Where to Find Halal Food and Restaurants in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Kabob Lounge does wraps, salads, pizzas (Margherita to pesto chicken and even a gyro pizza), and combo rice plates like chicken kabob and your choice of gyro or doner. Its website lists a ‘secret menu’ that includes a California Gyro Doner Wrap and a Spicy Doner Bowl with a side of hummus." - Candice Woo

Google
Their Persian Pizza was good, and it is relatively large! We ordered 2 for 4 people and we took almost a whole pizza home! I wish their crust was thinner as it was a little under cooked. Their appetizers are good as well. But the downside is their hours and I hope they extend it. Nice and friendly staff and good service. Overall, I would recommend this place, specially for Persian pizza.

Ghazāl K.

Google
This 1-Star feedback is ONLY regarding the Persian Pizza (the only item I have so far tried). While it smelled and looked delicious, it was extremely greasy. Like in a very bad way! No matter how much of the grease I tried to absorb with paper towels, it just didn’t go away. Couldn’t swallow more than a couple of pieces. The grease was coming from the meat (meat substitute) inside the pizza. Please see photo. It was not meat! Maybe a %5 lean meat!! The rest was pure fat. What did you really put in there?! Leftover of whatever you didn’t need in the kitchen maybe?! We expect much more from a $30 pizza!! Regardless, what I loved about the place was the cleanliness (spotless), and the lady at the register (Niloufar) who was very sweet. But the pizza… won’t buy again.

Google
The Persian pizza and sandwich were absolutely amazing. One of the best Persian pizzas in the state. Totally recommend it. But the service is very slow. You might need to wait 30-40 minutes, even if there are no other customers there.

Google
I called and spoke with Pedram to order two Persian pizzas, and by the time I arrived, they were already boxed up, hot, and ready to go. We really enjoyed the pizzas! Each ingredient tasted fresh, with the perfect amount of Persian mortadella and hot dog, plus a generous amount of cheese, mushrooms, and black olives. I requested no bell peppers due to personal preference, and the crust was crunchy and delicious. The restaurant was sparkling clean, and Pedram was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Thank you—we'll definitely be ordering again!

Google
We’ve eaten here 2 years ago and once again today. The quality has stayed quite the same, which is that of being pretty good. We ordered family plate and beef burgers and they both were excellent. The family plate was huge and had tons of meat and the burgers were juicy and flavorful and came with a lot of fries. I def would recommend that people come here and I will certainly come back if I ever come back to visit San Diego.

Google
A nice little cozy place to enjoy Persian food. Very nice and clean place with the wonderful customer service.

Google
A group of friends stopped by for dinner at Kabob lounge. The food is much better with the new owners(family owned). The place was clean, the service is fast and staff is friendly. We will definitely go back and recommend the restaurant.

Google
Nice place! Happy for the vegetarian plate option with more than just onions. Wait was a little long but it was all good.
google avatar

Yelp
I was really happy with having a vegetarian roasted veggie plate (not always the case). This is not negative feedback just wishful thinking: i wish there was more than one tomato, and zuchini instead of squash but i was happy nonetheless and that is only preference. The meat options look very good. Portions were generous and i even donated some to squirrels! See video lol.. too cute to miss Wait was a little long and the restaurant is located near offices so location wise nothing special but its good!

Yelp
I purchased a gift certificate and they said they cannot accept it because the ownership changed. The new owner purchased any outstanding liabilities that the company had. Otherwise they can just sell gift cards and then "change ownership" and keep all of the money. Sadly don't know how the food is because they wouldn't let me use the gift card that I purchased. The woman didn't even offer me any type of discount or anything.

Yelp
First time here and wow, the food is amazing! There are so many options to choose from, including fresh pizza. I got the chicken salad and it was hands down the best salad I've had in a long time. The flavor of the chicken was incredible, the pita bread was warm and soft, and the dressing tied everything together perfectly. My friend ordered the Margherita pizza and said it was fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. We were all really impressed. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Food was hot and delicious. Comes with yogurt sauce, but you'll have to ask for the garlic sauce if you want it. Plenty of parking in front. They take credit cards. There is also a fountain machine to get your own drinks.

Serdar A.

Yelp
I think quality has gone significantly since the last time I was here which was 2 years ago. Ordered falafel plate and a baklava. Baklava had a stale taste and very mushy and costs $4 a piece. Falafel did not taste good. Their pilav lacked salt and tasted like asian rice with some saffron coloring. The two little pieces of pita did not taste fresh. Now the good things: salad was tasty so are the dolmas and tzathki sauce. Service was nice. Not returning as there are better alternatives within 5 minutes drive on the other side of 56 in Carmel Valley.

Yelp
Excellent casual kabob spot in upscale shopping center and neighborhood! Will be back
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Their Persian pizza was delicious but what was amazing was their baklava. The baklava was filled with walnut filling and gave baklava-fooman koloocheh fusion vibes! Sooo good!
google avatar

Deborah A.

Yelp
Took a while to get our food but once we did we were happy. Had the chicken wrap & chicken bowl. Delicious.

Yelp
3.5 it's a great quick spot. Food was pretty good but nothing over the top or something I'd be recommending to friends to try out.

Parsa A.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! I had an amazing experience at Kebab Lounge in San Diego! The Persian pizza and koobideh pizza are simply the best I've had in the US, even compared to what I've had in Iran. The flavors are authentic, and contrary to some reviews, I found it not greasy at all--just perfect. Highly recommend this place! looking forward to trying the other items on the menu!

Zahra F.

Yelp
very good food, very nice staff, the pizza was great espically the Persian one. wish there was a one closer to my house. Near beach as well

Yelp
Convenient spot for lunch when in the area with covered parking. Order at a quick walk up counter and choose a table inside (mostly 2 seater fast food type tables), or choose a wired table with an umbrella outside. They brought our food to us and helped clear our table when we were done. If you haven't checked out the plates, they're substantial servings and was pleasantly surprised with the salad size. - Chicken Donar Kabob is the most popular. Generous amount of juicy chicken but thought it could be slightly more tender - Beef Donar Kabob was also recommended
google avatar

Reza F.

Yelp
Best Kabob in town! Excellent koobideh (ground beef) and chicken kabob. The kabobs are juicy and flavorful. Everything is fresh and made to order. The portions are excellent and the service is friendly.

Hoyee L.

Yelp
The food was delicious. The service was quick. The Ambiance was lively cause it was quiet in the beginning but it became noisy towards the end.

Yelp
I'd driven past many times and this is my first visit. What took me so long? This is a beautiful restaurant, so much wood and metal with the design. I'd expected it to be a little more busy, but maybe I'd just missed the lunch rush. I ordered a Greek salad and added chicken kabob. Although it took a little longer than anticipated, just wow -- such a generous portion! And the meat was pretty much fork tender. A small touch that made me smile: when the lady at the counter was clearing a table, she made a point to stop by and ask if everything was okay. As the only person up front she kept busy and engaged. This is also an exceptionally clean restaurant. Definitely want to return sometime soon.

Yelp
Tucked away in Carmel valley. Kabob lounge has a great variety of dishes with fresh ingredients. I've been coming here over the years and I've always had a great experience with their food and their staff.
google avatar

Niloufar G.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years, but I haven't been here probably over six months. I don't know if the ownership has changed, but nothing was really good today. My mom's kebab plate did not come with grilled tomatoes or pita bread as it normally did. We had to ask for it. My wrap was super soggy, and when I asked for no onions, they gave me onions. The french fries were super soggy and not crispy at all. Everything just was not good. I don't think I'll be coming back unfortunately. This used to be our go to place to come and I don't think so.

Yelp
As someone who works in the office complex where the Kabob Lounge is located, I can confidently say that it's become one of our office's 'go - to' spots. Here's why: 1. Delicious food: The food is consistently very good, Whether you want kebabs, mediterranean dishes, pizza's or burgers, they've got you covered. 2. Reasonable prices. 3. Indoor and outdoor seating. Nice ambiance indoors and fresh air outside. 4. Well maintained and clean 5. The owner, Pedram, has a warm and professional demeanor. He clearly strives to provide great food and great service, and from my perspective, he delivers. He clearly cares about his patrons. If you appreciate good quality Mediterranean cuisine, the Kabob Lounge will not disappoint.

Navid Y.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. I got beef kabob and chicken combination and it was absolutely delicious. Owner is very welcoming, nice and watching the employee's performance perfectly. Prices are reasonable. I will be back again.

Shiva J.

Yelp
Love this place! The food is great, the atmosphere is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is wonderful. Under the new management, the quality has improved even more. The Persian pizza is a must-try!
google avatar

Kemal S.

Yelp
We used to be regulars but then they got cheap and cut the kids' meal price in half and then removed it altogether. Haven't been back since... So, I figured to call them and they still don't offer it. They are near our home and it was a convenient option. Food is mid anyhow really.

Yelp
We went here for dinner last night and got a large house salad. I added a chicken kabob and gyro meat on top. It was gigantic. The chicken kabob was cooked on a metal kabob for even cooking throughout the chicken breast. It was the best, most tasty, most juicy large chicken breast kabob I have ever tried. It was large and savory. Luna Grill and Daphnis do not compare at all. Great job! The gyros were ok and they gave a great potion. I would have preferred more charred pieces of gyro meat. Also they did not offer any sauces like a garlic or yogurt sauce for the meat or pita. Service was mediocre at best and they never checked up on how things were. Some employees were on their cell phone as they worked and cleaned the floors. It was kind of weird since I was the only one there. After 7:35 pm I felt unwelcome and rushed to get out of their store. They wanted to clean and close up. Overall, great chicken kabob and awesome portions here. It could use side sauces for dipping. Service today was mediocre but I'm hopeful it's just a one off experience. If service continues to be mediocre again when I return star ratings will go down. I'll head next door for dinner for award winning sushi.

Yelp
Happened upon this place after Yelp-searching for food in the area. Kabob Lounge was just around the corner. Clean and open dining area and patio next door to some Sushi bubbles. Service was somewhat prompt during this lunch-hour order frenzy. Probably the best chicken kabob ever of breast meat (may have been tenderloin). Not dry at all. Very juicy and flavorful. If we lived closer, we would frequent rather often. Good food. Got super busy before we were finished. Dicks

Yelp
Delicious Persian pizza with a perfect blend of ingredients and amazing dough! incredibly welcoming, making each visit a pleasure. You won't regret coming here. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Pretty ok. I wish they had more sauces to choose from. I ordered a side of hummus with my order and my husband and I both got the gyro plate. He liked it a lot and I thought it was pretty good. The rice with the dates is delicious that you can add for 2$ is really good. My kiddo loved their gyro wrap and my other kid loved the hamburger. Prices are pretty reasonable and the inside of the restaurant has sumac on the table which is nice and you don't see that to often.
google avatar

Karen R.

Yelp
Amazing food here everytime. We have ordered almost everything here and can say fully the food here is so flavorful and yummy. I especially love the gyro salad and the koobideh plate with rice and salad. Hummus appetizer is absolutely amazing along with their dolmadas. Please come here!

Jared J.

Yelp
Disappointing meal. The salmon was mushy and seasoning was not good, The side dishes were ok.
google avatar

Ellen T.

Yelp
We ordered two plates to go . Beef and chicken gyro. Beef was ok , chicken was not what I expected it kind of reminded me of braised chicken. (that could just be my bad on ordering the wrong thing since they had a decent number of chicken options ) The rice was dry and they forgot the yogurt sauce and the pita bread in our order. The salad also was clearly old and had sat in the fridge for days since the cucumbers and tomatoes in it had that slime u see when they go bad . Needless to say salad had to be thrown out. So disappointed since there were a decent number of good reviews. Won't be returning again

Jayne L.

Yelp
What happened to the quality of food at Kabob Lounge? We used to go here all the time. The tandoori chicken kabob plate is awful, soaked with red food color and tasteless. The salad is drenched in very vinegary dressing. The service was good and the staff was nice though. But we won't ever come back here.
google avatar

Jean-Claude B.

Yelp
Always a 5. Great tasty food and appetizers with generous portions. Great place for takeout or a quick bite. Very efficient and friendly Owners. Great family business.
google avatar

Silvia L.

Yelp
I thought it is a restaurant when I place pick up order on Uber Eat. However, it is kinda like fast food spot. Kabob was ok but not great. And inform falafel was disappointed.

Yoshie O.

Yelp
We went back kabab lounge we order combo and Persian pizza!!! Fresh delicious food and clean inside restaurants. Owners pedram was great customers service and care customers service very much. We will come back again!!!

John C.

Yelp
Great food , fast service! I'm staying in the area for short while and found this place by chance. What a great find ! Good food, great flavor, reasonable prices. Chatted with the owner for a bit while my order was being cooked, great guy. I will definitely be stopping by again on my next trip into town.

Sam M.

Yelp
It's a okay place. Cashier I think he is the owner as well not very friendly and food is okay. We ordered chicken kebab it was not cooked very well but outside was burned.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
This place gives Iranian food a bad name. Has the owner ever tried Persian food from other Persian restaurants in town? Does he/she know what Persian food is supposed to taste like? I Ordered boneless chicken kabob and it was awful. The chicken had a weird smell and you could tell it was old. The rice was also old and tasteless. It's a shame because it is around the corner from my house and honestly, I would be a frequent customer had their food been any good. Every now and then I decide to give it a chance and yet remained disappointed. :(

Yelp
I used to work across the street so it was convenient to stop in here, and we always had it catered in for meetings. It is located off the 5 and there is plenty of parking, including covered parking. Try to get there before the 12 noon lunch rush though. Some of my coworkers wanted to stop by last week for lunch because they love the spicy orange sauce that Kabob Lounge make, the price is reasonable, and the food tastes great. Typical Mediterranean flavors and plenty of menu options from build a plate to more standard wrap and fries options. The cashier / servers are very nice, helpful, answer all questions, deliver the food, bus the tables, all with a smile. I ordered the donner chicken kabob and fries, around $9.45. It was delivered after a few minutes and was decent sized but the wrap was kind of small. They did give me a lot of fries though. It did not fill me up but it tasted great. The wrap was tender and flavorful, not dry like some other competitors. I tried a little of the spicy orange sauce, it does have a kick to it, so beware.

Joshua K.

Yelp
First time here at Kabob Lounge, and the food didn't disappoint. The staff are very friendly!

Heidy S.

Yelp
Terrible service I had to wait several minutes for someone to come to the front there was no one in the kitchen either then when I got my food the koobideh plate it had no flavor it just tasted sour I asked if I could switch just the meat since it had a strange taste the guy at the front said I couldn't the owner wasn't there and I would have to pay for the meat. It was so upsetting to hear that why would I even pay for the food when it didn't have salt any seasoning and tasted sour? I would have been fine just having a falafel if that was an exchange for the meat.

Audrina M.

Yelp
I ordered the persian pizza was absolutely delicious. Pretty friendly and polite employees.

Anderson C.

Yelp
I've ordered weekly family meals from here for years because of its proximity, but last night's order was beyond abysmal and our last. Two plates of $40+ charred pieces of drier than cardboard gyros. Inedible.

Mariam O.

Yelp
We decided to go to this establishment because they offered exotic pizzas. Once we entered, the owner, Nilo looked my bother up & down and didn't say anything. She then did the same thing to me! We were in there for a couple of minutes and she completely ignored us! We were looking at the menu and trying to decide what to order but my sister in law walked out. We followed her and she refused to eat there. Nilo doesn't like people that have some weight on them. It was apparent from the up and down looks we got! How sad! She lost our business! I'm a manager for a restaurant and I always tell my people to make our customers feel welcomed, respected and appreciated. This place is the opposite of that. She missed out! We are kind people who would have told our friends to support her business!
google avatar

Weiss O.

Yelp
I found this restaurant on IG and was really excited to try their food. We wanted to try the food since we are looking for a caterer for our upcoming event of a few hundred people. The moment we walked in the owner Nilo had such a look of distaste and annoyance on her face. Not only did she not greet us but she turned her back directly towards us right after we reached the counter. This was unnecessary as we were ready to order. Let me note she was not doing anything that would prevent her from speaking to or greeting us. This was extremely unprofessional as well as uncomfortable. We finally decided why would we want to eat there let alone cater our event with an establishment with an owner who is not happy to be at her place of business nor simply greet her patrons in a respectful manner. Customer service is the backbone of the food industry if you don't have it, don't expect to be in business for a long time. We will never be returning nor telling anyone about this place.

Suzy F.

Yelp
Disappointed! The meals are mostly rice with a few pieces of meat and a few slices of veggies, mostly onions. Honestly, yuck!
google avatar

Pradeep M.

Yelp
We used Restaurants.com certificate also Yelp users can get 7% cash back here, double bonus. Now coming to the review, pleasantly surprised. We changed our plans at the last minute and ended up here. It is impossible to spot that place while driving, you have to drive in to commercial business area and no big signs. I would suggest them to put some big signs. Food is Yumm, serving size is huge and service is excellent. I am just taking a star off for the hidden location. We ordered the following from Create Your Plate 1+2+3 1- Choose your, 2- Choose your Rice and 3- Choose your Greens 1. Chicken Tandoori plate + Adas Polo + House Salad : 7/10, Chicken could have been more juicer 2. Salmon Kabob plate + Persian herb pilaf + Tabbouleh: 8/10, Salmon melted on my mouth 3. Lamb Chops + Adas Polo + Shirazi Salad: 9/10 Just wow Also our 6 year old ordered, Kid's Grilled Chicken Tender, smartly replaced Fries with Persian herb pilaf rice. Overall, very satisfied with great food and awesome service. Will go there soon for our wraps
google avatar

Rohan S.

Yelp
One of the worst falafal places in San Diego. The falafal plate came with 4 falafals , some salad and lots of plain rice. Also couple grape leaf rolls. So how are u suppose to eat plain rice?? No sauces .... Had to ask and get some sauce from counter. Would have rather ordered falafal appetizer small plate, as that is all I ate from the entree. Considering so many better options around for Mediterranean food, i dont see a reason to visit this place.

Yelp
Came here because it was only a few minutes away from our hotel. We parked and entered Kabob Lounge. The front counter is to the left and there was about 8 or 9 tables for 2 on the right side. You can move the tables to make 4 and do on. There were 3 other couples waiting for their food so we all came about the same time. The food came to our table and it was great the meat was hot and fresh. The rice was soft not dried up. The meat was very tender! My wife's lamb came med well and could of been med at the most. Mine was also good, the chicken was tender and I could cut it with the fork. The two girls taking the orders were very nice and helpful in explaining the different items that you can get. We sat down and the TV was on the World Series. This place is jumping during lunch time as it's in a business park.
google avatar

Frank S.

Yelp
I grew up eating persian food. I learned this place was recently purchased by a very welcoming persian couple who are owner/operators. They advised they would be expanding the menu soon. That kabob was delicious. The restaurant was immaculate with plenty of seating. I can't wait to return.
google avatar

Jaquelynn N.

Yelp
I called in my order before they even opened, (about 10 minutes before), they answered and took my order. The girl I spoke with was new, but did take my order effectively. The speed and order correctness was accurate and awesome! I didn't give 5 stars because of the taste of the food. I got the Chicken doner wrap. The chicken is kind of sweet, I personally don't care for that. I also ordered a side of hummus, also not the best, kind of salty, but okay. And lastly, I got some baklava. It looked old and tasted old. The top layer was super dried out and curled up. All other food was fresh, just not exactly the flavors I'm used to when eating mediterranean.

Yelp
3.5 Stars given to this hidden shop. It's located in a commercial business area with no signs that can be seen from the street. We passed it the first time and luckily the second time my GPS told us which street to turn into. The parking lot is huge no worries on parking. It's located next to a sushi restaurant and nothing else you can't miss it. The service was good staff was friendly. I ordered their falafel veggie wrap and my BF had a lamb gyro. They really stuffed his gyro to the brim they don't skimp on the meat. BF enjoyed his gyro he said the lamb wasn't too dry. It comes with the cucumber yogurt sauce. We asked for extra which was given at no charge. I liked my falafel wrap it looked really fresh compared to other places. It wasn't dried out at all. They stuffed it with lettuce, pickles and tomatoes. We both ordered our meals with a side of French fries. You have the option of getting different sides. Overall nice little spot we would come back if in the area. But nothing we would go out of our way to get.
