Outrigger Ka’anapali Beach Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival?Like I had landed at my grandmother's timeshare. It doesn't take long to realize you've landed in a not-so-luxe spot. It immediately felt touristy, but the proximity to the ocean was exciting. Nice. What’s the crowd like? This hotel represents the American dream vacation to Hawaii. It's just-doing-enough vibe attracts families and those who want to focus on the beach more than the property. Mixed drinks in plastic cups with little umbrellas are abundant. How was check in? Check-in wasn't anything remarkable. The tech in the room consisted of a basic radio clock and T.V. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.We stayed in a Partial Ocean View Room. The decor felt like an upscale Tuesday Morning, on the outdated side of design. The view permitted a small view of the ocean, a kid-filled pool, and courtyard. I did enjoy the patio in the evening to watch the sky. Room service and food: Worth it?If you're looking for a good ol' reliable with food that tastes good after a long day at the beach, you'll want to make your way to the Tiki Terrace. There you'll find poke, lamb fettuccini, and a few others reliables. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. There's hula dancing at sunset everyday. Also, if you'd like to snorkel or ride a boki board, they've got you covered. Bottom line: worth it, and why?If you want a very low-key, family-friendly excursion without any frills or fancy bites, this place could be for you. The property is right on the beach, and what it lacks in general polish, it makes up for in ocean-focused fun." - Corbin Chamberlin

I booked this room for my best friend's 60th birthday. I wanted the ocean view room which was obscured by bushes so you can't even see the beach if you were on the ground level like we were. The sliding door to get out of the patio was tricky and you had to manipulate it. During our stay, our bathroom ceiling was leaking. We reported it and it was fixed properly, but when the panel was taken off, water splashed all over our counter and belongings on the sink top, the hotel never gave any kind of discount for the inconvenience as we had to be there when maintenance came to fix it. We also found a cockroach on our wall, which we also reported, but apparently this is a common occurrence in Hawaii? I realize they are everywhere even where, but I have never seen one in any other hotel. The staff was very friendly specially when we checked in and the valet person, Rob was wonderful. The beds are also not comfortable. We did love the shower as it is a walk-in shower with great water pressure. I expected this to be a higher end resort, especially for the costs, and when there are resort fees involved and to me it was just average. I would not return to this resort.

The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Refrigerator, coffee maker and a good view. We booked through Costco and had room 338. The parking was easy, each level of the garage had a walkway to the floor where the rooms were. A good mix of families and couples, the staff was accommodating and friendly. We opted not to have the room clean while we were there so when we would request extra towels they always provided what we needed. All pic were from the he property. The beach was really nice and super easy to access. It was just beyond the pool. The hotel was quiet and there were places to relax. We didn't eat at the restaurants so I can't comment on them. Short walk to Whalers shopping area. It was our first time to Maui and we didn't know what to expect. Basically this is one long strip of resort hotels, one after another. My wife, our 18 year old daughter and her best friend didn't have any complaints about the property. There were shuttles available as well. The beach was amazing and we would not hesitate to stay there again. What would have made the stay better: a microwave in the room and more comfortable beds.

Google
The hotel provides satisfactory accommodations, comparable to other hotels in its category. However, I noticed a few areas for improvement. For instance, there was no pen or notepad available at the desk by the phone, which is a small but useful convenience many hotels provide. As a GHA Gold Member, I appreciated the gesture of receiving two reusable water bottles at check-in. However, since our group consisted of four people, we asked if we could receive two additional bottles—even offering to pay for them—because the bottles featured the hotel’s name and would have made meaningful souvenirs from our first stay at this property. Unfortunately, the front desk declined our request. While the bottles themselves are inexpensive and available elsewhere, what mattered to us was the hotel’s branding, which adds a special value as a keepsake. From a marketing perspective, this also seemed like a missed opportunity for the hotel. Providing the additional bottles, even for purchase, could have created goodwill and generated free word-of-mouth advertising, as our group would have proudly used them back home, sparking conversations about the hotel. Overall, the stay was fine, but I believe small gestures like this can leave a lasting positive impression and strengthen the hotel’s reputation.

We had a great experience staying at the Outrigger Ka’anapali. I went with my husband on a couples trip and it was perfect for what we were wanting. We had plans to go out on the island away from the resort for most of our days there and have 1.5 beach days. Overall, this was a great value. Our goals were to have a clean room, beautiful beach and good customer service and the Outrigger provided all of those things. Every person on staff that we talked to was extremely friendly and helpful. The resort building itself is dated. However, we felt like it was full of culture and in a safe area even though this was a motel style where the rooms doors are outside. We booked a signature partial ocean view room with a king bed, but couldn’t really see much of the ocean. Our view was mostly of the pool. Our room was a very short walk from the parking lot which was really nice since we had a rental car. The rooms were good sized and very clean. The bed was comfortable and there were lots of places to charge devices which we really appreciated. We also liked that the hotel offered cultural experiences and was within walking distance of Whalers Village. The beach access was great and a short walking distance. The sand was clean and super soft. Black Rock was very close and the ocean was beautiful. We climbed Black Rock and jumped off! We saw lots of fish and a couple of sea turtles. We liked that there was an option to rent snorkel gear right on the beach. The pool was very small and full of kids, which was totally fine but we avoided the pool completely since we prefer to be on the beach. If you are pool people, you probably won’t care for this one. Maui Brewing Company being on location was a huge bonus for us. We loved having the restaurant close and ate there twice during our stay. This is not a top of the line hotel, but it was perfect for our low maintenance needs, is right by a gorgeous beach and close enough to all of our excursions. We would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you to Outrigger for an amazing experience!

We booked 5 nights at the Outrigger Ka’anapali via Virgin Holidays and I was not disappointed. |The hotel is about 45 minutes’ drive from the airport (OGG) and has a multi-storey covered parking lot on site. We had a car for our full stay, and the hotel charges $25 per night parking with in/out allowed. We never had issues finding parking||CHECK-IN: Not much of a queue when we arrived and we were seen to promptly by a welcoming member of staff. They have an “activities” table for help with booking excursions, etc, and they also have a cultural centre for their daily activities (learn hawaiin, lei making, etc).||ROOM: Our room was in the “Papaku wing” which overlooking the tennis courts (and we could just about see the beach). I liked the room – it had everything needed and enough space for our belongings. Housekeeping kept it clean daily, and I imagine they have a tough job getting all the sand out of the rooms each day as even though you try, you can’t help but bring some back when you’ve been out!||HOTEL GROUNDS: There was a small convenience store at the front of the hotel which was closed the one time we wanted to use it (it says opening times do vary). They have breakfast / brunch spot on site which we did not visit, but we did go to the Maui Brewing Company bar / restaurant on site which had a nice vibe and overlooked the beach. ||There is a pool on site which never seemed to be busy when we went past it – we only used it the once and preferred to swim in the ocean instead.||The hotel is located a small walk from “Black Rock” which was great for jumping in from and for swimming & snorkelling as the waters were calm and clear.||The Outrigger is a small walk from the Whaler’s village which has lots of shops and dining options too. ||STAFF / SERVICE|The staff were all friendly and helpful. The Outrigger offer a departure ceremony where guests are presented with a kukui-nut lei, and I though this was such a wonderful touch when you are ready to leave.|I can see why it is classed as Maui’s “most Hawaiian” hotel.

Google
Love this location! If there were something I were to complain about it would be the small pool. Although it’s really cool that it’s in the shape of a whale. Great location, fantastic rooms, easy self serve laundry, options for eating (although we didn’t try any as we were running daily and trying so many options on Maui) Another “recommendation” would be to add a couple more handicap spots likely in the top floor of the parking deck. It’s the only place that really has the room needed. 2 just wasn’t enough honestly. We always made do and If I’m blessed enough to get to come back I’ll be staying here again. So easy to get to Whalers Village and Black Rock for some awesome snorkeling. (Check out The Snorkel Store) great prices and good gear at a great price.

We booked an ocean view room through Costco Travel, and everything from the reservation process to our final day was smooth and enjoyable. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff were all friendly, welcoming, and went out of their way to make sure we felt at home. The location is perfect—just steps away from Black Rock Beach, one of the best spots on the island for snorkeling. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing and scenic getaway on Maui!

Google
Loved this hotel!!! We loved the cultural center. The storytelling session was so fun for my kids! We took advantage of many of the programs. We loved the pool and the proximity to Black Rock for snorkeling and shopping. All within walking distance. Great for the entire family (age 9 to 86) highly recommended!!

Yelp
This resort is old school Brady Bunch Hawaii but in a good way. Rooms were comfy and clean, staff was uniformly kind and the grounds are really pretty. The beach is great too - we saw sea turtles! Every day they have cultural lessons and activities which was super cool. Dislikes: you have to extra to rent beach chairs/umbrellas. Come on man, we're paying a resort fee here.... Would resort again.

Yelp
Had lunch on May 13, 2024 and asked for more ice for my ice tea as it had melted and was told by a person who appeared to be in charge that they were understaffed. He walked away and said he would try. Never happened. The food was average. Won't return. I have lived on Maui and have visited for over 30 years. This was a first.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at Outrigger Beach Resort. This resort is located on the beachfront with such a beautiful garden and restaurant and bar. The place is maintained very well - I had no complaints throughout my stay. It is walking distance from Whaler Village where you have access to shopping, dining, and entertainment. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Very nice beach and located near a resort and shopping mall. Who could ask for more than that. We enjoyed our time here. We actually stayed about four hours. This location is also where a lot of the boat cruises drop off and a pick up location. The water was pretty calm. Average amount of waves. Nice family beach.

Yelp
We LOVED our stay here. Came for spring break, and it was SO quiet. It was exactly what a hotel should be. Not crazy hectic, no lines, just aloha. We upgraded our room to an ocean view, it was wonderful! Watched the whales breach all day at the beach and from our room. Some of the hotel still needs some updating (lobby, coffee, coffee shop). There's tennis and pickle ball courts on the property too!
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay here! It's walking distance from The Whaler shopping center which has plenty of stores, plenty of restaurants and had a restaurant inside the hotel too. I highly recommend having breakfast at the hotel, it was delicious. The Hotel is very nice, I'm super happy with our room and it had a beautiful partial ocean view from our deck. The customer service was excellent. I'll be back indeed!

Yelp
Love the renovations. This is the first time we've stayed here since KBH became the outrigger, and the 4th time staying at the property over all. Amazing hospitality and the lei ceremony at the end of your stay is always special. We stayed in the newly renovated wing this trip and it was absolutely lovely. We will be back again. MAHALO!

Emily P.

Yelp
We needed a place to stay last minute and booked the resort for a one night stay. Wonderful grounds, staff is super friendly and helpful. We were able to get a late checkout so we could have some more time here. Beach is very close and it was fun watching people jump off black rock. Lots of options nearby for food and shopping. Also the luau at the Sheraton is right next door so super convenient!
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
Clean, friendly old-school Kaanapali resort. Be sure to get a room in one of the renovated buildings. Great location. Awesome new bar & restaurant. Very comfortable beds. Reliable WiFi. Pool is very basic with no food/drink service offered poolside, although there is a snack bar nearby. Do yourself a favor and attend the farewell ceremony. Very heartfelt. Overall, the Kaanapali is like stepping back in time. And that's not a bad thing.

Yelp
Booked a pretty decent deal through Costco that included a $250 food credit so you know I had to jump on it cause food out here expensive AF. Best part about this hotel is the location for sure... hotel itself is a little older on the exterior but the inside of our room was pretty darn nice and recently remodeled... so we loved that! What we didn't love was the construction right outside in their parking lot and that the pool was suuuppper chlorinated... it was awful! Otherwise, the bed was comfy which is always a huge thing for me and Huihui was amazing for food... their little kitchen near the pool was also super tasty! If you can look past the age of this hotel and tight parking spaces, you'll have a great stay here!

Yelp
I booked this hotel through Costco Travel and had to go with this place because: 1. My boyfriend said Kaanapali is the area we should stay 2. This was the cheapest one on the Costco travel listings 3. I made sure we got a renovated room with Partial Ocean View according to the reviews I read either here on Yelp or Costco Travel Overall, KBH blew my expectations. We loved it because the location was prime. We were walking distance to everything like Whaler's Village and Black Rock Beach. We were able to shop or pick up breakfast foods/drinks and bring our purchases back to our room. We were able to take our beach towels and swim over to Black Rock Beach so we can cliff jump once off the rocks :D The parking garage was easy to use the room key to go in and out throughout the day. We were able to find a parking spot on the same floor as our room and it was just light walking from our parked car to our room. The service was excellent because everyone was courteous and the cleaning crews always came through as expected. Our room was the Partial Ocean View and we loved waking up to the beautiful scenery of the palm trees, ocean waves, pool side and green lawn. The spacious bathroom had a rain shower and the tv had a good amount of channels to choose from. The AC was solid. Only thing was the pillows felt flat for me and having two pillows stacked together was too bulky. The restaurant HuiHui was amazing too! Reservations for dinner are highly recommended and it was so pleasant to just walk from our room to a really nice ocean front dinner with a delicious menu and fancy drinks. The meal was charged to our room so no worries there. The send off at the end was a thoughtful ceremony and receiving the nut lei was really heartwarming. It is traditional of the hotel to do that for their guests and I look forward to more stays here at KBH :)

Yelp
The location of this hotel is spectacular!! The beach access is phenomenal and it's very close to Black rock, which is a great area to snorkel. We watched Whales for hours when sitting on the beach. The staff are all very friendly. There is a lot of activities going on at the hotel, which is great for kids and families who don't plan on leaving the resort. The restaurant on property is good, but the menu is very limited for those who have young kids as it is a Asian infusion menu. I highly recommend attending the farewell ceremony. You receive a Kukui nut necklace and learn the history of leis. Overall, I am very happy with my stay. Pros: Great location, price, close to Whalers village, lots of areas to relax on property, friendly staff, easy parking Cons: Outdated rooms, very uncomfortable beds, terrible pillows, the rooms smell, small pool, no hot tub
google avatar

Barry P.

Yelp
The hotel is very well located with lots of food and shopping options close by. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. I don't think we ever passed one of the staff without being greeted. Loved our stay and the breathtaking view!
google avatar

Anna W.

Yelp
In my opinion this is the best place to stay! It has all you need except a hot tub! Beautiful grounds and classes for the kids or whoever. Biggest beach area! And friendliness hospitality. This was my second time at this hotel and can't wAit for the next time

Elly B.

Yelp
This hotel is amazing. It was perfect for us because it is on Kaanapali Beach and you have access to all the other hotels along the beach by the sidewalk that runs along the whole beach. But we loved this hotel because it's close to everything but the grounds of this hotel are quiet and laid back. The grounds in my opinion are more beautiful than all the other bigger fancier hotels. I like that the pool is set back away from the sidewalk unlike all the other hotels. The rooms are spacious, clean, renovated, and the bed was probably the most comfortable bed I ever slept on. Anywhere you are on this property you know you are in Hawaii and not just a fancy hotel. It definitely has the Hawaiian feel. Everyone that we encountered was so kind, warm, and welcoming here. The big restaurant at this hotel is Maui Brewing Co. This restaurant has delicious food and beautiful open air atmosphere. And again I like that it isn't right on the sidewalk with everyone walking by staring at you. If I ever get to come back to Maui I will be staying here for sure. The ceremony they gave us the day we left brought tears to my eyes. We will treasure our Kukui Nut Lei's forever and bring them back to have the white nut added if we are fortunate enough to come back.
google avatar

Michele T.

Yelp
Located along the Kaanapali beachwalk and short 10 minute walk to Whalers Village. Although the rooms could use a bit of updating, we enjoyed our stay. The kids enjoyed the pool and the beachfront. It was a quiet and peaceful stay. Appreciated the Hawaiian cultural activities they had available, and our family participated in the Kukui nut lei presentation. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here in October 2022 and we really enjoyed our time here. They have a great location right on the beach with spectacular sunsets and you are within walking distance to so many good restaurants and shops. I took full advantage of their location - relaxing on the beach, swimming, snorkeling, and running on the beach trail. The emerald green grounds on the property are well kept, surrounded with palm trees and lush tropical plants and flowers with many lounge chairs spread out to relax on. We also had a great breakfast at their restaurant Huiui. We loved the taro pancakes with purple yam sauce and coconut syrup. The restaurant is open air and faces the beach with stunning views. We stayed in the renovated Garden View room and really liked it - comfy bed, nice shower, modern TV (easy to connect your smart phone to it), and private lanai with lounge chairs. The only real complaint I can think of is the spotty wifi. We truly experienced the warm Hawaiian hospitality here from all the staff and would definitely stay here again. Be sure to do the farewell lei ceremony!
google avatar

Shelean F.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay here! Grounds are well kept with a lovely Hawaiian charm. I think it has the best location on the hotel row as far as beach and shops are concerned. Nice staff and clean rooms! Only thing I didn't like was hallways to our door over looking parking lot and hearing a few car alarms going off on the middle of the night. Nice overall stay and yes, I'd come back and stay here again.
google avatar

Zachary F.

Yelp
We just finished our 3 nights here. We absolutely loved the hotel, location and people working there. We have already made plans to come back next year

Yelp
So, I'm a little biased. I just love that this independent hotel hold it's own in the middle of all the fancy (and expensive) resorts on Kaanapali Beach. This hotel is right on the beach and the location simply cannot be beat. We stayed in mid September and had an ocean view room. We could not only see but hear the ocean which I loved. I opened the sliders every morning to listen to the waves and watch the sun rise. Heaven. The new Premium rooms are lovely and I hope they upgrade the rest of the hotel to this level. We were very comfortable for six nights and had everything we needed. Service was uniformly excellent. The Kaanapali Beach Hotel exemplifies the spirit of Aloha.
google avatar

Yelp
5 star hotel affordable pricing. Staff are 5 Star as well as the rooms and grounds. This was our default hotel from Costco because of the car shortage, but it is now our home away from home when on the Valley Isle. Staff are friendly, even when visitors aren't, and professional. Always willing to work with you. The Hawaiian plants on the grounds as well as the decor in the newly renovated rooms ensure this is a recognizable place for Hawaiians. Our room had a kupe`e niho `ilio. I was wowed. I asked for a room at least 3 stories up because of my tsunami experiences and they were happy to accommodate me so I can sleep at ease. This is only a block or so away from Whalers Village so shopping available nearby. Please see my review of Huihui Restaurant. Cant wait to come back again!

Alison S.

Yelp
This resort was an amazing place for our weeklong stay. The newly renovated rooms were very well done and beautiful, and there was a great view of the ocean. The staff was very nice and were very good at keeping on top of things. It is a very short walk to Black Rock where we had the best time snorkeling, even seeing a sea turtle on the way back to the beach. They pride themselves on being the most authentic Hawaiian hotel in Kaanapali and it definitely seemed like the employees had pride in their resort. Overall would highly recommend this resort to everyone, next time we go to Maui we'll be staying here again!
google avatar

Jody S.

Yelp
The wildfires kept us from staying at this hotel. We cancelled in the correct time frame, tourists were not being allowed to fly in right after the fires ...we were forced to go to another island. This place refuses to return our deposit ... no Aloha here. They want the money but not the tourists. Find another place, they don't honor their customers.
google avatar

Tyler P.

Yelp
Great service staff. Lovely grounds and pool. Tons of geckos and a resident cat. Huihui is straight seafood for dinner and pricy so warning there. But their melomelo takeout is good and fairly priced.

Yelp
There's a lot to like about Kaanapali Beach Hotel, so if you're shopping for a hotel in Maui, consider this one. This was our second trip to Maui and our previous stay was right next door at the Sheraton, booked via Costco. This time, Sheraton was out of our price range. They very smartly remodeled a portion of their hotel rooms around 2021 during COVID, and the remodeled rooms are lovely. We had a smallish closet but lots of dresser drawer space. The bathroom is a tad small but the stand up shower is very nice and it has both a shower and a wand on a hose, which makes it easy to clean up kids. Beds were very comfortable and the nightstand has a ton of outlets and USB ports to charge all your devices. The coffee maker area has a small mini fridge to store your leftovers and bottled water. There's even a ceiling fan with a remote, and the air conditioning in the room was pretty strong. There are 3 dining options at KBH. Huihui is the outdoor restaurant overlooking the ocean, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a poolside kitchen doing take-out only called Welowelo, and they JUST opened a breakfast buffet near the hotel lobby. The breakfast buffet is $30 per adult and $18 for kids, but it's pretty nice and has a egg/omelete/pancake station with all the coffee & juice you can drink plus cereal, fruit, bacon, etc. We had daily cleaning and towel changes. The pool is very kid-friendly and shaped like a whale. KBH doesn't charge a resort fee and the daily charge to park a car is pretty reasonable. Free WiFi in the rooms and it worked great. The biggest gain, though, is the location. Super close to Whalers Village (and the ABC store there) and a very short walk to Black Rock with tons of good snorkeling. We saw turtles every day. Don't forget the small store right outside the lobby! They have ice cream and all kinds of snacks, and they don't charge ripoff prices!
google avatar

Jeniffer M.

Yelp
This was our first visit. The staff were very friendly & knowledgeable. The grounds & our room were neatly kept. The only downside was our room had very thin walls and our neighbors were super loud. We even heard when they opened their dresser drawers. Overall, we enjoyed our visit & plan to come back next year with kids and grandkids.
google avatar

Yelp
Some great things about this hotel. Smaller more intimate feel than the giant resorts. Good location as it's tucked down by black rock so it's a bit less crowded. Staff and the "goodbye lei ceremony" are wonderful. Request a new renovated room. The old ones like we had are really bad. Originally placed in room 102. I'm not crazy picky (I camp etc). Couldn't stay in this room! The smell of urine was so strong it burned our eyes. They happily moved us to room 202. Better view but still old and stinky (not urine just mildew smell). This building needs a gut. Not a $489 room at all plus you have to add $44 in room taxes and $21 in state tax and $13 in county taxes so that's actually a $567 room! Beds are very comfy! Showers are tiny! Going back at the same time next year for the same medical conference but will stay at the Hyatt for the discounted rate (conference).

Yelp
Absolutely loved my stay here! It will be forever etched in my mind. I dream of coming back

Yelp
Was a little hesitant to book this place, but so glad I did. The location and price are no brainers, but I was a bit worried about the age of the hotel. As soon as you walk into the lobby the age of the place is obvious, but you are greeted by super friendly staff and great service. This continues throughout your stay. We were part of a large group and requested adjoining rooms. My immediate family was placed in the older, non-renovated building (they refer to the building as "traditional") and the rest of my family was booked into the renovated buildings (about 75% of the hotel is renovated). Yes, the room is outdated, and the bathroom is a bit dingy and has a tiny shower, but the room is comfortable and spacious. It has everything you need, the balcony is large and the views (at least from the third floor) are amazing. The rest of my family had renovated rooms that were nice and had rainfall showers, but honestly our room was a bit bigger and frankly had better views. For some reason, we received a bottle of champagne on our first day, and my family in the renovated rooms did not. Perhaps it's to apologize for getting the older room. It wasn't necessary, but it was a nice touch. You are also invited to a lei ceremony upon your checkout, but we didn't have time to participate. The hotel grounds are beautiful and immaculate. Plumeria trees and flowers provide shade for the many lounge chairs strewn about, and the pool (shaped like a whale) is just big enough for a dip before heading to Kaanapali Beach just a few steps away. There is a breakfast buffet offered that we didn't take part in because it is pricey, as well as a quick service window for quick breakfast bites and coffee. The pool also has a snack bar that serves food and drinks. The apparently new and beautiful HuiHui restaurant looked good, but was booked solid during our stay. We did go to the bar/ lounge one night (where you can order food without a reservation) and had a few drinks (15 bucks a pop, not cheap but on par with Vegas). The bartenders were awesome, so it's definitely worth at least a night. You are also a three minute walk to Whaler's Village, an upscale mall with stores and restaurants. Everything is tourist prices, but there is a small food court with food options that are a bit cheaper. Joey's Kitchen is great and my wife enjoyed the Poke place. There are also fast food options in Lahaina which is a 5 min. drive away. Another great thing about the resort is that there is no resort fee, and the parking is reasonable, at least compared to Waikiki. Most places in Waikiki you are paying 30-50 bucks a night for parking plus a resort fee. Kaanapali Beach Hotel is 18 bucks for self park and 24 for valet. My last bit of advice is that if you plan to go to Hana or Haleakala crater, understand that Kaanapali is located on the extreme opposite end of the island. These will be full day trips. While they are not too far milage wise, there is really only one road going in and out of the Kaanapali/ Lahaina area. If there is an accident on the road, or just commuter traffic, a trip to airport can take an hour or more. I would absolutely stay at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel again. It has everything you need and you aren't paying double or triple the prices you are paying at the nearby Westin or Sheraton. Yes, those places are nice, but if you are looking to save a bit so you can do more things while you are there, this is the place to book.

Yelp
A very old facility and really old rooms, and really old stained carpets. Felt the need to wear flip flops the whole time while in our room and in the shower. On the upside, the staff was very friendly and always helpful. The breakfast buffet was pretty good though not huge with their variety of offering. Nice beach front and gardens.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our room, even though we didn't get the requested adjoining room with the other half of our family and were not told we couldn't get rollaway beds in the ocean view rooms. Beautiful view, beautiful beach, beautiful grounds. Be sure to reserve cabanas before you go. It is much nicer to have the protection of shade and chairs from the wind and blown sand. The rental chairs and umbrellas also sellout early. Don't bring your own snorkel gear or rent SUP or kayaks from the place that delivers. It's a pain in the butt to deal with, although less expensive. Definitely rent snorkel gear from the rental hut and swim over near Black Rock. That was the best part of the beach for me, even though I forgot my contacts. The rooms are nice, balconies nice, bathrooms nice. They provide moisturizing shampoo and body wash. I don't know how they deal with the sand that gets trapped in your swimsuit. It's unavoidable if you get in the water. Your room key gets you in and out of the garage. We were able to park on the same level as our room easily. It is windy everywhere, especially the beach, so bring headbands or hats, and plenty of sunscreen to protect yourself from the very strong sun. This is not a party destination. We were in bed each night by 8:30pm and slept well. There are USB ports on the side of the nightstand and on the clock. There's an ABC store at Whaler's Village, maybe the best place there. They have snacks and suncreen and head bands and postcards. Avoid the shave ice there. No aloha. We had dinner at the Hula Grill at 4:30pm because we didn't have a reservation. Not impressed at all. We also did happy hour at Leilani's which was decent. The music was way loud right in front of us. We took the Maui Bus from Whaler's Village to Front Street which was convenient and inexpensive, though there wasn't much beyond touristy crap on Front Street. I don't recommend it. Don't miss the Kukui Nut Lei ceremony when you check out. It was very nice.

Yelp
We stayed in the newly remodeled wing. In front of our hotel, the snorkeling was good- we spent time around the bend from Black Rock - and of course we watched everyone jumping off... especially in late afternoons. We dined at Hui Hui - - our entrees were delicious, in particular, the fresh Ahi. We walked daily....When walking toward Napili we found each beach area is delightfully different. We also walked to Castaways (shuffleboard awaits you) a few times where lounging & snorkeling is great fun! We highly recommend this property...booked it via Costco Travel

Yelp
They want money from the tourists, but not the actual tourists... Tourists beware...I booked this hotel through Expedia, and because of the wildfires on Maui, had to cancel the trip. I canceled with Expedia early enough to be due a FULL refund of what I paid to the hotel. The hotel has refused to give me a refund, all I got was the runaround from everyone I contacted. With all of the other amazing hotels on Maui, do yourself a favor and stay at one with some Aloha, because you won't find any here.

Yelp
2nd return visit to this hotel, was here just before Covid-19 hit, glad they put the downtime to good use, upgrading 2 of the buildings and adding new dining choices and refreshing other areas. Check in was a breeze, only took a few minutes. We used valet and bell hop on arrival. I had the un renovated garden view (called traditional now) last visit and this visit had the renovated garden view, wow is all I can say. The room renovation is beautiful, top to bottom is renovated, neutral colors but still Hawaiian pieces here and there to remind you that your in Hawaii. Especially love the new bathrooms, rainforest shower head was amazing. The bedding, mattress and pillows were Devine. I noticed the new casual Welowelo closed at 6pm which is kind of early, not sure if it's low staffed Covid-19 hours or not. We visited it for dinner on our first night, arrived at 5.35pm and ordered the Ruben sandwich and the Welowelo burger both with fries. The server was a lady, didn't catch her name, no welcome or hello or thank you, she seemed exhausted and overworked, I felt for her but I also am in customer service and the customer should not need to know your having a rough time. Food came out to us at 605pm and we ate nearby outside. Food was delicious, fries especially good. Ate at the buffet for breakfast just one day, $30pp is pretty standard. Host was pleasant. Guy on omelette station got all of our orders wrong, incorrect fillings and undercooked eggs. He was very smiley but just didn't really understand what we were asking for or how to cook eggs correctly. His pancakes were good. One of the servers cleared our table and reset it while we waited at omelette station, threw away our drinks and fruit, when we mentioned it there was no apology or offer to replace our drinks, in fact we didn't see him again to clear anything. We ate dinner at Huihui, had outside table right next to entertainment. Our server was ok, not overly attentive, didn't check back on how apps, entree or dessert was or offered drink refills. I had the salt and pepper wings to start, they were tiny wings, but the flavors were good, then I had the hand line 'ahi which was delicious. Garlic mash was creamy and nice, then I ended with banana bread ice cream sandwich, ice cream was super frozen so needed to wait for it to defrost some more. Johan started with short rib bao which he loved, then had Koala half chicken which was a generous portion and yummy, he finished with pineapple upside down bread pudding, good flavor but a bit dry. Live entertainment was of a high caliber. One morning we needed to have breakfast at Huihui as the buffet is not open every day. Server was again inattentive, did not offer coffee refills. Both breakfasts had issues and needed to be sent back, we both had over medium eggs but they were barely sunny side up and flipped, zero color and egg white was very snotty. Had to ask another server for help as ours was absent most of the time. He finally came over and once examining them reluctantly took them back, we both opted for scrambled this time round, and they were delicious. We went to our first restringing session for our leis which is a nice touch. Like the fact there is a guest laundry too. Overall had a great time, housekeeping and front office staff were great, the rest are not so good, which is disappointing.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our time at the hotel. Their tagline is that they're the most Hawaiian hotel and we believe it! It's not your Sheraton or Hilton. They pride themselves on the Hawaiian culture and art and showcase it all throughout the hotel and rooms. We booked through Costco and got a great deal in one of their renovated rooms closer to the ocean. There was a great view of the ocean and you could even see the mountain too. Everything was clean and the employees were all really nice and helpful. They try their best to make you feel welcomed and that you're having a great time. The hotel is right in front of the beach and you can stroll right onto it. They provide towels for you! The beach in front is beautiful and right next to Black Rock, which is a well known snorkeling spot with turtles. We saw turtles and fish everywhere! The hotel was a great price for the value and there is parking on site as well. It's in a great location too. You can walk right to Whaler's Village mall and grab dinner or go shopping. On our last day they do a send off ceremony for guests where they present a lei and tell you a bit about the culture and history of Hawaii with a beautiful song. We loved our time there and hope others get to enjoy it too Their restaurant was also really good! Make a reservation and try to get a seat to see the sunset and if they have any performances. If you care, the beds were a bit soft for us.

Yelp
The resort itself is wonderful with mostly upgraded room that are spacious and clean the housekeeping staff are excellent. There's plenty of excellent dining within walking distance and the beach is literally almost at your doorstep. The only reason I rated this establishment at a 3 is because of what outrigger did to the on site restaurant. It's an abomination compared to what used to be the Hui Hui. What once was an elegant Hawaiian motif' interior that was furnished with oh so comfortable seating, and the best cuisine in all of Maui, is now furnished in sports bar, hard BLUE steel chairs and the atmosphere of a sports bar meant for millennials with loud reggae music. NO BREAKFAST is served there, and if you don't want to sit at the bars ( from 11 to 4) you have to stand in line, order then you can sit at a table. After 4 they attempt to emulate a reasonable restaurant sans live music with loud booming reggae continuing on. I never ate there but my companions did and gave their meal a 2 as did other guests. My companions have stayed at the KBH for over 25 years, us twice. We have all agreed that this would be the last time. It's a crying shame that outrigger turned that restaurant into a brew pub.

Yelp
Stayed in the renovated oceanfront rooms. Great rooms. Great beds and housekeeping. There is no breakfast anymore hotel owns hui hui which I don't recommend. Front desk kind of unsure what the room situation is like I believe. At least the person I talked to she didn't know the difference between ocean view and ocean front. When I was there checking in.

Yelp
The KBH is WONDERFUL!! I can't say enough good things about this hotel. So I shall share a top 5 list of why you should stay here when in Maui. 1) Location location location! It's in the heart of Kaanapali. Close to Lahaina and Kapalua (about 15 mins to each) it was easy to access the best of Maui. You can walk 5 mins and get to Whalers Village with upscale shops and restaurants. 2) The service! The entire staff is kind and welcoming and extremely helpful. It was cool to be recognized as a repeat guest, and receive a warm welcome. 3) The beach. It is one of the best, even amongst the "fancy" hotels on the same strip. Smooth sand, easy access to an activities vendor Hale Huaka'i where you can book a cabana for the day, a SUP lesson, canoe or snorkeling equipment. We booked a private cabana for a couple of days which was awesome, providing shade to my fair skinned husband. It made for excellent napping space too. 4) The hotel itself. They had a recent renovation and the rooms were modern (AC, environmentally efficient power controls, mini fridge, keurig) while preserving some aspects of the Hawaiian culture. Our room featured a makamae (precious gifts) shadow box that showcased traditional Hawaiian tools like the upena (fishing nets). Framed vintage Hawaiian botanical prints added color, and I received a coffee table book of the same vintage botanical prints which I've been enjoying reading at home. I stayed in an ocean front room in the Papaku building and it was glorious to open my sliding glass doors and see rainbows and palm trees swaying in the breeze. We had a room directly overlooking the beach. Each room has a balcony to sit out on and it was nice to start my days sipping coffee out there. 5) The on-site restaurant HuiHui. I think my best meals during my recent visit were here. The space itself is stunning with ocean front views and tons of open air and outdoor space for guests. I like that they have ukulele music every night for dinner and traditional dancers as well. Everything in the menu from Breakfast to Dinner are creative and a tasty fusion of mainstream and Hawaiian. I highly recommend the short ribs (which had a sauce that had hints of creamy coconut milk) , the pork belly skewers, sticky ribs, lobster dumplings, the shrimp opae pasta (don't be afraid to get dirty with your hands!). To be honest we tried about 75% of the menu during our stay and it was all fresh and delicious. They also have the welowelo which is close to the pool and offers more casual lunch and early dinner fare like rice bowls, fries and pizza. Great if you're looking for something easy to takeaway and eat on the beach or if you're hanging by the pool with the kids. So on your next trip to Maui, plan to stay at the KBH, the most Hawaiian hotel in Maui!

Yelp
Very nice location, recent renovation, and great restaurant (for dinner)... staff was "Super Aloha" upon check-in... Full ocean view in a "premium" room for $800/night and the sound of waves and the tradewinds was great, UNTIL... 3:15am to about 3:45am when the commercial-grade vacuum cleaner that sounded like a leaf blower started just under my open lanai screened door!! I called the front desk around 3:30am to find out what was going on, and no one answered the phone. Upon sharing the issue at checkout, the front desk person laughed it off like it was nothing. Called back to speak to a manager, and they don't return calls either. Check was cashed already. Book the Sheraton, Ali'i, Aston, or any other of the Lahaina/Kaanapali resort hotels and skip this one, especially if you're kama'aina.

Yelp
This was my first time to Hawaii. This hotel was beautiful and welcoming. The rooms are extremely clean and the bed is so comfortable. The beach is so spectacular. The pool is awesome the food is great. The staff is beyond amazing. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for making my stay a dream come true!!!

Yelp
We finally got a check refund 4 months after we cancelled. But it was impossible to speak to anybody to get an update on the status, and no one would call us back. I thought we wouldn't ever receive a refund and had let it go already. So when the check arrived in the mail we were relieved. But I would be wary to stay here after the experience

Yelp
Hotel room: blah (kinda old and undergoing upgrade) Pool: cannot bring your own liquor to the pool (have to buy from them. Yet people are smoking weeds in their room and we can smell marijuana from our balcony) Music: we have a small speaker to play music to our group of 6 people by the pool (we were told not to have music by the pool. The day before, there were a group of locals hanging by the pool and they have their music blasting off but weren't told by the staff) Recommendation: stay away from this hotel. Stay at the Ritz or the Marriott. Much nicer and friendlier.

Jay N Z.

Yelp
It's a great hotel, beautiful location, nice room, but don't sleep with the lanai door open! The beautiful sounds of the oceanfront and wind at night was disturbed at 3:30am by a commercial vacuum cleaner (leaf blower?) for about 15minutes straight, right outside my open-air "peaceful/idyllic" night, then couldn't go back to sleep. Tried calling the front desk to seek relief, but I guess they were sleeping too! No answer from the front desk when I called, and they made no effort to rectify an $800/night fail when I checked out. Especially for kama'aina, this was a total disappointment.

Yelp
We stayed here in beginning of July because of a sweet Costco deal we got. It included a free night, resort fees covered, rental car, $50 per day food credit and $100 tour credit. Very hard to beat that deal since the post-pandemic caused rental car prices to surge. And the food credit was very convenient. It covered many breakfasts, a lunch and dinner. You're gonna want to eat all over Maui so it was the perfect amount to cover at least one meal per day. We stayed in a nicely new renovated room. Its up to date, plenty of space, big TV and a rain shower! There is a brand new restaurant, which faces the beach. They were only open for a week before we got there, so understandably there were some issues. The only other food option was a take out window by the pool. Both had really good tasting food. We also loved the beach access. It's right on Kaanapali beach with the rest of the hotels. And two hotels down, is a big shopping mall with a some restaurants. The only things we didn't like was the pool was really small. We didn't bother going in. And the lobby is outdated with not much in there. Sounds like they are planning on renovating it.

Yelp
How this hotel gets the ratings it did is beyond me. $15/beach chair rental that they take away at 4pm on the dot. 1 beach towel per person per day They nickel and dime you for everything. Food is so bad at the restaurant Musty old rooms, terrible tiny bathrooms. Stay away. Rates absolutely do not even justify the poor quality.

Yelp
Aloha. We stayed here last year and it was a nice stay during Easter. We stayed here this week after their major remodel and it was even better! Beautiful grounds, warm whale pool, new restaurant Huihui (which was so ono) and very clean and new rooms! Our new favorite hotel to stay at. We ate at the breakfast buffet which was nice and convenient. And being able to walk to Whalers Village is great. Great job stepping it up with the new renovation!! It will always be our first choice in lodging. Mahalo!!

Yelp
A lot of mis-information in the advertisement at this hotel. Everywhere you read "come be here". I have came here for 20 years with my kids, and this time was very different. In my 8 days, I saw the restaurant out front broken into while sitting on my balcony at 6am. A glass was then thrown at security who was following them on a golf cart. When walking the beach path at 7pm, a homeless man followed us back to our room. My kids used to walk alone 12 years old in the beach path, and now it doesn't feel safe. We triple checked every day to make sure our hotel door is locked at night- which we used to never lock in my past times staying here. People being housed here are walking their dogs around the resort, letting their dogs go to the bathroom between lawn chairs, and continuing to walk and not pick it up. There is no pool bar to eat at or order from, even though they are advertising. the restaurant on the grounds does not open till 4:30 daily. Note: the resort does serve food daily, but only to people displaced from the fire. It is not the people who lost their home in the fire, it is the homeless camps that were in Lahaina that have now moved along this entire beach and are wandering through this resort. I understand they have just been through a devastating wildfire in August, but that does not dismiss what is happening here. I am from California, and we have been through wildfires yearly and understand the community impact. Natural disasters occur everywhere, but don't advertise to come when it's not safe to be here. We love this island and want to support it, and I really hope things get better for all soon.

Yelp
FIRST -- this review is for the hotel, NOT the restaurant. If only the hotel was half as good as our HuiHui (restaurant) dinner experience. The star rating is given because of the price we paid. If we paid $200 or less a night, I'd rate it higher, but for what we paid, my expectations are MUCH higher. It's among the more "affordable" properties at $300+ per night. That will get you a room that has not yet been renovated, with a cramped bathroom stall for the toilet and shower, safe that locks with a physical key (that you'll be charged $35 to replace if you lose it), a blow dryer that is about as efficient as a fan and carpet that feels damp all the time. As an added bonus, you could be in a building with no elevator and the front desk agent will ask you "if that's okay" once you've spent 15 minutes getting checked in. Our smoke detector started beeping like the battery was dead on night two. Maintenance's solution? Just remove the detector from the room. We remained without one for the rest of our stay. How would a code inspector feel about that?! Self parking is available for $18/day vs. $24 or $26 for valet. Be warned the spots are small and the gate is unreliable. That's annoying. The room cleaning policy is ridiculous. It's posted at the check in desk, but was never referenced, so we thought they forgot to make our bed the first day. I didn't see it until we checked out. They say it's to conserve resources, but for the price we paid, I don't think it's much to ask for the sheets and blankets to be straightened and the pillows fluffed since they come in and replace the towels anyway! Access to the beach is close and easy. A short walk to the rocks provides great snorkeling. You can rent equipment too, but PRO TIP: bring your own so you can go as early as you want! The water is calmer and clearer right at sun up! There is only one towel station for the pool and beach and they do run out of towels. Unacceptable when you're spending as much as you do. The pool could be bigger and gets crowded easily. Chairs will also fill, so claim one early! If you walk to the nearby ABC store, you can stock up on booze and soda -- a huge money saver for beach and pool beverages. Overall, if this was an economy property, it would be just fine. But for what you pay, you do not get what you deserve.

Yelp
I had the fortune to stay here one night in May on my post pandemic trip to Maui. What a treat! Now I need to be very clear on some things. This is not a fancy sparkly new hotel. It is an older, retro,well-kept, authentic Hawaiian hotel. Quite frankly, I love that! Love love love! I also love the real aloha spirit that permeates everybody who works here. Seriously, from person to I met in the parking lot to the bell person, the waiters, Front desk... Everyone! It was pretty amazing.I had a little hiccup with my room--A strange noise coming from another room--And they responded immediately. The grounds are green and the pool is warm and inviting. I didn't have trouble getting a chaise lounge to relax in. Although it is on the beach, sometimes it is nice not to have to deal with sand to cool off! The best thing is a location though! You are literally on Kaanapali Beach about a five minute walk from Whalers Village or Black rock. Kaanapali Beach is amazing. They have umbrella/loungers for rent at prices that are almost HALF of what they are at the Whaler next door. They have a full restaurant although I really didn't have much there because I wasn't hungry that night. I had an appetizer and scoop of ice cream! Both were fine of course. What they REALLY need is a real AUTHENTIC Tiki bar! Why? Because this is JUST the vibe for that. If you know what I'm talking about, you'll agree! And I don't mean a bar that sells a mai tai--I mean a REAL tiki bar. Pleeeeease? Highly recommend this little hotel! TIP: Walk to the Monkeypod and try the Mai Tai with liliquoi foam. You'll thank me later!

Yelp
Very nice location near the beach. Complex is nice and I like they offer cultural information. However our particular building looked like it needed a face lift 10 years ago. But it is a more affordable option if you are here to enjoy the island and not sit in your room.
