"What began as a food truck has become a massively popular lunch stop in the skyway. Hot Indian is known for it’s Indian burritos, stuffed with your choice of meat or vegetarian options, wrapped in naan and the irresistibly crispy, spiced fries. Skyway accessible." - Joy Summers

Google
I had to try this place. I had to call them to get into the building, which is for security purposes and doesn't detract from their business. I had the onion pakoda and chicken tikka masala. Both were top notch and may have been better than my favorite Indian restaurant back home. The lady at the front counter was helpful in getting my order placed when they were out of something I wanted. I was very satisfied with the options and I'll need to come back to visit another day for sure.

Google
A small Indian restaurant that seems to be run by a family. The food is AMAZING and the pricing is even better. This is not what we expected when we stopped by for a quick bite. If I am in the neighborhood I would definitely visit again! The dosa, idly and tea are must try and once again the price and the service provided are top notch

Anudeep Ballu

Google
We got their lunch combo and the food was amazing! Happy to finally find an authentic Indian place close to downtown!

Google
This place blew me away. The dosa was so good and the spicy Andra chicken was very good with the white rice . We ordered masala chai twice

Happy World

Google
They were out of some food items even if it was at 2:30pm, and the off time is around 8pm. Place needs frequent cleaning after customers left.

Google
Found this restaurant in the Skyway! Such a good find. One of the few restaurants open past 5pm! They have such a great selection of food. The portions sizes are great and the taste is fresh and delicious. We really enjoyed the food. They have both vegetarian and non vegetarian options with plenty of appetizer, chaats, rice, noodle and curry dishes. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
Went here for a dinner with friend and liked the food.. Since it was the day after thanksgiving , i got a parking easily. Restaurant is not fancy but food is good. Ordered Dosa. Samosa and Gobi manchurian and all items tasted awesome except the samosa s which were cold. The owner was prompt in replacing them and overall it was a good experience.

Sukhbir Bolina

Google
Came for a late lunch and ordered from the menu. The menu says samosa is $3.99 but he charged me $4.99. Said that prices have changed - then you should change it on the menu. Ordered chilli paneer - not had, but nothing special. Tables are dirty and it doesn't look like a clean place. Too expensive for what they offer.

Yelp
This place was so good and so cheap! It really reminded me of my mom's kitchen and the items they recommended did not disappoint 1 mango lassi 10/10 was like my Punjabi mom makes 1 chai 9/10 first Indian restaurant I have had where it was good Indian chai and not overpowered by milk 1 goat biriyani w/ raita 10/10 was very flavorful, but not spicy 1 chole Bhatura 9/10 the chole were malasaladar and the bhutura were decent The service was nice and they helped bring it to the table! Also their recommendations were on point! If I could go back again, I would! It's cafeteria style and they have a nice lunch buffet. Whether a casual night out or a quick meal this is where I'd want to go daily. It's not fancy, but the food did touch my heart!

Yelp
Kadai Indian Kitchen is a perfect spot for lunch in Downtown Minneapolis! It is located in the Northstar Center on the skyway level. You can connect to Northstar Center via the Wells Fargo Center, Canadian Pacific Plaza, Capella Tower, or the Baker Building. For lunch, they have two great package options: the Quick Lunch (any 4 items) or the Full Lunch (6 items). Unless you are completely ravenous, the Quick Lunch is a great portion size with plenty of food. You order at the counter cafeteria style, and my favorite combo to-date is the Coconut Rice, Butter Chicken, Chana Masala (chickpeas), and Butter Naan. 15/10! Each item is packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The service is great-- cheerful and friendly folks. It's a sizeable space with seating and is a great spot for a quiet solo lunch or to meet up with coworkers/friends for a casual meal. I will definitely be returning soon to try some of their other menu items!

Yelp
Best deal in the Skywalk when they are open. Good South Indian food dished up cafeteria style. The problem with the Skywalk is there are no public restrooms, so if you're staying at the Sonesta and you're on diuretics for hypertension and drink coffee like me, you can't make it farther than here and be able to make it back to the hotel. The spice level is set for Gora tastes, pretty mild. Still, better than any other place to eat within striking distance of the Sonesta and very reasonably priced. The one problem is they don't open on time, and they sometimes close early. Very frustrating when trying to find a meal before a conference day starts, and I was so looking forward to a Deccan (Southern India) breakfast.

Sanah B.

Yelp
Had a great experience here from the second I called the restaurant lost and looking for help to find the entrance. For those not from here, you need to enter through the Skywalk - apparently they close the street entrance to the building by 7pm. No worries, I called and within moments a very kind gentleman came to find me and guide me up to Kadai which was right off the elevator. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, even though I got there only about 30 mins before closing. I was desperate to find some home cooked food after a long flight and they really delivered. The aloo gobi was just like my mom makes it - delicate but well spiced, not oily at all, cauliflower and potatoes cooked to perfection, not mushy but still soft and comforting. I inhaled this with rice while I waited for my masala dosa. When that arrived a few mins later I realized that I might have been overly ambitious, but nevertheless I persevered...and ate the whole thing. The dosa was crispy (and huge) - with the potato filling on the side to ensure it didn't get soggy. I absolutely loved the sambar that came with it - it had a great, thicker than usual texture and was not heavy on mustard seed which I usually don't like. A surprise showstopper. Chutneys were excellent too, especially the coconut one. Did I mention how sweet the owners were? Made me feel right at home and encouraged me to take my time eating even though it was near closing. Thank you - will come back for the lunch buffet!

Richa V.

Yelp
I came here because I was homesick and craving Indian food. Location - It was a little hard to find because I didn't realize it was in the skyway. I called them because I was lost and they helped me enter. Ambiance- like most things in the skyways, this is focused more on lunch hours and rush. It was a little messy because you could see the remnants of the very busy lunch rush. Service - I got there 30 mins before closing and they got my order out to me so quickly I waited like 5 minutes. Food- The food really hit the spot honestly. I got Dal Makhani and Paneer Tikka Masala, both came with rice, and I also got naan. The food hugged my heart and it satisfied my craving. I will come back.

Yelp
I work downtown and I am out in the Skyway most days for lunch. I eat at many different spots. Kadai is in my top 5 easy. Today, they introduced a new mushroom dish that really caught my attention, delicious. I'm there once a week. They have smaller portions for a budget lunch as well. Try it, for sure!

Matt S.

Yelp
The food was good enough, but I gave the low rating for 3 reasons: 1. You can order pickup after hours but it's extremely difficult to get your food. They are in a closed and secured building and should only offer delivery after 4pm. 2. I ordered a vegetable curry that had very, very few vegetables. It was 98% curry and white rice. 3. I ordered online and pickup was scheduled for 40 minutes later. I showed up on time and my food was 20 minutes late being ready. Since I couldn't get into the building I had to stand outside and wait. I also called 4 times to make sure they were really going to come down eventually.

Gabriel S.

Yelp
Great food served buffet style. Veg or meat options as well as spicy and mild options. Really good food no matter what you choose. The staff is super nice and the atmosphere is relaxed for downtown. This is my go to lunch spot with friends. No restrooms but they take cash and credit. Easy access from the skyway. I will be back!

Ethan G.

Yelp
I've eaten at a few Indian places around the Twin Cities, and Kadai might be my favorite! Served buffet style, you can get a "full buffet" lunch, which allows you to get as much as you want from the whole buffet. Or you can get the "small" lunch, which allows you to choose up to 4 items, not including rice. The food has always been hot and fresh, and there's a great variety of options. The koorma curry dish is my favorite, and the butter naan will make you forget about your troubles.

Terri L.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite Indian Restaurant in the Twin Cities. I am in LOVE with Kadai, it has been my thing ever since Yelp Community Event had an Indian restaurant visit. I have been on a long Indian food fix and that's how I found Kadai. Originally I was looking for a restaurant via doordash that had both Chicken Korma and butter chicken. Kadai had both! If you are looking to eat here for lunch, note the line is intimidating as it is long but it goes quick as you pick down a long lunch line. Finding a spot can be tricky and if you do not want to risk it or you know you do not finish your food. I recommend getting it to go for a bit more. So they have different types of rice and biriyani options, then four veggies curries, 3-4 meat curries, and lastly some naans/other sides. Food taste so great and so flavorful. Especially the butter chicken. So it is a great options in the skyways. I recommend trying and checking it out.

Harshada S.

Yelp
I used to eat here when I was working out of Minneapolis but I did not like the food then. The lunch buffet is little bland for my taste however my Indian and American colleagues loved the buffet. So if you prefer spice level mild go for the lunch buffet. I ordered following dishes from the restaurant: Andhra style chicken curry : I never had Andhra style curry ever in my life but decided to try since chicken comes bone in which is my favorite part. This was delicious. The gravy and spices were perfectly cooked with meat. I loved it! Dish rate - 4.5/5 Special chicken biryani: since word special made me order this one but I was little disappointed. Chicken used in this dish was fried I believe. Also dish is bland for my taste though I asked to make it spicy. Rating 3/5 Sad thing is this is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Do try buffet and see for yourselves. I will update if I have any other dishes from this joint!

Shannon T.

Yelp
I had a great experience at Kadai Indian Kitchen. It's fantastic and totally different than the norm. What a magnificent dish Tandoori Chicken was. Absolutely mind-blowing. The service is quick and courteous too. Yes, Kadai Indian Kitchen actually care that you are happy.

Lucas H.

Yelp
I hungrily pace the skyways looking for food. I walked in and got some very delicious Chicken Tikki Masala. The color was orange, very bright with lots of flavor! More on the sweet side vs spicy, but a great experience in my mouth none the less. Large chunks of chicken. Plenty of food for what you pay for. Came with rice, I also ordered a side of Gallic nan. $12.95 + $2.95 total, seems very reasonable. What would we without carbs in Covid? I would be sad. It was not busy inside the restaurant, and it did not take long to cook, receive my food. I had not had Indian cuisine for quite some time, the man behind the counter was very helpful, going through the menu with me and answering all my questions. I will be back, aiming for something more spicy! A gem in the skyways.

Kyron T.

Yelp
Food is old and reheated from previous day. Some workers sitting in the food prep area on their laptops where they are preparing your meal. Then every day around 2pm to close they have a man sleeping in the dining area.

Troy J.

Yelp
The Kadai Indian Kitchen is my favorite find in the Skyway. It's an "Indian Buffet to Go" restaurant that has become my go-to restaurant for comfort food during cold weather. Warm, stew-like curries, and a full range of rice, meat and veggie dishes. In traditional buffet fashion, you can select everything you want from among the 20+ options in the Kadai buffet line. As you do so, servers will assemble your plate. The portions are as generous and numerous as you like. During my recent visit, my picks included three curries, a rice dish, a potato dish, some breaded vegetables and spicy chicken. They also included a small stack of naan (flat bread) and offered dessert (which I refused). The result was a hefty plate of tasty, stewy, goodness. A plate from Kadai provides mosaic of flavors and texture for around $10 (a bit lower if you only choose vegetarian options, a bit more if you explore their meaty offerings.) If you love the flavors of india, like I do -- but aren't confident in ordering from a typical menu (like me) -- Kadai is a great place to explore indian cuisine. They're open for breakfast and on weekends (saturday) too!

Himanshu B.

Yelp
The good was really good. Had booked a table for a Holi dinner. They can work on getting orders served quicker. The food was legit, but overall it was pretty spicy for an Indian restaurant in the US. I had to locals come along with me, they had an upset tummy the following day. DO TRY THE PAAN THEY SERVE.

Cindy W.

Yelp
This is a great lunch spot because it's cheap, quick, delicious. It's a no-frills joint. You line up and get whatever selection of indian food you want. It's $9 for vegetarian and $10 for non-vegetarian food and you can pick as many different dishes as you want -- no limit. I really liked the chicken biryani, fried spinach, chicken curry, and chickpeas. There's also a huge seating area so you'll probably be able to grab a seat. It's, again, no frills but if you just want cheap good food and are craving something more ethnic and not burgers/wraps/salads/etc., you should check out this spot!

Shata Y.

Yelp
Just another great tasting day! Love the options of food and guaranteed flavor burst each time. I love the chicken biriyani, pol?? paneer, butter chicken, naan, and dessert. I always get to go order as it is lunch buffet and plenty of left over for a late afternoon snack. Do check the spice level of new dishes because they stay true to their recipe spice. I frequent this place for lunch and the food is as consistent at their Plymouth location.

Taals B.

Yelp
Good food but really bad service. I got the lunch buffet to go. First of, the server wasn't interested in what I was asking for, so I had to repeat myself. No smiles. Then when I complained about the container not closing, he gave me a lecture on how I should hold it. No, not a "let me help you out here" but more of a " don't you know you need to hold it this way, so stupid". I have proof- the guy standing next to me in life just laughed at me when the server was rolling his eyes and insinuating how stupid I am. So, there you go, never coming back here. I hope they are reading the reviews.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place...I really, really did. I came here for lunch on a random weekday. The line moved pretty quickly and they were helpful in finding what I wanted. My issue with this place was that everything was lukewarm and tasted greasy. The naan was flat and oily, the curries lukewarm, and the chicken cold. for $11, I expected at least a halfway decent lunch. Additionally, the restaurant was dirty. There are definitely better lunch options downtown.

Chaitali K.

Yelp
The worst experience ever. 45 minutes of rava onion masala dosa without the masala. Soggy dosa and moreover they don't server sambar like seriously? Very disappointed never going to visit again.

S. S.

Yelp
That buffet hits the spot. Unique flavors in each dish and delicious sauces to sop up with some naan.

Vampkat G.

Yelp
They confirmed my order off of Grubhub, and never delivered my food and then proceeded to push back my delivery time another hour. Unreliable! Don't order from them.

Doghouse R.

Yelp
This is fast becoming my favorite Indian restaurant in Minneapolis. As they used to say about the old Chef Cafe, for quality, price and taste you can't beat Kadai Indian Kitchen!

Molly B.

Yelp
This place is great. The flavors here are amazing. You get whatever you want for 1 price from the to-go "buffet". Sometimes though they don't give you very much of things-I've seen people ask for more but never have. They also move very quickly so asking what's in something is hard.

Naseer Z.

Yelp
Ordered food a chili chicken and boneless byriani the worst food omg the chili chicken was a Chinese stir fry chili chicken traditionally is not made with green peppers etc.. irs made in a tomato sauce with spices the byriani was horrible it was just a chicken stir fry with rice the only good thing I had was the Naan this is not Indian food dont know what you would call it but not indian horrible omg the worst

Patrick M.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant I have been too. Never had a bad meal here. People are nice and friendly and always a nice variety of dishes.

Kareem I.

Yelp
Gotta love Kadai! Very delicious Indian food and a great variety of options. They switch the menu up daily, so you could go multiple times a week and get different flavors and dishes. My personal favorite is their channa masala and their fish curry, but you can't go wrong with butter chicken! With the amount of food you get, $12-13 is an appropriate price. Even though it's more expensive than most skyway eats, the variety, quality, and quantity is sure to make it worth your money.

Anand C.

Yelp
This probably the best Indian restaurant in the downtown. Benefits of going to Kadai while you are working in downtown. * Easily accessible on Skyway. * Fast service. * Lots of options to choose both Veg/Non-veg. * Can enjoy a hot and spicy Indian food. * Limited buffet lunch but more than enough. * Can taste from starters to Desserts everything at an affordable price($9-$11)

Jesselyn T.

Yelp
I have no idea why there are not more options for Indian cuisine in the skyway because, yum! Kadai is one of the only ones out there and not too horribly expensive for being downtown. For $8.99 you get the veggie option and for $9.99 you get the meat option. It is sort of like a buffet, but they ladle it for you, more points for the divided plate/tray being made of a hardy paper cardboard that is more environmentally friendly than plastic or Styrofoam! I basically go in, tell them I "want everything, especially if it is spicy!" and they just pile my tray (see my photo above). There is nothing bad on the plate! Their chicken biryani is great, and the butter chicken is tasty. If they had samosas as well I would just eat here everyday forever. Everything is hot (nothing worst than lukewarm food) and delicious.

Ria L.

Yelp
Inexpensive delicious Indian food. I had lunch here last week - you can get four items for 6.99 for dine in. The flavors are amazing, flavorful robust curries that doesn't hurt your face with spiciness. It gets busy during lunch but worth the wait.

M K.

Yelp
Pros Food is good or very good indeed. Good Indian snacks. Cons Non friendly staff Not so very clean environment Staff looks un-hygienic themselves. A bit more pricey for the platter they offer for lunch. Asking extra in platter will piss them off , though they charge heavily.

Mother Of Four P.

Yelp
Amazing butter chicken and naan. They do need to clean their dining area and their soda machine - bring your own beverage!!!! But great service and amazing food makes it worth it. Never been sick and I go probably 2x/week.

C F.

Yelp
Pros: the food was pretty good. Cons: the service was horrible. The reasoning: I placed an order for Dal Makhani and Butter Chicken for delivery via GrubHub. Forty minutes after my order was placed, they called and told me they didn't have Dal Makhani. Why does it take forty minutes to figure this out? Based on the reviews on GrubHub, this is a common situation for them. I should have cancelled my order then and there, but agreed to a substitution. It took over an hour to receive my order. Why? Because when GrubHub showed up to pick up the order, it wasn't ready yet - they were told to come back later. Eventually, it was ready and the food was delivered and the quality was satisfactory. However, based on the frequency of this issue, I cannot recommend using these guys for delivery.

Sony Jacob T.

Yelp
Ordered chicken fried rice which probably wasn't the best choice for a Indian restaurant. It was just okay.

Alex B.

Yelp
Buffet style Indian food. Great flavors for a great value. Love their Butter Chicken and Tandoori Chicken, which they serve every day at lunch time. Come here for lunch if you're craving Indian food, you won't be disappointed. Good people working there too.

Julie L.

Yelp
My husband and I just ate here tonight after a friend suggested it to us. While the food was good, I wish I could the same about service. We walked in and said hi to the gentleman behind the host stand, who said hi back, but after awkwardly standing there for literally a minute, we were confused who was going to seat us. He then finally told us to pick a table and someone would be over to take our order. We waited a while again just to receive menus, and again waited a while before even having our order taken. There were only a few tables there too, so it wasn't that busy. Also, don't expect friendly, or great customer service here, or even a smile from the waitress. After finally getting to place our order and waiting 20 minutes, we were told the Dosa we ordered couldn't be made because it kept sticking to the pan (WTF how do you not know how to make something that's on your menu?!), so I told him that was fine, we'll just cancel it. Fast forward, 45 minutes after walking in to the place, we didn't receive our food. And after seeing the 4 tables who came after us get their food, and having received none of ours, we finally asked what was going on. Apparently they had never even received our order, or started it. He promised we were on "priority" even though I saw the waitress bring out food to 2 other tables after he had promised this. The waitress finally brought out our food, set the food on our table very rudely, and didn't say a single word to us or apologize to us for the wait. When we finally went up to pay, they offered me a measly $3 discount on our dinner to make up for our food taking 55 minutes to come out to us. I understand mistakes happen, but if you're going to be unkind, and rude when it was a mistake on your end, you do not deserve my business. I definitely will not be coming back here. After being annoyed at how we were treated here, my husband I went across the street to India Bazaar because I had been eyeing some of their pastries. Boy what a difference in service! The staff here was much more friendly and welcoming. They even suggested we get samples of some of their entrees for next time we visit. I'll definitely be choosing India Bazaar over this place in the future, where my business is actually appreciated!!!

Pete B.

Yelp
I love this place! They offer two simple choices for lunch, vegetarian or not vegetarian. I always get the vegetation option and have enjoyed my meal each time I've been here. They change up what they serve but you'll get six or seven different dishes and they are all amazing. I highly recommend this place.

Wayne S.

Yelp
Went with work friends from India. We had to wait until 11:15 for the buffet to open, but the food was worth the wait. Also good Chai tea

Vanessa M.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times now. The food tastes great and the portions are enough for lunch and dinner. Now, the customer service is definitely lacking - not the friendliest bunch of people. Out of the 3 times I've been, twice I've left a little irked with the treatment. The last 2 visits I've had to close the my container. It would seem that would be done by staff, but I guess that not how they do it. It doesn't feel good spending money with disrespectful staff! I guess I have a choice, huh?

Sonu M.

Yelp
Not much for vegetarians. I can say it's good for non vegetarians but for veggie eaters options r less n not so fancy they had rice, dal, potato fry, pulihora,(really felt I m eating prasad) dry paneer was not cooked properly. Custurad in dessert was horrible too. Where as non veggie had plenty of options with biriyani n other stuff not worth paying $9 n non veg pay $10 n have All the fun. That's sad improve ur veggie menu.

Mariel L.

Yelp
Really solid option for weekday lunch. I like the concept of filling up as much of your plate for a flat fee, because really all I want is all the butter chicken and all the naan, screw the dividers. Just kidding, the dividers are very much appreciated. Anyway, they have your familiar Indian dishes like chicken biryani, dal, makhani chicken, paneer tikka masala, tandoori chicken, etc. They switch up some of the dishes, but the ones above seem to always be available. Which, thank goodness, because as I've mentioned I love me some butter chicken and naan. Their spicy dishes are truly spicy, and can be washed down by some yummy mango lassi. Their staff is efficient and friendly, and the dining area is well-maintained and can get packed during lunch time. For good reason.

Ashish A.

Yelp
I should give 0 stars. Ordered malala dosas for take out. They gave plain dosas. When I called them, they never answered the phone. This has happened 2 times. Crazy, how these people run restaurant. Keep away

Terri B.

Yelp
Not good - over priced. It was worth trying once, but would not go back. It is set up too much for lunch crowd - over priced for the small amount of food - lots of sauce and very little chicken. The butter chicken curry sauce recipe is perfect but not good alone - needs more chicken (but that would lower their profit. . . ). Skip it - not worth going to. The twin cities metro area is still far behind other metro areas for good ethic restaurants.

Jordan M.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Offering take away or eat in plates served from their vast 'buffet' style bar, Kadai is a great lunch spot in the Skyway. When I went, I got the Biryani Rice, Butter Chicken, Mutter Paneer, Tandoori Chicken, and some Naan. All of the food was incredible, and large portions at that. The biryani was great - filled with chicken and wonderful flavors (they also have vegetarian rice and white rice). The entrees were both very good as well. The butter chicken was very tasty, but not at all spicy. The paneer was also tasty. The peas were a bit mushy, but I enjoyed it. The Tandoori chicken was cooked very well and had excellent spice, but wasn't overpowering (highly suggest this). The naan was warm and soft, very good! $12 for a very large amount of food, so worth the money.

Jeremy B.

Yelp
The food is legit! Very happy to find that. Fast, friendly service, although it was hard to find trying to use the skyway for the first time (as a tourist). This was a short walk from the Marriott. Portion sizes were very generous, food was hot and tasty, and they packed it up nicely with plates, plasticware and napkins. Service was friendly; the owner even came and found me when I couldn't find the restaurant. The naan wasn't the best but that's not a huge deal. Finally, I agree with a previous poster that the physical appearance of the restaurant will probably deter some native Minnesotans... It doesn't give the most sanitary impression. Overall, very good for pick up.

Alex C.

Yelp
Food was so and so, chicken curry was full of bones, not pleased with the attitude at all. Not a good experience. Went on a Wednesday at 5:30pm

Lisa E.

Yelp
This place is good! Get there early. The menu rotates daily and everything I've tried has been flavored well. The quality of food is very nice.

Steve S.

Yelp
I tried the lunch buffet. The butter chicken sauce was good, but the chicken was okay. I also had the curry goat which was riddled with bone chips and gristle. I expect some with goat, but this was so much it was impossible to eat. The naan was good and the flavors of the dishes was good too. I'd go back again, but try other items.

Al O.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!!!!!!! The butter chicken is sooooo good. The food was very good. It's a family owned business. We really enjoyed are food. Thank you!
