We went out to eat last night and I had the great idea to try something new, because I get tired of the same ole same ole. We've heard good things about a locally owned restaurant called J Wilson's. Now mind you, my mom did mention the food was a tad spicy, but I dismissed it because her spicy is really not spicy to me.
We went...told 20 min wait...no big deal and really only waited 10 min. Restaurant was a little loud, but we could hold a conversation without yelling.
Ordered the man candy, for an appetizer, which was really good but really spicy!! We informed the waitress that this was our first experience with JW and asked the waitress about the meatloaf and chicken fried steak as my husband was torn between the two. He decided on the CFS, as the description of the meatloaf was not to his liking. I ordered the salmon kabobs, upon the waitresses recommendation and we also ordered two side salads and a side of the braised greens and black eyed peas. Waited, waited, waited ....Now, mind you, we did tell the waitress it was our first visit, hence the questions about the food....continued to wait and wait.
Ahhhhh, here comes our main course and NO salads, brought to us, by of course, not our waitress, which is not unusual at restaurants!! We mentioned our disappointment about the salads not arriving before the main course and as she sat my husband's plate down, it was meatloaf! Another disappointment as we both knew he wouldn't enjoy their meatloaf (after our questions before ordering).
Finally our waitress arrived after a couple minutes....she really wasn't empathetic, especially when I reminded her this was our first visit & no salads and my main course was getting cold as we wait for his. I did not want to eat while my husband did not have his food!
We continued to wait and after a few minutes, which seemed like a lifetime, we received our salads. Another few minutes a gentleman comes out from the kitchen, apologizing and said they were working on my husbands main course. It was nice of him to visit us, but he didn't seem empathetic either, and gosh, why didn't he do that when he brought my husband's main course? A few minutes later my husband received his CFS. All of the food was good, but VERY spicy! The waitress did offer to tell us that she wrote down meatloaf instead of CFS, so the main course mixup was her fault and I admired she admitted her mistake. We paid our $70 bill and left a 15% tip. (no alcohol, all food)
The man candy, braised greens/blackeyed peas, salmon kabobs and my husbands mashed potatoes were all excellent, but again, all spicy!
It would've been nice if someone offered to comp something, even if it was just the extra side salad or man candy, but NOTHING was offered for their mistakes!! It wasn't about the money for us, but the experience & we did NOT have a GOOD experience! We both agreed there will be NO disappointment if we never go back again, as it was not the best experience!
