almost as if the guest was an after thought. Room service menu could use some help and kids menu could use some additions. By day 3 we resorted to uber eats cause it was that bad. Beautiful location. Pricey and since we were there for partially rainy days, the hotel wasn't worth it without the sunny water park days. Having the starbucks on site was nice but still not easy to get to first thing in the AM. Would like to have more for kids to do. In the store , at checkin, or something. Huge opportunity for checkin to have something for kids considering the amt of families I saw checking in. When it was raining, would have been nice to have something more to do activity wise. Nothing really available in the retail shop.

Yelp
We loved everything about the JW Turnberry. The moment we walked into the property we were welcomed by the friendliest bellhop. He guided us to our room and gave us a great tour of the amenities on the way. We had one very small concern about our room and they sent housekeeping immediately. Once again, the staff was cordial and nice. The Tidal Wave (water park) was fun. It was a adult only trip and even we enjoyed it. But I will say, the adult only pool with towel service was my favorite part (and their staff was amazing too)! You know it's a great stay when you don't want to leave. This resort truly knows how to treat their guests and maintain a beautiful property. I have no doubt we'll be back again!

Yelp
Wow! This hotel got so bad, it's actually sad. Used to love to come stay here, go to water park. But today, we arrived and have been treated like sh**. Even though we have booked with Amex and also have a gold elite bonvoy status, everything has been just a sh** show. So disappointed. Room not ready, and everyone talking down to you, like how dare you show up before 4 pm, even though Amex says moon check in. At 3 pm we were told "they will do us a favor" and send cleaning people to our room. Lol We booked a junior suit. They tried to trick us into accepting a regular room, without any refund on the price difference. What a scam. Will never again return here. Oh, and also they tried to charge us for a fully prepaid reservation. Terrible
