Google
I dream about the taro buns here! Everything I’ve had is delicious. I also frequently get the pineapple buns, coconut, red bean. They are incredibly generous with the filling, which I haven’t found to be the case in other bakeries nearby.

Alan M.

Google
Actually 4.5 though it's really good and authentic. All the Hong Kong/Cantonese classics done well and fresh every morning including the bbq pork bun, cocktail bun, pineapple bun, and custard tart. The exception was the sesame ball that appeared good size but was mostly dough when more sweet bean paste filling is expected.

Ames S

Google
Not the best buns. Actually tastes a bit weird compared to other places in chinatown. The pricing on the signs stating what type of buns they are might be wrong or the cashier doesn't know how to count (I'm going to go with the former). I was overcharged for the two buns seen in the picture. They were suppose to be 1.25 and 1.00 respectively but I was charged 2.75. That being said pricing for certain buns are better at other places and actually taste better. However I do recommend the coconut pineapple bun and I regret not getting that today.

Google
There are several bakeries on this street, KC being one of them. Their standout buns are their Pineapple/Coconut bun and Custard bun. Both are freshly baked and taste awesome. Owner is friendly, and can communicate in English and Mandarin. If you call ahead, they can take orders as they tend to be busy around mid day. They can do custom bakery if you call ahead of time. Besides cash, I think they also accept Venmo or Zelle as form of payment.

Google
The bread’s texture is not my favorite— it’s not as soft and chewy as I would expect. Additionally the flavors just don’t taste very real or fresh. I tried one kind of red bean bun and their cheese corn bread. I would try another store next time.

Nancy

Google
About $2 per bun (2.10, 2.5, 2.75). I got 10 buns for $23.50. Really liked the custard bo lo baos. They were out of cha siu bao by the time I got there.

Jesse Wilburn

Google
Amazing pastry, one of the best in Philly! The bun I got was soft and filled with a sweet & delicious custard. The bread also looked super god so I will be back to get a loaf for sure. Thank you!

Cassandra Perez

Google
Absolutely delicious. I bought an egg custard tart, sesame/red bean bun, large red bean bun, and almond cookies. Everything was 💯. My kids loved the almond cookies and one who doesn’t normally like red bean paste liked the large red bean bun. I’ll be sure to stop here again if I’m ever in Philly in the future. The lady in the shop spoke good English and took credit cards just an FYI.

Yelp
This is a small gem in Chinatown. It's one of those 'if you know, you know' kind of spots. Unassuming, small in size, and easy to walk past. BUT! this little gem serves such a variety of pastries, it's super easy to get overwhelmed by the choices. My absolute favorite here is this braided bread situation that has raisins, a few coconut flakes, and small spots of pineapple or apricot dashed throughout the braid. It has a buttery coating, and I love it warmed up with a cup of tea or straight out of the packaging. I also love their cream buns (like a huge bun, sliced down the middle and filled to the brim with light fluffy cream). They also serve moon cakes and other things, but I'm a creature of habit and usually get the same braided bread situation I just gushed about. My sons usually get a slice of cake. The service is quick and friendly. There are usually two women who bag your order and take your cash or card.

Yelp
We came to KC's Pastries after having a delicious meal nearby and needing something sweet. Thanks to the recommendations of other Yelpers we figured out that we wanted to try the taro and cream buns. They were DELICIOUS! The shop itself is small and led by one very friendly person. She was very kind to explain to us the fillings of other desserts they had. We got about eight different things and had a big tasting in the car. With the cheap pricing of each bun being about $2-$3, it is easy to have a feast! This is the first Asian bakery we have ever been to and hopefully not the last.

Yelp
Although it is a niche Asian bakery, it isn't exactly ideal. It is very small and easy to crowd. When you first walk in, it's a small platform. The pastries are behind a white table with an Asian older lady. But they are just in trays all in a rack with no labels and no prices. It's harder for people who have no idea what they want or want to think about it, compared to someone staring at them. It's also harder to plan when you're on a budget, and you gotta ask how much is everything. I think everything we got was under $2 each. There is a credit card processing fee, so cash is encouraged in small places like this!

Yelp
I used to go here 25 years ago even! Quality has always been solid, prices. Super reasonable, and service. Always efficient. I go back whenever I'm back in Philly!

Yelp
15 years later KC's remains one of the best if not the best bakeries in Chinatown. My favorite still remains the pineapple coconut buns(which gets my vote for best sweet bun in Chinatown) followed by taro and custard cream buns. Sadly, they don't make the sweet potato tart anymore. Also the sesame rice balls don't have as much red bean filling as they used to. They do now sell a red bean filled mochi square which is very nice. As you can see, they did away with self service. Average cost per item is $1.75 -$2

Yelp
A true hidden gem in Chinatown! This little cash-only bakery is everything you want in a neighborhood spot--authentic, affordable, and absolutely delicious. The pastries are always fresh, especially the BBQ pork buns and the sesame balls, which are hands down some of the best I've had. It's a no-frills place with friendly service. Just remember to bring cash--it's worth it! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. :)

Yelp
first time here and i got the egg tart, pineapple bun, red bean bun, sesame ball and almond pastry!! there's so menu so u just order whatever's ready that day so it's fresh :) super cheap, all of these were $9 in total!!! if ur craving chinese baked goods i recommend coming here!!
google avatar

Angel P.

Yelp
A decent bakery that accepts cash and card (3.99% processing fee) so I recommend to bring cash. I came on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't much left (at least the ones I wanted like bbq pork, pork floss, pineapple, etc) so I got a red bean bun, cream bun, and hot dog bun. The bread of the hot dog bun was good, not overly sweet but the hot dog itself wasn't great. The red bean bun was good. Cream bun was decent but I personally don't usually get it. I don't like the system, as everything is behind a table and the worker takes out the baked goods for you. You can't see everything as they're all in the rack so the worker has to pull out the trays for you to their current selection. There are also no listed prices.

Yelp
Great pastries freshly made too. They are super well priced. I loved the chiffon cakes and the custard bun and egg tart was delicious. There's no set meñu so I recommend thinking about what you want beforehand!

Yelp
Lady that runs the bakery is great. Nice to talk and explain what baked goods they are selling behind the counter inside. The sweet buns are very fluffy and have a great flavor. All the filling is tasty and you get a good amount, for red bean, custard, pineapple, etc. the best part is how reasonable the prices are. Lots of things for $2 or less for quality pastries. Delicious spot, love stopping in for a few treats. Thanks

Yelp
LIFE CHANGING PINEAPPLE BUNS!!! I owe it to KC's Pastries for being the first place where I tried pineapple red bean buns!!! They are SO GOOD here!!! Something about these buns hits different... They are also really cheap!!! (~$1-2/bread) This is my go-to spot in Philly to get fresh bread. I specifically come here to get the pineapple red bean buns. If you go too early, then they might not have them ready yet (speaking from experience, haha) and if you go too late, then they might sell out! Their coconut buns are also reallyyyy tasty! The bread taste best warm and fresh. Note: You get a discount if you pay in cash :)

Yelp
Was looking to grab a quick breakfast in Philly Chinatown and decided to drop by to buy a few buns. When we got there, it wasn't your usual self serve, you had to tell the cashier which ones you wanted (looks like they're short staffed). We got a few things, roast pork buns, pork floss buns and a coconut creme bun. The buns were decent but the pork floss bun was unique since they rolled it into a roll rather than top a plain bun with the floss. Their roast pork bun was good but the filling was different - tastes like they put sa cha sauce in the it and there was a lot of bread, the ratio was a bit off. Overall not bad, worth a try if you're in the area looking for buns.

Yelp
The bakery I used to go to went out of business so tried this one cause it's got a good rating on Yelp. Coconut bun - ok, more salty than expected. Not 'HK' style enough for me, can't quite put my finger on it. Raisin bread - pretty close to what I was expecting. The raisins have a slightly more anise taste than I was expecting but it is not bad. Generally its OK but it didn't hit the spot for me.
google avatar

Pamela S.

Yelp
They haven't offered as much of a selection since COVID, but this bakery is still one of the better ones in Chinatown. They have a really good roast port bun, but their egg tarts are too sweet and not flakey, imo. I also suggest their loaf breads- the raisin is my favorite!

Yelp
Our go to Chinese bakery in Chinatown. We love it here. Take out only. Service is fine, buns are finer

Don A.

Yelp
I checked out KC's Pastries mainly because I had a taste for sesame balls. At around 4:45 pm on New Year's Day, they only had one sesame ball. Long story made short, the salesperson asks if I'd come back in 30 mins for a fresh batch. WOW! So I bought two boxes, one to gift and the other to take home. Thank YOU!

Sophia L.

Yelp
very kind folks, and tasty pastries. I had a large, short notice order for a work meeting, and they got us a bunch of boluo bao and hongdou bao for a very reasonable price.
google avatar

Ken D.

Yelp
Love this place. Grew up eating these pastries. Still the same owner. Always fresh and right priced.
google avatar

Samira A.

Yelp
This place smells like pastry perfume. I've been going here for many years and it always smells the same. The presentation is different now, I assuming because of the pandemic. The display is closer to the front and the woman in the front serves you instead of a self serve display. My favs are the heart shaped stamped custard filled buns and the taro bun with sweet potato! Nice soft buns with lots of filling. I tried the sesame bun once and it was good but I stick to my usual.

Di S.

Yelp
I love the red bean buns here. Cash only. Prices are very reasonable (around $2 per pastry?). I want to to try moon cakes.
google avatar

Marina N.

Yelp
Good place for pastries! We got the taro bun to take back home and it was so delicious. The bun had ample taro filling that was a natural purple taro color. The bread was soft and chewy. The center had a slightly salty(?) taste as well; I know it sounds weird but it combined well with the rest of the bun. This place is cash only so just keep that in mind. I would highly recommend this shop for all your buns/pastries needs. These buns don't disappoint!!
google avatar

Ellen Y.

Yelp
My go to place in Chinatown for pastries. They've changed their model since COVID and there is a lady at the front who will grab everything for you, and she was very patient and explained every single item to me. They have all the goods - pineapple buns, egg tarts, taro buns, etc. Stop by and bring cash!
google avatar

Mona A.

Yelp
BEST sesame balls. It's no secret that I love sesame balls.... KC's pastries has single-handedly perfected the art of making a mouthwatering buttery gooey sesame ball with the most perfect red bean paste in the creamy center. I visited this bakery every single week for the three years I lived in Philly. I've since moved, but would make the trip in a heartbeat JUST to taste these sesame balls again.
google avatar

Yelp
First of all, the smell coming from this place is what drew me in. It smelled like pastries cooked to perfection. When you walk in there is a small table to order at and the pastries are individually wrapped and ready to go. I had: BBQ pork bun: 5/5 It was so warm with the perfect meat to bread ratio. The bread was also incredibly soft. Coconut Cream Bun: 5/5 Light and fluffy, cream inside tasted like real butter. I felt like there was a little to much bread for how much cream there is, but the flavors are definitely there.
google avatar

Royce D.

Yelp
One of the best pineapple buns I have ever had! (And it was only $1.75!) Perfectly soft texture with crunchy egg-wash on top, and the custard just melts in your mouth. Would recommend to anyone!

Irene N.

Yelp
Just a takeout place. Good sesame buns and custard pies. We always stop here when we're in China Town.
google avatar

Vidhi S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bakeries in Chinatown and I stop by here every time i'm in the area. Pre-covid just seems so long ago now but since Covid the spot is quite small. You walk in and there's a table separating you and the pastries and a person that will bag whatever you want. Everything is always so fresh and delicious and amazingly soft!! My favorite is the pineapple bun - crusty top and soft bun. There's no filling which is how I personally like it, but there are plenty of things with filling inside if that's your preference!
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Quality is good but after COVID, their selection has reduced a lot. Less available in the afternoons
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
This is the first Asian bakery I've been to and it's still my favorite. Everything is baked fresh daily. I typically go for the sweet pastries even though I've had the savory. My favorite will always be the coconut cream bun. The bun is so soft and the cream is a a beautiful, buttery and fluffy filling that's perfectly sweet. They use this filling is some of their other pastries. My fiance usually goes for the taro bun which has this excellent sugary layer on the outside of the bun that I wish covered the whole thing. KC is cash only which falls in line with most places in Chinatown. Everything is so reasonably priced here I usually never have to take money out. Even pocket change could cover the cost of one pastry.
google avatar

Tolu A.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bakery! I come to this bakery each time I'm in Philly. It located right behind the Chinatown gates, so it's very easy to find. The pastries here are quite affordable - between $1-$1.50 My favorite pastries are as follows: -Snow Mountain Bun -Pineapple Bun -Almond Twist
google avatar

Tom P.

Yelp
This is my wife's go to place for bubble tea in Chinatown. We've been going here since we started dating waay back in '07 and it's still standing all these years. Grab your custard tarts, pork buns, pinneaple buns, etc. Nothing much has changed, still has the quality pastries that you get a tray, grab what you want and pay at the counter. It's just a great, dependable, cheap pastry place.
google avatar

Phyllis X.

Yelp
Hands down the best egg tarts ever. No bakery makes egg tarts the way they do. I'm obsessed!
google avatar

Ronnie B.

Yelp
Since covid they have a table at the front door with some things on it, you can't go in. Other pastry is on a rack behind it. You can't even see what they have. All other bakeries have adjusted since covid but not these guys. Also the last time I did want to buy something, it was small size plain cup cake. They wanted $3. You can get same anywhere else for $1. Before, they used to have a big selection. Can't figure out how they stay open. There are too many other options in Chinatown to even bother with this place.
google avatar

Er3yn G.

Yelp
Best pastry place in Chinatown if you ask me. Probably have been coming here for about four years. They really upgraded their business. You grab a tray, wax paper, some tongs and go for it. They have a wide selection- usually more things in the morning but there's still the favorites in the afternoon. And they keep the fresh pastries coming. Everything is $1 and it's cash only! They also have a bakery in the back where you can get whole cakes, pies, and tiramisu.

Yelp
Fellow yelpers, I will begin my review with this: Today, 3/9/19, my friends and I did "The Egg Tart Challenge". This was Bakery stop #7 of 7. FINALLY By this moment, I could only stomach the egg tart. None of the other yummy pastries. It will be a while until I can handle another Egg Tart Challenge. The atmosphere was lovely, and interactive as we got to get our own tray and tongs and tissue paper for picking out our pastries! Staff was friendly but there werent many people inside. Only two chairs in the corner, no inside seating really. The Egg tart ($1.10) was more like a custard cookie! It looked like they were more commercially made. Perfectly formed and symmetrical. The crust tasted like a shortbread cookie! And it was very thick. The tart was egg-y and we loved this! Great texture. Certainly delicious! Wish it was cold!! Thank you KC! ********************************************** Who wants to suggest our Challenge!?
google avatar

Victor W.

Yelp
5/5 for taste and quick service The location is small and they've scaled down to just move all the pastries up to the front of the store. They now take credit card, but prefer cash only. They have a variety of breakfast/lunch pastries such as egg tarts, pork floss buns, hot dog buns, vanilla cream buns, taro/red-bean buns, sponge cakes and more. They're quick, the breads are mostly $1-2 in price. They are delicious, filling and individually wrapped for you. Tips/Takeaways: -Definitely highly recommend -I come here weekly for breakfast and lunch foods, no regrets!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
My parents have an insatiable obsession with Chinese bakeries and they keep mental notes of the bakeries' comparability to the less-than mediocre ones in Chicago. Therefore my typical souvenirs to my parents from domestic travels are Cantonese-style baked buns. Cheap and fulfilling! With KC's, I bought a variety of pineapple, cocktail, and barbecue pork buns. They're rather massive and one bun for breakfast would definitely last me until past lunch before I start feeling hungry again. Other than that, I think they can be softer and more moisture.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Solid Chinese bakery to visit, I always get a bolo bao and sesame balls. Also can't go wrong with their coconut cream bun. Everything is fresh in the morning.

Jasmine L.

Yelp
I come here almost every morning before work for breakfast, and i'm never disappointed. the bread is always fresh and cheap. 100% recommmend
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
Pastries, pork buns, and bubble tea, oh my! This Chinatown bakery gets a lot of foot traffic, and it's no wonder. When you walk in, all you can smell are the scents of Chinese cakes and cream tarts. Their hot dog buns are tasty, as are their BBQ pork buns. I'm not the biggest fan of bubble tea, but their mango tea is sweet and does the trick on a hot day. Try their lychee bubble tea, too: it's even more refreshing and quite possibly my new favorite non-alcoholic drink.
google avatar

Melanie P.

Yelp
I walked to KC's Pastries this morning to get some breakfast. When I got there, there was a table inside and I just walked up and the lady inside came to help me. It felt safer because you couldn't get too close to the pastries, during this covid time. I ordered 2 egg tarts and a pork bun. They were still warm and smelled delicious. I actually wanted a pork bao, like the bbq ones but she gave me the pork roll bun type of thing. It was still good though and i was just too shy to ask for something different. I'd come back to try a bbq pork bao. My 3 pastries were $3.95 i love how affordable Chinese pastries are. Pretty good deal.
google avatar

Cecilia T.

Yelp
For the past 10+ years, my husband and I have been coming here for their scrumptious pastries and cheap bubble teas for breakfast. The bubble teas aren't only cheap at $2.50, their also very tasty, super sweet and their the only bakery that uses crushed ice instead of cubed ice, which we really like. This place carries a large selection of Chinese pastries as well at the lowest prices possible with good tasty flavors. We usually get the pineapple, roast pork and curry beef buns, egg tarts, coffee Swiss roll and my favorite, sweetheart cake with winter melon paste filling but all the other pastries are also very good. Please be warned again that parking is a pain because it is in the heart of Chinatown so metered spaces are limited. Service is typically good and everything is made fresh daily so your stomach will be satisfied. :p
google avatar

Faye Y.

Yelp
One of my favorite bakeries in Chinatown - consistent in their quality. Their buns are big in size compared to other bakeries. This place is cash only and self serve. I love the cream filled buns, chicken curry, coffee rolls & egg tarts here. Their fruit smoothies are good too! I grew up coming to this bakery, even from the time they used to be on 11th street. I always recommend it to friends who come to visit.

Kristy D.

Yelp
This place used to be very good before Covid. Now it's a bit of hassle to shop there since you can't even see the pastry that you're buying or new ones might want to try. Their egg tarts is super sweet and the crust is not flaky at all. Don't even have to any regular sponge cake.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
I love their egg tarts here ! They are 1 dollar each ! The custard is not too sweet and the crust is not super flaky, which I prefer sometimes ! I have not tried any of their other pastries and they have a good selection !
google avatar

Henry F.

Yelp
Egg tarts came out fresh so I was excited. It's a pretty cheap and you can mix and match a variety of pastries and goodies. I went for the egg tarts ($1 each) and they were alright. Pastry itself was nice and flaky but the custard was bland. Good deals though!
google avatar

G. Eduardo M.

Yelp
Fresh and inexpensive pastries. Not just the sweet ones. Barbecue pork is amazing! My favorite is the Pineapple Custard Cream Bun. Good luck having self control after you get some.
google avatar

Yuechen Y.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite bakery in Philly so far. My favorite ones are the pineapple buns, the custard cream buns, chicken curry buns, and everything with red bean(read bean buns and wife buns(老婆饼)). I'll always make sure I stop by KC's Pastries when I'm in Philly. Really decent prices and really tasty/not that sweet pastries here. Sometimes demands are higher than supply, and you can see empty trays in the display cases. Also, min $20 for credit card and hard to locate a parking spot in Chinatown.
