I chose this restaurant to celebrate my best friend’s 60th birthday, booking a month in advance and requesting a window seat. As with most dining places, I received the usual email and WhatsApp confirmation, including a note on the dress code which I appreciated as a standard practice.
When we arrived, the first thing that caught my attention was the noise from a group seated in the bar section. I assumed we’d be given a quieter window seat, but instead, we were placed right next to them, separated only by a decorative partition. To make things worse, I noticed that some window seats were still available. Why would the staff seat us beside a table that was clearly loud from the start?
Adding to my surprise, the loudest person in that group did not even follow the dress code wearing something close to a sleeveless top and shorts. Is that acceptable, or is there a double standard at play? I honestly wondered if that guest was the owner at 1st till I asked the waiter.
On the positive side, ordering began well, and most dishes were enjoyable. The only disappointment was the Murray cod, which was overly salty especially the vegetables, as if a half teaspoon of salt had been spilled on them.
The service, however, was inconsistent. The server was polite during ordering but lacked attentiveness afterward. I had to pour my own sparkling water after the initial pour, stack empty plates aside waiting for someone to clear them, and even request for the table to be cleaned. This would be understandable if the restaurant were full, but it wasn’t.
As for the noise, it was horrendous throughout the meal so overwhelming that it overshadowed everything else. Please know where you are, basic etiquette should apply, regardless of nationality: pls show respect for others and yourself, you are not at home, learn to behave especially this is a shared dining space.
The restaurant did acknowledge the issue and offered a 10% discount, which I appreciate, but honestly, if I had known it would be this noisy, I wouldn’t have chosen this place for such a special occasion even if the meal had been complimentary. Food was good, but the overall experience, particularly the noise and service was disappointing, my worst dining experience. (Window seat? Scenic view? Nope. Just got the loudest view ever.)
I would not recommend this restaurant for celebrating special occasions because you can’t predict if you’ll be seated next to a loud group with no sense of decency. For a regular meal? Sure, why not.
Thank you for the complimentary cake.
